ਨਿਜ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਜਗਤੁ ਮੈ ਕੋ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
nij kar daykhi-o jagat mai ko kaahoo ko naahi.
I had looked upon the world as my own, but no one is a lasting support for anyone.
ਮੈਂ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, (ਪਰ ਇਥੇ ਤਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਭੀ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਆਪਣਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਥਿਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਰਾਖੋ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੪੮॥
naanak thir har bhagat hai tih raakho man maahi. ||48||
O’ Nanak, only the devotional worship of God is eternal, you should keep this in your mind. ||48||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ। ਇਸ (ਭਗਤੀ) ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਰੱਖ ॥੪੮॥
ਜਗ ਰਚਨਾ ਸਭ ਝੂਠ ਹੈ ਜਾਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥
jag rachnaa sabh jhooth hai jaan layho ray meet.
O’ my friend, understand that the entire worldly creation is perishable.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸੱਚੀ ਜਾਣ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਕਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾ ਰਹੈ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲੂ ਕੀ ਭੀਤਿ ॥੪੯॥
kahi naanak thir naa rahai ji-o baaloo kee bheet. ||49||
O’ Nanak, say, this worldly creation is not stable like a wall of sand. ||49||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ,ਰੇਤ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ ਵਾਂਗ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੪੯॥
ਰਾਮੁ ਗਇਓ ਰਾਵਨੁ ਗਇਓ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ॥
raam ga-i-o raavan ga-i-o jaa ka-o baho parvaar.
Even lord Rama passed away, and so did king Raavan who had a big family.
ਦੇਖ! ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ-ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ, ਰਾਵਨ ਭੀ ਚੱਲ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਥਿਰੁ ਕਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਜਿਉ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੫੦॥
kaho naanak thir kachh nahee supnay ji-o sansaar. ||50||
O’ Nanak say, nothing is everlasting and this entire world is transitory like a dream. ||50||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ- (ਇਥੇ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। (ਇਹ) ਜਗਤ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ ॥੫੦॥
ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਜੋ ਅਨਹੋਨੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
chintaa taa kee keejee-ai jo anhonee ho-ay.
One should worry only if some impossible thing happens.
ਕੇਵਲ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਕਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਂ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ।
ਇਹੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੫੧॥
ih maarag sansaar ko naanak thir nahee ko-ay. ||51||
O Nanak, this is the only way in the world that no one is going to stay here forever. ||51||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਚਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਇਥੇ) ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ (ਭੀ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੫੧॥
ਜੋ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਸੋ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਹੈ ਪਰੋ ਆਜੁ ਕੈ ਕਾਲਿ ॥
jo upji-o so binas hai paro aaj kai kaal.
Whatever has been created will perish, sooner or later.
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ) ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਜ਼ਰੂਰ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ (ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਇਥੋਂ) ਅੱਜ ਜਾਂ ਭਲਕੇ ਕੂਚ ਕਰ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਲੇ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਗਲ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੫੨॥
naanak har gun gaa-ay lay chhaad sagal janjaal. ||52||
O’ Nanak, leave aside all worldly entanglements and sing God’s praises. ||52||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਝੰਜਟ ਛਡ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰ ॥੫੨॥

ਬਲੁ ਛੁਟਕਿਓ ਬੰਧਨ ਪਰੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਤ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
bal chhutki-o banDhan paray kachhoo na hot upaa-ay.
When one is caught in the bonds of love for Maya, he becomes spiritually powerless and then he cannot do anything at all to free himself.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ) ਫਾਹੀਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਆ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਤਾਕਤ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਇਹਨਾ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟਣ ਲਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਹੀਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਬ ਓਟ ਹਰਿ ਗਜ ਜਿਉ ਹੋਹੁ ਸਹਾਇ ॥੫੩॥
kaho naanak ab ot har gaj ji-o hohu sahaa-ay. ||53||
O’ Nanak say: O’ God, now You are the only support, please help him just as You helped the elephant (who was caught by an alligator). ||53||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੁਣ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਤੇਂਦੂਏ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਡਾਣ ਲਈ ਹਾਥੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਬਣਿਆ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਹਾਈ ਬਣ ॥੫੩॥
ਬਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੁਟੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਤ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
bal ho-aa banDhan chhutay sabh kichh hot upaa-ay.
When one sincerely prays before God, the spiritual strength is restored, then all the bonds of Maya are released and everything becomes possible.
(ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ) ਬਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਹਰੇਕ ਹੀਲਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਹਾਥ ਮੈ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਹੋਤ ਸਹਾਇ ॥੫੪॥
naanak sabh kichh tumrai haath mai tum hee hot sahaa-ay. ||54||
O’ Nanak, (say), O’ God, everything is in Your control and You are the only one who can support. ||54||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ (ਆਖ)- (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੫੪॥
ਸੰਗ ਸਖਾ ਸਭਿ ਤਜਿ ਗਏ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਨਿਬਹਿਓ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
sang sakhaa sabh taj ga-ay ko-oo na nib-hi-o saath.
When all the companions and friends have forsaken and no one can accompany at the end,
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਸੰਗੀ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦੋਂ (ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਬਾਹ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਏਕ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ॥੫੫॥
kaho naanak ih bipat mai tayk ayk raghunaath. ||55||
O’ Nanak say, in that predicament, God alone is the support. ||55||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ. ਆਖ- ਉਸ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫੫॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਹਿਓ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥
naam rahi-o saaDhoo rahi-o rahi-o gur gobind.
In this world God’s Name remains forever, also the saint and the Divine-Guru remains forever.
ਕੇਵਲ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪ੍ਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਕਿਨ ਜਪਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤੁ ॥੫੬॥
kaho naanak ih jagat mai kin japi-o gur mant. ||56||
O’ Nanak, say, only a rare person reflects on the Guru’s word in this world. ||56||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਆਖ- ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਜਣਾ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੀਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਮੈ ਗਹਿਓ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਮ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
raam naam ur mai gahi-o jaa kai sam nahee ko-ay.
O’ God, that person who in his heart has enshrined Your Name which has no parallel,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੰਕਟ ਮਿਟੈ ਦਰਸੁ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੫੭॥੧॥
jih simrat sankat mitai daras tuhaaro ho-ay. ||57||1||
by remembering which all the troubles end and he also experiences Your blessed vision. ||57||1||
ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਭੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫੭॥੧॥

