ਹਉ ਜੀਉ ਕਰੀ ਤਿਸ ਵਿਟਉ ਚਉ ਖੰਨੀਐ ਜੋ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੀ ਦਿਖਾਵਏ ॥
ha-o jee-o karee tis vita-o cha-o khannee-ai jo mai piree dikhaava-ay.
I would sacrifice my life to anyone who helps me visualize my beloved God.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਾ ਦੇਵੇ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਜਿੰਦ ਚਾਰ ਟੋਟੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ (ਸਦਕੇ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੇਲਾਵਏ ॥੫॥
naanak har ho-ay da-i-aal taaN gur pooraa maylaava-ay. ||5||
O’ Nanak, when God bestows mercy, He unites one with the perfect Guru. ||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੂੜੀ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
antar jor ha-umai tan maa-i-aa koorhee aavai jaa-ay.
Within whom ego is dominating and his body is controlled by the love for Maya, he visits the Guru’s place for appearance (pretends to follow the Guru’s word).
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੀ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਨਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
satgur kaa furmaa-i-aa man na sakee dutar tari-aa na jaa-ay.
He cannot obey the true Guru’s teachings, and therefore cannot swim across the dreadful worldly ocean of vices.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋ ਚਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
nadar karay jis aapnee so chalai satgur bhaa-ay.
Upon whom God bestows His gracious glance, only that person walks in harmony with the will of the true Guru.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਤੋਰ) ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
satgur kaa darsan safal hai jo ichhai so fal paa-ay.
The blessed vision of the true Guru is fruitful and one who follows the teachings of the true Guru, achieves what he wishes for.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਫਲ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਮੰਗ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੰਨਿਆਂ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
jinee satgur manni-aaN ha-o tin kay laaga-o paa-ay.
I respectfully bow to those who believe in the teachings of the true Guru.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣਾਈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੬॥
naanak taa kaa daas hai je an-din rahai liv laa-ay. ||6||
Nanak is forever a devotee of that person who continually remains focused on the true Guru’s teachings. ||6||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਗੁਰੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਦਾਸ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ॥
jinaa piree pi-aar bin darsan ki-o taripat-ee-ai.
Those who are in love with their beloved God, how can they be satiated without visualizing Him?
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ) ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਬਗੈਰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ?
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਹਸੀਐ ॥੭॥
naanak milay subhaa-ay gurmukh ih man rehsee-ai. ||7||
O’ Nanak, those people remain merged in the love of their beloved God; this mind of the Guru’s follower remains delighted. ||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਇਸੇ ਕਰਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਪਿਰ ਬਾਹਰੇ ॥
jinaa piree pi-aar ki-o jeevan pir baahray.
Those who are in love with their beloved God, how can they remain spiritually alive without Him?
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ) ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਊ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ?
ਜਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਦੇਖਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਥੀਵਨਿ ਭੀ ਹਰੇ ॥੮॥
jaaN saho daykhan aapnaa naanak theevan bhee haray. ||8||
O’ Nanak, when they visualize their Master-God, then they spiritually rejuvenate again. ||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥
ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨੇਹੁ ਤੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
jinaa gurmukh andar nayhu tai pareetam sachai laa-i-aa.
O’ the beloved eternal God, those within whom You have instilled Your love through the Guru,
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਾਤੀ ਅਤੈ ਡੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
raatee atai dayhu naanak paraym samaa-i-aa. ||9||
O’ Nanak, they remain immersed in Your love day and night. ||9||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੯॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੀ ਆਸਕੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
gurmukh sachee aaskee jit pareetam sachaa paa-ee-ai.
O’ brother, within the Guru’s followers is true love the beloved eternal God, through which they realize Him,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ), ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹਹਿ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੧੦॥
an-din raheh anand naanak sahj samaa-ee-ai. ||10||
and they always remain in a state of bliss: O’ Nanak, this is how we remain merged in a state of spiritual poise. ||10||
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ: ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਸਚਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sachaa paraym pi-aar gur pooray tay paa-ee-ai.
Everlasting love and affection for God is received only from the perfect Guru.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੰਗੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧੧॥
kabhoo na hovai bhang naanak har gun gaa-ee-ai. ||11||
and that love never breaks; O’ Nanak, we should keep singing God’s praises (to keep this love in intact). ||11||
(ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰ) ਕਦੇ ਟੁੱਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਸ ਪਿਆਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪਿਰੀ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ॥
jinHaa andar sachaa nayhu ki-o jeevniH piree vihooni-aa.
