ਜੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਪੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੁ ਭਲਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਪੰਚਹੁ ਓਨਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਸਭੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
jo gur gopay apnaa so bhala naahee panchahu on laahaa mool sabh gavaa-i-aa.
O’ saints, the one who slanders his Guru is not a good person; he loses the wealth of Naam that he was supposed to earn in this precious human life.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋਂ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਖੱਟਣਾ ਸੀ ਉਹ ਭੀ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੂਲ ਭੀ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਹਿਲਾ ਆਗਮੁ ਨਿਗਮੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਉਪਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
pahilaa aagam nigam nanak aakh sunaa-ay pooray gur kaa bachan upar aa-i-aa.
Nanak proclaims that even according to the primary principle of shastras and vedas, the perfect Guru’s word is the most exalted for his disciples.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਆਗਮ ਨਿਗਮ ਹੈ (ਇਹੋ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਵੇਦ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਉੱਤਮ ਸਿੱਧਾਂਤ ਕਿ) ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਕ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣੀਕ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਭਾਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਓਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
gursikhaa vadi-aa-ee bhaavai gur pooray kee manmukhaa oh vaylaa hath na aa-i-aa. ||2||
The glory of the perfect Guru is very pleasing to his disciples, but the self-willed do not get this opportunity to praise the Guru.||2||
ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪਰ) ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ l

Pauree:
ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਭ ਦੂ ਵਡਾ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਲਏ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਟਿਕੇ ॥
sach sachaa sabh doo vadaa hai so la-ay jis satgur tikay.
The eternal God is the greatest of all, but he alone realizes Him who is anointed (blessed) by the true Guru.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੋ ਸੱਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤਿਲਕ ਦੇਵੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਅਸੀਸ ਦੇਵੇ)।
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਇਕੇ ॥
so satgur je sach Dhi-aa-idaa sach sachaa satgur ikay.
He alone is the true Guru who remembers eternal God with concentration; the eternal God and true Guru are truly one.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਭੀ ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸੱਚ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਇਕ ਹੀ ਹਨ।
ਸੋਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੰਜੇ ਦੂਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਵਸਿ ਛਿਕੇ ॥
so-ee satgur purakh hai jin panjay doot keetay vas chhikay.
He alone is the true Guru who has resolutely controlled his five evil passions.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪੁਰਖ ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਖਿੱਚ ਕੇ ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ।
ਜਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਇਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਫਿਟੁ ਫਿਟੁ ਮੁਹ ਫਿਕੇ ॥
je bin satgur sayvay aap ganaa-iday tin andar koorh fit fit muh fikay.
Those who do not follow the true Guru’s teachings but proclaim themselves as great, are filled with falsehood and their listless faces are always cursed.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਝੂਠ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਓਇ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਮੁਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਚੁਕੇ ॥੮॥
o-ay bolay kisai na bhaavnee muh kaalay satgur tay chukay. ||8||
Nobody likes what they say, and they are held in disgrace because they have forsaken the true Guru.||8||
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਹੱਛੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਭੀ ਭਰਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ l

Salok, Fourth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਖੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
har parabh kaa sabh khayt hai har aap kirsaanee laa-i-aa.
The entire world is like the farm of God and He has sent the mortals to perform their duty (to remember God and gather the wealth of Naam).
ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਾਨੋ ਪੈਲੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ)।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਖਸਿ ਜਮਾਈਅਨੁ ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh bakhas jamaa-ee-an manmukhee mool gavaa-i-aa.
By God’s grace, the Guru’s follower has cultivated Naam in it, but the self-conceited has wasted his life in vain, as if he has wasted even the seed.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। , ਉਹਦੀ (ਖੇਤੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ) ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨੇ ਮੂਲ ਭੀ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ)।
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਬੀਜੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਲੇ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਖੇਤੁ ਜਮਾਇਆ ॥
sabh ko beejay aapnay bhalay no har bhaavai so khayt jamaa-i-aa.
Everyone grows the field (performs deeds) for their own benefit, but only that field grows good (effort is rewarded), which is approved by God.
ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਲੇ ਲਈ ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਹੀ ਖੇਤ ਚੰਗਾ ਉੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਸਫਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਫਲੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gursikhee har amrit beeji-aa har amrit naam fal amrit paa-i-aa.
The Guru’s disciples sow only the seed of God’s ambrosial nectar, and they receive the immortalizing reward of Naam.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੀਜਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਮੁ ਚੂਹਾ ਕਿਰਸ ਨਿਤ ਕੁਰਕਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢਾਇਆ ॥
jam choohaa kiras nit kurkadaa har kartai maar kadhaa-i-aa.
Everyday the fear of death keep nibbling at the life of the self-conceiteds like a mouse, but the Creator has expelled this fear from the minds of the Guru’s followers.
ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਜਮ ਰੂਪ ਚੂਹਾ ਸਦਾ ਟੁੱਕੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ
ਕਿਰਸਾਣੀ ਜੰਮੀ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਹਲ ਬਖਸ ਜਮਾਇਆ ॥
kirsaanee jammee bhaa-o kar har bohal bakhas jamaa-i-aa.
By the grace of God, the efforts of Guru’s followers are richly rewarded and they gather huge crop (wealth) of God’s grace.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ (ਭਾਵ, ਚੰਗੀ ਫੱਬ ਕੇ) ਉੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ-ਰੂਪੀ ਬੋਹਲ ਦਾ ਢੇਰ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਕਾੜਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਸਭੁ ਲਾਹਿਓਨੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
tin kaa kaarhaa andaysaa sabh laahi-on jinee satgur purakh Dhi-aa-i-aa.
Those who have contemplated on the true Guru, God has removed all their dread and doubt.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਝੋਰਾ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
jan naanak naam araaDhi-aa aap tari-aa sabh jagat taraa-i-aa. ||1||
O, Nanak, the devotee who has meditated on God’s Name, has rescued himself and helped the entire world to cross over the worldly ocean of vices. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l

