ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਅੱਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੩॥੧੫੬॥

Raag Gauree, Fifth Gurul:
ਮਾਤੋ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਾਤੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maato har rang maato. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I am intoxicated too, but I am intoxicated with the love of God. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਭੀ) ਮਤਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਂ (ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਤਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਓੁਹੀ ਪੀਓ ਓੁਹੀ ਖੀਓ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਦੀਓ ਦਾਨੁ ਕੀਓ ॥
ohee pee-o ohee khee-o gureh dee-o daan kee-o.
I have consumed only the intoxicant of God’s Name and I am inebriated with it. It is the Guru who has given me this drink of Naam in charity,
ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ-ਮਦ ਹੀ ਪੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਾਮ-ਮਦ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਖੀਵਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਮਦ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਉਆਹੂ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤੋ ॥੧॥
u-aahoo si-o man raato. ||1||
and it is this very drink of Naam that my mind is imbued with. ||1||
ਹੁਣ ਉਸੇ ਨਾਮ-ਮਦ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਰੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਓੁਹੀ ਭਾਠੀ ਓੁਹੀ ਪੋਚਾ ਉਹੀ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਉਹੀ ਰੂਚਾ ॥
ohee bhaathee ohee pochaa uhee pi-aaro uhee roochaa.
God’s Name is my distilling furnace. God’s Name is the cooling plaster on the distilling pipe and it is also the the cup for drinking; Love with Naam is my intoxication.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਭੱਠੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਠੰਢਕ ਅਪੜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪੋਚਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਮਦ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਗਨ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਓਹੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਤੋ ॥੨॥
man oho sukh jaato. ||2||
My mind is enjoying the bliss of that very drink of Naam. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ (ਨਾਮ-ਮਦ ਦਾ) ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਸਹਜ ਕੇਲ ਅਨਦ ਖੇਲ ਰਹੇ ਫੇਰ ਭਏ ਮੇਲ ॥ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਰਾਤੋ ॥੩॥੪॥੧੫੭॥
sahj kayl anad khayl rahay fayr bha-ay mayl.nanak gur sabad paraato. ||3||4||157||
O’ Nanak, one whose heart is pierced with the Guru’s immaculate word, enjoys the pleasing frolicks in intuitive peace; his cycle of birth and death ends and he merges with God.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਚੋਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥੪॥੧੪੭॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੀਤਾ ਲੇਹੁ ਆਗੈ ਬਿਖਮ ਪੰਥੁ ਭੈਆਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har naam layho meetaa layho aagai bikham panth bhai-aan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my friend, always meditate on God’s Name because hereafter the path is terrifying and treacherous with vices and worldly attachments. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ, ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ। ਅਗੇ ਰਸਤਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਡਰਾਵਨਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੇਵਤ ਸੇਵਤ ਸਦਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਾਲੁ ॥
sayvat sayvat sadaa sayv tayrai sang basat hai kaal.
Contemplate Naam forever and serve God by remembering Him with devotion; Death, always hangs over your head.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਮੌਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਹੋ ਕਾਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੁ ॥੧॥
kar sayvaa tooN saaDh kee ho kaatee-ai jam jaal. ||1||
Serve the Guru by contemplation on Naam and you will be freed from the cycle of birth and death. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਮੋਹ- ਜਾਲ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਤੀਰਥ ਕੀਏ ਬਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਧੇ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
hom jag tirath kee-ay bich ha-umai baDhay bikaar.
The ego of performing rituals such as fire worship, sacrificial feasts and pilgrimage increases the load of sins.
ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਿਰੇ ਹਵਨ ਯੱਗ ਅਤੇ ਯਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਾਪ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਰਕੁ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਦੁਇ ਭੁੰਚਨਾ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੨॥
narak surag du-ay bhunchanaa ho-ay bahur bahur avtaar. ||2||
This way, one has to go through both, hell and heaven and one takes birth again and again. ||2||
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਰਕ ਤੇ ਸੁਰਗ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਭੋਗਣੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਚੱਕਰ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਿਵ ਪੁਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਪੁਰੀ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕੋ ਥਾਉ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
siv puree barahm indar puree nihchal ko thaa-o naahi.
The realm of Shiva, the realms of Brahma and Indra as well – none of these places is eternal.
ਸ਼ਿਵ-ਪੁਰੀ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਪੁਰੀ, ਇੰਦ੍ਰ-ਪੁਰੀ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਥਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਾਕਤ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
bin har sayvaa sukh nahee ho saakat aavahi jaahi. ||3||
Without the devotional service of God, there is no peace and the faithless cynics remain in the cycle of birth and death.||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ। ਸਾਕਤ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਹਨ,॥੩॥
ਜੈਸੋ ਗੁਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਮੈ ਤੈਸੋ ਕਹਿਆ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ॥
jaiso gur updaysi-aa mai taiso kahi-aa pukaar.
As the Guru has taught me, so have I spoken.
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਦੱਸ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫੮॥
naanak kahai sun ray manaa kar keertan ho-ay uDhaar. ||4||1||158||
Nanak says, “O’ my mind, listen! sing the praises of God so that you may be saved from the rounds of birth and death”. ||4||1||158||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸੁਣ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ, ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫੮॥

