ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੨॥
naamay naam milai vadi-aa-ee jis no man vasaa-ay. ||2||
One in whose mind God enshrines Naam, he receives glory both here and hereafter by always remaining focused on God’s Name. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਤਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
satgur bhaytai taa fal paa-ay sach karnee sukh saar.
One receives eternal bliss as the fruit of lovingly remembering God which is the most sublime deed, only by meeting the true Guru and following his teachings.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ (ਅਸਲ) ਕਰਤੱਬ ਹੈ, (ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸੁਖ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਫਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਧਰਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੩॥
say jan nirmal jo har laagay har naamay Dhareh pi-aar. ||3||
Immaculate are those devotees who are focused on God and develop love with His Name. ||3||
ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪੁਰਸ਼, ਜੋ ਸਾਈਂ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਈ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
tin kee rayn milai taaN mastak laa-ee jin satgur pooraa Dhi-aa-i-aa.
If I can meet with those who have enshrined in their heart the teaching of the perfect true Guru, I would humbly serve them.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਧੂੜ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਾਵਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਿਨੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੩॥
naanak tin kee rayn poorai bhaag paa-ee-ai jinee raam naam chit laa-i-aa. ||4||3||13||
O’ Nanak, only by perfect good fortune, one gets the opportunity to follow the teachings of those who have focused their mind on God’s Name. ||4||3||13||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੩॥

Raag Bhairao, Third Guru:
ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
sabad beechaaray so jan saachaa jin kai hirdai saachaa so-ee.
One who reflects on the Guru’s divine word is the true devotee; those in whose hearts is enshrined the eternal God,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੱਚਾ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ; ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਤਨਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
saachee bhagat karahi din raatee taaN tan dookh na ho-ee. ||1||
they always perform the true devotional worship of God, their mind and body is not afflicted with any kind of misery. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਦੁੱਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਭਗਤੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
bhagat bhagat kahai sabh ko-ee.
Everyone calls each other as the devotee of God,
ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਸਰਧਾਲੂ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin satgur sayvay bhagat na paa-ee-ai poorai bhaag milai parabh so-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
But gift of devotional worship is not received without following the true Guru’s teachings; one realizes God with perfect destiny. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਵਹਿ ਲਾਭੁ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਕਿਦੂ ਹੋਈ ॥
manmukh mool gavaaveh laabh maageh laahaa laabh kidoo ho-ee.
The self-willed persons lose all their capital of breaths in worldly pursuits, but ask for spiritual profit; how can they amass this spiritual profit ?
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਸਰਮਾਇਆ (ਹੀ) ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਲਾਭ। (ਦੱਸੋ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਖੱਟੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ? ਲਾਭ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਮਿਲੇ?
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥੨॥
jamkaal sadaa hai sir oopar doojai bhaa-ay pat kho-ee. ||2||
The fear of death is always hovering over their heads, and they lose their honor due to their love for duality. ||2||
ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ॥੨॥
ਬਹਲੇ ਭੇਖ ਭਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
bahlay bhaykh bhaveh din raatee ha-umai rog na jaa-ee.
Adopting various holy garbs, they always wander around, but their malady of ego does not go away.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਈ (ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਭੇਖ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਥਾਂ ਥਾਂ) ਭੌਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ , ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਲੂਝਹਿ ਬਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੩॥
parh parh loojheh baad vakaaneh mil maa-i-aa surat gavaa-ee. ||3||
They study many scriptures, enter into arguments and controversies among themselves and have lost their mind for the love of materialism. ||3||
ਉਹ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਝਗੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਹਨ ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ) ਹੋਸ਼ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
satgur sayveh param gat paavahi naam milai vadi-aa-ee.
Those who follow the teachings of the true Guru, are blessed with the supreme spiritual state; by remembering God, they receive glory both here and hereafter.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੪॥
naanak naam jinaa man vasi-aa dar saachai pat paa-ee. ||4||4||14||
O’ Nanak, those in whose mind is enshrined God’s Name, they receive honor in God’s presence. ||4||4||14||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਖੱਟ ਲਈ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੪॥

Raag Bhairao, Third Guru:
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਉਤਰੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਏ ॥
manmukh aasaa nahee utrai doojai bhaa-ay khu-aa-ay.
