ਪੂਛਉ ਪੂਛਉ ਦੀਨ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਊ ਕਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਦੇਸਾਂਗਿਓ ॥
poochha-o poochha-o deen bhaaNt kar ko-oo kahai pari-a daysaaNgi-o.
Like a humble person, I keep asking and hoping if someone can tell me about the place where my beloved lives.
ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਪੁੱਛਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਭਲਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਾ ਦੇਸ ਦੱਸ ਦੇਵੇ।
ਹੀਂਓੁ ਦੇਂਉ ਸਭੁ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਸੀਸੁ ਚਰਣ ਪਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ॥੨॥
heeN-o dayN-u sabh man tan arpa-o sees charan par raakhi-o. ||2||
Very respectfully, I would surrender my heart and offer my mind and body and everything to that person. ||2||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ, ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਚਰਣ ਬੰਦਨਾ ਅਮੋਲ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਦੇਂਉ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਅਰਦਾਗਿਓ ॥
charan bandnaa amol daasro dayN-u saaDhsangat ardaagi-o.
I bow before the holy congregation and pray that I am at your service for gratis,
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਦਾ ਦੰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ-
ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖਾਗਿਓ ॥੩॥
karahu kirpaa mohi parabhoo milaavhu nimakh daras paykhaagi-o. ||3||
bestow mercy and unite me with God, so that I may experience His blessed vision just for a moment. ||3||
(ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੋ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਉ, ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਲਵਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਭਈ ਤਬ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਆਇਓ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੀਤਲਾਗਿਓ ॥
darisat bha-ee tab bheetar aa-i-o mayraa man an-din seetlaagi-o.
When God’s gracious glance fell on me, He manifested in my heart and now my mind remains calm and peaceful.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਹੋਈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ। ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਸਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਏ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਬਾਜਿਓ ॥੪॥੫॥
kaho naanak ras mangal gaa-ay sabad anaahad baaji-o. ||4||5||
O’ Nanak! say, now I sing the songs of His praises with Joy and I feel as if a non stop divine melody is playing within me. ||4||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖ- ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਮਾਈ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਾਧਾ ॥
maa-ee sat sat sat har sat sat sat saaDhaa.
O’ mother, God is eternal, and immortal are His saints,
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਭੀ ਅਟੱਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ-
ਬਚਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੋ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਹਿਓ ਮੈ ਛੀਕਿ ਗਾਂਠਰੀ ਬਾਧਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bachan guroo jo poorai kahi-o mai chheek gaaNthree baaDhaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
this is the word which the perfect Guru has spoken and I have firmly enshrined it in my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਬਚਨ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਘੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਨਖਿਅਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਵਿ ਸਸੀਅਰ ਬੇਨਾਧਾ ॥
nis baasur nakhi-atar binaasee rav sasee-ar baynaaDhaa.
The nights, the days, the stars, the sun and the moon would vanish.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਰਾਤ, ਦਿਨ, ਤਾਰੇ, ਸੂਰਜ, ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ l
ਗਿਰਿ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਜਲ ਪਵਨ ਜਾਇਗੋ ਇਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਬਚਨ ਅਟਲਾਧਾ ॥੧॥
gir basuDhaa jal pavan jaa-igo ik saaDh bachan atlaaDhaa. ||1||
The mountains, the earth, the water and the air would pass away, but only the divine word of the Guru are infallible. ||1||
ਪਹਾੜ, ਧਰਤੀ, ਪਾਣੀ, ਹਵਾ-ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਹੀ ਕਦੇ ਟਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੧॥
ਅੰਡ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਜੇਰ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਸੇਤ ਬਿਨਾਧਾ ॥
and binaasee jayr binaasee ut-bhuj sayt binaaDhaa.
Those born of eggs shall pass away, those born of the womb shall perish and those born of the earth and sweat shall pass away as well.
ਆਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਜੰਮੇਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਜੋਰ ਤੋਂ ਜੰਮੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਤੇ ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਉਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਚਾਰਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਖਟਹਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਇਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਬਚਨ ਨਿਹਚਲਾਧਾ ॥੨॥
chaar binaasee khateh binaasee ik saaDh bachan nihchalaaDhaa. ||2||
The four Vedas shall pass away, the six Shaastras shall pass away. but the Guru’s divine words are eternal. ||2||
ਚਾਰ ਵੇਦ, ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ-ਇਹ ਭੀ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ। ॥੨॥
ਰਾਜ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਤਾਮ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਸਾਤਕੁ ਭੀ ਬੇਨਾਧਾ ॥
raaj binaasee taam binaasee saatak bhee baynaaDhaa.
The virtue, vice, and power (three modes of Maya) would vanish.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣ) ਰਾਜਸ ਤਾਮਸ ਸਾਤਕ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ।
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਮਾਨ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਇਕਿ ਸਾਧ ਬਚਨ ਆਗਾਧਾ ॥੩॥
daristimaan hai sagal binaasee ik saaDh bachan aagaaDhaa. ||3||
All that is visible would perish, but only the Guru’s words are eternal. ||3||
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ (ਇਹ ਜਗਤ) ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਰਾ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਹੀ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਅਟੱਲ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪੇ ਸਭੁ ਆਪਨ ਖੇਲੁ ਦਿਖਾਧਾ ॥
aapay aap aap hee aapay sabh aapan khayl dikhaaDhaa.