Mundaavanee, Fifth Guru:
ਥਾਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਤਿੰਨਿ ਵਸਤੂ ਪਈਓ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੋ ॥
thaal vich tinn vastoo pa-ee-o sat santokh veechaaro.
In that human heart always remain three things, the truth, contentment and thoughtful reflection on the divine word,
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਥਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਚਰਨ, ਸੰਤੋਖ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ-ਇਹ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਟਿਕੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਪਇਓ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭਸੁ ਅਧਾਰੋ ॥
amrit naam thaakur kaa pa-i-o jis kaa sabhas aDhaaro.
in which has manifested the ambrosial nectar of God’s Name, the support of all.
ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਖਾਵੈ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਭੁੰਚੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰੋ ॥
jay ko khaavai jay ko bhunchai tis kaa ho-ay uDhaaro.
Anyone who partakes and enjoys this spiritual food, is saved from the vices.
(ਇਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਭੋਜਨ ਨੂੰ) ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਉ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਹ ਵਸਤੁ ਤਜੀ ਨਹ ਜਾਈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਰਖੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੋ ॥
ayh vasat tajee nah jaa-ee nit nit rakh ur Dhaaro.
This commodity of Naam is so essential for spiritual enlightenment that it cannot be forsaken; therefore keep this always and forever in your heart.
ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਵਸਤੂ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖ।
ਤਮ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਚਰਨ ਲਗਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
tam sansaar charan lag taree-ai sabh naanak barahm pasaaro. ||1||
O’ Nanak, the dark world-ocean of vices is crossed over by remembering God’s Name and this entire creation becomes visible as an expanse of God. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਆਪੇ ਦਾ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੀ (ਦਿੱਸਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥

Shalok, Fifth Guru:
ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਤੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈਨੋ ਜੋਗੁ ਕੀਤੋਈ ॥
tayraa keetaa jaato naahee maino jog keeto-ee.
O’ God, I have not understood the worth of the favor done by You; on Your own You have made me worthy (for this service).
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੂੰ (ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਣਿਆਰੇ ਕੋ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਪੇ ਤਰਸੁ ਪਇਓਈ ॥
mai nirguni-aaray ko gun naahee aapay taras pa-i-o-ee.
There is no virtue in me, the unvirtuous one; but You Yourself took pity on me.
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਤਰਸ ਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਤਰਸੁ ਪਇਆ ਮਿਹਰਾਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਜਣੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ॥
taras pa-i-aa mihraamat ho-ee satgur sajan mili-aa.
When you took pity upon me, I was blessed with Your benediction and I met the beloved true Guru.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤਰਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਥੀਵੈ ਹਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
naanak naam milai taaN jeevaaN tan man theevai hari-aa. ||1||
O Nanak, when I am blessed with God’s Name, only then I spiritually rejuvenate and my body and mind blossom forth in delight. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਖਿੜ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਕ ਰਾਗ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜ (ਬਿਰੰਗਨ) ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ
ਸੰਗਿ ਅਲਾਪਹਿ ਆਠਉ ਨੰਦਨ ॥

ਰਾਗੀ ਜਨ ਇਕ ਰਾਗ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਠ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ-ਰਾਗ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਰਾਗ ਭੈਰਉ ਵੈ ਕਰਹੀ ॥