ਪਾਇਓ ਬਾਲ ਬੁਧਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਰੇ ॥
paa-i-o baal buDh sukh ray.
It is by adopting traits of an innocent mind of a child that I have found inner peace.
ਬਾਲਕਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਹਾਨਿ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਦੂਖ ਸੁਖ ਚਿਤਿ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
harakh sog haan mirat dookh sukh chit samsar gur milay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Since I met the Guru and started following his teachings, joy and sorrow, profit and loss, birth and death, pain and pleasure – all appear to be the same to my consciousness. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ, ਗ਼ਮੀ, ਘਾਟਾ, ਮੌਤ, ਦੁਖ-ਸੁਖ (ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ) ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ (ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਹਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੋਚਉ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਦੁਖਨੁ ਭਰੇ ॥
ja-o la-o ha-o kichh socha-o chitva-o ta-o la-o dukhan bharay.
As long as I plotted and planned things, I was full of frustrations.
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੀਆਂ) ਕੁਝ (ਸੋਚਾਂ) ਸੋਚਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਚਿਤਵਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਮੈਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਜਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਉ ਆਨਦ ਸਹਜੇ ॥੧॥
ja-o kirpaal gur pooraa bhayti-aa ta-o aanad sehjay. ||1||
Since I met the perfect and merciful Guru and started following his teachings, intuitively, I am in bliss. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ (ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਜੇਤੀ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਕਰਮ ਹਉ ਕੀਏ ਤੇਤੇ ਬੰਧ ਪਰੇ ॥
jaytee si-aanap karam ha-o kee-ay taytay banDh paray.
The more deeds I did through cleverness, the more bonds I was saddled with.
ਮੈਂ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਉਤਨੇ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਗਏ।
ਜਉ ਸਾਧੂ ਕਰੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿਓ ਤਬ ਹਮ ਮੁਕਤ ਭਏ ॥੨॥
ja-o saaDhoo kar mastak Dhari-o tab ham mukat bha-ay. ||2||
I got liberated from the worldly bonds when the Guru showered his blessing.||2||
ਜਦੋਂ (ਹੁਣ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਮੇਰੋ ਮੇਰੋ ਕਰਤੋ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਘੇਰੇ ॥
ja-o la-o mayro mayro karto ta-o la-o bikh ghayray.
As long as I was being possessive of the materialistic things, I was surrounded by the poisonous Maya.
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮੈਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ , ਤਦ ਤਕ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਨੇ ਘੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ l
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਅਰਪੀ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਉ ਤਬ ਹਮ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੋਏ ॥੩॥
man tan buDh arpee thaakur ka-o tab ham sahj so-ay. ||3||
But when I compeletely surrendered myself in thought and action to my Master-God, I intuitively began to dwell in peace. ||3||
ਜਦ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ , ਤਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਪੋਟ ਉਠਾਈ ਚਲਿਅਉ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਡਾਨ ਭਰੇ ॥
ja-o la-o pot uthaa-ee chali-a-o ta-o la-o daan bharay.
As long as I carried the load of worldly attachments, I continued to live a life full of discontentment.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮੈਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਪੋਟਲੀ (ਸਿਰ ਤੇ) ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਮੈਂ ਡੰਨ ਭਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਪੋਟ ਡਾਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਭਏ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫੯॥
pot daar gur pooraa mili-aa ta-o naanak nirbha-ay. ||4||1||159||
O’ Nanak, when I met the Perfect Guru, I threw away that load of Maya and became fearless. ||4||1||159||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਪੋਟਲੀ ਸੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫੯॥

ਭਾਵਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ਰੀ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ॥
bhaavan ti-aagi-o ree ti-aagi-o.
O’ my sister, I have renounced the quest for pleasures and the fear of sorrows.
ਹੇ ਭੈਣ!(ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਣ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਨ ਦਾ) ਸੰਕਲਪ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ॥
ti-aagi-o mai gur mil ti-aagi-o.
This renouncement took place as a grace of the Guru when I surrendered myself completely.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ। ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਰਸ ਮਾਨਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੈ ਆਗਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab sukh aanand mangal ras maan gobindai aagi-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
All peace, joy, happiness and pleasures have come since I surrendered to the will of God. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ (ਮਿੱਠੀ) ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਹਨ, ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮੰਗਲ ਹੀ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
