ਊਤਮੁ ਊਚੌ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਣ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਖ ॥
ootam oochou paarbarahm gun ant na jaaneh saykh.
that God is higher of the highest. No one knows the limits of His virtues, not even the highly respected muslim sheikh.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੇਖ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
ਨਾਰਦ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੁਕ ਬਿਆਸ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥

Naarad and many other saints including Sukhdev and Vyas sing God’s praises.
ਨਾਰਦ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਮੁਨੀ ਲੋਕ, ਸੁਖਦੇਵ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਆਸ (ਆਦਿਕ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ) ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਰਸ ਗੀਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਬੀਧੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਚੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
ras geeDhay har si-o beeDhay bhagat rachay bhagvant.
His devotees remain imbued with the essence of God’s Name, and attuned to Him they always remain immersed in His loving devotion.
ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮੋਹ ਮਾਨ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਪਾਈ ਸਰਨਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
moh maan bharam binsi-o paa-ee saran da-i-aal.
Those who have sought the refuge of the merciful God, their love for Maya (worldly riches), ego and doubt are destroyed.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸੇ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
charan kamal man tan basay darsan daykh nihaal.
They, within whom is enshrined the love of God, feel delighted after realizing Him.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਖਿੜ ਪਿਆ।
ਲਾਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੋਟਾ ਹਿਰੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
laabh milai totaa hirai saaDhsang liv laa-ay.
By attuning to God in the holy congregation, high spiritual status is obtained and previously incurred spiritual loss due to vices is recovered.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰੂਪ ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਪਿਆਂ ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਘਾਟ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਘਾਟ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਖਾਟਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੬॥
khaat khajaanaa gun niDh haray naanak naam Dhi-aa-ay. ||6||
O’ Nanak, meditate on God’s Name and gather the treasure of His virtues||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ, ਤੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ

ਸੰਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਥਹਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਤਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
sant mandal har jas katheh boleh sat subhaa-ay.
The Saintly people in their congregation, sing the praises of God and talk about Him with true loving devotion.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਐ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੭॥
naanak man santokhee-ai aykas si-o liv laa-ay. ||7||
O’ Nanak, the mind remains contented by attuning to God. ||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l

ਸਪਤਮਿ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਟੂਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
saptam sanchahu naam Dhan toot na jaahi bhandaar.
Seventh lunar day: Gather the wealth of God’s Name; this is a treasure which shall never be exhausted.
ਸੱਤਵੀਂ ਥਿਤ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੋ। ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੱਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
santsangat meh paa-ee-ai ant na paaraavaar.
This treasure of God’s Name, of which there is no limit, is received only in the company of saints.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਪਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ।
ਆਪੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
aap tajahu gobind bhajahu saran parahu har raa-ay.
Renounce your self conceit, meditate on God and seek His refuge.
ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੋ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੁ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹੋ।
ਦੂਖ ਹਰੈ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
dookh harai bhavjal tarai man chindi-aa fal paa-ay.
Your sorrows shall depart, you shall swim across the terrifying world-ocean of vices, and your mind’s desires shall be fulfilled.
ਤੇਰਾ ਦੁੱਖੜਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ, ਤੂੰ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਲ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਮੇਵਾ ਪਾ ਲਵੇਗਾ।
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
aath pahar man har japai safal janam parvaan.
The one who always meditates on God’s Name with loving devotion, his human life becomes successful and approved in God’s Court.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
antar baahar sadaa sang karnaihaar pachhaan.
Inwardly and outwardly, realize that the, the creato is with you.
ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ, ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ, ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ।
ਸੋ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੋ ਸਖਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥
so saajan so sakhaa meet jo har kee mat day-ay.
That person is our real friend and well-wisher who teaches us to always meditate on God with love and devotion.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਸੱਜਣ ਹੈ, ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ, ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇਇ ॥੭॥
naanak tis balihaarnai har har naam japay-ay. ||7||
O’ Nanak, I dedicate my life to the one who always meditates on God’s Name. |7|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈਅਹਿ ਤਜੀਅਹਿ ਅਵਰਿ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥
aath pahar gun gaa-ee-ah tajee-ah avar janjaal.
If we renounce all worldly entanglements and always sing the praises of God,
ਜੇ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਣ, ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੱਡੇ ਜਾਣ,
ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੮॥
jamkankar johi na sak-ee naanak parabhoo da-i-aal. ||8||
then, O’ Nanak, God becomes merciful and the fear of death doesn’t bother.|8|
ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ l

