ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਤਖਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਕੀਏ ॥
jin ka-o takhat milai vadi-aa-ee gurmukh say parDhaan kee-ay.
Those who are blessed with the glory of a seat on God’s throne (Realization of God), they are rendered supreme by the Guru’s grace.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਤੇ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਮੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਾਰਸੁ ਭੇਟਿ ਭਏ ਸੇ ਪਾਰਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਥੀਏ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨॥
paaras bhayt bha-ay say paaras naanak har gur sang thee-ay. ||4||4||12||
O’ Nanak, by meeting with the mythical stone-like Guru, they have become like him, and now their mind remains attuned to the Divine-Guru. ||4||4||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ-ਪਾਰਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਹਾ ਰੁਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਸਦ ਬਸੰਤੁ ॥
maahaa rutee meh sad basant.
O’ God, among all the months and seasons, You Yourself are the eternal delight,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਰੁੱਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ,
ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤੁ ॥
jit hari-aa sabh jee-a jant.
because of Your grace, all beings and creatures blossoms and alive.
ਜਿਸ (ਤੇਰੀ) ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਸਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਕਿਰਮ ਜੰਤੁ ॥
ki-aa ha-o aakhaa kiram jant.
What can a lowly person like me say about You?
ਮੈਂ ਤੁੱਛ ਜਿਹਾ ਜੀਵ ਕੀਹ ਆਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ?
ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੁ ॥੧॥
tayraa kinai na paa-i-aa aad ant. ||1||
When nobody has ever found the beginning or end of Your creation. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਢ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇਵ ॥
tai saahib kee karahi sayv.
O’ Master, those who lovingly remember You,
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
param sukh paavahi aatam dayv. ||1|| rahaa-o.
rejoice in supreme bliss: O’ the Enlightener of the soul. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇਵ! ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
karam hovai taaN sayvaa karai.
One lovingly remembers God only when he is blessed with His grace,
(ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ॥
gur parsaadee jeevat marai.
and by the Guru’s grace he remains free from the love of materialism and vices, as if he has died while still alive.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ , ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜੀ ਮਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥
an-din saach naam uchrai.
He always lovingly recites God’s eternal Name,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੈ ॥੨॥
in biDh paraanee dutar tarai. ||2||
and in this way, the mortal swims across the world-ocean of vices which is impossible to cross otherwise. ||2||
ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨਾਂ-ਤਰੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
bikh amrit kartaar upaa-ay.
The Creator-God Himself has created materialism, the poison for spiritual life, and the ambrosial nectar of Naam,
ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਇਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ,
ਸੰਸਾਰ ਬਿਰਖ ਕਉ ਦੁਇ ਫਲ ਲਾਏ ॥
sansaar birakh ka-o du-ay fal laa-ay.
and has laden the tree of the world with both these fruits.
ਜਗਤ-ਰੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਫਲ ਲਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aapay kartaa karay karaa-ay.
The Creator-God Himself does and gets everything done,
(ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਖਵਾਏ ॥੩॥
jo tis bhaavai tisai khavaa-ay. ||3||
and (based on one’s deeds) He gives a person with whatever fruit He likes him to have. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਫਲ ਖਵਾਣ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਖਵਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
naanak jis no nadar karay-i.
O’ Nanak, one upon whom God bestows His gracious glance,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
amrit naam aapay day-ay.
He Himself blesses that person with ambrosial nectar of His Name,
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
bikhi-aa kee baasnaa maneh karay-i.
and removes from his mind the desire for materialism, the poison for the spiritual life.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਰੋਕ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੪॥੧॥
apnaa bhaanaa aap karay-i. ||4||1||
God Himself carries out whatever pleases Him. ||4||1||
ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ (ਹੀ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Basant, Third Guru:
ਰਾਤੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥
raatay saach har naam nihaalaa.
O’ God, those who become imbued with Your eternal Name, remain delighted.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ-ਚਿੱਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
da-i-aa karahu parabh deen da-i-aalaa.
O’ merciful God and Master of the meek, please bestow mercy.
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼)।
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਮੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
tis bin avar nahee mai ko-ay.
Except You, I have nobody else as my own.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ।
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakhai so-ay. ||1||
He protects me according to His own will. ||1||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥
gur gopaal mayrai man bhaa-ay.
