Raag Maaroo, the Hymns of Jaideo Jee:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚੰਦ ਸਤ ਭੇਦਿਆ ਨਾਦ ਸਤ ਪੂਰਿਆ ਸੂਰ ਸਤ ਖੋੜਸਾ ਦਤੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
chand sat bhaydi-aa naad sat poori-aa soor sat khorhsaa dat kee-aa.
(To realize God), I inhaled through the Moon (left nostril), retained the breath in Sukhmana (an imaginary central channel), uttered God’s Name sixteen times and exhaled through the Sun (right nostril).
ਖੱਬੀ ਸੁਰ ਰਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਕੇ , ਸੁਖਮਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਅਟਕਾਏ , ਤੇ ਸੱਜੀ ਸੁਰ ਰਸਤੇ ਸੋਲਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ‘ਓਂ’ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿਤੇ
ਅਬਲ ਬਲੁ ਤੋੜਿਆ ਅਚਲ ਚਲੁ ਥਪਿਆ ਅਘੜੁ ਘੜਿਆ ਤਹਾ ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਆ ॥੧॥
abal bal torhi-aa achal chal thapi-aa agharh gharhi-aa tahaa api-o pee-aa. ||1||
Instead of those painful breathing exercises, I destroyed the power of my evil intellect, stabilized my mercurial mind, adorned my unadorned mind by singing God’s praises, and drank the ambrosial nectar of Naam. ||1||
ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਲ ਤੋੜਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਕੀਤਾ, ਚੰਚਲ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਚਲ ਕੀਤਾ,ਅਣਘੜੇ ਮਨ ਹੁਣ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਘਾੜਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਆਦਿ ਗੁਣ ਆਦਿ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥
man aad gun aad vakhaani-aa.
O’ my mind, by singing praises of the primal God,
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ-
ਤੇਰੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸੰਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tayree dubiDhaa darisat sammaani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
your sense of duality (that you are distinct from God) has vanished. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰਾ ਵਿਤਕਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਪੱਧਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਰਧਿ ਕਉ ਅਰਧਿਆ ਸਰਧਿ ਕਉ ਸਰਧਿਆ ਸਲਲ ਕਉ ਸਲਲਿ ਸੰਮਾਨਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
araDh ka-o arDhi-aa saraDh ka-o sarDhi-aa salal ka-o salal sammaan aa-i-aa.
I remembered God, who is worth remembering, trusted God who is worthy of trust and became one with God, like water with water.
ਮੈਂ ਆਰਾਧਣ-ਜੋਗ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਆਰਾਧਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਸਰਧਾ-ਜੋਗ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਦਕ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਣੀ।
ਬਦਤਿ ਜੈਦੇਉ ਜੈਦੇਵ ਕਉ ਰੰਮਿਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਲਿਵ ਲੀਣੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥੧॥
badat jaiday-o jaidayv ka-o rammi-aa barahm nirbaan liv leen paa-i-aa. ||2||1||
Jaideo says, I have lovingly remembered the triumphant God, and I have realized God, who is unaffected by May, by getting imbued with His love. ||2||1||
ਜੈ ਦੇਉ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ, ਜੇ ਦੈਵ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਮਾ ਕੇ, ਮੈਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥

