Raag Malaar, Fifth Guru:
ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਲਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hay gobind hay gopaal hay da-i-aal laal. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ the Master of the earth, Caretaker of the universe, and the beloved merciful God, ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ਸਖੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
paraan naath anaath sakhay deen darad nivaar. ||1||
You are the sustainer of our life-breath, the companion of the destitude and the destroyer of pains of the poor. ||1||
ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਨਿਖਸਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਈ! ਹੇ ਗ਼ਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਸਮ੍ਰਥ ਅਗਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
hay samrath agam pooran mohi ma-i-aa Dhaar. ||2||
O’ the omnipotent, inaccessible, all-pervading Master, please bestow mercy on me.||2||
ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ! ॥੨॥
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰ ॥੩॥੮॥੩੦॥
anDh koop mahaa bha-i-aan naanak paar utaar. ||3||8||30||
O’ Nanak, this world is like a very frightening pit in which there is pitch darkness of worldly attachments; please pull me out of this pit.||3||8||30||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ) ਬੜਾ ਡਰਾਉਣਾ ਖੂਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ ॥੩॥੮॥੩੦॥

ਰਾਗ ਮਲਾਰ, ਘਰ ੧ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਅੱਠ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚਕਵੀ ਨੈਨ ਨੀਦ ਨਹਿ ਚਾਹੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
chakvee nain neeNd neh chaahai bin pir neeNd na paa-ee.
All night the chakvi, a bird, does not like the sleep in its eyes because without its partner it cannot sleep.
ਚਕਵੀ (ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਚਕਵੇ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੌ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨੀਂਦ ਦਾ ਆਉਣਾ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ।
ਸੂਰੁ ਚਰ੍ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਦੇਖੈ ਨੈਨੀ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਾਂਈ ॥੧॥
soor charHai pari-o daykhai nainee niv niv laagai paaN-ee. ||1||
Chakvi is happy when at sun rises, sees her partner, similarly the devotees feel happy and respectfully bow to the Guru when they see him. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਚਕਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਚਕਵੇ) ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖਦੀ ਹੈ, ਲਿਫ ਲਿਫ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
pir bhaavai paraym sakhaa-ee.
O’ my friends, the love of my beloved God is dear to me.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨਹੀ ਜਗਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਐਸੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਤਿਸਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis bin gharhee nahee jag jeevaa aisee pi-aas tisaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I have such an intense longing for Him, that I cannot live even for a moment without Him in this world. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਇਤਨੀ ਤੀਬਰ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭੀ ਜੀਊ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਰਵਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥
sarvar kamal kiran aakaasee bigsai sahj subhaa-ee.
Although the lotus flower is in the pool and the sun’s rays are (still) in the sky, yet the lotus flower blooms naturally as soon as it sees the sun rays.
ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੂਰਜ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਨ ਆਕਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਕਿਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ) ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਨੀ ਅਭ ਐਸੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
pareetam pareet banee abh aisee jotee jot milaa-ee. ||2||
Similarly a devotee of God is so much imbued with his love for God’s Name that his soul merges with the Supreme soul ||2||
(ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੀ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਟੇਰੈ ਬਿਲਪ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਈ ॥
chaatrik jal bin pari-o pari-o tayrai bilap karai billaa-ee.
Without getting rain drops of water, a rain-bird wails, similarly a devotee laments for the beloved God again and again.
(ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤੀ ਨਛੱਤ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਦੇ) ਜਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਪੀਹਾ ‘ਪ੍ਰਿਉ, ਪ੍ਰਿਉ’ ਕੂਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਰਲੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਘਨਹਰ ਘੋਰ ਦਸੌ ਦਿਸਿ ਬਰਸੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
ghanhar ghor dasou dis barsai bin jal pi-aas na jaa-ee. ||3||
The dark clouds thunder and rain everywhere, the thirst of the rain-bird is not quenched without the special drop, similarly the thirst of the devotee for Naam is not quenched without the Guru’s ambrosial word. ||3||
ਬੱਦਲ ਗੱਜ ਕੇ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਵਰ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਪਪੀਹੇ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ॥੩॥
ਮੀਨ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਲ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
meen nivaas upjai jal hee tay sukh dukh purab kamaa-ee.
A fish is born in water and lives in water; it endures life’s pains and pleasures in accordance with its destiny based on its past deeds.
ਮੱਛੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪੂਰਬਲੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਖਿਨੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਪਲੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਨੁ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਾਂਈ ॥੪॥
khin til reh na sakai pal jal bin maran jeevan tis taaN-ee. ||4||
Without water it cannot remain alive even for a moment; its entire life from birth to death is possible only in the water. ||4||
ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਭਰ ਤਿਲ ਭਰ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਜੀਊ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਰਨ ਜੀਊਣ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਵਸੇਬਾ) ਉਸ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਸੰਭਵ) ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਧਨ ਵਾਂਢੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਦੇਸ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਠਾਈ ॥
Dhan vaaNdhee pir days nivaasee sachay gur peh sabad pathaa-eeN.
