ਗੁਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
gur sang dikhaa-i-o raam raa-ay. ||1||
The Guru has caused me to visualize God with me. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ| ॥੧॥
ਮਿਲੁ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਬਨੇ ॥
mil sakhee sahaylee har gun banay.
O’ my friends, it behooves us to join together and sing God’s praises.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਰਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣੇ ਹੀ ਫਬਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਖੇਲਹਿ ਵਰ ਕਾਮਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਤ ਮਨ ਮਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har parabh sang khayleh var kaaman gurmukh khojat man manay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The soul-brides who search their Husband-God through the Guru and then enjoy the bliiss of His company, their minds are appeased. ||1||Pause||
ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੇਹੜੀਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ) ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਦੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਭੇਉ ॥
manmukhee duhaagan naahi bhay-o.
The unfortunate self-willed soul-brides do not understand this secret,
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੁੱਝੀ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ,
ਓਹੁ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਸਰਬ ਪ੍ਰੇਉ ॥
oh ghat ghat raavai sarab paray-o.
that the beloved God of all, dwells in each and every heart.
ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਥਿਰੁ ਚੀਨੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਦੇਉ ॥
gurmukh thir cheenai sang day-o.
A soul-bride who follows the Guru’s word, firmly believes that the eternal God is always with her.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਜਪੁ ਜਪੇਉ ॥੨॥
gur naam drirh-aa-i-aa jap japay-o. ||2||
The Guru has instilled God’s Name in her and she keeps meditating on Him. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
bin gur bhagat na bhaa-o ho-ay.
O’ my friends, without following the Guru’s teachings, neither devotion, nor love for God wells up within.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤ ਨ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
bin gur sant na sang day-ay.
Without the Guru, God doesn’t bless one with the company of the saints.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਧੰਧੁ ਰੋਇ ॥
bin gur anDhulay DhanDh ro-ay.
Without following the Guru’s word, a person remains spiritually blind and keeps lamenting about worldly problems,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਖੋਇ ॥੩॥
man gurmukh nirmal mal sabad kho-ay. ||3||
But by reflecting on the Guru’s word, the mind loses its dirt of vices and becomes immaculate. ||3||
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥
gur man maari-o kar sanjog.
By uniting with God, one from whose mind the Guru has eradicated the love for worldly desires,
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸੰਜੋਗ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਰਾਵੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
ahinis raavay bhagat jog.
he revels in the devotional worship day and night.
ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਸਹਜ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੪॥੬॥
gur sant sabhaa dukh mitai rog.jan naanak har var sahj jog. ||4||6||
O’ Nanak, a person’s malady and pain (of ego) is eradicated in the company of the Guru and he intuitively achieves union with Husband-God. ||4||6||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੰਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਬੈਠਿਆਂ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥

Raag Basant, First Guru:
ਆਪੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਜਿ ॥
aapay kudrat karay saaj.
O’ my friends, God Himself fashions and creates the creation.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਚੁ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਬੇੜੇ ਰਾਜੁ ਰਾਜਿ ॥
sach aap nibayrhay raaj raaj.
Issuing His own commands, God Himself decides the fate of His creatures.
(ਇਸ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਚਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਫ਼ੈਸਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
gurmat ootam sang saath.
Those who are blessed with the sublime word of the Guru, realize that God is always around them.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਆਥਿ ॥੧॥
har naam rasaa-in sahj aath. ||1||
They intuitively receive the medicine of God’s Name. ||1||
ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਤ ਬਿਸਰਸਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਬੋਲਿ ॥
mat bisras ray man raam bol.
O’ my mind, keep uttering God’s Name, and don’t ever forget it.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬੋਲ। (ਵੇਖੀਂ) ਕਿਤੇ ਭੁਲਾ ਨਾ ਦੇਈਂ।
ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਤੁਲਾਏ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਤੋਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aprampar agam agochar gurmukh har aap tulaa-ay atul tol. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The infinite, incomprehensible and unfathomable God’s virtues are inestimable, He Himself lets these virtues be realized through the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੋਲ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੁੱਲ ਹੈ ( ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸਰੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਤੋਰ ॥
gur charan sarayveh gursikh tor.
O’ God, those disciples of the Guru who follow his teachings, become Your devotees.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਤਰੇ ਤਜਿ ਮੇਰ ਤੋਰ ॥
gur sayv taray taj mayr tor.
By following the Guru’s teachings, and forsaking the sense of discrimination between their own and others, they swim across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਲੋਭੀ ਮਨਿ ਕਠੋਰ ॥
nar nindak lobhee man kathor.
But those human beings who are slanderers and greedy, are stone-hearted.
