ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਕੈ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਤੋਲੀ ॥
har har nikat vase sab jag ke aprampar purakh atooli
God who is all pervading, limitless and whose virtues can not be estimated, dwells close to the entire world.
ਉਹ ਹਰੀ, ਜੋ ਪਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ-ਸਮੂਹ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਕੀਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਵੇਚਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਮੋਲੀ ॥੩॥
har har pargat kee-o gur poorai sir vaychi-o gur peh molee. ||3||
The perfect Guru has revealed God to me, so I have completely surrendered myself to the Guru, as if I have sold my head to the Guru for a price.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਗਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸ ਮੁੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਵੇਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਡੋਲੀ ॥
har jee antar baahar tum sarnaagat tum vad purakh vadolee.
O’ God, You are permeating in all beings both inside and out, I have come to Your refuge, You are the highest of the high.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ( ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗੁਰ ਵੇਚੋਲੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫॥੫੩॥
jan naanak an-din har gun gaavai mil satgur gur vaycholee. ||4||1||15||53||
Meeting the True Guru, the Divine mediator, Nanak always sings the Praises of God. ||4||1||15||53||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ-ਵਿਚੋਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥
jagjeevan aprampar su-aamee jagdeesur purakh biDhaatay.
O’ God, the life of the world, O’ infinite God and Master, O’ Master of the Universe, all pervading Creator,
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਈਸ਼ਵਰ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ,
ਜਿਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਹਮ ਜਾਤੇ ॥੧॥
jit maarag tum parayrhu su-aamee tit maarag ham jaatay. ||1||
whichever way You direct us, that is the way we follow.
ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਜਿਸ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ (ਤੁਰਨ ਲਈ) ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ l
ਰਾਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
raam mayraa man har saytee raatay.
O’ God, my mind is imbued with Your love.
ਹੇ ਰਾਮ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satsangat mil raam ras paa-i-aa har raamai naam samaatay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Joining the holy Congregation, I have obtained the sublime essence of God’s love, and I am absorbed in His Name.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਗਿ ਅਵਖਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਤੇ ॥
har har naam har har jag avkhaDh har har naam har saatay.
God’s Name is the cure for all the sorrows, and provider of peace in the world.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਸਭ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦੀ) ਦਵਾਈ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੋਖ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਤੇ ॥੨॥
tin kay paap dokh sabh binsay jo gurmat raam ras khaatay. ||2||
Following Guru’s teachings, those who partake the elixir of God’s Name, all their sins and sufferings are eliminated.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਚੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਐਬ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਲਿਖੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਤੇ ॥
jin ka-o likhat likhay Dhur mastak tay gur santokh sar naatay.
Those who have such pre-ordained destiny, faithfully follow the Guru’s guidance and live a contented life, as if they bathe in the Guru’s pool of contentment.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਮੁਢ ਦੀ-ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਐਸੀ ਲਿਖਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟਤਾ ਦੇ ਤਾਲਾਬ ਅੰਦਰ ਨ੍ਹਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਈ ਸਭ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥੩॥
durmat mail ga-ee sabh tin kee jo raam naam rang raatay. ||3||
The filth of evil-mindedness is totally washed away, from those who are imbued with the Love of God’s Name.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਰਾਮ ਤੁਮ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੁਮ ਜੇਵਡ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦਾਤੇ ॥
raam tum aapay aap aap parabh thaakur tum jayvad avar na daatay.
O’ God, You Yourself are Your Own Master. O’ God there is no greater benefactor than You.
ਹੇ ਰਾਮ! ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਜੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੬॥੫੪॥
jan naanak naam la-ay taaN jeevai har japee-ai har kirpaa tay. ||4||2||16||54||
Nanak remains spiritually alive only if he meditates on Naam, the meditation on God’s Name can be done by His Grace alone.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇਵਲ ਸਾਈਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੈਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

karahu kirpaa jagjeevan daatay mayraa man har saytee raachay.
