ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
paraanee jaanai ih tan mayraa.
The mortal claims this body as his own.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਉਆਹੂ ਲਪਟੇਰਾ ॥
bahur bahur u-aahoo laptayraa.
Again and again, he clings to it.
ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਚੰਬੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਕਾ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
putar kaltar girsat kaa faasaa.
Entangled with his children, wife and household affairs,
ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦਾ ਫਾਹਾ (ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ,
ਹੋਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
hon na paa-ee-ai raam kay daasaa. ||1||
he cannot be the devotee of God. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੀਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
kavan so biDh jit raam gun gaa-ay.
What is the way by which one can start singing the praises of God?
ਉਹ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਤਰੈ ਇਹ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kavan so mat jit tarai ih maa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
What is that teaching following which one can be saved from the bonds of Maya? ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਸਿੱਖ-ਮਤਿ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋ ਭਲਾਈ ਸੋ ਬੁਰਾ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
jo bhalaa-ee so buraa jaanai.
The deed which is for his own good, he thinks that as evil.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਭਲਾਈ (ਦਾ) ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੈੜਾ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋ ਬਿਖੈ ਸਮਾਨੈ ॥
saach kahai so bikhai samaanai.
If someone tells him the truth, he looks upon that as poison.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਆਖੇ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਵਰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਾਣੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੀਤ ਅਰੁ ਹਾਰ ॥
jaanai naahee jeet ar haar.
He does not even understand that which deed would make him win the game of life and which would make him lose.
ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਜੀਵਨ-ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੇਹੜਾ ਹਾਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ।
ਇਹੁ ਵਲੇਵਾ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥੨॥
ih valayvaa saakat sansaar. ||2||
This is the way of life in the world of the faithless cynics. ||2||
ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਵਰਤਣ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਹਲਾਹਲ ਸੋ ਪੀਵੈ ਬਉਰਾ ॥
jo halaahal so peevai ba-uraa.
The fool drinks the deadly poison of Maya,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ-ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ) ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਉਰਾ ॥
amrit naam jaanai kar ka-uraa.
while he believes the ambrosial Naam to be bitter.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੌੜਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਨੇਰਿ ॥
saaDhsang kai naahee nayr.
He doesn’t even go near the congregation of the saints;
(ਮਾਇਆ-ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ।
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਾ ਫੇਰਿ ॥੩॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh bharmataa fayr. ||3||
and wanders lost through millions of births. ||3||
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਏਕੈ ਜਾਲਿ ਫਹਾਏ ਪੰਖੀ ॥
aykai jaal fahaa-ay pankhee.
Like the birds trapped in a net, God has trapped human beings in the Maya.
ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀ ਇਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਫਸਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਭੋਗ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ॥
ras ras bhog karahi baho rangee.
immersed in the worldly pleasures, they frolic in so many ways.
ਸੁਆਦ ਲਾ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
kaho naanak jis bha-ay kirpaal.
Nanak says, the one on whom God has become kind,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਟੇ ਜਾਲ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੮੨॥
gur poorai taa kay kaatay jaal. ||4||13||82||
the perfect Guru has cut off his bonds of worldly entrapments. ||4||13||82||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਫਾਹੇ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੮੨॥
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ga-orhee gu-aarayree mehlaa 5.
Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Guru:
ਤਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
ta-o kirpaa tay maarag paa-ee-ai.
O’ God, by Your grace, we realize the righteous way of living
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ) ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
parabh kirpaa tay naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai.
By God’s Grace, we meditate on Naam .
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੁਟੈ ॥
parabh kirpaa tay banDhan chhutai.
By God’s Grace, we are released from the bonds of Maya.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਾਲ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੁਟੈ ॥੧॥
ta-o kirpaa tay ha-umai tutai. ||1||
By Your Grace, egotism is eradicated. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਡੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤੁਮ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਉ ਲਾਗਹ ਸੇਵ ॥
tum laavhu ta-o laagah sayv.
O’ God, if You bless us, only then we engage in Your devotional worship.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਲਾਵੇ, ਕੇਵਲ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਹਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham tay kachhoo na hovai dayv. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my Enlightener, on our own we can do nothing. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਥੋਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ) ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਗਾਵਾ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
tuDh bhaavai taa gaavaa banee.
O’ God, if it pleases You, only then I can sing hymns of Your praises.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
tuDh bhaavai taa sach vakhaanee.
If it pleases You, only then I can recite the eternal Naam.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਇਆ ॥
tuDh bhaavai taa satgur ma-i-aa.
Only when it pleases You, we receive the grace of the true Guru.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਇਆ ॥੨॥
sarab sukhaa parabh tayree da-i-aa. ||2||
O’ God, all peace comes by Your Kindness . ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
jo tuDh bhaavai so nirmal karmaa.
O’ God, whatever pleases You, that is the immaculate deed.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਏ ਉਹੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਧਰਮਾ ॥
jo tuDh bhaavai so sach Dharmaa.