The worldly desires of the self-willed persons are never satisfied, and due to their love for duality they remain astray from the righteous living.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੋੜਨ ਦੀ) ਲਾਲਸਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ। ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਉਦਰੁ ਨੈ ਸਾਣੁ ਨ ਭਰੀਐ ਕਬਹੂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਪਚਾਏ ॥੧॥
udar nai saan na bharee-ai kabhoo tarisnaa agan pachaa-ay. ||1||
Like a river, their mind never gets satiated with worldly wealth and the fire of worldly desires keeps consuming them. ||1||
ਨਦੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੇਟ (ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ) ਕਦੇ ਰੱਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
sadaa anand raam ras raatay.
Eternally blissful are those who are imbued with the essence of God’s Name,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hirdai naam dubiDhaa man bhaagee har har amrit pee tariptaatay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God’s Name is enshrined in their heart, the duality of their mind goes away and they remain satiated by drinking the ambrosial nectar of Naam, ||1||Pause||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਦਾ) ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਪੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਏ ॥
aapay paarbarahm sarisat jin saajee sir sir DhanDhai laa-ay.
The supreme God who created the universe, has attached people to the tasks according to their previous deeds.
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਛਲੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਦੁਨੀਆਵੀ ਕੰਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਏ ॥੨॥
maa-i-aa moh kee-aa jin aapay aapay doojai laa-ay. ||2||
God who has created the love for Maya, has Himself attached human beings to duality according to their previous deeds. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਹੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਜੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
tis no kihu kahee-ai jay doojaa hovai sabh tuDhai maahi samaa-ay.
If there were someone else other than You, only then would we complain to him; O’ God, ultimately all beings merge in You.
ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਜਣਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ; ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੩॥
gurmukh gi-aan tat beechaaraa jotee jot milaa-ay. ||3||
One who follows the Guru’s teachings and reflects on the reality of righteous living, his light (soul) remains merged in the divine light.||3||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਅਸਲ ਸੂਝ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਭੁ ਆਕਾਰਾ ॥
so parabh saachaa sad hee saachaa saachaa sabh aakaaraa.
God is eternal, forever true, and so is all of His creation.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੫॥
naanak satgur sojhee paa-ee sach naam nistaaraa. ||4||5||15||
O’ Nanak, whom the true Guru blessed this understanding, knows that the world ocean of vices can be crossed by lovingly remembering God’s Name. ||4||5||15||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੫॥
ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Bhairao, Third Guru:
ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਸਤਜੁਗਿ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
kal meh parayt jinHee raam na pachhaataa satjug param hans beechaaree.
Even in kalyug only those people are like ghosts who have not realized God, and those who reflect on spiritual wisdom and live righteously are the sublime people of satyug.
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ (ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ) ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ। ਸਤਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਉਹੀ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ (ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਤਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸ ਨਹੀਂ)।
ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿ ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈ ਮਾਣਸ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
du-aapur taraytai maanas varteh virlai ha-umai maaree. ||1||
People with similar character as that of Kalyug and Satyug also live in the age of Duappar and in the age of Treta, but only a rare one eradicated his ego. ||1||
ਦੁਆਪੁਰ ਵਿਚ ਤ੍ਰੇਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਸਤਜੁਗ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ। ਤਦੋ ਭੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੧॥
ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
kal meh raam naam vadi-aa-ee.
In the age of kalyug, greatness is achieved only by remembering God’s Name with love and devotion.
ਕਲਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jug jug gurmukh ayko jaataa vin naavai mukat na paa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Throughout all ages the Guru’s followers have realized God, and no one has ever achieved freedom from vices without remembering God. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਖੈ ਜਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
hirdai naam lakhai jan saachaa gurmukh man vasaa-ee.
That person comprehends God’s Name residing in his heart, who has enshrined the eternal God in his mind by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਸਹੀ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
aap taray saglay kul taaray jinee raam naam liv laa-ee. ||2||
Those who focused their mind on God’s Name, they themselves swam and helped all their lineages to swim across the world-ocean of vices. ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਨ ਬਣਾਈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲਈਆਂ ॥੨॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਣ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਵਗਣ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
mayraa parabh hai gun kaa daataa avgan sabad jalaa-ay.
My God is the benefactor of virtues and He burns off all the sins of a person by uniting him to the Guru’s divine word.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਣ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਔਗੁਣ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
