Raag Malaar, Fifth Guru:
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਛਲੁ ਬਿਰਦਾਇਓ ॥
parabh ko bhagat bachhal birdaari-o.
To love His devotional worship is the innate nature of God.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ (ਹੈ-ਇਹ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ।
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਮਾਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਤਲ ਦੀਨੇ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਜਸੁ ਵਰਤਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nindak maar charan tal deenay apuno jas vartaa-i-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God keeps the slanderers of His devotees spiritually devoid and so disgraced as if they were trampled, and spreads His glory in the world. ||1||Pause||
(ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਹੇਠ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਦਇਆ ਜੀਅਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
jai jai kaar keeno sabh jag meh da-i-aa jee-an meh paa-i-o.
God makes His devotees glorious throughout the world, and instills love and respect for them in the hearts of all His beings.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੋਭਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ) ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਆਦਰ-ਸਤਕਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਦਾਸੁ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਤਾਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਲਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
kanth laa-ay apuno daas raakhi-o taatee vaa-o na laa-i-o. ||1||
God keeps His devotee very close to Him and does not let even the slightest harm come to him. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਤੀ ਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ (ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਔਖਿਆਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ) ॥੧॥
ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਮੇਟਿ ਸੁਖਾਇਓ ॥
angeekaar kee-o mayray su-aamee bharam bha-o mayt sukhaa-i-o.
My Master-God has always protected the devotees, dispelling their dread and doubt and blesses them with inner peace.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ) ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ (ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੇ ਡਰ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਾਸ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਆਇਓ ॥੨॥੧੪॥੧੮॥
mahaa anand karahu daas har kay naanak bisvaas man aa-i-o. ||2||14||18||
O’ Nanak, the devotees have developed such confidence in their minds that, with devotion to God’s Name, they enjoy supreme spiritual bliss. ||2||14||18||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ! ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣ ਚੁਕੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਹੁ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ-ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥੧੪॥੧੮॥

Raag Malaar, Fifth Guru, Chau-Padas, Second Beat:
ਰਾਗ ਮਲਾਰ, ਘਰ ੨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਚਾਰ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੀਸੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੁ ॥
gurmukh deesai barahm pasaar.
O’ my friends, by following the Guru’s teachings, one realizes that the entire universe is the expanse of the all-pervading God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣੀਆਂ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥
gurmukh tarai gunee-aaN bisthaar.
Through the Guru’s teachings, one also comes to know that this world is the extension of three attributes of Maya (vice, virtue, and power).
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਇਹ ਭੀ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gurmukh naad bayd beechaar.
It is through the Guru’s teachings that we attain knowledge about the Naad (the music of yogis and holy scriptures such as Vedas.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾ ਦੇ ਮਤਲਬ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
bin gur pooray ghor anDhaar. ||1||
But without following the Guru’s teachings, there remains pitch darkness in one’s spiritual life. ||1||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ (ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
mayray man gur gur karat sadaa sukh paa-ee-ai.
O’ my mind, by remembering the Guru’s teachings at all times, one can always enjoy spiritual bliss.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਓ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur updays har hirdai vasi-o saas giraas apnaa khasam Dhi-aa-ee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God manifests in one’s heart by following the Guru’s teachings, we should lovingly remember God with every breath and morsel of food. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ ਗਿਰਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
gur kay charan vitahu bal jaa-o.
O’ my friends, I am dedicated to the teachings of the Guru,
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਉ ॥
gur kay gun an-din nit gaa-o.
I always sing the praises of the Guru.
ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਕਰਉ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
gur kee Dhoorh kara-o isnaan.
I humbly listen to and follow the teachings of the Guru.
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
saachee dargeh paa-ee-ai maan. ||2||
We receive honor in God’s presence only through the Guru’s grace. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
gur bohith bhavjal taaranhaar.
Guru is like a ship which can ferry us across the dreadful worldly-ocean.
ਗੁਰੂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਜੋਨਿ ਅਉਤਾਰੁ ॥
gur bhayti-ai na ho-ay jon a-utaar.
