ਤੂ ਵਡ ਦਾਤਾ ਤੂ ਵਡ ਦਾਨਾ ਅਉਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
too vad daataa too vad daanaa a-or nahee ko doojaa.
O’ God! You are the most beneficent giver, and You are the most wise; there is none other like You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਸਭ ਤੋਂ) ਵੱਡਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਸਭ ਤੋਂ) ਵੱਡਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਪੂਜਾ ॥੩॥
too samrath su-aamee mayraa ha-o ki-aa jaanaa tayree poojaa. ||3||
You are my all powerful Master, I do not know how to worship You? ||3||
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈਂ, ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈਂ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ? ॥੩॥
ਤੇਰਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੈ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
tayraa mahal agochar mayray pi-aaray bikham tayraa hai bhaanaa.
O’ my beloved God, where You dwell is beyond our comprehension, and it is very difficult to accept Your will.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਬੜਾ ਔਖਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਢਹਿ ਪਇਆ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਣਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੨੦॥
kaho naanak dheh pa-i-aa du-aarai rakh layvhu mugaDh ajaanaa. ||4||2||20||
O’ Nanak, say, O’ God! I have come to Your refuge, please save me, the spiritually ignorant fool. ||4||2||20||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਆਖ , ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੨੦॥

ਮੂਲੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਬਿਆਪੀ ਅਹੰ ਮਨੀ ॥੧॥
mool na boojhai aap na soojhai bharam bi-aapee ahaN manee. ||1||
Being engrossed in doubt and egotism, a human being does not realize the primal God, and also does not understand his own self. ||1|
ਸੰਦੇਹ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਖਚਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂਲੁ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਪਿਤਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਨੀ ॥
pitaa paarbarahm parabh Dhanee.
O’ my Father, the supreme God, O’ my Master-God,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਹੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mohi nistaarahu nirgunee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
please ferry me, the unvirtuous one, across the world ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਓਪਤਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਇਹ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੀ ॥੨॥
opat parla-o parabh tay hovai ih beechaaree har janee. ||2||
God’s devotees contemplate and understand that all the creation and destruction happens only by the command of God. ||2||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਹੀ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਉਤਪੱਤੀ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸੇ ਗਨੀ ॥੩॥
naam parabhoo kay jo rang raatay kal meh sukhee-ay say ganee. ||3||
Only those people enjoy the inner peace in kalyug who are imbued with the love of God’s Name. ||3||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੇਵਲ ਓਹੀ ਕਲਜੁਗ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਖੀ ਗਿਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਅਵਰੁ ਉਪਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ॥੪॥੩॥੨੧॥
avar upaa-o na ko-ee soojhai naanak taree-ai gur bachnee. ||4||3||21||
O’ Nanak, the world-ocean of vices can be crossed over by following the Guru’s word, there is no other way that comes to mind. ||4||3||21||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਹੀਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੨੧॥
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

Raag Basant Hindol, Ninth Guru:
ਸਾਧੋ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ॥
saaDho ih tan mithi-aa jaan-o.
O’ dear saints, realize that this body is false (perishable);
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਸਮਝੋ।
ਯਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜੋ ਰਾਮੁ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੋ ਤਾਹਿ ਪਛਾਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
yaa bheetar jo raam basat hai saacho taahi pachhaano. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God who dwells within it, understand that He alone is eternal. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਾਣੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਕੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਹਾ ਐਡਾਨੋ ॥
ih jag hai sampat supnay kee daykh kahaa aidaano.
This world is like that wealth which one finds in a dream (and disappears when the dream is over), then why do you feel arrogant seeing the worldly wealth?
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਉਸ ਧਨ-ਸਮਾਨ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਭ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਜਾਗਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) (ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਸੰਗਿ ਤਿਹਾਰੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਕਹਾ ਲਪਟਾਨੋ ॥੧॥
sang tihaarai kachhoo na chaalai taahi kahaa laptaano. ||1||
None of it shall go along with you in the end; why do you cling to it? ||1||
ਇਥੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ (ਅੰਤ ਸਮੇਂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ। ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ? ॥੧॥
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੋਊ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਉਰਿ ਆਨੋ ॥
ustat nindaa do-oo parhar har keerat ur aano.
Renounce both flattery and slander of others; enshrine within your heart only the praises of God.
ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ-ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਕੰਮ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਓ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਮੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਭਗਵਾਨੋ ॥੨॥੧॥
jan naanak sabh hee mai pooran ayk purakh bhagvaano. ||2||1||
O’ devotee Nanak, the all pervading perfect God is permeating in all. ||2||1||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥

