ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੈ ਭਾਰੋਸਉ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੋ ॥੨॥੬॥੨੫॥
kaho naanak aykai bhaarosa-o banDhan kaatanhaar gur mayro. ||2||6||25||
O’ Nanak, say! O’ my mind, have faith only in the Divine-Guru who alone can release us from worldly bonds. ||2||6||25||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਆਖ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਮਨ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ) ਭਰੋਸਾ (ਰੱਖ)। ਪਿਆਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ| ॥੨॥੬॥੨੫॥

Raag Kaanraa, Fifth Guru:
ਬਿਖੈ ਦਲੁ ਸੰਤਨਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੈ ਗਾਹਿਓ ॥
bikhai dal santan tumHrai gaahi-o.
O’ God, with the help of Your saints, I have overwhelmed the gang of vices.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ (ਸੰਗਤ ਦੀ) ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਟੇਕ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਆਹਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tumree tayk bharosaa thaakur saran tumHaaree aahi-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ the Master-God, I lean only on Your support and I have my faith only in You, and it is only Your refuge that I seek. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ (ਹੀ) ਭਰੋਸਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਲੋੜਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਮਹਾ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਟਿ ਮਿਟਾਹਿਓ ॥
janam janam kay mahaa paraachhat darsan bhayt mitaa-i-o.
O’ God, those who seek Your support, eradicate the loads of the sins of their countless lifetimes by experiencing Your blessed vision;
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ), ਉਹ) ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਭਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਅਨਦ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਮਾਹਿਓ ॥੧॥
bha-i-o pargaas anad ujee-aaraa sahj samaaDh samaahi-o. ||1||
their minds get enlightened with spiritual wisdom and bliss, and they remain absorbed in deep trance in a state of spiritual poise. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਕਉਨੁ ਕਹੈ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਥਾਹਿਓ ॥
ka-un kahai tum tay kachh naahee tum samrath athaahi-o.
O’ God, who says that You cannot do anything, in fact You are the all powerful Master of unfathomable strength.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਕੌਣ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ? ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਅਥਾਹ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਰਸ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਿਓ ॥੨॥੭॥੨੬॥
kirpaa niDhaan rang roop ras naam naanak lai laahi-o. ||2||7||26||
O’ Nanak, say! O’ God, the treasure of mercy, whosoever has earned the profit of Your Name, feels as if he had the bliss, worldly love and pleasure. ||2||7||26||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਲਾਭ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਨੋ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਰਸ ਆਦਿ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਲੈ ਲਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੭॥੨੬॥

Raag Kaanraa, Fifth Guru:
ਬੂਡਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਧੀਰੈ ॥
boodat paraanee har jap Dheerai.
Even the one who is drowning in the worldly ocean of vices, finds courage to continue to cross it by lovingly remembering God,
(ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਰਿਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਣ ਲਈ) ਹੌਸਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਨਸੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪੀਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
binsai moh bharam dukh peerai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
because he is rid of the love for Maya, doubt, pain and sorrow. ||1||Pause||
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਿਮਰਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨਾ ॥
simra-o din rain gur kay charnaa.
Day and night, I lovingly remember the Guru’s teachings.
ਮੈਂ (ਭੀ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੇਖਉ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੧॥
jat kat paykha-o tumree sarnaa. ||1||
O’ God, wherever I look, I see only Your support. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਕਿਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
sant parsaad har kay gun gaa-i-aa.
By the Guru’s grace anyone who started singing praises of God:
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ,
ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥੮॥੨੭॥
gur bhaytat naanak sukh paa-i-aa. ||2||8||27||
O’ Nanak, has found inner peace by following the Guru’s teachings. ||2||8||27||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ॥੨॥੮॥੨੭॥

Raag Kaanraa, Fifth Guru:
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
simrat naam maneh sukh paa-ee-ai.
We can find inner peace by remembering God’s Name with adoration,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saaDh janaa mil har jas gaa-ee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
therefore, we should sing God’s praises by joining the saints. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸੇਰੋ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh ridai basayro.
O’ God, please bestow mercy and remain enshrined within my heart,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖ ,
ਚਰਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਮਾਥਾ ਮੇਰੋ ॥੧॥
charan santan kai maathaa mayro. ||1||
and I may remain in the humble service of the saints, as if my forehead is always on their feet. ||1||
ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੱਥਾ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਮਨਾਂ ॥
paarbarahm ka-o simrahu manaaN.
O’ my mind, keep remembering the supreme God with loving devotion.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁl
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਨਾਂ ॥੨॥੯॥੨੮॥
gurmukh naanak har jas sunaaN. ||2||9||28||
O’ Nanak, follow the Guru’s teachings and listen to God’s praises. ||2||9||28||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੨॥੯॥੨੮॥

