ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟੈ ਜਮ ਪੰਥ ਕੀ ਜਾਸੁ ਬਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
taraas mitai jam panth kee jaas basai man naa-o.
In whose heart dwells the Name of God, his fear of death ends.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਮ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਠਾਉ ॥
gat paavahi mat ho-ay pargaas mahlee paavahi thaa-o.
He attains supreme spiritual state, his intellect is enlightened with divine knowledge and he remains focused on the meditation on God.
ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ,ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ।
ਤਾਹੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਧਨੁ ਚਲੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜੋਬਨ ਨਹ ਰਾਜ ॥
taahoo sang na Dhan chalai garih joban nah raaj.
Wealth, home, youth or power would not accompany you in the end.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਛੱਡ, ਧਨ, ਘਰ ਜੁਆਨੀ, ਰਾਜ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਾ;
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹਹੁ ਇਹੈ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਕਾਜ ॥
satsang simrat rahhu ihai tuhaarai kaaj.
In the holy congregation meditate on Naam, which alone would be of use to you in the end.
ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਬੱਸ! ਇਹੀ ਅੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਵੇਗਾ।
ਤਾਤਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਉ ਤਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਆਪ ॥
taataa kachhoo na ho-ee hai ja-o taap nivaarai aap.
When God Himself eradicates our malady of ego then no sorrow afflicts us.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ (ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ) ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮਹਿ ਆਪਹਿ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ॥੩੨॥
paratipaalai naanak hameh aapeh maa-ee baap. ||32||
O’ Nanak, God Himself cherishes us like our mother and father. ||32||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਾਡੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩੨॥

ਥਾਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਘਾਲਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਥ ॥
thaakay baho bidh ghaaltay taripat na tarisna laath.
People are exhausted struggling in all sorts of ways but their yearning for Maya is not satiated.
ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਕਰਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹਾਰ ਹੁੱਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਰੱਜਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ;
ਸੰਚਿ ਸੰਚਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਨ ਸਾਥ ॥੧॥
sanch sanch saakat moo-ay naanak maa-i-aa na saath. ||1||
O’ Nanak, the cynics spiritually die amassing more and more worldly wealth but the Maya does not go with them in the end. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਾਇਆ-ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੋੜ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਭੀ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਭਦੀ ॥੧॥

ਥਥਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋਊ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਇ ਪਸਾਰਹੁ ਪਾਵ ॥
thathaa thir ko-oo nahee kaa-ay pasaarahu paav.
Thatha, an alphabet: No one is going to stay in this world forever. Why do you keep expanding your worldly possessions?
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਇਥੇ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿਣਾ, ਕਿਉਂ ਪੈਰ ਪਸਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ? (ਕਿਉਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਖਿਲਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ?)
ਅਨਿਕ ਬੰਚ ਬਲ ਛਲ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਏਕ ਉਪਾਵ ॥
anik banch bal chhal karahu maa-i-aa ayk upaav.
You commit so many fraudulent and deceitful actions while chasing Maya.
ਤੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੀ ਕਈ ਪਾਪੜ ਵੇਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਠੱਗੀਆਂ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਥੈਲੀ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਥਾਕਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
thailee sanchahu saram karahu thaak parahu gaavaar.
O’ fool, you wear down working hard for the sake of worldly wealth.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਤੂੰ ਧਨ ਜੋੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਧਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਥੱਕ-ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਮਨ ਕੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅੰਤੇ ਅਉਸਰ ਬਾਰ ॥
man kai kaam na aavee antay a-osar baar.
But in the end this worldly wealth shall be of no use to your soul.
ਪਰ ਅੰਤ ਸਮੇ ਇਹ ਧਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵੇਗਾ।
ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਲੇਹੁ ॥
thit paavhu gobid bhajahu santeh kee sikh layho.
Attain spiritual peace by meditating on God through the Guru’s teachings.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ (ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ) ਮਿਲੇਗੀ।
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਦ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਇਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਸਨੇਹੁ ॥
pareet karahu sad ayk si-o i-aa saachaa asnayhu.
Always embrace love for God, this is the only true love!
ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ (ਦਿਲੀ) ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਣਾ। ਇਹੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨੋ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਏਕੈ ਹਾਥ ॥
kaaran karan karaavano sabh biDh aikai haath.
O’ God, You are the doer, the cause of causes and everything is under Your command.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!)ਹਰੇਕ ਸਬਬ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਅਨਾਥ ॥੩੩॥
jit jit laavhu tit tit lageh naanak jant anaath. ||33||
O’ Nanak, helpless beings are engaged in whatever task You assign them. |33|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿੱਧਰ ਤੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਧਰ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਬੇ-ਵੱਸ) ਹਨ ॥੩੩॥

ਦਾਸਹ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ॥
daasah ayk nihaari-aa sabh kachh dayvanhaar.
The devotees of God has realized that God is the bestower of everything.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ) ਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਦਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੧॥
saas saas simrat raheh naanak daras aDhaar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, depending only on the support of God they meditate on Him with each and every breath. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਸ ਸੁਆਸ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥

ਦਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕਉ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ॥
dadaa daataa ayk hai sabh ka-o dayvanhaar.
Dada, an alphabet: God is the only one benefactor, who gives to all.
ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ (ਐਸਾ) ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਅਪੜਾਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ,
ਦੇਂਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅਗਨਤ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
dayNday tot na aavee agnat bharay bhandaar.
His countless treasures are always full, no shortage ever occurs while He gives.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਵੰਡਦਿਆਂ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
ਦੈਨਹਾਰੁ ਸਦ ਜੀਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
dainhaar sad jeevanhaaraa.
The Great Giver is there forever.
ਦਾਤਾਰ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ,
ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਿਉ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਾ ॥
man moorakh ki-o taahi bisaaraa.
O’ my foolish mind, why have you forgotten Him?
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਦੋਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
dos nahee kaahoo ka-o meetaa.
O’ my friend, no one can be blamed for forsaking God,
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦੋਸ਼ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ)
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਬੰਧੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਤਾ ॥
maa-i-aa moh banDh parabh keetaa.
because God has created the barrier of emotional attachment to Maya which makes one to forsake God.
(ਅਸਲ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਪੇ ॥
darad nivaareh jaa kay aapay.
Those, whose pain from affliction to Maya is removed by God Himself.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ) ਚੋਭਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ॥੩੪॥
naanak tay tay gurmukh Dharaapay. ||34||
O’ Nanak, those Guru’s follower are liberated from the craving for Maya. ||34||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੩੪॥

ਧਰ ਜੀਅਰੇ ਇਕ ਟੇਕ ਤੂ ਲਾਹਿ ਬਿਡਾਨੀ ਆਸ ॥
Dhar jee-aray ik tayk too laahi bidaanee aas.
O my soul, give up your hopes in others and rely on the support of God alone.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ (ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ) ਦੀ ਆਸ ਲਾਹ ਦੇ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
naanak naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai kaaraj aavai raas. ||1||
O Nanak, every task is accomplished successfully by meditating on Naam. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Dhadha, an alphabet: One’s wanderings after worldly wealth stops only when one is blessed with the holy congregation.
ਜੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬਹਣ-ਖਲੋਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਬੇ-ਸਬਰੀ ਵਾਲੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਧੁਰ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਤਉ ਹੋਇ ਮਨਹਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
Dhur tay kirpaa karahu aap ta-o ho-ay maneh pargaas.
O’ God, on whom You bestow Your grace, his mind is enlightened with the divine knowledge and his wandering after Maya ends.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਹੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਧਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਤੇਊ ਸਚ ਸਾਹਾ ॥
Dhan saachaa tay-oo sach saahaa.
Those who have the wealth of Naam are truly wealthy,
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਅਸਲ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਉਹ ਹਨ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਸਾਹਾ ॥
har har poonjee naam bihaasaa.
and they deal only in the wealth of Naam.
ਜੋ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਧੀਰਜੁ ਜਸੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਤਿਹ ਬਨਿਆ ॥
Dheeraj jas sobhaa tih bani-aa.
Patience, glory and honor come to those,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਤਾ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਜਿਹ ਸੁਨਿਆ ॥
har har naam sarvan jih suni-aa.
who listen to God’s Name with full concentration.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਣਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਹ ਘਟਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
gurmukh jih ghat rahay samaa-ee.
Those Guru’s followers in whose heart enshrines the Name of God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੩੫॥
naanak tih jan milee vadaa-ee. ||35||

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩੫॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
naanak naam naam jap japi-aa antar baahar rang.
O Nanak, those who have lovingly meditated on Naam while engaged in their daily chores,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਕੰਮ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ)
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਨਰਕੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ॥੧॥
gur poorai updaysi-aa narak naahi saaDhsang. ||1||
they dwell in the holy congregation and by following the teachings from the Perfect Guru, they are not afflicted by the intense sufferings ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਘੋਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਂਹਦਾ ॥੧॥

Pauree:
ਨੰਨਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਪਰਹਿ ਤੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
nannaa narak pareh tay naahee.
Nanna, an alphabet: Those are not afflicted by the intense suffering,
ਉਹ ਘੋਰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਟੋਏ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਸਾਹੀ ॥
jaa kai man tan naam basaahee.
in whose heart and body dwells Naam.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋ ਜਪਤੇ ॥
naam niDhaan gurmukh jo japtay.
Those Guru’s followers who meditate on the treasure of Naam,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਖਪਤੇ ॥
bikh maa-i-aa meh naa o-ay khaptay.
are not ruined in the entanglements of poisonous worldly wealth.
ਉਹ (ਫਿਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ (ਦੌੜ-ਭਜ ਕਰਦੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਖਪਦੇ।
ਨੰਨਾਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ਤਾ ਕਹੁ ॥
nannaakaar na hotaa taa kaho.
Maya cannot cause any hurdle in the life of those,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਕੋਈ ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਜਾ ਕਹੁ ॥
naam mantar gur deeno jaa kaho.
whom the Guru has given the Mantra of Naam.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