Eighth lunar day, the eight miraculous powers of the Siddhas, the nine treasures,
(ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਅੱਠੇ ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਗਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਬੁਧਿ ॥
sagal padaarath pooran buDh.
all worldly objects, perfect intellect,
ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਅਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਉਕਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੀ।
ਕਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ॥
kaval pargaas sadaa aanand.
delighted heart (like a lotus in bloom), eternal bliss,
(ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਚਾਉ ਹੀ ਚਾਉ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਾ) ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਿਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਰੋਧਰ ਮੰਤ ॥
nirmal reet niroDhar mant.
immaculate conduct, the infallible Mantra,
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ) ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਜ਼ਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਇਸ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
sagal Dharam pavitar isnaan.
all righteous deeds, sacred purifying baths,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ) ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ (ਦਾ ਧਰਮ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਊਚ ਬਿਸੇਖ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sabh meh ooch bisaykh gi-aan.
and the most sublime knowledge,
(ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਿਆਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
har har bhajan pooray gur sang.
are obtained by meditating on God’s Name in the company of the perfect Guru.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਪਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੮॥
jap taree-ai naanak naam har rang. ||8||
O’ Nanak, we swim across the worldly ocean of vices when imbued with God’s love and meditating on His Name.||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ

ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਸੁਆਦ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
naaraa-in nah simri-o mohi-o su-aad bikaar.
The one who has never meditated on God, remains enticed by the relishes of worldly wealth and vices.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੯॥
naanak naam bisaari-ai narak surag avtaar. ||9||
O’ Nanak, forsaking God’s Name, one keeps being born again and again to go through hell and heaven (the pain and pleasure of life).||9||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ (ਭੋਗਣ ਲਈ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ) ਜਨਮ ਲੈਣੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ l

ਨਉਮੀ ਨਵੇ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਅਪਵੀਤ ॥
na-umee navay chhidar apveet.
The ninth lunar day: the nine openings of the body (eyes, ears, nostrils,etc.) of those become defiled,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਨ ਨੱਕ ਆਦਿਕ ਨੌ ਹੀ ਇੰਦਰੇ ਗੰਦੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰੀ) ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
har naam na jaapeh karat bipreet.
who do not meditate on God’s Name, but indulge in uncivilized evil acts.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦੇ। ਉਹ (ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਦੇ) ਉਲਟ (ਮੰਦੇ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰਮਹਿ ਬਕਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਨਿੰਦ ॥
par tari-a rameh bakeh saaDh nind.
They commit adultery, slander the Saints,
ਉਹ ਪਰਾਈਆਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਭਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਬਿੰਦ ॥
karan na sunhee har jas bind.
and do not listen to even a tiny bit of God’s Praise.
ਅਤੇ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ।
ਹਿਰਹਿ ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ ਉਦਰ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
hireh par darab udar kai taa-ee.
They steal wealth from others for the sake of their own survival,
ਆਪਣਾ ਪੇਟ ਭਰਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਚੁਰਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਨਿਵਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
agan na nivrai tarisnaa na bujhaa-ee.
still the fire of their desire is not quenched and their greed is not satiated.
(ਫੇਰ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਲਾਲਚ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਦੀ।
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਏਹ ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
har sayvaa bin ayh fal laagay.
Such are the consequences of not remembering God with loving devotion.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਉੱਦਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਰ-ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਫਲ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਮਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੯॥
naanak parabh bisrat mar jameh abhaagay. ||9||
O’ Nanak, by forsaking God, these unfortunate people keep suffering in the cycles of birth and death. ||9||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿੱਤ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l

ਦਸ ਦਿਸ ਖੋਜਤ ਮੈ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਜਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਤ ਸੋਇ ॥
das dis khojat mai firi-o jat daykh-a-u tat so-ay.
I have wandered, searching in all the ten directions, wherever I look I see God,
ਮੈਂ ਦਸੀ ਪਾਸੀ ਹੀ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਫਿਰਿਆ ਹਾਂ। ਜਿਥੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਮਨੁ ਬਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੦॥
man bas aavai naankaa jay pooran kirpaa ho-ay. ||10||
but, O’ Nanak, the mind only comes under control when one is blessed with the kindness of the perfect God. ||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਨ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਸਭ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ l

Pauree:
ਦਸਮੀ ਦਸ ਦੁਆਰ ਬਸਿ ਕੀਨੇ ॥
dasmee das du-aar bas keenay.
The tenth lunar day: when one controls all the ten doors of the body (sense organs-ears, eyes, nostrils, mouth, sensual organs, and brain),
ਦੱਸਵੀ ਤਿੱਥ- ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਸਾਂ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਿਆਂ (ਦੋ ਕੰਨ, ਦੋ ਅੱਖਾਂ, ਦੋ ਨਾਸਾਂ, ਮੂੰਹ, ਗੁਦਾ, ਲਿੰਗ, ਤੇ ਦਿਮਾਗ਼) ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਲੀਨੇ ॥
man santokh naam jap leenay.
and meditates on God’s Name, the mind achieves contentment.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਨੀ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਜਸੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
karnee sunee-ai jas gopaal.
Then such a person listens to God’s praises,
ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣੀਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਨੈਨੀ ਪੇਖਤ ਸਾਧ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
nainee paykhat saaDh da-i-aal.
and sees the sight of the kind Saint-Guru,
ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ॥
rasnaa gun gaavai bay-ant.
sings the praises of infinite God,
ਜੀਭ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
man meh chitvai pooran bhagvant.
and remembers the perfect God with love and devotion,
ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਭਗਵਾਨ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣ) ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
