ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੀ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੀ ਨਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
ha-o ha-o kartee jag firee naa Dhan sampai naal.
The entire world is wandering around engrossed in self-conceit, without realizing that worldly wealth doesn’t accompany anyone after death.
ਲੁਕਾਈ ਮਮਤਾ-ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਾਉਂਦੀਂ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਧਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਅੰਧੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਸਭ ਬਾਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
anDhee naam na chayt-ee sabh baaDhee jamkaal.
The spiritually blind world does not meditate on Naam; and is therefore bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death.
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੀ, ਲੁਕਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੩॥
satgur mili-ai Dhan paa-i-aa har naamaa ridai samaal. ||3||
By meeting the True Guru, and enshrining God’s Name in the heart, the true wealth of Naam is obtained.
ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
naam ratay say nirmalay gur kai sahj subhaa-ay.
Those who are attuned to the Naam are immaculate and pure; through the Guru, they obtain intuitive peace and poise.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨl
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇ ॥
man tan raataa rang si-o rasnaa rasan rasaa-ay.
Their minds and bodies are imbued with God’s Love, and their tongues savor His Sublime Essence.
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੪੭॥
naanak rang na utrai jo har Dhur chhodi-aa laa-ay. ||4||14||47||
O’ Nanak, they whom God has imbued with His love from the very beginning, their love for God never fades.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਰੰਗ ਕਦੇ ਉਤਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ

Siree Raag, by the Third Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
gurmukh kirpaa karay bhagat keejai bin gur bhagat na ho-ee.
Only when God bestows His mercy through the Guru, then one worships God. Without the Guru’s grace there is no devotional worship.
ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜੀਵ ਉੱਤੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ (ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
aapai aap milaa-ay boojhai taa nirmal hovai so-ee.
The one who surrenders himself to the Guru, understands the secret and his life becomes immaculate.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦੇਵੇ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
har jee-o saachaa saachee banee sabad milaavaa ho-ee. ||1||
God is True, and True is His Word. It is only through Guru’s word that union with God is obtained.
ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਸਚੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ। ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਭਗਤਿਹੀਣੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਗਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
bhaa-ee ray bhagtiheen kaahay jag aa-i-aa.
O’ Brothers, why did you come to this world if you did not want to worship God?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pooray gur kee sayv na keenee birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If you have not served the perfect Guru by following his teachings, you have wasted your life in Vain.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ l
ਆਪੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
aapay jagjeevan sukh-daata aapay bakhas milaa-ay.
God, the life of the World, is Himself the giver of peace, and after kindly forgiving us, unites us with Him.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਏ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
jee-a jant ay ki-aa vaychaaray ki-aa ko aakh sunaa-ay.
So what about all these helpless beings and creatures? What can anyone say?
ਇਹ ਨਿਰਬਲ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤੂ ਕੀ ਹਨ? ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਕੀ ਕਹਿ ਤੇ ਸੁਣਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਾਈ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੨॥
gurmukh aapay day-ay vadaa-ee aapay sayv karaa-ay. ||2||
Through the Guru, God Himself bestows honor on some and enjoins them to His service (devotional worship)
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੋਭਾਣਾ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
daykh kutamb mohi lobhaanaa chaldi-aa naal na jaa-ee.
Gazing upon their families, people are lured and trapped by emotional attachment, but none will go along with them in the end.
ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
satgur sayv gun niDhaan paa-i-aa tis dee keem na paa-ee.
It is impossible to estimate the worth of the person who by following the true Guru’s teachings, has realized God, the treasure of virtues.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਉੱਚਤਾ ਦੀ) ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਖਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੩॥
har parabh sakhaa meet parabh mayraa antay ho-ay sakhaa-ee. ||3||
The God is my Friend and Companion. God shall be my Support in the end.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਦੋਸਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਉਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਆਪਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
aapnai man chit kahai kahaa-ay bin gur aap na jaa-ee.
