ਇਸੁ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
is kalijug meh karam Dharam na ko-ee.
In this age (of evil), no rituals or deeds of righteousness are successful in achieving freedom from vices.
ਇਸ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੁਕਰਮ-ਦਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ) ਕੋਈ ਕਰਮ-ਧਰਮ ਛੁਡਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਲੀ ਕਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਚੰਡਾਲ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
kalee kaa janam chandaal kai ghar ho-ee.
because in this age, falsehood and evil are so predominant that it feels as if this evil age is born in the hearts of evildoers.
ਕੁਕਰਮੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੩੦॥
naanak naam binaa ko mukat na ho-ee. ||4||10||30||
Therefore, O’ Nanak, nobody achieves freedom from vices without meditating on God’s Naam.||4||10||30||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ
ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ॥
ga-orhee mehlaa 3 gu-aarayree.
Raag Gauree, Third Guru, Gwaarayree:
ਸਚਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥
sachaa amar sachaa paatisaahu.
The eternal God is imperishable and so are his commands.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜਗਤ ਦਾ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥
man saachai raatay har vayparvaahu.
Those who are in love with the carefree God from the core of their heart,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਹੁ ॥੧॥
sachai mahal sach naam lsamaahu. ||1||
dwell in God’s presence and remain always attuned to His Name.||1||
ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
sun man mayray sabad veechaar.
O my mind, listen and reflect on the Guri’s word.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਰੱਖ।
ਰਾਮ ਜਪਹੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਉਤਰਹੁ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam japahu bhavjal utarahu paar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Meditate on God’s Name and swim across the worldly ocean of vices. |1||Pause|
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾ।
ਭਰਮੇ ਆਵੈ ਭਰਮੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
bharmay aavai bharmay jaa-ay.
The mortal remains entangled in the cycles of birth and death by remaining deluded in the love of Maya.
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਨਮਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
ih jag janmi-aa doojai bhaa-ay.
It is because of duality (the love for the worldly riches) that this world is born.
ਇਹ ਜਹਾਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
manmukh na chaytai aavai jaa-ay. ||2||
Being self-conceited, the human being does not remember God; therefore remains in the cycles of birth and death. ||2||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਤੇ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
aap bhulaa ke parabh aap bhulaa-i-aa.
Has the human being gone astray on his own, or has he been strayed by God?
ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਇਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
ih jee-o vidaanee chaakree laa-i-aa.
Because of his love for worldly riches, the mortal is enjoined to the service of the Maya.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਬਿਗਾਨੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
mahaa dukh khatay birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa. ||3||
From it, he earns only terrible agony and loses life in vain. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਮਹਾਨ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
kirpaa kar satguroo milaa-ay.
Granting His Grace, when God leads someone to meet the True Guru.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
ayko naam chaytay vichahu bharam chukaa-ay.
Then dispelling all doubts from within, he meditates on the One God.
ਉਹ ਤਦ,ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇ ਨਾਉ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੩੧॥
naanak naam japay naa-o na-o niDh paa-ay. ||4||11||31||
O’ Nanak, he meditates on God’s Name and receives the wealth of Naam which is as valuable as all the treasures of the world. ||4||11||31||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹੈ
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
ga-orhee gu-aarayree mehlaa 3.
Raag Gauree Gwaarayree, Third Gurul:
ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਪੂਛਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
jinaa gurmukh Dhi-aa-i-aa tin poochha-o jaa-ay.
When I go and ask those Guru’s followers the way to meditate on God’s Name,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ (ਜਦੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ) ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥
gur sayvaa tay man patee-aa-ay.
they tell me that by following the Guru’s teachings, one’s mind is convinced of the benefits of meditating on Naam.
ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ) ਪਤੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
say Dhanvant har naam kamaa-ay.
Those who earn the wealth of Naam are truly wealthy.
ਜੋ ਰਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਖਟਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਮੀਰ ਉਹ ਹਨl
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
pooray gur tay sojhee paa-ay. ||1||
However, this understanding is only obtained from the perfect Guru. ||1||
ਇਹ ਅਕਲ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
har har naam japahu mayray bhaa-ee.
O’ my brothers, meditate on God’s Name with loving devotion.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਘਾਲ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh sayvaa har ghaal thaa-ay paa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God accepts the devotional worship which is performed through the Guru’s teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
aap pachhaanai man nirmal ho-ay.
The mind of that person becomes immaculate, who reflects on the self.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
jeevan mukat har paavai so-ay.
Such a person realizes God by obtaining freedom from the worldly bonds of Maya while still alive.
ਉਹ ਇਸ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਇ ॥
har gun gaavai mat ootam ho-ay.
The intellect of a person becomes sublime who sings the Praises of God.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
sehjay sahj samaavai so-ay. ||2||
He intuitively remains absorbed in a state of equipoise. ||2||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay na sayvi-aa jaa-ay.
Devotional worship of God cannot be performed while in love with worldly riches.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥
ha-umai maa-i-aa mahaa bikh khaa-ay.
Egotism and love of Maya is a toxic poison, it ruins a person’s spiritual life.
ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਵੱਡਾ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੁਤਿ ਕੁਟੰਬਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਮਾਇ ॥
put kutamb garihi mohi-aa maa-ay.
Maya deceives a person through emotional attachment to the children, family and home,
ਮਾਇਆ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਪਰਵਾਰ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਘਰ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਠੱਗਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
manmukh anDhaa aavai jaa-ay. ||3||
Blind in the love of Maya, self-willed person remains in the cycles of birth and death. ||3||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
har har naam dayvai jan so-ay.
The one unto whom God bestows His Name,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
an-din bhagat gur sabdee ho-ay.
Through the Guru’s word, He always performs the devotional worship of God.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤਾਬੇ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
gurmat virlaa boojhai ko-ay.
Only a rare person who understands this through the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੩੨॥
naanak naam samaavai so-ay. ||4||12||32||
O Nanak, such a person remains attuned to God’s Name. ||4||12||32|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੋਈ ॥
gur sayvaa jug chaaray ho-ee.
The tradition of serving the Guru and following his teachings has been carried out in all the four ages.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਚਲਿਆ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਚੌਹਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੈ)।
ਪੂਰਾ ਜਨੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
pooraa jan kaar kamaavai ko-ee.
Only a rare perfect person does this deed with full faith.
ਕੋਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ (ਪੂਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਖੁਟੁ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
akhut naam Dhan har tot na ho-ee.
The one who does this receives the inexhaustible wealth of Naam, which never falls short.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਮੁਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਧਨ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਘਾਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਐਥੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
aithai sadaa sukh dar sobhaa ho-ee. ||1||
Such a person always enjoys peace in this world, and receives honor in God’s Court. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ
ਏ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
ay man mayray bharam na keejai.
O my mind, you should not doubt on the Guru’s teachings.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਉਤੇ) ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh sayvaa amrit ras peejai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By performing devotional worship through the Guru’s teachings; you should partake the ambrosial nectar of God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਪੀਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਮਹਾਪੁਰਖ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥
satgur sayveh say mahaa purakh sansaaray.
Those who follow the teachings of the true Guru, are supreme in this world.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਮੰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਪਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਕੁਲ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥
aap uDhray kul sagal nistaaray.
They save themselves and redeem all their generations as well.
ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਆਪ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
har kaa naam rakheh ur Dhaaray.
They keep God’s Name enshrined in their hearts.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਭਉਜਲ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
naam ratay bha-ojal utreh paaray. ||2||
Imbued with Naam, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean of vices. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ॥
satgur sayveh sadaa man daasaa.
Those who follow the teachings of the true Guru, always remain humble in the service of others.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ (ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਦਾਸ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
ha-umai maar kamal pargaasaa.
They eradicate their ego and feel delighted as if their heart has blossomed like a lotus flower.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਕਮਲ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
anhad vaajai nij ghar vaasaa.
The continuous divine melody of God’s praises plays within them, and they remain attuned to God.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਵਾਜਾ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਘਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੩॥
naam ratay ghar maahi udaasaa. ||3||
Being imbued with Naam, they become detached from the love of worldly riches even while living in their household. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
satgur sayveh tin kee sachee banee.
Those who serve the true Guru by following his teachings; their words uttered in singing God’s praises become true.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਚਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
jug jug bhagtee aakh vakhaanee.
Throughout the ages, the devotees recite those words to others.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ (ਸਦਾ ਹੀ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਉਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਸੁਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਪਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਰੰਗਪਾਣੀ ॥
an-din jaapeh har saarangpaanee.
They always meditate on God with love and devotion.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਸਾਰੰਗ-ਪਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ।