Raag Basant, Ninth Guru:
ਪਾਪੀ ਹੀਐ ਮੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਬਸਾਇ ॥
paapee hee-ai mai kaam basaa-ay.
The heart of a sinner is filled with lust,
ਪਾਪੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਯਾ ਤੇ ਗਹਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man chanchal yaa tay gahi-o na jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that is why the fickle mind cannot be controlled. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਚੰਚਲ ਮਨ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਅਰੁ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ॥
jogee jangam ar sanni-aas.
Whether one is a yogi, wandering ascetic, or a renouncer,
ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ (ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਤਿਆਗ ਕਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ)-
ਸਭ ਹੀ ਪਰਿ ਡਾਰੀ ਇਹ ਫਾਸ ॥੧॥
sabh hee par daaree ih faas. ||1||
on all of them is cast the noose of lust. ||1||
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ) ਇਹ ਫਾਹੀ ਸੁੱਟੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਿਹਿ ਜਿਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿ ॥
jihi jihi har ko naam samHaar.
All those who have enshrined God’s Name in their heart,
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਤੇ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
tay bhav saagar utray paar. ||2||
they cross over the worldly ocean of vices. ||2||
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥
jan naanak har kee sarnaa-ay.
Devotee Nanak has come to the refuge of God,
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੩॥੨॥
deejai naam rahai gun gaa-ay. ||3||2||
O’ God! Please bestow on Your devotee the blessing of Your Name so that he may keep singing Your praises. ||3||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ ਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੩॥੨॥
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥

Raag Basant, Ninth Guru:
ਮਾਈ ਮੈ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
maa-ee mai Dhan paa-i-o har naam.
O’ my mother, I have received the wealth of God’s Name;
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਮਾਂ! ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਧਾਵਨ ਤੇ ਛੂਟਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਬੈਠੋ ਬਿਸਰਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man mayro Dhaavan tay chhooti-o kar baitho bisraam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
my mind has stopped wandering (after Maya) and now immersed in Naam, it remains in a state of peace. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਬਹਿ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਭਾਗੀ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
maa-i-aa mamtaa tan tay bhaagee upji-o nirmal gi-aan.
The love for materialism has vanished from my body (mind), and immaculate spiritual wisdom has welled up within it.
ਧਨ ਦੌਲਤ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਦੌੜ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਏਹ ਪਰਸਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਗਹੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੧॥
lobh moh ayh paras na saakai gahee bhagat bhagvaan. ||1||
I have enshrined the devotional worship of God in my heart and now the greed and worldly attachment cannot touch me. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਲੋਭ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੧॥
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਸੰਸਾ ਚੂਕਾ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਬ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
janam janam kaa sansaa chookaa ratan naam jab paa-i-aa.
Since the time I have attained the jewel like precious Naam, my dread of countless births has vanished.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਨਾਮ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਕਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਨਿਜ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
tarisnaa sakal binaasee man tay nij sukh maahi samaa-i-aa. ||2||
All the worldly desires have vanished from my mind, and now I remain merged in a state of everlasting spiritual bliss. ||2||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਸੋ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
jaa ka-o hot da-i-aal kirpaa niDh so gobind gun gaavai.
That person on whom God, the treasure of mercy, bestows compassion, he sings praises of the Master of the universe.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀ ਸੰਪੈ ਕੋਊ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥੩॥
kaho naanak ih biDh kee sampai ko-oo gurmukh paavai. ||3||3||
Nanak says, only a rare person follows the Guru’s teachings and receives this kind of wealth (of Naam). ||3||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਹੇ ਮਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੩॥

Raag Basant, Ninth Guru:
ਮਨ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
man kahaa bisaari-o raam naam.
O’ my mind, why have you forsaken God’s Name?
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੁਲਾਈ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਤਨੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਜਮ ਸਿਉ ਪਰੈ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan binsai jam si-o parai kaam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
When the body perishes, then (without the wealth of Naam) one has to deal with the demon of death? ||1||Pause||
(ਜਦੋਂ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਜਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਧੂਏ ਕਾ ਪਹਾਰ ॥
ih jag Dhoo-ay kaa pahaar.
O’ my mind, this world is like a hill of smoke (blown away by air in no time);
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ (ਤਾਂ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਧੂਏਂ ਦਾ ਪਹਾੜ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਵਾ ਦਾ ਇੱਕੋ ਬੁੱਲਾ ਉਡਾ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।