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੋਂ ਕਠੋਰ ਹਨ|
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਭਾਈ ਸਿ ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ॥੨॥
gur sayv na bhaa-ee se chor chor. ||2||
They do not like the Guru’s teachings, and are the biggest thieves of all. ||2||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਉਹ ਮਹਾਂ ਚੋਰ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਬਖਸੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਉ ॥
gur tuthaa bakhsay bhagat bhaa-o.
Those on whom the Guru becomes gracious, are blessed by him with the love of devotional worship.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਠਾਉ ॥
gur tuthai paa-ee-ai har mahal thaa-o.
When the Guru is pleased, they are blessed with a place in God’s presence,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਰਹਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਾਗੁ ॥
parhar nindaa har bhagat jaag.
and they forsake the slandering of others, they become spiritually alert and engage in the meditation of God.
ਉਹ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਵਧਾਨਤਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹ
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੩॥
har bhagat suhaavee karam bhaag. ||3||
Thus by God’s grace, the gratifying meditation of God becomes a part of their lives. ||3||
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
gur mayl milaavai karay daat.
O’ my friends, when the Guru bestows them the gift of Naam, he unites them with God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ) ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ |
ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
gursikh pi-aaray dinas raat.
Then day and night, those beloved disciples of the Guru keep meditating on Naam,
ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਫਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਸਿ ਦੇਇ ॥
fal naam paraapat gur tus day-ay.
and the Guru blesses them with the reward of Naam,
ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਇ ॥੪॥੭॥
kaho naanak paavahi virlay kay-ay. ||4||7||
Nanak says, only very rare persons receive this gift of Naam. ||4||7||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੭॥
ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਇਕ ਤੁਕਾ ॥
basant mehlaa 3 ik tukaa.
Raag Basant, Third Guru, Ik-Tukas (One-liners):
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
saahib bhaavai sayvak sayvaa karai.
It is only when God so pleases, that His devotee can meditate on Him.
ਜੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ (ਕੋਈ) ਸੇਵਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ (ਭਗਤੀ) ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰੈ ॥੧॥
jeevat marai sabh kul uDhrai. ||1||
Such a devotee remains so detached from worldly entanglements, as if he is dead while still alive, and emancipates all his generations. ||1||
ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਪਰਾਮ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੁਲ ਭੀ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਹਸੈ ॥
tayree bhagat na chhoda-o ki-aa ko hasai.
O’ God, I won’t forsake Your devotion, even if people make fun of me.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਗਤ ਹਾਸੇ-ਮਖ਼ੌਲ ਕਰੇ), ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਹਾਸੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ|
ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saach naam mayrai hirdai vasai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
because Your true Name resides in my heart. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਓਂਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਤਹਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗਲਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥
jaisay maa-i-aa mohi paraanee galat rahai.
Just as most of the people remain engrossed in the love for Maya.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤੈਸੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਵਤ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥
taisay sant jan raam naam ravat rahai. ||2||
likewise the saintly persons remain absorbed in meditating on God’s Name. ||2||
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆ ॥
mai moorakh mugaDh oopar karahu da-i-aa.
O’ God, please show mercy on me, the ignorant fool,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ,
ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਰਹਉ ਪਇਆ ॥੩॥
ta-o sarnaagat raha-o pa-i-aa. ||3||
and bless me that I may always remain in Your refuge. ||3||
(ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਕਹਤੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਾਮਾ ॥
kahat naanak sansaar kay nihfal kaamaa.
Nanak says, fruitless are all the worldly deeds without remembering God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਵਿਅਰਥ (ਸਾਬਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ) ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੮॥
gur parsaad ko paavai amrit naamaa. ||4||8||
By the Guru’s grace, only rare ones receive the ambrosial nectar of Naam. ||4||8||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੮॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਲ ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਬਿਪ ਪੂਜਿ ਮਨਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤੁਲਸੀ ਮਾਲਾ ॥
saal garaam bip pooj manaavahu sukarit tulsee maalaa.
O’ Brahmin, you worship and try to please the idol of Saligram, and think that the only good deed is to meditate with the rosary made of tulsi beads .
ਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ! ਤੂੰ ਪੱਥਰ ਦੇ ਦੇਵ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਲਸੀ ਦੀ ਜਪਨੀ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਰਮ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਬੇੜਾ ਬਾਂਧਹੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੧॥
raam naam jap bayrhaa baaNDhahu da-i-aa karahu da-i-aalaa. ||1||
Instead, build a boat of meditation on God’s Name to cross the worldly ocean of vices and pray: O’ merciful God please show mercy on us. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ) ਇਹ ਬੇੜਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ, (ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰੋ ਤੇ ਆਖੋ-) ਹੇ ਦਿਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ) ਦਇਆ ਕਰ ॥੧॥
