ਮਹਾ ਅਭਾਗ ਅਭਾਗ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਨ ਪੀਜੈ ॥
mahaa abhaag abhaag hai jin kay tin saaDhoo Dhoor na peejai.
Extremely unfortunate are those who do not get the dust of the feet (humble service and teachings) of the saintly people.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਮੰਦੇ ਭਾਗ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਨਸੀਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਤਿਨਾ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਜਲਤ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਡੰਡੁ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਾ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੬॥
tinaa tisnaa jalat jalat nahee boojheh dand Dharam raa-ay kaa deejai. ||6||
The fire of their worldly desires is always burning which never gets extinguished and they receive the punishment from the righteous Judge. ||6||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਬੁਝਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ,ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ॥੬॥
ਸਭਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਤ ਜਗ੍ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀਏ ਹਿਵੈ ਗਾਲਿ ਗਾਲਿ ਤਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥
sabh tirath barat jag-y punn kee-ay hivai gaal gaal tan chheejai.
Even if one visits all sacred shrines, observes fasts, performs sacred feasts, gives charities and ruins one’s body by living in snow caves,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਰੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਕਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਰਤ, ਜੱਗ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ) ਪੁੰਨ-ਦਾਨ ਕਰੇ, (ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੁੰਦ੍ਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਬਰਫ਼ ਵਿਚ ਗਾਲ ਗਾਲ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰੇ,
ਅਤੁਲਾ ਤੋਲੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕੋ ਪੁਜੈ ਨ ਤੋਲ ਤੁਲੀਜੈ ॥੭॥
atulaa tol raam naam hai gurmat ko pujai na tol tuleejai. ||7||
still none of these is equal in worth to the inestimable worth of remembering God’s Name by following the Guru’s teachings. ||7||
(ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਾਧਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਤੋਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ॥੭॥
ਤਵ ਗੁਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤੂ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੀਜੈ ॥
tav gun barahm barahm too jaaneh jan naanak saran pareejai.
O’ God, You only know about Your virtues; devotee Nanak prays, O’ God, bestow mercy so that we human beings remain in Your refuge.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਤੂੰ (ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹੀਏ l
ਤੂ ਜਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੀਨ ਹਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਖੀਜੈ ॥੮॥੩॥
too jal niDh meen ham tayray kar kirpaa sang rakheejai. ||8||3||
You are like our ocean and we human beings are like Your fish, please bestow mercy and keep us in Your refuge (presence). ||8||3||
ਤੂੰ (ਸਾਡਾ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਮੱਛੀਆਂ ਹਾਂ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਰੱਖੀ ਰੱਖ ॥੮॥੩॥