If we meet the Guru and follow his teachings, then one does not go through the incarnations any more.
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਨਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur kee sayvaa so jan paa-ay.
But that person alone gets the opportunity of following the Guru’s teachings,
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (ਦਾ ਅਵਸਰ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਆਏ ॥੩॥
jaa ka-o karam likhi-aa Dhur aa-ay. ||3||
in whose destiny this blessing has been so preordained. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਇਹ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
gur mayree jeevan gur aaDhaar.
Guru’s Divine word is my life and my mainstay.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਹੀ) ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਵਰਤਣਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ॥
gur mayree vartan gur parvaar.
Guru is my sustenance, and Guru is my family and constant support.
ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਢਾਰਸ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
gur mayraa khasam satgur sarnaa-ee.
Guru is my Master, and I always seek refuge in the Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੯॥
naanak gur paarbarahm jaa kee keem na paa-ee. ||4||1||19||
O’ Nanak, Guru is the manifestation of the supreme God whose worth is beyond comprehension. ||4||1||19||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੯॥

Raag Malaar, Fifth Guru:
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
gur kay charan hirdai vasaa-ay.
O’ my friends, a devotee of God continues to enshrine the Guru’s teachings in his heart.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh aap milaa-ay.
Bestowing mercy, God Himself unites one with the Guru.
(ਇਹ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
apnay sayvak ka-o la-ay parabh laa-ay.
God keeps His devotee focused on His immaculate Name.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ (ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
taa kee keemat kahee na jaa-ay. ||1||
The greatness of God cannot be described. ||1||
ਉਸ (ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ) ਵਡੱਪਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ॥
kar kirpaa pooran sukh-daatay.
O’ the omnipresent God, the giver of peace, please bestow mercy,
ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸ).
ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਤੇਰੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tumHree kirpaa tay tooN chit aavahi aath pahar tayrai rang raatay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
those in whose mind You manifest through Your mercy, they always remain imbued with Your love. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ) ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗਾਵਣੁ ਸੁਨਣੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
gaavan sunan sabh tayraa bhaanaa.
O’ God, it is only at Your will that we may sing or listen to Your praises.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਗਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
hukam boojhai so saach samaanaa.
One who understands Your will remains merged in Your eternal Name.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਂਉ ॥
jap jap jeeveh tayraa naaN-o.
O’ God, Your devotees remain spiritually alive by remembering Your Name with love and devotion.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ) ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਥਾਉ ॥੨॥
tujh bin doojaa naahee thaa-o. ||2||
For them, there is no support other than You. ||2||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਤੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
dukh sukh kartay hukam rajaa-ay.
It is the will and command of the Creator that the mortals are showered sometimes with sorrows and other times with worldly pleasures.
ਇਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ (ਕਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ (ਕਦੇ) ਸੁਖ (ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਭਾਣੈ ਬਖਸ ਭਾਣੈ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
bhaanai bakhas bhaanai day-ay sajaa-ay.
By Your will, You forgive some and award punishments on others (as per their deeds).
ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ (ਕਿਸੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ (ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਹਾਂ ਸਿਰਿਆਂ ਕਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ॥
duhaaN siri-aaN kaa kartaa aap.
Creator Himself is the master of both, here and hereafter.
ਦੋਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਜਾਂਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥੩॥
kurbaan jaaN-ee tayray partaap. ||3||
O’ God, I am dedicated to Your great glory. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ (ਇਤਨੇ ਵੱਡੇ) ਪਰਤਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ॥
tayree keemat toohai jaaneh.
You alone know the worth of Your greatness.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੂੰ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ-ਆਪਣੀ ਇਹ) ਕੀਮਤ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ॥
too aapay boojheh sun aap vakaaneh.
You alone understand Your will; also, You listen to Your own command and describe it.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸੇਈ ਭਗਤ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
say-ee bhagat jo tuDh bhaanay.
O’ God, only those are Your true devotees who are pleasing to You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ (ਅਸਲ) ਭਗਤ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