O’ my friends, Divine-Guru is pleasing to my mind,
ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
reh na saka-o darsan daykhay bin sahj mila-o gur mayl milaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I cannot live without experiencing His blessed vision; I unite with God only when the Guru brings about my union with Him. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਦਰਸਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧੀਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ)। (ਜਦੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤਦੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਿ ਲੁਭਾਨਾ ॥
ih man lobhee lobh lubhaanaa.
One whose mind is greedy and always remains entangled in greed,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਮਨ (ਸਦਾ) ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਾਮ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥
raam bisaar bahur pachhutaanaa.
he regrets and repents after forsaking God.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਹੱਥ ਮਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਛੁਰਤ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਰਾਂਗੇ ॥
bichhurat milaa-ay gur sayv raaNgay.
Those who are separated from God, the Guru unites them with Him when they follow the Guru’s teachings.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹਰਿ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ (ਮੁੜ) ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥੨॥
har naam dee-o mastak vadbhaagay. ||2||
To those fortunate persons, the Guru has blessed the gift of God’s Name. ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪਏ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੨॥
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਦੇਹ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
pa-un paanee kee ih dayh sareeraa.
O’ my friends, this body is made out of such elements as air and water.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ (ਆਦਿਕ ਤੱਤਾਂ) ਦਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਠਿਨ ਤਨਿ ਪੀਰਾ ॥
ha-umai rog kathin tan peeraa.
A person whose body is afflicted with the disease of ego, keeps enduring great pain of this disease.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਦੀ) ਕਰੜੀ ਪੀੜ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਰੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh raam naam daaroo gun gaa-i-aa.
God’s Name becomes the cure for the ego of that person who sings God’s praises by following the Guru’s teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਦਵਾਈ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
kar kirpaa gur rog gavaa-i-aa. ||3||
and bestowing mercy, the Guru has eradicated this malady. ||3||
ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੩॥
ਚਾਰਿ ਨਦੀਆ ਅਗਨੀ ਤਨਿ ਚਾਰੇ ॥
chaar nadee-aa agnee tan chaaray.
The four vices, (cruelty, worldly attachment, greed and anger) are like the four rivers of fire flowing in the human body.
(ਬੇ-ਰਹਿਮੀ, ਮੋਹ, ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ) ਚਾਰ ਬਦੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਾਰੇ ਅੱਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਿਆ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਜਲੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੇ ॥
tarisnaa jalat jalay ahaNkaaray.
Therefore people keep enduring the pain of worldly desires and arrogance.
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਤਾਰੇ ॥
gur raakhay vadbhaagee taaray.
Those fortunate ones whom the Guru has protected, got ferried across these four streams of vices by the Guru.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਦੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲਿਆ,
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥
jan naanak ur har amrit Dhaaray. ||4||2||
O’ Nanak, these devotees have enshrined the ambrosial nectar of God’s Name within their mind. ||4||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥੨॥

One who lovingly remembers God, is His true devotee.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ|
ਸਾਚੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
saach sahj kaday na hovai sog.
He always remains in a state of spiritual poise and never feels any sorrow.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਗ਼ਮ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
manmukh mu-ay naahee har man maahi.
But the self-willed persons remain spiritually dead because God is not enshrined within their mind.
ਪਰ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਭੀ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
mar mar jameh bhee mar jaahi. ||1||.
They spiritually die again and again and remain in the cycle of birth and death. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਸਹੇੜ ਕੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਜੀਵੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
say jan jeevay jin har man maahi.
Those who remember God in their mind are spiritually alive.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਹਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saach samHaalih saach samaahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
They lovingly remember God and ultimately merge in Him. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
har na sayveh tay har tay door.
Those who do not remember God, remain separated from Him.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦਿਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਵਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
disantar bhaveh sir paavahi Dhoor.
They wander around everywhere and keep enduring disgrace, as if they are letting dust fall all over their heads.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਨ ਲੀਏ ਲਾਇ ॥
har aapay jan lee-ay laa-ay.
God Himself unites his devotees with Himself,
ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
tin sadaa sukh hai til na tamaa-ay. ||2||
they always live in peace and don’t have even an iota of greed in them. ||2||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ॥੨॥