God alone is like Himself who Himself shows this play of the world
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵਰਗਾ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਗਤ- ਵਿਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਾਇਓ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਕਹੀ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਲਾਧਾ ॥੪॥੬॥
paa-i-o na jaa-ee kahee bhaaNt ray parabh naanak gur mil laaDhaa. ||4||6||
O’ brother! God cannot be realized by any other way: O’ Nanak! God can be realized by meeting and following the Guru’s teachings. ||4||6||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹੀ) ਲੱਭ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥

Raag Sarang, Fifth Guru:
ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਾਸਿਬੋ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
mayrai man baasibo gur gobind.
The Divine Guru is enshrined in my mind.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਹਾਂ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਭਇਓ ਹੈ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤਹਾਂ ਨਗਰ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jahaaN simran bha-i-o hai thaakur tahaaN nagar sukh aanand. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Inner peace and bliss is always there in those minds in which God is remembered with adoration. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿੱਥੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਨਗਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਹਾਂ ਬੀਸਰੈ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਤਹਾਂ ਦੂਖ ਸਭ ਆਪਦ ॥
jahaaN beesrai thaakur pi-aaro tahaaN dookh sabh aapad.
The miseries and calamities prevail in the hearts from which God is forgotten,
ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਆਈਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਜਹ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਤਹਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਦ ॥੧॥
jah gun gaa-ay aanand mangal roop tahaaN sadaa sukh sampad. ||1||
Where there is singing praises of God, the bestower of bliss and joy, the eternal peace and spiritual wealth are always there. ||1||
ਜਿੱਥੇ (ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਨੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਉਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਹਾ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਨ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਤਹ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ਉਦਿਆਨਦ ॥
jahaa sarvan har kathaa na sunee-ai tah mahaa bha-i-aan udi-aanad.
Where people don’t hear God’s praises with their ears, their heart is like the utterly desolate wilderness.
ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਉਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਭਾਰਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਜੰਗਲ ਬਣਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ;
ਜਹਾਂ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਤਹ ਸਘਨ ਬਾਸ ਫਲਾਂਨਦ ॥੨॥
jahaaN keertan saaDhsangat ras tah saghan baas falaaNnad. ||2||
The holy congregation, where the Divine words of God’s Praise are sung with love, is like a garden with an intense fragrance and joy of fruits. ||2||
ਤੇ, ਜਿਥੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੰਗ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉੱਥੇ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਐਸਾ ਬਾਗ਼ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ) ਸੰਘਣੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਬਰਖ ਜੀਵੈ ਸਗਲੀ ਅਉਧ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾਨਦ ॥
bin simran kot barakh jeevai saglee a-oDh barithaanad.
Without lovingly remembering God, even if one lives for millions of years, all that life is total waste.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਭੀ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ, (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਏਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਤਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜੀਵਾਨਦ ॥੩॥
ayk nimakh gobind bhajan kar ta-o sadaa sadaa jeevaanad. ||3||
But if one sincerely remembers God even for a moment, then that person remains spiritually blissful forever. ||3||
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਰਨਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਵਉ ਦੀਜੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਿਰਪਾਨਦ ॥
saran saran saran parabh paava-o deejai saaDhsangat kirpaanad.
O’ God, bestow mercy and bless me with the company of saints, so that I may always remain in Your refuge.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ (ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ (ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਹੈ ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਸਗਲ ਗੁਣਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਂਨਦ ॥੪॥੭॥
naanak poor rahi-o hai sarab mai sagal gunaa biDh jaaNnad. ||4||7||
O’ Nanak, God is pervading all and He Himself knows the way to instill all kind of virtues in people. ||4||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਢੰਗ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥

ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਭਰੋਸਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
ab mohi raam bharosa-o paa-ay.
Now I have developed this firm faith in God,
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਬਾਬਤ ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਕਰੁਣਾਨਿਧਿ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਭਵਹਿ ਤਰਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo jo saran pari-o karunaaniDh tay tay bhaveh taraa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that whosoever seeks the refuge of God, the treasure of mercy, He ferries them across the world-ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਰਸ-ਦੇ-ਖਜਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਾਗਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੁਖਿ ਸੋਇਓ ਅਰੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਓ ਸਹਸਾ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
sukh so-i-o ar sahj samaa-i-o sahsaa gureh gavaa-ay.
One who seeks God’s refuge, he remains absorbed in spiritual bliss and poise, and the Guru eradicates his cynicism and doubt.
(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਚਾਹਤ ਸੋਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਓ ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
jo chaahat so-ee har kee-o man baaNchhat fal paa-ay. ||1||
Whatever he wishes for, God does that for him and he attains the fruits of his mind’s desires. ||1||
ਉਹ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਪਉ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਲਾਵਉ ਸ੍ਰਵਨੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥
hirdai japa-o naytar Dhi-aan laava-o sarvanee kathaa sunaa-ay.
Now I lovingly remember God in my heart, I focus my eyes on Him and listen to His praises with my ears,
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
