ਚਰਨ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਧਾਵਉ ॥੧॥

and with my feet, I walk on the Path to join the holy congregation.
ਤੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ
ਭਲੋ ਸਮੋ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥
bhalo samo simran kee baree-aa.
Human birth is the only good opportunity to remember God,
ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਅਵਸਰ ਹੈ,
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
simrat naam bhai paar utree-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By meditating on God’s Name, we cross over the terrifying world-ocean of vices.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ) ਡਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖੁ ॥
naytar santan kaa darsan paykh.
With your eyes, behold the Blessed Vision of the Saints,
ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥੨॥
parabh avinaasee man meh laykh. ||2||
and inscribe the Name of immortal God in your mind.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਕਾਰ ਲੈ।
ਸੁਣਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
sun keertan saaDh peh jaa-ay.
(O’ my friend) listen to the praises of God in the holy congregation,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟਾਇ ॥੩॥
janam maran kee taraas mitaa-ay. ||3||
and thus eradicate the fear of going into cycles of birth and death.
ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈ l
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
charan kamal thaakur ur Dhaar.
Enshrine God’s immaculate Name in your heart
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖ l
ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੫੧॥੧੨੦॥
dulabh dayh naanak nistaar. ||4||51||120||
O’ Nanak, this human body is extremely difficult to obtain. Ferry it across the worldly-ocean of vices by meditating on God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ l
ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ga-orhee mehlaa 5.
Raag Gauree, by the Fifth Guru:
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
jaa ka-o apnee kirpaa Dhaarai.
Those, upon whom God Himself showers His Mercy,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
so jan rasnaa naam uchaaray. ||1||
that person recites God’s Name with love and devotion.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
har bisrat sahsaa dukh bi-aapai.
Forgetting God, dread and sorrow shall overtake you.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਇਆਂ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ) ਸਹਮ-ਦੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
simrat naam bharam bha-o bhaagai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
But meditating on God’s Name, doubt and fear shall depart.
(ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨੱਠ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸੁਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
har keertan sunai har keertan gaavai.
That person who hears and sings the praises of God,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਦੂਖੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
tis jan dookh nikat nahee aavai. ||2||
-no pain or sorrow comes near that person.
(ਕੋਈ) ਦੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁੱਕਦਾ
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਰਤ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
har kee tahal karat jan sohai.
By serving God’s creation and meditating on Him with loving devotion, the person’s life becomes beautiful.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਪੋਹੈ ॥੩॥
taa ka-o maa-i-aa agan na pohai. ||3||
Because the fire of Maya (worldly desires) does not touch him.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਹ ਸਕਦੀ l
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਜੀਅਲੇ ਅਵਰਿ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੪॥੫੨॥੧੨੧॥
man tan mukh har naam da-i-aal. nanak tajee-alay avar janjaal. ||4||52||121||
O’ Nanak, the Name of Merciful God dwells within the mind and body of that person, who has renounced all worldly entanglements.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ l