Whatever pleases You is the true faith.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਏ ਉਹੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਣ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
sarab niDhaan gun tum hee paas.
All the treasures and all the virtues are with You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੩॥
tooN saahib sayvak ardaas. ||3||
You are my Master, and Your servant’s supplication is only before You. ||3||
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
man tan nirmal ho-ay har rang.
My body and mind may become immaculate and pure in Your love.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ) ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਪਾਵਉ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ॥
sarab sukhaa paava-o satsang.
I may find all pleasures in the congregation of the saintly persons.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਉਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਰਹੈ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
naam tayrai rahai man raataa.
My mind may always remain imbued with Your love.
ਮੇਰੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਹੇ।
ਇਹੁ ਕਲਿਆਣੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੮੩॥
ih kali-aan naanak kar jaataa. ||4||14||83||
Nanak deems this as the supreme bliss. ||4||14||83||
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮ-ਅਨੰਦ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।॥੪॥੧੪॥੮੩॥
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ga-orhee gu-aarayree mehlaa 5.
Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Guru:
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਜੇਤੇ ਤੈ ਚਾਖੇ ॥
aan rasaa jaytay tai chaakhay.
(O’ my tongue), all the delicacies, other than Naam, which you are tasting,
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਭ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਰਸ ਤੂੰ ਚੱਖਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਲਾਥੇ ॥
nimakh na tarisnaa tayree laathay.
have not satiated your desires even for a moment.
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਤੇਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਸਮੇ ਤਕ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕਾ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਖਹਿ ਸਾਦੁ ॥
har ras kaa tooN chaakhahi saad.
But if you taste the elixir of God’s Name,
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖੇਂ,
ਚਾਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਹਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥੧॥
chaakhat ho-ay raheh bismaad. ||1||
upon tasting it, you shall be wonderstruck and amazed. ||1||
ਚੱਖਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ) ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਂ ॥੧॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਪੀਉ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
amrit rasnaa pee-o pi-aaree.
O dear beloved tongue, drink in the ambrosial nectar of Naam.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜੀਭ! ਤੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪੀ।
ਇਹ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ih ras raatee ho-ay tariptaaree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Imbued with this sublime essence, you shall be satisfied. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਭ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਹੋਰ ਰਸਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਜਿਹਵੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
hay jihvay tooN raam gun gaa-o.
O’ my tongue, sing the glorious praises of God.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਜੀਭ! ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ।
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਉ ॥
nimakh nimakh har har har Dhi-aa-o.
Meditate on God at each and every instant.
ਪਲ ਪਲ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ।
ਆਨ ਨ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
aan na sunee-ai katahooN jaa-ee-ai.
Don’t listen anything except Naam and don’t go anywhere except the holy congregation.
ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਨ ਸੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਨ ਜਾ।
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
saaDhsangat vadbhaagee paa-ee-ai. ||2||
But the company of saints is attained only by great good fortune. ||2||
(ਪਰ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਿਹਵੇ ਆਰਾਧਿ ॥
aath pahar jihvay aaraaDh.
O’ my tongue, always lovingly meditate on,
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਜੀਭ! ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਆਗਾਧਿ ॥

the Unfathomable, Supreme Master-God.
ਅਥਾਹ (ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ) ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦਾ
ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ॥
eehaa oohaa sadaa suhaylee.
Here and hereafter, you shall be happy forever.
ਏਥੇ ਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਰਸਨ ਅਮੋਲੀ ॥੩॥
har gun gaavat rasan amolee. ||3||
O’ my tongue, by chanting God’s virtues, you will become invaluable. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਜੀਭ ਬੜੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਬਨਸਪਤਿ ਮਉਲੀ ਫਲ ਫੁਲ ਪੇਡੇ ॥
banaspat ma-ulee fal ful payday.
One may see all kinds of vegetation, fruits, and flowers in bloom.
(ਇਹ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੀ) ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਖਿੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੁੱਲ ਫਲ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਇਹ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੇ ॥
ih ras raatee bahur na chhoday.
But imbued with this nectar of Naam, one shall never leave it for any other worldly relish.
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਬਾਹਰ-ਦਿੱਸਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨੂੰ) ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ
ਆਨ ਨ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਲਾਈ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੮੪॥
aan na ras kas lavai na laa-ee.kaho naanak gur bha-ay hai sahaa-ee. ||4||15||84||
Nanak says, when the Guru becomes one’s helper and shows him the relish of God’s Name, then one doesn’t go near any other worldly relish.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ) ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸਮ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਰਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦੀ) ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੮੪॥
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Guru:
ਮਨੁ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਜੀ ਬਾਰਿ ॥
man mandar tan saajee baar.
The mind is like a temple (house of God), and the body is like a fence built around it.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਘਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਘਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਲਈ ਵਾੜ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
