ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
kirpaa kirpaa kirpaa kar har jee-o kar kirpaa naam lagaavaigo.
O’ dear God, please bestow mercy; God Himself bestows mercy and unites mortal with His Name
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ; ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥
kar kirpaa satguroo milaavhu mil satgur naam Dhi-aavaigo. ||1||
O’ God, bestow mercy and unite me with the true Guru because one can remember You only by meeting him (following his teachings). ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਵੋ। ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਲੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
janam janam kee ha-umai mal laagee mil sangat mal leh jaavaigo.
The mind has been defiled with the filth of ego collected over many births; this filth is washed off by joining the holy congregation.
(ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਚੰਬੜੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਲੋਹਾ ਤਰਿਓ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਾਸਟ ਲਗਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥
ji-o lohaa tari-o sang kaasat lag sabad guroo har paavaigo. ||2||
Just as iron attached to wood is carried across the ocean, similarly one realizes God by attaching oneself to the Guru’s word. ||2||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲੋਹਾ ਕਾਠ ਦੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਨਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
sangat sant milhu satsangat mil sangat har ras aavaigo.
Join the company of the true saints, because by joining the holy congregation one starts enjoying the bliss of God’s Name.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਆਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਕਢਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਚੀਕੜੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥
bin sangat karam karai abhimaanee kadh paanee cheekarh paavaigo. ||3||
But without joining the holy congregation, an egotistical person does such deeds, that he is losing virtues and gathers vices as if he is drawing out clean water from his pot and filling it with the mud. ||3||
ਪਰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਣੀ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਵਿਚ) ਚਿੱਕੜ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥3||
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
bhagat janaa kay har rakhvaaray jan har ras meeth lagaavaigo.
God is the savior of His devotees; that is why the nectar of His Name seems so sweet to them.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਪ ਰਾਖੇ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਤਾਹੀਏਂ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥
khin khin naam day-ay vadi-aa-ee satgur updays samaavaigo. ||4||
The devotee who remains absorbed in the Guru’s teachings, God blesses him with the glory of His Name at each and every moment. ||4||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭਗਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ (ਸ਼ਬਦ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਖਿਨ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੪॥
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਵਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਜਨ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਫਲ ਗੁਨ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
bhagat janaa ka-o sadaa niv rahee-ai jan niveh taa fal gun paavaigo.
We should always bow in deep respect to the humble devotees; those who respect the devotees obtain the fruit of the divine virtues.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਗਤ ਜਨ (ਆਪ ਭੀ) ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤਦੋਂ (ਹੀ) ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੁਸਟ ਕਰਹਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ ਜਿਉ ਪਚਿ ਜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥
jo nindaa dusat karahi bhagtaa kee harnaakhas ji-o pach jaavaigo. ||5||
But the evil persons, who slander God’s devotees, are killed like Harnaakash, the demon.||5||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਭੈੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ ਵਾਂਗ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੫॥
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਮਲ ਪੁਤੁ ਮੀਨ ਬਿਆਸਾ ਤਪੁ ਤਾਪਨ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
barahm kamal put meen bi-aasaa tap taapan pooj karaavaigo
Brahma, the son of a lotus, and Vyas, the son of a fish, are being worshipped because of the penance they practiced.
ਕੰਵਲ ਦੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਬਰਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੱਛੀ ਦੇ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਆਸ ਨੇ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਭੀ ਤੇ ਬਿਆਸ ਭੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ) ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਭਗਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੋ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਭਰਮਨ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥
jo jo bhagat ho-ay so poojahu bharman bharam chukaavaigo. ||6||
Worship whosoever is the true devotee of God, by doing so you would eradicate your doubt and wandering in incarnations. ||6||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਭਗਤ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਸਤਕਾਰ ਕਰੋ।ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਤਕਾਰ ਵੱਡੀ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਜਾਤ ਨਜਾਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਤ ਭਰਮਹੁ ਸੁਕ ਜਨਕ ਪਗੀਂ ਲਗਿ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
jaat najaat daykh mat bharmahu suk janak pageeN lag Dhi-aavaigo.
Do not be misled by any doubt of belonging to the highest caste, see how Brehman Sukdev mediated on His God by bowing at the feet of khatri Janak,
ਉੱਚੀ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਭੀ) ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਨਾਹ ਖਾ ਜਾਓ, ਰਾਜਾ ਜਨਕ ਖੱਤਰੀ ਦੇ ਪੇਰੀ ਡਿਗ ਕੇ, ਸੁਖਦੇਵ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।
ਜੂਠਨ ਜੂਠਿ ਪਈ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਖਿਨੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਡੁਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥
joothan jooth pa-ee sir oopar khin manoo-aa til na dulaavaigo. ||7||
Even though leftover food and garbage was thrown on Sukdev’s head, still Sukdev’s mind did not waver even for an instant. ||7||
ਪੱਤਲਾ ਦੀ ਜੂਠ ਮੂਠ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੀਸ ਉਤੇ ਡਿਗਦੀ ਸੀ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਇਕ ਭੋਰਾ ਤੇ ਰਤੀ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਨਾਂ ਥਿੜਕਿਆ ॥੭॥
ਜਨਕ ਜਨਕ ਬੈਠੇ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨਿ ਨਉ ਮੁਨੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਲੈ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
janak janak baithay singhaasan na-o munee Dhoor lai laavaigo.
Many wise kings like Janak, while sitting on the throne, applied the dust of the feet of nine sages to their foreheads.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਕ (ਆਪਣੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਜਿਸ) ਰਾਜ-ਗੱਦੀ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ (ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਸੇ ਖ਼ਾਨਦਾਨ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਨਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਨੌ ਰਿਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੈ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਕਰਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak kirpaa kirpaa kar thaakur mai daasan daas karaavaigo. ||8||2||
O’ Nanak, say, O’ God, show mercy on me, and make me a servant of Your devotees. ||8||2||.
ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! (ਮੇਰੇ) ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਭਗਤ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਹ, ਜਿਹੜਾ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲਏ ॥੮॥੨॥
ਕਾਨੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Raag Kaanraa, Fourth Guru:
ਮਨੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
man gurmat ras gun gaavaigo.
That person whose mind follows the Guru’s teachings and starts singing God’s Praise,
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ (ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਏਕ ਹੋਇ ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jihvaa ayk ho-ay lakh kotee lakh kotee kot Dhi-aavaigo. ||1|| rahaa-o.
he sings so many praises of God as if his one tongue has becomes millions and each one sings God’s praises millions of times. ||1||Pause||
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਤਨਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਜੀਭ ਇਕ ਤੋਂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਬਣ ਕੇ (ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੀ ਥੱਕਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਹਸ ਫਨੀ ਜਪਿਓ ਸੇਖਨਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤਿਆ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
sahas fanee japi-o saykhnaagai har japti-aa ant na paavaigo.
The mythical Shesh Naag (king cobra), meditated on God with his thousands of heads, but even by these chants, he could not find God’s limits.
ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਨਾਗ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੀ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ) ਫ਼ਨ ਨਾਲ (ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਹੇ, ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਤੂ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਹੈ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਠਹਰਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥
too athaahu at agam agam hai mat gurmat man thehraavaigo. ||1||
O’ God! You are unfathomable, inaccessible and infinite; one’s mind becomes spiritually stable by remembering God through the Guru’s teachings. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਅਥਾਹ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਭਟਕਣੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਜਪਿਓ ਤੇਈ ਜਨ ਨੀਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤਿਅਹੁ ਕਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
jin too japi-o tay-ee jan neekay har japti-ahu ka-o sukh paavaigo.
O’ God, those who have meditated on You, are the most virtuous ones and have attained inner peace by remembering God.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੰਗੇ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਬਣੇ ਹਨ। ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਆਨੰਦ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਦਰ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁਤੁ ਛੋਕ ਛੋਹਰਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨੁ ਅੰਕਿ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥
bidar daasee sut chhok chhohraa krisan ank gal laavaigo. ||2||
Bidar was the son of a maidservant; because of his loving devotion to God, god Krishna hugged him to his bosom.||2||.
(ਵੇਖੋ, ਇਕ) ਦਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਿਦਰ ਛੋਕਰਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਸੀ, (ਪਰ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ॥੨॥
ਜਲ ਤੇ ਓਪਤਿ ਭਈ ਹੈ ਕਾਸਟ ਕਾਸਟ ਅੰਗਿ ਤਰਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
jal tay opat bha-ee hai kaasat kaasat ang taraavaigo.
Wood is born out of water, which ferries it across by keeping it afloat.
ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਠ ਦੀ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਲਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਣ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਉਸ) ਕਾਠ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ)
ਰਾਮ ਜਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਰਖਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥
raam janaa har aap savaaray apnaa birad rakhaavaigo. ||3||
God Himself embellishes His devotees with virtues and thus keeps alive His tradition of protecting His followers.||3||
(ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣਾ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਮ ਪਾਥਰ ਲੋਹ ਲੋਹ ਬਡ ਪਾਥਰ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਵ ਤਰਾਵੈਗੋ ॥
ham paathar loh loh bad paathar gur sangat naav taraavaigo.
Due to our sins, we are heavy like stones and pieces of iron, but we can cross this world ocean of vices in the boat of the Guru’s congregation.
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਪੱਥਰ (ਵਾਂਗ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਰੇ) ਹਾਂ, ਲੋਹੇ (ਵਾਂਗ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਰੇ) ਹਾਂ, (ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਬੇੜੀ (ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਜਿਉ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਤਰਿਓ ਜੁਲਾਹੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥
ji-o satsangat tari-o julaaho sant janaa man bhaavaigo. ||4||
Just as in the company of saints, the weaver Kabir was ferried across, similarly the saints are saved because God seems pleasing to their mind.||4||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੁਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਿਆ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਖਰੇ ਖਰੋਏ ਬੈਠਤ ਊਠਤ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਿ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
kharay kharo-ay baithat oothat maarag panth Dhi-aavaigo.
While sitting, standing or walking, his devotee keeps meditating and reciting His Name.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਿ-ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਖਲੇ-ਖਲੋਤਿਆਂ, ਬੈਠਦਿਆਂ, ਉੱਠਦਿਆਂ, ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ (ਤੁਰਦਿਆਂ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਬਚਨ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਧਰੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜਨਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥
satgur bachan bachan hai satgur paaDhar mukat janaavaigo. ||5||
The word of the Guru is the Guru itself, and the Guru’s teachings show us the path to freedom from the vices.||5||
ਸੱਚਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਸੱਚਾ ਗੁਰੂ। ਬਾਣੀ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਗ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਾਸਨਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਬਲੁ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ਨਿਹਸਾਸਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥
saasan saas saas bal paa-ee hai nihsaasan naam Dhi-aavaigo.
A true devotee of God meditates on His Name with every breath, and draws strength from each breath, so that even when not breathing, he keeps remembering God’s Name.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ) ਤਾਕਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਤੌ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥
gur parsaadee ha-umai boojhai tou gurmat naam samaavaigo. ||6||
When through the Guru’s grace one’s ego vanishes, then one merges in God’s Name by following the Guru’s teachings.||6||
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