Raag Gauree, by the Fifth Guru:
ਛਾਡਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
chhaad si-aanap baho chaturaa-ee.
Renounce your cleverness, and your cunning tricks.
ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਤੇ ਚਤੁਰ ਹੈਂ l
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥੧॥
gur pooray kee tayk tikaa-ee. ||1||
Seek the Support of the Perfect Guru.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ l
ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
dukh binsay sukh har gun gaa-ay.
Your pain shall depart, you shall sing the glorious praises of God in peace.
ਤੇਰੇ ਗ਼ਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur pooraa bhayti-aa liv laa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Meeting the Perfect Guru, let yourself be absorbed in God’s Love.
ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ l
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ॥
har kaa naam dee-o gur mantar.
The Guru has given me the Mantra of God’s Name (divine word).
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਿਟੇ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ਉਤਰੀ ਚਿੰਤ ॥੨॥
mitay visooray utree chint. ||2||
all my worries are forgotten, and my anxiety is gone.
ਮੇਰੇ ਫਿਕਰ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਲਹਿ ਗਈ ਹੈ
ਅਨਦ ਭਏ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
anad bha-ay gur milat kirpaal.
Meeting with the Merciful Guru, I am in ecstasy.
ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਾਟੇ ਜਮ ਜਾਲ ॥੩॥
kar kirpaa kaatay jam jaal. ||3||
Showering His Mercy, He has cut away the noose of Death.
ਆਪਣੀ ਮਇਆ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੂਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kaho naanak gur pooraa paa-i-aa.
Nanak says the one who has obtained the guidance of the perfect Guru,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫੩॥੧੨੨॥
taa tay bahur na bi-aapai maa-i-aa. ||4||53||122||
Maya (the worldly attachment) doesn’t afflict that person again.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ
ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ga-orhee mehlaa 5.
Raag Gauree, by the Fifth Guru:
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਆਪਿ ॥
raakh lee-aa gur poorai aap.
The Perfect Guru Himself has saved me.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥੧॥
manmukh ka-o laago santaap. ||1||
The self-willed manmukh is afflicted with calamity.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਖੜੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਜਪਿ ਮੀਤ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥
guroo guroo jap meet hamaaray.
O’ my friends, always remember Guru’s word.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ! ਸਦਾ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖੋ,
ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mukh oojal hoveh darbaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By doing so you would obtain honor in God’s court.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆਂ) ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਣਗੇ l
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ॥
gur kay charan hirdai vasaa-ay.
By enshrining the Guru’s teachings in the mind,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
ਦੁਖ ਦੁਸਮਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਹਤੈ ਬਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
dukh dusman tayree hatai balaa-ay. ||2||
-all your sorrows, enemies and calamities will be destroyed.
ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਵੈਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਮਲੀਆਮੇਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
gur kaa sabad tayrai sang sahaa-ee.
The word of the Guru’s Shabad is your companion and helper.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ (ਸਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ।
ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਸਗਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਭਾਈ ॥੩॥
da-i-aal bha-ay saglay jee-a bhaa-ee. ||3||
all beings shall be kind to you.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋਣਗੇ,
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਜਬ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀ ॥
gur poorai jab kirpaa karee.
When the Perfect Guru granted His Grace,
ਜਦੋਂ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਰੀ ॥੪॥੫੪॥੧੨੩॥
bhanat naanak mayree pooree paree. ||4||54||123||
Nanak says, then all my efforts became fruitful.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਘਾਲ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ

ਅਨਿਕ ਰਸਾ ਖਾਏ ਜੈਸੇ ਢੋਰ ॥
anik rasaa khaa-ay jaisay dhor.
Forgetting God, the person who remains involved in enjoying delicious feast is eating like a beast.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਸ਼ੂ (ਪੱਠਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਢਿੱਡ ਭਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮੋਹ ਕੀ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਚੋਰ ॥੧॥
moh kee jayvree baaDhi-o chor. ||1||
His life is like that of a thief, who is bound with the chain of worldly attachments.
ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਰਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਚੌਰ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾ ਨਰੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਰਤਕ ਦੇਹ ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ॥
mirtak dayh saaDhsang bihoonaa.
The one who remains without the company of saints, is spiritually dead and his body is like a corpse.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਜੋਨੀ ਦੁਖ ਖੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aavat jaat jonee dukh kheenaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
That person’s soul is continuously weakened, because of the pain and suffering from the repeated birth and death,
ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਹਿਰਾਇਆ ॥
anik bastar sundar pehraa-i-aa.
He wears all sorts of beautiful robes,
(ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈl
ਜਿਉ ਡਰਨਾ ਖੇਤ ਮਾਹਿ ਡਰਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
ji-o darnaa khayt maahi daraa-i-aa. ||2||
but he still looks like scare-crow in the field, frightening away the birds.
ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਉਹ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪੈਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਨਵਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਰਾਣ ਲਈ ਬਨਾਉਟੀ ਰਾਖਾ ਖੜਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਗਲ ਸਰੀਰ ਆਵਤ ਸਭ ਕਾਮ ॥
sagal sareer aavat sabh kaam.
The bodies of all the animals can be put to some use,
(ਹੋਰ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨ ਕਿਸੇ) ਕੰਮ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਨਿਹਫਲ ਮਾਨੁਖੁ ਜਪੈ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਮ ॥੩॥
nihfal maanukh japai nahee naam. ||3||
but of no use is the coming of a person in the world, who does not meditate on God’s Name.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ, ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
kaho nanak jaa ka-o bha-ay da-i-aalaa.
Nanak says, on whom God becomes Merciful,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਜਹਿ ਗੋੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੫੫॥੧੨੪॥
saaDh sang mil bhaje gopala. ||4||55||124||
that person in the holy congregation, remembers God with love and devotion.
ਉਹ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