O’ Life of the World, O Great Giver, please bestow mercy on me, so that my mind may remain attuned to You.
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ! ਹੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹੇ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬਚਨੁ ਦੀਓ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਚੇ ॥੧॥
satgur bachan dee-o at nirmal jap har har har man maachay. ||1||
The True Guru has bestowed the most immaculate teachings, that by meditating on God’s name, my mind goes into ecstasy.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l
ਰਾਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਬੇਧਿ ਲੀਓ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ॥
raam mayraa man tan bayDh lee-o har saachay.
O’ God, bestowing mercy, You have united me with Naam as if my body and mind has been pierced with Your love.
ਹੇ ਰਾਮ! ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਨ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਹ ਕਾਲ ਕੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਬਾਚੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jih kaal kai mukh jagat sabh garsi-aa gur satgur kai bachan har ham baachay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The entire world is in the grip of the fear ofdeath, I have been saved from it by following the true Guru’s teachings.||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨਿਗਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ l
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂੜ ਨਰ ਕਾਚੇ ॥
jin ka-o pareet naahee har saytee tay saakat moorh nar kaachay.
Those foolish, faithless cynics who do not have any love for God are spiritually immature.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜਨਮੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਪਾਚੇ ॥੨॥
tin ka-o janam maran at bhaaree vich vistaa mar mar paachay. ||2||
They suffer the extreme agony in the cycles of birth and death. They spiritually die over and over again, and rot away in the filth of vices.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਤੁਮ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੀਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਜਾਚੇ ॥
tum da-i-aal saran partipaalak mo ka-o deejai daan har ham jaachay.
O’ God, You are the merciful protector of those who seek Your refuge. I beg You, to please bless me with the gift of Your Name.
ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼।
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਹਮ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਚੇ ॥੩॥
har kay daas daas ham keejai man nirat karay kar naachay. ||3||
Make me Your most humble servant so that my mind may dance in happiness of Your Love.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖ ਤਾਂ ਜੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਚ ਕਰੇ l
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਹ ਵਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਹਹਿ ਤਾ ਚੇ ॥
aapay saah vaday parabh su-aamee ham vanjaaray heh taa chay.
God Himself is the Great Banker and Master. I am His petty trader of Naam
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਨ ਮਾਲਕ ਹਨ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਸਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਸਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੭॥੫੫॥
mayraa man tan jee-o raas sabh tayree jan nanak kay saah parabh saachay. ||4||3||17||55||
O’ the eternal God of Nanak. My mind, body and soul are all the wealth blessed by You.||4||3||17||55||

tum da-i-aal sarab dukh bhanjan ik bin-o sunhu day kaanay.
O’ God, You are the merciful destroyer of all pain, Please listen to my one prayer attentively.
ਹੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਇਕ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ।
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੇ ॥੧॥
jis tay tum har jaanay su-aamee so satgur mayl mayraa paraanay. ||1||
Please unite me with the True Guru, my very life; through whose mercy, You are realized. ||1||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ (ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਰਾਮ ਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ
raam ham satgur paarbarahm kar maanay.
O’ God, I acknowledge the True Guru as the embodiment of Supreme God.
ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਰਾਮ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਮ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਸੁਧ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਜਾਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham moorh mugaDh asuDh mat hotay gur satgur kai bachan har ham jaanay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I was foolish and ignorant person with polluted intellect, but through the the Guru’teachings, I have realized God. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਮਹਾਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਸਾਂ, ਮੈਲੀ ਮੱਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ (ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ) ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ
ਜਿਤਨੇ ਰਸ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਹਮ ਦੇਖੇ ਸਭ ਤਿਤਨੇ ਫੀਕ ਫੀਕਾਨੇ ॥
jitnay ras an ras ham daykhay sabh titnay feek feekaanay.
All the worldly pleasures and enjoyments which I have seen – I have found them all to be bland and insipid.
ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ (ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ) ਰਸ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਹਨ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਹਨ।
