ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jee-o sadaa Dhi-aa-ay too gurmukh aykankaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
follow the Guru’s teachings and always lovingly remember the one and the only one all pervading God. ||1||pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukhaa kay mukh ujlay gur sabdee beechaar.
By reflecting upon the word of the Guru, the faces of the Guru’s followers remain radiant with honor because they remain free of vices.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥
halat palat sukh paa-iday jap jap ridai muraar.
They enjoy inner peace both here and hereafter by lovingly remembering God.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਘਰ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
ghar hee vich mahal paa-i-aa gur sabdee veechaar. ||2||
They have realized God within their heart by reflecting on the Guru’s word. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ-ਥਾਂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਤਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹ ਫੇਰਹਿ ਮਥੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਲੇ ॥
satgur tay jo muh fayreh mathay tin kaalay.
Those who don’t pay attention to the true Guru’s teachings are disgraced.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਭਵਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਜੋਹੇ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ ॥
an-din dukh kamaavday nit johay jam jaalay.
They always act in such a way that brings nothing but suffering, and they always live in the fear of death.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਤੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਨੀ ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪਰਜਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
upnai sukh na daykhnee baho chintaa parjaalay. ||3||
They do not find inner peace even in their dreams, and they remain so miserable as if they are burnt by intense worry. ||3||
ਕਦੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣਦੇ, ਬਹੁਤ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਾੜ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
sabhnaa kaa daataa ayk hai aapay bakhas karay-i.
The benefactor of all is the one God, and He Himself bestows all blessings.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਵਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
kahnaa kichhoo na jaav-ee jis bhaavai tis day-ay.
God gives the gift of Naam upon whom He is pleased, and nothing can be said about it.
ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਕਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੯॥੪੨॥
naanak gurmukh paa-ee-ai aapay jaanai so-ay. ||4||9||42||
O’ Nanak, God is realized only through the Guru’s teachings and He Himself is omniscient. ||4||9||42||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ) ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੯॥੪੨॥

Siree Raag, Third Guru:
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਇ ॥
sachaa saahib sayvee-ai sach vadi-aa-ee day-ay.
We should always remember God with loving devotion and the one who does, God blesses him with everlasting glory.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
gur parsaadee man vasai ha-umai door karay-i.
That person, in whose mind God manifests by the Guru’s grace, drives out his ego from within.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਤਾ ਰਹੈ ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥
ih man Dhaavat taa rahai jaa aapay nadar karay-i. ||1||
This mind ceases wandering in pursuit of Maya, the worldly riches and power, only when God Himself bestows His gracious glance. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ) ਦੌੜਨੋਂ ਹਟਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray gurmukh har naam Dhi-aa-ay.
O’ brother, lovingly remember God by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਵੈ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam niDhaan sad man vasai mahlee paavai thaa-o. ||1||
That person, in whose mind the treasure of Naam is enshrined forever, receives place in God’s presence. ||1||pause||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਸਦਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਨਉ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥
manmukh man tan anDh hai tis na-o tha-ur na thaa-o.
The mind and body (all the sensory organs) of a self-willed person are blinded by the love for Maya, and he does not find inner peace anywhere in the world.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰ ਭੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰੇਕ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਭੀ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ-ਥਿੱਤਾ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਉਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈਂ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥
baho jonee bha-udaa firai ji-o sunjai ghar kaa-o.
He continues wandering through countless incarnations, like a crow wandering in a deserted house.
ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਸੁੰਞੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥
gurmatee ghat chaannaa sabad milai har naa-o. ||2||
By following the Guru’s teaching, one’s heart gets spiritually enlightened and God’s Name is realized through the Guru’s word. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥
tarai gun bikhi-aa anDh hai maa-i-aa moh gubaar.
The world is spiritually blinded by the three modes of Maya(vice, virtue and power); the love for Maya has spread the darkness of spiritual ignorance all over.
ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ ਜਗਤ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ (ਚੁਫੇਰੇ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ)।
ਲੋਭੀ ਅਨ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਪੜਿ ਵੇਦਾ ਕਰੈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥
lobhee an ka-o sayvday parh vaydaa karai pookaar.
The greedy people read Vedas and deliver discourses loudly, but in reality they are doing it out of love for Maya and not out of love for God.
ਲਾਲਚੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ) ਢੰਢੋਰਾ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਨਾ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
bikhi-aa andar pach mu-ay naa urvaar na paar. ||3||
Consumed by the love for Maya, they spiritually deteriorate and achieve nothing in this life or thereafter.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਨਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਰਲੇ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਰਲੇ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi visaari-aa jagat pitaa partipaal.
Engrossed in the love for Maya, they have forgotten God, the father and the cherisher of the world.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਾਝਹੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਬਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
baajhahu guroo achayt hai sabh baDhee jamkaal.
Without the Guru’s teachings, people are spiritually ignorant and are caught in the fear of death.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਗ਼ਾਫਿਲ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਕੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੩॥
naanak gurmat ubray sachaa naam samaal. ||4||10||43||
O’ Nanak, they can be saved only by lovingly remembering the eternal God’s Name through the Guru’s teachings. ||4||10||43||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੩॥

Siree Raag, Third Guru:
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਉਥਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
tarai gun maa-i-aa moh hai gurmukh cha-uthaa pad paa-ay.
The love for the three modes of Maya (vice, virtue and power) is prevalent in the world, but a Guru’s follower attains the fourth state which is spiritual exaltation.
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ (ਪਸਰ ਰਿਹਾ) ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
kar kirpaa maylaa-i-an har naam vasi-aa man aa-ay.
God becomes manifest in the mind of those whom He has united with His Name by bestowing His grace.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੋਤੈ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
potai jin kai punn hai tin satsangat maylaa-ay. ||1||
Those in whose destiny is the merit of virtues, God unites them with the holy congregation. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨੇਕੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhaa-ee ray gurmat saach rahaa-o.
O’ brother, follow the Guru’s teachings and remain merged in God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹੁ।
ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saacho saach kamaavanaa saachai sabad milaa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Practice nothing but truth in your daily life, and remain absorbed in the divine word of God’s praises. ||1||pause ||
ਨਿਰੋਲ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰੋ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
jinee naam pachhaani-aa tin vitahu bal jaa-o.
I dedicate myself to those who have understood the value of God’s Name.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝੀ ਹੈ l
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਾ ਚਲਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
aap chhod charnee lagaa chalaa tin kai bhaa-ay.
After renouncing self-conceit, I humbly submit myself to them (those who have understood the worth of Naam) and live according to their wishes.
ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
laahaa har har naam milai sehjay naam samaa-ay. ||2||
One who follows those who remember God, he remains imbued in God in a state of spiritual poise, and is blessed with the profit of God’s Name. ||2||
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ- ਰੂਪ ਲਾਭ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
bin gur mahal na paa-ee-ai naam na paraapat ho-ay.
Without the Guru’s teachings neither one realizes God’s presence within himself.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਐਸਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਲੋੜਿ ਲਹੁ ਜਿਦੂ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
aisaa satgur lorh lahu jidoo paa-ee-ai sach so-ay.
O’ brother, you should also search for such a true Guru, through whom you can realize that eternal God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਲੱਭ ਲੈ, ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ।
ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸੈ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
asur sanghaarai sukh vasai jo tis bhaavai so ho-ay. ||3||
One who realizes God through the Guru, he destroys the evil passions, lives in peace and firmly believes that whatever pleases God comes to pass. ||3||
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸਨੂੰ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜੇਹਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤੇਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jayhaa satgur kar jaani-aa tayho jayhaa sukh ho-ay.
As is the intensity of one’s belief in the Guru, so is the level of his inner peace.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਏਹੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਾਉ ਲਾਏ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
ayhu sahsaa moolay naahee bhaa-o laa-ay jan ko-ay.
There is not even a shred of doubt in the above statement, let anyone try to love the Guru and find out.
ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੇਖ ਲਵੇ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੪੪॥
naanak ayk jot du-ay moortee sabad milaavaa ho-ay. ||4||11||44||
O’ Nanak, the disciple who unites with the Guru through the Guru’s word, in spite of two bodies, their light (philosophy of life) becomes one. ||4||11||44||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਸ ਸਿੱਖ ਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਸਿੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ) ਜੋਤਿ ਇੱਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਦੋ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੪੪॥
