ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਡੂਬਤ ਪਾਹਨ ਤਰੇ ॥੩॥
jis simrat doobat paahan taray. ||3||
By meditating whom even the stone hearted persons swim across the worldly ocean of vices. ||3||
ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਪੱਥਰ-ਦਿਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਠੋਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,) ॥੩॥
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥
sant sabhaa ka-o sadaa jaikaar.
Bow to the holy congregation.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਉ,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
har har naam jan paraan aDhaar.
God’s Name is the support of the life breaths of the devotees.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾਂ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ) ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ l,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਣੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
kaho naanak mayree sunee ardaas.
Nanak says, God has listened to my prayer,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ) ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ,
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੯੦॥
sant parsaad mo ka-o naam nivaas. ||4||21||90||
and through the Guru’s grace, has enshrined Naam in my heart. ||4||21||90||
ਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ) ॥੪॥੨੧॥੯੦॥
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Guru:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥
satgur darsan agan nivaaree.
By beholding the sight and following the teachings of the true Guru, one’s fire of worldly desires is quenched.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ) ਬੁਝਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
satgur bhaytat ha-umai maaree.
By meeting and following the teachings of the True Guru, one kills ego.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਡੋਲੈ ॥
satgur sang naahee man dolai.
In the Company of the true Guru, the mind does not waver,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲੈ ॥੧॥
amrit banee gurmukh bolai. ||1||
The Guru’s follower utters the ambrosial words of God’s praises. ||1||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਾ ਸਚ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
sabh jag saachaa jaa sach meh raatay.
When the mind is imbued with the love of the eternal God, then the entire world seems as the embodiment of the eternal God Himself.
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ,ਤਦੋਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸੀਤਲ ਸਾਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
seetal saat gur tay parabh jaatay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
When God is realized through the Guru, the mind becomes cool and tranquil. ||1||Pause||
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਠੰਡਾ-ਠਾਰ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
sant parsaad japai har naa-o.
By the Grace of the Saints, one chants God’s Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਉ ॥
sant parsaad har keertan gaa-o.
By the Grace of the Saints, one sings the Praises of God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਖ ਮਿਟੇ ॥
sant parsaad sagal dukh mitay.
By the Grace of the Saints, all sorrows are erased.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੇ ॥੨॥
sant parsaad banDhan tay chhutay. ||2||
By the Grace of the Saints, one is released from bondage of Maya. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਿਟੇ ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮ ॥
sant kirpaa tay mitay moh bharam.
By the mercy of the Saints, emotional attachment and doubt are removed.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਣ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧ ਰੇਣ ਮਜਨ ਸਭਿ ਧਰਮ ॥
saaDh rayn majan sabh Dharam.
Following the Guru’s teachings encompasses the merit of all religious deeds.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜੀ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ (ਸਾਰ) ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
saaDh kirpaal da-i-aal govind.
When the saint-Guru becomes kind on anyone then God also shows mercy.
ਜਦ ਸੰਤ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਦਇਆਲੂ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਭੀ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧਾ ਮਹਿ ਇਹ ਹਮਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੩॥
saaDhaa meh ih hamree jind. ||3||
My life is dedicated to the saint (Guru). ||3||
ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਭੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥
kirpaa niDh kirpaal Dhi-aava-o.
When I meditate on the treasure of mercy, the kind God,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਤਾ ਬੈਠਣੁ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
saaDhsang taa baithan paava-o.
then alone, I get the opportunity to associate with the holy congregation.
ਤਦੋਂ ਸਾਧ-ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਇਆ ॥
mohi nirgun ka-o parabh keenee da-i-aa.
God showed mercy on me the one without any virtues
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਦਇਆ ਕੀਤੀ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੯੧॥
saaDhsang naanak naam la-i-aa. ||4||22||91||
and O’ Nanak, I meditated on Naam in the holy congregation. ||4||22||91||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੯੧॥
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Guru:
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਭਗਵੰਤੁ ॥
saaDhsang japi-o bhagvant.
Those who have meditated on God’s Name in the company of saint-Guru,
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤੁ ॥
kayval naam dee-o gur mant.
to them alone the Guru has blessed the mantra of the immaculate Naam.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੰਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ l
ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ॥
taj abhimaan bha-ay nirvair.