A human-being remains separated from Master-God, even though He dwells in his heart until he expresses his love for Him through the Guru’s word,
ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਸਨੇਹਾ ਭੇਜਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੀ ਹਰਖਾਈ ॥੫॥
gun sangrahi parabh ridai nivaasee bhagat ratee harkhaa-ee. ||5||
and amasses divine virtues; then God manifests in his heart and he feels blissful by imbuing himself with His devotional worship. ||5||
ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਕਰੈ ਸਭੈ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪਾਈ ॥
pari-o pari-o karai sabhai hai jaytee gur bhaavai pari-o paa-eeN.
Even though the entire world yearns to unite with God, but only that human being realizes Him who is pleasing to the Guru.
ਜਿਤਨੀ ਵੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਹੈ, ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਨਾਲੇ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚਿ ਸੰਗੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੬॥
pari-o naalay sad hee sach sangay nadree mayl milaa-ee. ||6||
The Master-God is always with everyone, but the one who follows the righteous living, God unites him with Himself by uniting him with the Guru’s word. ||6||
ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਚ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਜੀਉ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
sabh meh jee-o jee-o hai so-ee ghat ghat rahi-aa samaa-ee.
In everyone is the life given by the same God, the same God is the support of every life and the same God is pervading each and every heart.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਰੁਮਕ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੭॥
gur parsaad ghar hee pargaasi-aa sehjay sahj samaa-ee. ||7||
By the grace of the Guru, that human being in whose heart God becomes manifest, remains intuitively merged in a state of spiritual poise.||7||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਅਪਨਾ ਕਾਜੁ ਸਵਾਰਹੁ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਗੋਸਾਂਈ ॥
apnaa kaaj savaarahu aapay sukh-daatay gosaaN-eeN.
O’ the bliss-giving God of the universe, please (inspire us to remember You) and accomplish Your own task of uniting us with You.
ਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ( ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ, ਇਸ) ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਿਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਪਤਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੮॥੧॥
gur parsaad ghar hee pir paa-i-aa ta-o naanak tapat bujhaa-ee. ||8||1||
O’ Nanak, by the Guru’s grace, when a human being realizes God in his heart, the fire of his yearning for Maya gets extinguished. ||8||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਸੜਨ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥

Raag Malaar, First Guru:
ਜਾਗਤੁ ਜਾਗਿ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਮੈ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jaagat jaag rahai gur sayvaa bin har mai ko naahee.
By following the Guru’s teachings, one who remains alert and aware of the onslaught of Maya, he realizes that this body of mine is nothing without God;
ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੱਤਪਰ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਮਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ;
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਆਚੁ ਕਾਚੁ ਢਰਿ ਪਾਂਹੀ ॥੧॥
anik jatan kar rahan na paavai aach kaach dhar paaNhee. ||1||
despite all efforts, the body cannot remain intact when the soul leaves the body, it crumbles and becomes dust just like the glass melts down in fire. ||1||
(ਜਦੋਂ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੱਗ ਦਾ ਸੇਕ ਕੱਚ ਨੂੰ ਢਾਲ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਜੋਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਕਾ ਕਹਹੁ ਗਰਬੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥
is tan Dhan kaa kahhu garab kaisaa.
O’ brother, tell me, why should one be egotistically proud of this body and worldly wealth?
ਹੇ ਝੱਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ! ਦੱਸ, ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਇਸ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ?
ਬਿਨਸਤ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਵਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬਿ ਖਪੈ ਜਗੁ ਐਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
binsat baar na laagai bavray ha-umai garab khapai jag aisaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ fool, all these can perish in no time; but this is how the entire world remains tormented by false ego and pride of worldly possessions. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਚਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ। ਜਗਤ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ (ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ (ਧਨ ਦੇ)ਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਪਰਖੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
jai jagdees parabhoo rakhvaaray raakhai parkhai so-ee.
Hail to God, the master and savior of all and who protects the mortals from vices and examines the deeds done in life.
ਜੈ ਹੋਵੇ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਾਤਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
jaytee hai taytee tujh hee tay tumH sar avar na ko-ee. ||2||
O’ God, the entire creation begs everything from You; there is no other benefactor like You. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ (ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਮੰਗਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਜਨੁ ॥
jee-a upaa-ay jugat vas keenee aapay gurmukh anjan.
After creating the beings, God has kept the way of their life under His control, and He Himself imparts them wisdom about righteous living through the Guru.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਸਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ) ਸੁਰਮਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਮਰੁ ਅਨਾਥ ਸਰਬ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੋਰਾ ਕਾਲ ਬਿਕਾਲ ਭਰਮ ਭੈ ਖੰਜਨੁ ॥੩॥
amar anaath sarab sir moraa kaal bikaal bharam bhai khanjan. ||3||
God is eternal, no one is above Him; He is the supreme Master, the destroyer of the cycle of birth and death, doubts and dread. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਖਸਮ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਰੋਮਣੀ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੇ ਡਰ-ਸਹਿਮ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