Salok, Fourth Guru:
ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਅਟਿਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਰੇ ਗਲਾ ॥
saaraa din laalach ati-aa manmukh horay galaa.
The self-willed person, being engrossed in greed, keeps wasting his entire day in talks other than Naam.
ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਲਿੱਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਤੀ ਊਘੈ ਦਬਿਆ ਨਵੇ ਸੋਤ ਸਭਿ ਢਿਲਾ ॥
raatee ooghai dabi-aa navay sot sabh dhilaa.
At night, he is overpowered by sleep, and all his nine faculties are weakened.
ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਂਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਘੁੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਇੰਦਰੇ ਢਿੱਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਦੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਜੋਰਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਭਲਾ ॥
manmukhaa dai sir joraa amar hai nit dayveh bhalaa.
Such self-willed persons are dominated by their spouses and are nice to them.
(ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ) ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ ਚੰਗੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੋਰਾ ਦਾ ਆਖਿਆ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਸੇ ਅਪਵਿਤ ਅਮੇਧ ਖਲਾ ॥
joraa daa aakhi-aa purakh kamaavday say apvit amayDh khalaa.
Those who so blindly follow the dictates of their spouses, (instead of acting in consultation), are generally filthy, ignorant and foolish.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਵਿਚ ਟੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਪਣਾ ਵਜ਼ੀਰ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਨਹੀ ਲੈਂਦੇ, ਸਗੋਂ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਜੋ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਆਖਣ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ), ਉਹ (ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਮਲੀਨ-ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧ-ਹੀਨ ਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਕੁਸੁਧ ਨਰ ਸੇ ਜੋਰਾ ਪੁਛਿ ਚਲਾ ॥
kaam vi-aapay kusuDh nar say joraa puchh chalaa.
Such immoral persons engrossed in lust, follow the command of their spouses.
ਜੋ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਗੰਦੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਆਖਿਐ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਸੋ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਭਲ ਭਲਾ ॥
satgur kai aakhi-ai jo chalai so sat purakh bhal bhalaa.
On the other hand, one who follows the command of the true Guru, is the best of all.
ਸੱਚਾ ਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋਰਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਖੇਲ ਸਭਿ ਖਿਲਾ ॥
joraa purakh sabh aap upaa-i-an har khayl sabh khilaa.
God Himself has created all women and men; He Himself has set up this play.
ਸਭ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਵਣੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਲ ਭਲਾ ॥੨॥
sabh tayree banat banaavanee naanak bhal bhalaa. ||2||
Nanak says: O’God, all this creation and arrangement is created by You, and whatever You have done is for the good. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ ਕਿ) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ) ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਣਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕੁੱਝ ਤੂੰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਭਲਾ ਹੈ।

Pauree:
ਤੂ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਹੈ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਕਿਉ ਤੁਲੀਐ ॥
too vayparvaahu athaahu hai atul ki-o tulee-ai.
O’ God, how can one estimate Your virtues? You are unfathomable and You have no worries.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਤੋਲੀਏ? ਤੂੰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ, ਅਥਾਹ ਤੇ ਅਤੋਲ ਹੈਂ।
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੀਐ ॥
say vadbhaagee je tuDh Dhi-aa-iday jin satgur milee-ai.
Those who have met the true Guru and who meditate on You, are very fortunate.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਬਣੀਐ ॥
satgur kee banee sat saroop hai gurbaanee banee-ai.
The word of the true Guru is the embodiment of God and whoever lovingly remembers God with concentration, merges with Him.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਰੀਸੈ ਹੋਰਿ ਕਚੁ ਪਿਚੁ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਕੂੜੇ ਝੜਿ ਪੜੀਐ ॥
satgur kee reesai hor kach pich bolday say koorhi-aar koorhay jharh parhee-ai.
Emulating the true Guru, some false gurus utter indefensible and false words, but they fall from grace due to their falsehood.
ਕਈ ਕੂੜ ਦੇ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰੀਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕੱਚੀ-ਪਿੱਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੂੜ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਝੜ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਓਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੋਰੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਰੁ ਹੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੋ ਝਖਿ ਮਰਦੇ ਕੜੀਐ ॥੯॥
onHaa andar hor mukh hor hai bikh maa-i-aa no jhakh marday karhee-ai. ||9||
They do not speak their mind and ultimately they painfully waste away their life in pursuit of Maya (worldly wealth).||9||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੁੱਝ ਹੋਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਰ, ਉਹ ਵਿਹੁ-ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਝੁਰਦੇ ਤੇ ਖਪ ਖਪ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ l

Salok, Fourth Guru:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਘਾਲੇ ॥
satgur kee sayvaa nirmalee nirmal jan ho-ay so sayvaa ghaalay.
To follow the true Guru’s teachings is an immaculate deed, but only a person who has a pure mind (free from the vices) can perform this difficult task.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਇਕ)ਪਵ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਮਲੀਨ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਔਖੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਓਇ ਆਪੇ ਸਚੈ ਵਖਿ ਕਢੇ ਜਜਮਾਲੇ ॥
jin andar kapat vikaar jhooth o-ay aapay sachai vakh kadhay jajmaalay.
God Himself casts out those who have deceit, vices and falsehood within, like persons afflicted with contagious disease.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧੋਖਾ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਝੂਠ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕੋੜ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ) ਵੱਖਰੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