Shedding their ego, they have become free of enmity towards anyone.
ਉਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ l
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੈਰ ॥੧॥
aath pahar poojahu gur pair. ||1||
Twenty-four hours a day, worship at the Guru’s Feet (follow the Guru’s teachings at all times). ||1||
ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਪੂਜੋ ॥੧॥
ਅਬ ਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਦੁਸਟ ਬਿਗਾਨੀ ॥
ab mat binsee dusat bigaanee.
My evil and ignorant sense has left me,
ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਤੇ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ,
ਜਬ ਤੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jab tay suni-aa har jas kaanee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
since the time I have listened the praise of God with my own ears. ||1||Pause||
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮੈਂ ਕੰਨੀਂ ਸੁਣੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਹਜ ਸੂਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
sahj sookh aanand niDhaan.
God, the treasure of intuitive peace and bliss,
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ, ਸੁਖ ਅਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ-
ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਇ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥
raakhanhaar rakh lay-ay nidaan.
has ultimately saved them.
ਰੱਖਣਹਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ (ਸਦਾ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ॥
dookh darad binsay bhai bharam.
All their sorrows, pains, fears, and doubts have been destroyed.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ, ਦਰਦ, ਡਰ, ਵਹਿਮ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਮ ॥੨॥
aavan jaan rakhay kar karam. ||2||
Mercifully He saves them from the cycles of birth and death||2||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ (ਭੀ) ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪੇਖੈ ਬੋਲੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
paykhai bolai sunai sabh aap.
By pervading all He Himself beholds, speaks and listens all.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਪ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਨ ਜਾਪਿ ॥
sadaa sang taa ka-o man jaap.
O my mind, meditate on the One who is always with you.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਹੈ, ਉਸਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ।
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
sant parsaad bha-i-o pargaas.
By the saint-Guru’s grace, in whose mind the divine light has manifested,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਏਕੈ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
poor rahay aykai guntaas. ||3||
he beholds God, treasure of virtues, pervading everywhere. ||3||
ਉਸਨੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਹਤ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਣਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥
kahat pavitar sunat puneet.
Pure are those who recite, and immaculate are those who listen,
ਪਾਵਨ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤ ॥
gun govind gaavahi nit neet.
and sing the Glorious Praises of God day after day.
ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੋਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
kaho naanak jaa ka-o hohu kirpaal.
Nanak says, O’ God, on whom You become kind,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਪੂਰਨ ਘਾਲ ॥੪॥੨੩॥੯੨॥
tis jan kee sabh pooran ghaal. ||4||23||92||
all his efforts become successful. ||4||23||92||
ਉਸਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਇਹ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੩॥੯੨॥

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਿ ਬੋਲਾਵੈ ਰਾਮੁ ॥
banDhan torh bolaavai raam.
The Guru breaks our bonds of Maya and inspires us to chant God’s Name.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
man meh laagai saach Dhi-aan.
The mind gets attuned to the eternal God,
ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਅਟੱਲ ਸੁਰਤ ਬੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਟਹਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ॥
miteh kalays sukhee ho-ay rahee-ai.
anguish is eradicated and one dwells in peace.
ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਐਸਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੧॥
aisaa daataa satgur kahee-ai. ||1||
The true Guru is called such a benefactor. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥
so sukh-daata je naam japaavai.
He alone is the peace giving true Guru who inspires us meditate on Naam,
ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirpaa tis sang milaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and showing mercy unites us with God. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥
jis ho-ay da-i-aal tis aap milaavai.
God unites that person with the Guru unto whom He shows His kindness.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ (ਹੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
sarab niDhaan guroo tay paavai.
He then receives Naam, the treasures for spiritual growth, from the Guru.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਫਿਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
aap ti-aag mitai aavan jaanaa.
By shedding self-conceit and ego, his cycle of birth and death comes to an end,
ਉਹ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥੨॥
saaDh kai sang paarbarahm pachhaanaa. ||2||
and in the company of the saint-Guru, he realizes the supreme God. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
jan oopar parabh bha-ay da-i-aal.
For the devotee on whom God has become merciful.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰ-ਸਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