Within your conscious mind, you may think that my egoism is gone, but without the Guru’s help, egoism does not go away.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਜੀਵ ਪਿਆ ਆਖੇ, ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭੀ ਅਖਵਾਏ (ਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ) ਪਰ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
har jee-o daataa bhagat vachhal hai kar kirpaa man vasaa-ee.
The Benefactor God loves His devotees, and by showing mercy He enshrines His loving devotion in their hearts.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੪੮॥
naanak sobhaa surat day-ay parabh aapay gurmukh day vadi-aa-ee. ||4||15||48||
O’ Nanak, by His Grace, He bestows enlightened awareness; God Himself blesses the Guru’s followers with glory.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ) ਸੁਰਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Siree Raag, by the Third Guru:
ਧਨੁ ਜਨਨੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਇਆ ਧੰਨੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
Dhan jannee jin jaa-i-aa Dhan pitaa parDhaan.
Blessed is the mother who gave birth to the Guru (Guru Angad DevJi); and blessed also is his noble father.
ਉਹ ਮਾਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਪਿਤਾ ਭੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਇਆ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
satgur sayv sukh paa-i-aa vichahu ga-i-aa gumaan.
By serving (following the teachings of) such a true Guru, many have obtained peace and shed their egoism from within.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਖੜੇ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
dar sayvan sant jan kharhay paa-in gunee niDhaan. ||1||
The saintly people who stand at the door-step of the Guru and serve him (follow his teachings), realize God, the treasure of all virtues.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਖਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
mayray man gur mukh Dhi-aa-ay har so-ay.
O my mind, following the Guru’s teachings, meditate on God with loving devotion.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kaa sabad man vasai man tan nirmal ho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Word of the Guru dwells within the mind, and the body and mind become pure.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
kar kirpaa ghar aa-i-aa aapay mili-aa aa-ay.
By His Grace, He has come to dwell in my heart; He Himself has come to meet me.
ਆਪਣੀ ਰਹਿਮਤ ਨਿਛਾਵਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਰੰਗੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
gur sabdee salaahee-ai rangay sahj subhaa-ay.
Singing His Praises through the Guru’s word, we are imbued in His love with intuitive ease.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
sachai sach samaa-i-aa mil rahai na vichhurh jaa-ay. ||2||
Becoming truthful, we merge with the True One; remaining united with Him, we shall never be separated again.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
jo kichh karnaa so kar rahi-aa avar na karnaa jaa-ay.
Whatever is to be done, He is doing so. No one else can do anything.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਤੋਂ ਉਲਟ) ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਪੰਨੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
chiree vichhunay mayli-an satgur pannai paa-ay.
God has united with Himself those who were separated from Him for long, by putting them under the charge of the true Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਲੜ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਚਿਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਸੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
aapay kaar karaa-isee avar na karnaa jaa-ay. ||3||
He Himself assigns all to their tasks; nothing else can be done.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਕਾਰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ l
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
man tan rataa rang si-o ha-umai taj vikaar.
Shedding ego and evil thoughts, one’s body and mind is imbued with God’s love.
ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ (ਭੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥
ahinis hirdai rav rahai nirbha-o naam nirankaar.
Day and night, they meditate in their heart on the fear-dispelling Name of the Formless God.
ਆਕਾਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਭੈਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੪੯॥
naanak aap milaa-i-an poorai sabad apaar. ||4||16||49||
O’ Nanak, through the word of the perfect Guru, the infinite God has united them with Himself.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪੂਰਨ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ l

Siree Raag, by the Third Guru:
ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
govid gunee niDhaan hai ant na paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
God of the Universe is the Treasure of virtues; His limits cannot be known.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਭ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਲੱਭਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
kathnee badnee na paa-ee-ai ha-umai vichahu jaa-ay.
He can be realized only by dispelling ego from within and not by mere prattle.
ਮੂੰਹ-ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