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਰਸਨ ॥
mayray man pareet charan parabh parsan.
O’ my mind, those who have craving to realize God,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਛੁਹਣ ਲਈ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭੋਜਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੀ ਅਖੀਅਨ ਕਉ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rasnaa har har bhojan tariptaanee akhee-an ka-o santokh parabh darsan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
their tongue is fully satiated with God’s Name, the spiritual food, and their eyes remain soothed by the blessed vision of God. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਠੰਢ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਨਨਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਜਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਲਮਲ ਦੋਖ ਸਗਲ ਮਲ ਹਰਸਨ ॥
karnan poor rahi-o jas pareetam kalmal dokh sagal mal harsan.
O’ my mind, their ears remain filled with God’s praise, which destroys the filth of sins and all vices.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਐਬਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਵਨ ਧਾਵਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੁਖ ਪੰਥਾ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਕਾਇਆ ਸੰਤ ਸਰਸਨ ॥੧॥
paavan Dhaavan su-aamee sukh panthaa ang sang kaa-i-aa sant sarsan. ||1||
Their feet walk on the blissful path towards the Master-God and their bodies blossom in the company of saints. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਦੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨਾਲ (ਛੁਹ ਕੇ) ਹੁਲਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸਰਨਿ ਗਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਆਨ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਕਿਤ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਸਨ ॥
saran gahee pooran abhinaasee aan upaav thakit nahee karsan.
O’ my mind, those who have taken refuge in the all pervading, eternal God, they don’t exhaust themselves in making efforts for any other support.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਫੜ ਲਈ, ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਹੀਲੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਥੱਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ।
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਅਪਨੇ ਅੰਧ ਘੋਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਸਨ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੨੯॥
kar geh lee-ay naanak jan apnay anDh ghor saagar nahee marsan. ||2||10||29||
O’ Nanak, the devotees whom God has accepted as His own, do not suffer spiritual deterioration in the pitch dark worldly ocean of vices. ||2||10||29||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਹੇੜਦੇ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੨੯॥

ਕੁਹਕਤ ਕਪਟ ਖਪਟ ਖਲ ਗਰਜਤ ਮਰਜਤ ਮੀਚੁ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kuhkat kapat khapat khal garjat marjat meech anik baree-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Those within whom rage the hypocritical and destructive demonic tendencies, suffer humiliating spiritual deterioration many times over. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਖੋਟ ਭੜਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਗੱਜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮੌਤ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਮਾਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਹੰ ਮਤ ਅਨ ਰਤ ਕੁਮਿਤ ਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪੇਖਤ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਲਾਖ ਗਰੀਆ ॥੧॥
ahaN mat an rat kumit hit pareetam paykhat bharmat laakh garee-aa. ||1||
Intoxicated with ego, such people remain imbued with other relishes, befriend with false and evil minded people, they see and wander in millions of places filled with lust and sins. ||1||
ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਮੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ (ਰਸਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਖੋਟੇ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਖੋਟਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਗਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਝਾਕਦੇ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਅਨਿਤ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਅਚਾਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਹੀਨਤ ਮਮ ਮਦ ਮਾਤ ਕੋਪ ਜਰੀਆ ॥
anit bi-uhaar achaar biDh heenat mam mad maat kop jaree-aa.
Such people remain engaged in dealing with short lived things, their conduct in life is worthless and intoxicated with the love for Maya they keep burning in the fire of anger.
(ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰੁੱਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਚੰਗੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮਾਨ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤੇ ਹੀ ਹਾਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jee-a paraan maan daataa. har bisratay hee haan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God is the benefactor of the soul, the breath of life and honor, forsaking whom one suffers spiritual deterioration in life. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਦਿਆਂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਘਾਟਾ ਹੀ ਘਾਟਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਆਨ ਲਾਗਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੋ ਡਾਰਿ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਾਗਹਿ ॥

Forsaking God, you remain attached to other worldly things, you are wasting the precious life, as if you are spilling the ambrosial nectar of Naam in dirt:
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਡੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਟ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਸਿਉ ਆਸਕਤ ਮੂੜੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਨਿ ॥੧॥
bikhai ras si-o aaskat moorhay kaahay sukh maan. ||1||
O fool, how can you enjoy spiritual bliss when you are madly in love with vicious worldly relishes? ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ॥੧॥