Those who have everlasting love for God within them, how can they spiritually survive without remembering Him?
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਊ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੧੨॥
gurmukh maylay aap naanak chiree vichhunni-aa. ||12||
O’ Nanak, through the Guru, God Himself unites those who have been separated from Him for a long time. ||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਚਿਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਤਉ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰਿ ॥
jin ka-o paraym pi-aar ta-o aapay laa-i-aa karam kar.
O’ God, by bestowing grace, those whom You have imbued with Your love and affection,
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਮੈ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ॥੧੩॥
naanak layho milaa-ay mai jaachik deejai naam har. ||13||
O’ God, unite Nanak with them and bless this seeker with Your Name. ||13||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ ॥੧੩॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
gurmukh hasai gurmukh rovai.
The Guru’s follower sometimes laughs with the bliss of union with God, and at other times cries feeling separated from Him,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ) ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਦੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਬਿਰਹੋਂ-ਰਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਵੈਰਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
je gurmukh karay saa-ee bhagat hovai.
but whatever the Guru’s follower does, is devotional worship.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gurmukh hovai so karay veechaar.
The one who is a Guru’s follower, reflects on divine word of God’s praises.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੧੪॥
gurmukh naanak paavai paar. ||14||
O’ Nanak, the Guru’s follower is able to find the other shore of (cross over) the worldly ocean of vices. ||14||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ) ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
jinaa andar naam niDhaan hai gurbaanee veechaar.
By reflecting on the Guru’s word, those within whom is enshrined the treasure of God’s Naam,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ- ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਸਦ ਉਜਲੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥
tin kay mukh sad ujlay tit sachai darbaar.
their faces shine brightly (they are honored) in the eternal God’s presence.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਰੱਬੀ) ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਨ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
tin bahdi-aa uth-di-aa kaday na visrai je aap bakhsay kartaar.
Those upon whom the creator-God Himself bestowed grace, never forsake Him in any state or any situation.
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਠਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁੱਲਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਜਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿ ॥੧੫॥
naanak gurmukh milay na vichhurheh je maylay sirjanhaar. ||15||
O’ Nanak, those whom the Creator Himself has united through the Guru, they are never separated from Him ever again. ||15||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਦੇ ॥੧੫॥
ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰਾਂ ਕੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਮਹਾਂ ਕਰੜੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
gur peeraaN kee chaakree mahaaN karrhee sukh saar.
O’ brother, extremely difficult is to follow the teachings of the Guru and prophets, but it provides supreme bliss.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ) ਕਾਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਏ ਹੇਤ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
nadar karay jis aapnee tis laa-ay hayt pi-aar.
One upon whom God bestows gracious glance, He imbues that one with the love for the Guru
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ-ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵੈ ਲਗਿਆ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
satgur kee sayvai lagi-aa bha-ojal tarai sansaar.
The world crosses over the worldly ocean of vices by following the true Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਿਆਂ ਜਗਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
man chindi-aa fal paa-isee antar bibayk beechaar.
Whosoever follows the Guru’s teachings, will attain the fruit of his heart’s desire, and within him will develop the discerning intellect.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਉਹ) ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੀ ਮੁਰਾਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏਗਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ (ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧੬॥
naanak satgur mili-ai parabh paa-ee-ai sabh dookh nivaaranhaar. ||16||
O’ Nanak, by following the true Guru’s teachings, we are able to realize God Who is the destroyer of all sorrows. ||16||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
manmukh sayvaa jo karay doojai bhaa-ay chit laa-ay.
Whatever service a self-willed person does, he keeps his mind constantly attached to the love of duality.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਭੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ) ਚਿੱਤ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ|
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇ ॥
put kalat kutamb hai maa-i-aa moh vaDhaa-ay.
By having emotional attachment to children, spouse and relatives, his love for materialism keeps increasing.
(ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ) ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਮੇਰਾ) ਪਰਵਾਰ ਹੈ (-ਇਹ ਆਖ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਵਧਾਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਰਗਹਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਕੋਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਛਡਾਇ ॥
dargahi laykhaa mangee-ai ko-ee ant na sakee chhadaa-ay.
When the account of his deeds is called for in God’s presence, no one can save him from punishment by the demons of death.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਤਾਂ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਕੋਈ ਛੁਡਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
