ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾਂ ਆਪੇ ਲੈਹਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
nadar karahi jay aapnee taaN aapay laihi savaar.
O’ God, if You bestow Your gracious glance on the human beings, then You Yourself embellish their spiritual lives.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਆਏ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੬੩॥
naanak gurmukh jinHee Dhi-aa-i-aa aa-ay say parvaan. ||63||
O’ Nanak, those who followed the Guru’s teachings and remembered God with adoration, their coming into this world is approved. ||63||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਜੰਮੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬੩॥
ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਭਗਵੀ ਕਪੜੀ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਮੈਲੇ ਵੇਸਿ ॥
jog na bhagvee kaprhee jog na mailay vays.
Union with God cannot be attained by just wearing saffron robes (like a yogi) or by wearing dirty clothes (like a beggar).
ਗੇਰੂਏ ਰੰਗ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂ ਮੈਲੇ ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਜੋਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ॥੬੪॥
naanak ghar baithi-aa jog paa-ee-ai satgur kai updays. ||64||
O’ Nanak, we can attain union with God even while sitting in our own home (leading family life) by following the teachings of the true Guru. ||64||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬੪॥
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਜੇ ਭਵਹਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
chaaray kundaa jay bhaveh bayd parheh jug chaar.
O’ brother, even if you may wander in all four directions, and read the Vedas forever, (still you cannot find the path to rid of the vices).
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ) ਚੌਹੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰੇਂ, ਤੇ, ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ) ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਰਹੇਂ (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਾ ਭੇਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰ ॥੬੫॥
naanak saachaa bhaytai har man vasai paavahi mokh du-aar. ||65||
O’ Nanak, you will find the way to freedom from vices only when you realize God, yes, only when God manifests within your mind. ||65||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ (ਤਦੋਂ) ਲੱਭ ਲਏਂਗਾ, ਜਦੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਏਗਾ, ਜਦੋਂ ਹਰੀ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸੇਗਾ ॥੬੫॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਮਤਿ ਭਵੀ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਚਲ ਚਿਤ ॥
naanak hukam vartai khasam kaa mat bhavee fireh chal chit.
O’ Nanak, God’s command pervades the world, but your intellect is working against His command, and you roam aimlessly, misled by your fickle mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਤੇਰੀ ਮੱਤ ਉਲਟੇ ਰਾਹ ਪਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਚੰਚਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ) ਵਿਚਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਉ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਸੁਖ ਕਿ ਪੁਛਹਿ ਮਿਤ ॥
manmukh sa-o kar dostee sukh ke puchheh mit.
O’ my friend, how can you hope for spiritual bliss after developing friendship with the self-willed persons?
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਉ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਉ ਲਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ॥
gurmukh sa-o kar dostee satgur sa-o laa-ay chit.
Make friends with the Guru’s followers, and focus your mind on the true Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਬਣਾ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ।
ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੀ ਮਿਤ ॥੬੬॥
jaman maran kaa mool katee-ai taaN sukh hovee mit. ||66||
O’ my friend, by doing so the root of the cycle of birth and death will be cut and you will find inner peace. ||66||
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਨਮ ਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਵੱਢੀ ਜਾਊਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ॥੬੬॥
ਭੁਲਿਆਂ ਆਪਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਸੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥
bhuli-aaN aap samjhaa-isee jaa ka-o nadar karay.
When God casts gracious glance on the strayed ones, He Himself bestows them the understanding of the spiritual life.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਰਸਤੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਹ ਕਰੇ ॥੬੭॥
naanak nadree baahree karan palaah karay. ||67||
O’ Nanak, one who is bereft of God’s gracious glance, continues to lament in pain. ||67||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਦਾ) ਕੀਰਨੇ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬੭॥

Shalok, Fourth Guru:
ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਲੋਕ।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
vadbhaagee-aa sohaaganee jinHaa gurmukh mili-aa har raa-ay.
Very fortunate and blessed are those who by the Guru’s grace, have realized God, the sovereign king.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
antar jot pargaasee-aa naanak naam samaa-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, by remaining absorbed in God’s Name, a Divine light is revealed within them. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਮਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
vaahu vaahu satgur purakh hai jin sach jaataa so-ay.
Really blessed and praiseworthy is the omnipotent true Guru who has realized the eternal God,
ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਯੋਗ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਤਿਖ ਉਤਰੈ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jit mili-ai tikh utrai tan man seetal ho-ay.
upon meeting whom, the yearning for the Maya is quenched, the body and mind become calm.
ਜਿਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਤਨ ਅਤੇ ਮਨ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਮਤੁ ਸਭ ਕੋਇ ॥
vaahu vaahu satgur sat purakh hai jis no samat sabh ko-ay.
Really blessed and praiseworthy is that true Guru, the eternal being, for whom all are alike.
ਗੁਰੂ ਸੱਤ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ (ਦਿੱਸਦਾ) ਹੈ।
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਤੁਲਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
vaahu vaahu satgur nirvair hai jis nindaa ustat tul ho-ay.
Blessed and praiseworthy is the true Guru who is without enmity, and for whom both praise and slander are the same.
ਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ, ਕੋਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ (ਉਹ) ਨਿੰਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਜਾਪਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
vaahu vaahu satgur sujaan hai jis antar barahm veechaar.
Praiseworthy and wonderful is the sagacious true Guru within whom is divine understanding
ਗੁਰੂ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਿਚ) ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਤਮ-ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ।
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
vaahu vaahu satgur nirankaar hai jis ant na paaraavaar.
Praiseworthy is the true Guru who is the embodiment of the formless God whose virtues have no end or limit.
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਉਸ) ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਉਰਲਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
vaahu vaahu satguroo hai je sach drirh-aa-ay so-ay.
Wonderful and praiseworthy is the true Guru who firmly implants the eternal God’s Name in one’s heart.
ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak satgur vaahu vaahu jis tay naam paraapat ho-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, praiseworthy is the true Guru, from whom Naam is received. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸਤਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਜੋਗ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
har parabh sachaa sohilaa gurmukh naam govind.
For the Guru’s followers, God’s Name is the true song of His praises.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ॥
an-din naam salaahnaa har japi-aa man aanand.
Those who have always recited God’s praises and have lovingly remembered God, there is permanent bliss in their mind.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਪਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ॥
vadbhaagee har paa-i-aa pooran parmaanand.
The fortunate ones have realized God, the source of supreme spiritual bliss.
ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥੩॥
jan naanak naam sahaali-aa bahurh na man tan bhang. ||3||
O’ Devotee Nanak, those who have always praised God’s Name, the peace of their mind and body is not disturbed again. ||3||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ) ਮੁੜ ਕਦੇ ਤੋਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ॥੩॥
ਮੂੰ ਪਿਰੀਆ ਸਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਸਜਣ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
mooN piree-aa sa-o nayhu ki-o sajan mileh pi-aari-aa.
I am in love with my beloved God, I wonder, how can I meet those beloved friends who can help me unite with Him?
(ਆਪਣੇ) ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ (ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਕਿਵੇਂ (ਉਹ) ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਣ (ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਣ)।
ਹਉ ਢੂਢੇਦੀ ਤਿਨ ਸਜਣ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
ha-o dhoodhaydee tin sajan sach savaari-aa.
I am in search of those true friends whose life has been embellished by the eternal God.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੱਜਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੈਡਾ ਮਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
satgur maidaa mit hai jay milai ta ih man vaari-aa.
The true Guru is my real friend, if I meet him I would dedicate this mind to him.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਹੀ) ਮੇਰਾ (ਅਸਲ) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ। ਜੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ) ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ (ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ) ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਕੇ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂ।
ਦੇਂਦਾ ਮੂੰ ਪਿਰੁ ਦਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
dayNdaa mooN pir das har sajan sirjanhaari-aa.
Only the Guru can tell me that the Creator-God is the real Well-wisher.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹਰੀ (ਹੀ ਅਸਲ) ਸੱਜਣ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਪਿਰੁ ਭਾਲੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ॥੪॥
naanak ha-o pir bhaalee aapnaa satgur naal dikhaali-aa. ||4||
O’ Nanak, I was searching for my beloved Master God, and you have shown me that He has been right beside me. ||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਢੂੰਢ ਰਿਹਾਸਾਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ) ਨਾਲ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਹਉ ਖੜੀ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ਪੰਧੁ ਮਤੁ ਮੂੰ ਸਜਣੁ ਆਵਏ ॥
ha-o kharhee nihaalee panDh mat mooN sajan aav-ay.
I am waiting and looking on the path, perhaps my beloved Guru is coming,
ਮੈਂ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਲੋ ਕੇ, ਤੇਰੀ ਇੰਤਜਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਆ ਵੰਝੇ।
ਕੋ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਅਜੁ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਏ ॥
ko aan milaavai aj mai pir mayl milaava-ay.
I wish that someone might arrive today (in this life-time) and unite me with my Master-God.
ਕੋਈ ਜਣਾ ਆ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅੱਜ (ਇਸੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ
