Shalok:
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀਆ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਨ ॥
ha-o ha-o karat bihaanee-aa saakat mugaDh ajaan.
The foolish, ignorant and cynics spend their entire life indulging in their false pride and ego.
ਮਾਇਆ-ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਇਸੇ ਵਹਣ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਵਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਹੋਵਾਂ।
ੜੜਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਜਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਨ ॥੧॥
rharhak mu-ay ji-o tarikhaavaNt naanak kirat kamaan. ||1||
O’ Nanak, as the result of their deeds done under ego, they spiritually die suffering in agony like thirsty a person dies without water ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਹਾਇਆ ਪਾਣੀ ਖੁਣੋਂ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ॥੧॥

ੜਾੜਾ ੜਾੜਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ॥

Rarra: Inner Conflicts arising from ego are eliminated in the company of the holy
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਝਗੜੇ (ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕੰਡੇ ਦੀ ਚੋਭ) ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਤਤੁ ਨਾਮ ਅਰਾਧੂ ॥
karam Dharam tat naam araaDhoo.
Meditation on Naam with loving devotion is the essence of all religious deeds.
ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਚੋੜ ਹੈ।
ਰੂੜੋ ਜਿਹ ਬਸਿਓ ਰਿਦ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
roorho jih basi-o rid maahee.
In whose heart comes to dwell the beautiful God,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸੇ,
ਉਆ ਕੀ ੜਾੜਿ ਮਿਟਤ ਬਿਨਸਾਹੀ ॥
u-aa kee rhaarh mitat binsaahee.
his conflict arising out of ego ceases to exist.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਝਗੜਾ (ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਕੰਡੇ ਦੀ ਚੋਭ) ਮਰ ਤੇ ਮੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ੜਾੜਿ ਕਰਤ ਸਾਕਤ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
rhaarh karat saakat gaavaaraa.
Only those foolish and faithless cynics indulge in strife and jealousy,
ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਲੀ ਰੜਕ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਉਹੀ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਾਇਆ-ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜੇਹ ਹੀਐ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
jayh hee-ai ahaN-buDh bikaaraa.
in whose heart is self-conceit and evil.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਜੇ ਭੈੜ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ੜਾੜਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ੜਾੜਿ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
rhaarhaa gurmukh rhaarh mitaa-ee.
Those who have erased their egotistical conflicts by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਲੀ ਚੋਭ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਈ l
ਨਿਮਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਮਝਾਈ ॥੪੭॥
nimakh maahi naanak samjhaa-ee. ||47||
O’ Nanak, the Guru makes them aware of the spiritual bliss in an instant. ||47||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਫੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਝਲਕ ਵਿਖਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪੭॥

ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਓਟ ਗਹੁ ਉਕਤਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥
saaDhoo kee man ot gahu ukat si-aanap ti-aag.
O’ my mind, give up your clever arguments and seek the refuge of the Guru.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਦਲੀਲ-ਬਾਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਛੱਡ।
ਗੁਰ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਜਿਹ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੧॥
gur deekhi-aa jih man basai naanak mastak bhaag. ||1||
O’ Nanak, one in whose mind resides the Guru’s teachings, consider that this person has good preordained destiny. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ,ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਸੀਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ॥੧॥

ਸਸਾ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੇ ਅਬ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
sasaa saran paray ab haaray.
Sassa:O’ God, after getting tired of trying other means, we have now surrendered myself to your protection
ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਈਂ! ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੂਕਾਰੇ ॥

All the scriptures, like the Shastras, the Smritis and the Vedas proclaim this.
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਤੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ) ਦੇ ਉਚਾਰਕੇ l
ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਤ ਸੋਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
soDhat soDhat soDh beechaaraa.
After carefully reflecting again and again I have come to the conclusion,
ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਇਸੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਤੇ ਅਪੜੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਨਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥
bin har bhajan nahee chhutkaaraa.
that without meditating on God, there can be no emancipation from ego.
ਕਿ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਚੋਭ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਹਮ ਭੂਲਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
saas saas ham bhoolanhaaray.
We make mistakes with each and every breath.
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਸੁਆਸ ਸੁਆਸ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਗਨਤ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥
tum samrath agnat apaaray.
O’ God, You are all powerful, infinite and Master of countless virtues.
ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਸ਼ਕਤੀਵਾਨ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੇ ਕੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
saran paray kee raakh da-i-aalaa.
O’ merciful Master, we have sought Your shelter, please save our honor.
ਹੇ ਦਿਆਲ! ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੪੮॥
naanak tumray baal gupaalaa. ||48||
O’ God, we are Your children, says Nanak. ||48||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ, ਤੇ ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੪੮॥

ਖੁਦੀ ਮਿਟੀ ਤਬ ਸੁਖ ਭਏ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭਏ ਅਰੋਗ ॥
khudee mitee tab sukh bha-ay man tan bha-ay arog.
When ego was removed, peace prevailed and the mind and body became healthy.
ਜਦੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਿਟੀ , ਤਦੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਆ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਤਨ ਨਰੋਏ ਹੋ ਗਏ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਆਇਆ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧॥
naanak daristee aa-i-aa ustat karnai jog. ||1||
O’ Nanak, then the praiseworthy God became visible everywhere. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤਦ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੋ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਲਾਇਕ ਹੈ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥

ਖਖਾ ਖਰਾ ਸਰਾਹਉ ਤਾਹੂ ॥
khakhaa kharaa saraaha-o taahoo.
Khakha: I truly praise the God with all my heart,
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮਨ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਜੋ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਊਨੇ ਸੁਭਰ ਭਰਾਹੂ ॥
jo khin meh oonay subhar bharaahoo.
who, in an instant, fills to the brim the virtueless hearts with virtues.
ਜੋ ਇਕ ਖਿਣ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਹਿਰਦਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ (ਭਲੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਭਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ (ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੱਖਣੇ ਸਨ।
ਖਰਾ ਨਿਮਾਨਾ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
kharaa nimaanaa hot paraanee.
When a person becomes totally humble,
(ਖ਼ੁਦੀ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਜਦੋਂ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਰ-ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਪੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥
an-din jaapai parabh nirbaanee.
then he always meditates on God who is free from the affects of Maya.
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਵੈ ਖਸਮ ਤ ਉਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਤਾ ॥
bhaavai khasam ta u-aa sukh daytaa.
And he becomes pleasing to the Master-God who then grants him bliss.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ)ਮਨੁੱਖ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਐਸੋ ਆਗਨਤਾ ॥
paarbarahm aiso aagnataa.
Such is the limitless Supreme God,
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਅਨੰਤ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ,
ਅਸੰਖ ਖਤੇ ਖਿਨ ਬਖਸਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
asaNkh khatay khin bakhsanhaaraa.
He forgives our countless sins in an instant.
ਉਹ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਖਿਣ ਵਿਚ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਰਾ ॥੪੯॥
naanak saahib sadaa da-i-aaraa. ||49||
O’ Nanak, the Master-God is merciful forever. ||49||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੪੯॥

ਸਤਿ ਕਹਉ ਸੁਨਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
sat kaha-o sun man mayray saran parahu har raa-ay.
Listen O’ mind, I am telling you the plain truth; surrender yourself to the protection of the Sovereign God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੀ ਗੱਲ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ।
ਉਕਤਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਏ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
ukat si-aanap sagal ti-aag naanak la-ay samaa-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, shed all your cleverness and argumentation, the merciful God will merge you into Himself. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਲੀਲ-ਬਾਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਏਗਾ ॥੧॥

ਸਸਾ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਛਾਡੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥
sasaa si-aanap chhaad i-aanaa.
Sassa, an alphabet: O’ my ignorant min, forsake all your cleverness.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਮਨ! ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਛੱਡ।
ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਤੀਆਨਾ ॥
hikmat hukam na parabh patee-aanaa.
God is not pleased with clever tricks and commands.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਆਕੜ ਵਿਖਾਇਆਂ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਸਹਸ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
sahas bhaat karahi chaturaa-ee.
You may practice a thousand forms of cleverness,
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਭੀ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ,
ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਏਕ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
sang tuhaarai ayk na jaa-ee.
but not even one will go along with you in the end.
ਇੱਕ ਚਲਾਕੀ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਇਗੀ,
ਸੋਊ ਸੋਊ ਜਪਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
so-oo so-oo jap din raatee.
Day and night keep meditating on God’s Name,
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹੁ,
ਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਚਲੈ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਸਾਥੀ ॥
ray jee-a chalai tuhaarai saathee.
O’ my mind, Naam alone would go along with you.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਬੱਸ!ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਵੈ ਜਿਹ ਆਪੈ ॥
saaDh sayvaa laavai jih aapai.
One whom God Himself assigns to the teachings of the Guru.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥੫੦॥
naanak taa ka-o dookh na bi-aapai. ||50||
O’ Nanak, he suffers no pain or sorrow. ||50||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੫੦॥

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਨਾ ਮਨਿ ਵੂਠੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
har har mukh tay bolnaa man voothai sukh ho-ay.
When God comes to enshrine in the heart by repeatedly uttering His Name then spiritual bliss is attained.
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak sabh meh rav rahi-aa thaan thanantar so-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, God is pervading all hearts, all places and interspaces. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

ਹੇਰਉ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸਗਲ ਕੈ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥
hayra-o ghat ghat sagal kai poor rahay bhagvaan.
I see that God is pervading in each and every heart.
ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਵਤ ਆਏ ਸਦ ਸਦੀਵ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
hovat aa-ay sad sadeev dukh bhanjan gur gi-aan.
The Guru’s teachings reveals this knowledge that God, the destroyer of sorrows, has been there forever.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ ਚਲਿਆ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l,
ਹਉ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਤਿਹ ਹਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਹ ਆਪਿ ॥
ha-o chhutkai ho-ay anand tih ha-o naahee tah aap.
Bliss is attained by eradicating ego; where there is no ego, God Himself is there.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਅਭਾਵ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਜਨਮਹ ਮਰਨ ਸੰਤਸੰਗ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
hatay dookh janmah maran satsang partaap.
By the blessing of the company of the saints the pain of birth and death ends.
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਿਤ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
hit kar naam darirhai da-i-aalaa.
One who lovingly enshrines the Name of the Merciful God within his heart,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥
santeh sang hot kirpaalaa.
and dwells in the holy congregation; God bestows mercy on him.
ਜੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