Raag Kalyan, Fourth Guru:
ਰਾਮਾ ਰਮ ਰਾਮੋ ਪੂਜ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
raamaa ram raamo pooj kareejai.
We should always devotionally worship the all-pervading God.
ਸਦਾ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਉ ਸਭੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਸੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man tan arap Dhara-o sabh aagai ras gurmat gi-aan darirheejai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I would surrender my mind, body and everything else to him, who through the Guru’s teachings, enshrines the love for God’s Name and the understanding of the spiritual living in me. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟਾ ਰੱਖ ਦਿਆਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਖ ਤਰੋਵਰ ਨਿਤ ਚੁਨਿ ਚੁਨਿ ਪੂਜ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
barahm naam gun saakh tarovar nit chun chun pooj kareejai.
God’s Name is like a tree and His virtues are like branches; we should always worship God by picking and offering the flowers of His praises from them.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਰੁਖ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਰੁਖ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਖ਼ਾਂ ਹਨ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਹੀ) ਚੁਣ ਚੁਣ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮ-ਦੇਵ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਤਮ ਦੇਉ ਦੇਉ ਹੈ ਆਤਮੁ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਪੂਜ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥੧॥
aatam day-o day-o hai aatam ras laagai pooj kareejai. ||1||
God alone is the source of divine enlightenment, so focusing ourselves on the sublime essence of God’s Name, we should worship Him devotionally. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮ ਦੇਵ ਹੈ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-) ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਿਚਰਿ ਬਿਚਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥
bibayk buDh sabh jag meh nirmal bichar bichar ras peejai.
Most immaculate is the discerning wisdom in this world, we should partake the sublime elixir of Naam by reflecting again and again on God’s virtues.
ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ- ਰਸ ਪੀਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
gur parsaad padaarath paa-i-aa satgur ka-o ih man deejai. ||2||
This commodity of Naam is received only by the Guru’s grace, therefore, we should surrender our mind to the Guru. ||2||
ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਿਰਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਤਿ ਹੀਰੋ ਨੀਕੋ ਹੀਰੈ ਹੀਰੁ ਬਿਧੀਜੈ ॥
nirmolak at heero neeko heerai heer biDheejai.
Naam is like an extremely beautiful and priceless diamond, and we should pierce our diamond-like mind with this diamond-like Naam.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਰਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਹੈ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ-ਹੀਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੋ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਮੋਤੀ ਸਾਲੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਹੀਰਾ ਪਰਖਿ ਲਈਜੈ ॥੩॥
man motee saal hai gur sabdee jit heeraa parakh la-eejai. ||3||
Through the Guru’s word, one’s mind becomes like a jeweller which then appraises the worth of diamond- like God’s Name and realizes it. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਜੌਹਰੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਰਾ ਪਰਖ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਗਿ ਊਚੇ ਜਿਉ ਪੀਪ ਪਲਾਸ ਖਾਇ ਲੀਜੈ ॥
sangat sant sang lag oochay ji-o peep palaas khaa-ay leejai.
One can get exalted by joining the company of saints and humbly serving them; just as the Peepal tree absorbs Palaas, a useless plant.
ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਛਿਛਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੱਪਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਭ ਨਰ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਊਤਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਾਸੁ ਬਸੀਜੈ ॥੪॥
sabh nar meh paraanee ootam hovai raam naamai baas baseejai. ||4||
similarly that person, within whom abides the fragrance of God’s Name, becomes supreme among all human beings. ||4||
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਵੱਸ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਮ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਨੇ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਖਾ ਹਰੀ ਜੜੀਜੈ ॥
nirmal nirmal karam baho keenay nit saakhaa haree jarheejai.
One who has done lots of good and pure deeds, his virtues start multiplying as if everyday a new green branch grows on the tree of his life,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਹਰੀ ਸ਼ਾਖ਼ ਨਿੱਤ ਉੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਧਰਮੁ ਫੁਲੁ ਫਲੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਬਹਕਾਰ ਬਾਸੁ ਜਗਿ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੫॥
Dharam ful fal gur gi-aan drirh-aa-i-aa behkaar baas jag deejai. ||5||
which yields the flower of righteousness, and the fruit of divine wisdom imparted by the Guru, whose fragrance spreads throughout the world. ||5||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮ-ਰੂਪ ਫੁੱਲ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ) ਮਹਕਾਰ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਖਿਲਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਭ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਇਕੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
ayk jot ayko man vasi-aa sabh barahm darisat ik keejai.
Only the divine light of God is pervading the entire world, and God is residing in everybody’s mind and we should develop the vision to visualize Him in all.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਇਕ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ (ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ), ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ (ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਭ ਏਕੈ ਹੈ ਪਸਰੇ ਸਭ ਚਰਨ ਤਲੇ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੬॥
aatam raam sabh aykai hai pasray sabh charan talay sir deejai. ||6||
Only God is pervading the entire world, so we should bow our heads to all. ||6||
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਪਸਾਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਹੇਠ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਿਰ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਕਟੇ ਨਰ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਤਿਨ ਘਸਿ ਘਸਿ ਨਾਕ ਵਢੀਜੈ ॥
naam binaa naktay nar daykhhu tin ghas ghas naak vadheejai.
Look at those shameless people who are bereft of Naam; they are disgraced bit by bit as if their noses are getting chopped off bit by bit.
ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਨੱਕ-ਵੱਢੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਵਲ ਵੇਖੋ , ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਨੱਕ-ਵੱਢੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵੀਜੈ ॥੭॥
saakat nar ahaNkaaree kahee-ahi bin naavai Dharig jeeveejai. ||7||
The faithless cynics, people who are separated from God, are called arrogant because life lived without Naam is accursed. ||7||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਆਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜੀਵਨ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਸਾਸੁ ਸਾਸੁ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਤੁ ਬੇਗਲ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੀਜੈ ॥
jab lag saas saas man antar tat baygal saran pareejai.
As long as there is even one breath in our body, we should seek God’s refuge without any hesitation.
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਕ ਸਾਹ ਭੀ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਝਿਜਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਮੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਨ ਪਖੀਜੈ ॥੮॥੪॥
naanak kirpaa kirpaa kar Dhaarahu mai saaDhoo charan pakheejai. ||8||4||
O’ Nanak, say, O’ God, please show mercy upon me so that I may keep washing the feet of the saints and keep serving them with humility. ||8||
ਨਾਨਕ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੮॥੪॥

O’ God, I wish that I may keep washing the feet of the saints (I may keep living by the Guru’s teachings),
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ (ਨਿੱਤ) ਧੋਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ,
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦਹਨ ਹੋਹਿ ਖਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kilbikh dahan hohi khin antar mayray thaakur kirpaa keejai. ||1|| rahaa-o.

ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੜ ਬਲ ਜਾਣ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ (ਇਹ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੰਗਤ ਜਨ ਦੀਨ ਖਰੇ ਦਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਅਤਿ ਤਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
mangat jan deen kharay dar thaadhay at tarsan ka-o daan deejai.
O’ God, the humble beggars are standing in Your presence, please give them the gift of Naam, for which they are yearning.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਮੰਗਤੇ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਦਰ ਤੇ ਖਲੋਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਬਹੁਤ ਤਰਸ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ) ਖ਼ੈਰ ਪਾ।
ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਏ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੀਜੈ ॥੧॥
taraahi taraahi saran parabh aa-ay mo ka-o gurmat naam darirheejai. ||1||
O’ God! I have come to Your refuge, please protect me (from the vices) and through the Guru’s teachings, implant Your Name within me. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲਈ ਹੈ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ॥੧॥
ਕਾਮ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਲਾ ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਉਠਿ ਜੂਝੁ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
kaam karoDh nagar meh sablaa nit uth uth joojh kareejai.
O’ God, powerful vices like lust and anger reside within our body, we have to battle with them every day to control them.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ- ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ (ਆਦਿਕ ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਬਲਵਾਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਉੱਠ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਜੁੱਧ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਾਢਿ ਕਢੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
angeekaar karahu rakh layvhu gur pooraa kaadh kadheejai. ||2||
O’ God, accept us as Your own and protect us from these vices, and free us from the grip of these passions by uniting us with the Guru. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿਜ ਦਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ। ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੱਢ ਲੈ ॥੨॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਬਲ ਅਤਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਹਿਵ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
antar agan sabal at bikhi-aa hiv seetal sabad gur deejai.
The fire of poisonous worldly desires is raging within the beings, please bless them with the Guru’s word which is cool like ice.