Kabeer, Raag Maaroo:
ਰਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰੁ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿਗਾ ਮਨ ॥
raam simar pachhutaahigaa man.
O’ my mind, meditate on God’s Name, otherwise you will regret in the end.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਹੁਣ ਹੀ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, (ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਮਾ ਵਿਹਾ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ) ਅਫ਼ਸੋਸ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ।
ਪਾਪੀ ਜੀਅਰਾ ਲੋਭੁ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਹਿਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paapee jee-araa lobh karat hai aaj kaal uth jaahigaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O sinful mortal, you are indulging in greed, but remember today or tomorrow (soon) you would depart from this world. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਗੁਨਾਹਗਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ, ਤੂੰ ਲਾਲਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਅੱਜ ਜਾਂ ਭਲਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਠੱ ਕੇ ਟੁਰ ਵੰਝੇਗਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਲਾਲਚ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਰਮ ਭੁਲਾਹਿਗਾ ॥
laalach laagay janam gavaa-i-aa maa-i-aa bharam bhulaahigaa.
Clinging to greed, you have wasted your life; deluded in the love for Maya, you will remain astrayed.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈਂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਧਨ ਜੋਬਨ ਕਾ ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਕਾਗਦ ਜਿਉ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਹਿਗਾ ॥੧॥
Dhan joban kaa garab na keejai kaagad ji-o gal jaahigaa. ||1||
Do not take egotistical pride in your wealth and youth, these would disappear just as paper dissolves in water. ||1||
ਨਾਹ ਕਰ ਇਹ ਮਾਣ ਧਨ ਤੇ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਦਾ, (ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ) ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਵਾਂਗ ਗਲ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ ॥੧॥
ਜਉ ਜਮੁ ਆਇ ਕੇਸ ਗਹਿ ਪਟਕੈ ਤਾ ਦਿਨ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਬਸਾਹਿਗਾ ॥
ja-o jam aa-ay kays geh patkai taa din kichh na basaahigaa.
When the demon comes, he would seize your head and knock you down (he would severely punish you), you would be powerless on that day.
ਜਦੋਂ ਜਮ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁੰਞੇ ਪਟਕਾਇਆ, ਤਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ (ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ) ਕੋਈ ਪੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਇਗੀ।
ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਭਜਨੁ ਦਇਆ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਤਉ ਮੁਖਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿਗਾ ॥੨॥
simran bhajan da-i-aa nahee keenee ta-o mukh chotaa khaahigaa. ||2||
You have not remembered God and have not practiced compassion; you would bear severe punishment in the end. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਭਜਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ , ਮਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾ ॥੨॥
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਜਬ ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਗੈ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਖੁ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਜਾਹਿਗਾ ॥
Dharam raa-ay jab laykhaa maagai ki-aa mukh lai kai jaahigaa.
How would you face the judge of righteousness when he would ask you for the account of your deeds?
ਜਦੋਂ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਨੇ (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੰਗਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਕੀਹ ਮੂੰਹ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾ?
ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਤਰਿ ਜਾਂਹਿਗਾ ॥੩॥੧॥
kahat kabeer sunhu ray santahu saaDhsangat tar jaaNhigaa. ||3||1||
Kabir says, listen, O’ Saints: by staying in the holy congregation, you would be able to swim across the world-ocean of vices. ||3||1||
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸੁਣੋ, ਸਾਧ-ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਓਗੇ॥੩॥੧॥

ਐਸੀ ਲਾਲ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਉਨੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
aisee laal tujh bin ka-un karai.
O’ my beloved God, who can do such a wondrous thing except for You?
ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੋਰ ਕੌਣ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜੁ ਗੁਸਈਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਥੈ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਧਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gareeb nivaaj gus-ee-aa mayraa maathai chhatar Dharai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My God grants honor to those who have no status in the society as if making them like a king with canopy over their head. ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗ਼ਰੀਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, (ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੀ ਛੱਤਰ ਝੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਛੋਤਿ ਜਗਤ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਪਰ ਤੁਹੀ ਢਰੈ ॥
jaa kee chhot jagat ka-o laagai taa par tuheeN dharai.
O’ God, You alone take pity on that person who is deemed so lowly in the society, that even his touch is deemed to be polluting the entire world.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਛੋਹਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਭਿੱਟਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸਮਝਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਣ।
ਨੀਚਹ ਊਚ ਕਰੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਕਾਹੂ ਤੇ ਨ ਡਰੈ ॥੧॥
neechah ooch karai mayraa gobind kaahoo tay na darai. ||1||
My God elevates the lowest to the highest rank in society, He is not afraid of anybody. ||1||
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੀਚ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੇ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਤਿਲੋਚਨੁ ਸਧਨਾ ਸੈਨੁ ਤਰੈ ॥
naamdayv kabeer tilochan saDhnaa sain tarai.
Devotees like Namdev, Kabir, Trilochan, Sadhana and Sain crossed over the worldly ocean of vices by lovingly remembering God.
ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਕਬੀਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ਸਧਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਭਗਤ (ਨਾਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ।
ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੇ ਸਭੈ ਸਰੈ ॥੨॥੧॥
kahi ravidaas sunhu ray santahu har jee-o tay sabhai sarai. ||2||1||
Ravidas says! O’ saints, listen, God is capable of doing everything. ||2||1||
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸੁਣੋ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥

Raag Maaroo:
ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੁਰਿਤਰੁ ਚਿੰਤਾਮਨਿ ਕਾਮਧੇਨ ਬਸਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰੇ ॥
sukh saagar suritar chintaaman kaamDhayn bas jaa kay ray.
O’ brother, that God who is the ocean of peace, in whose control is wish fulfiling Surtar (mythical tree), Chinta mani ( Mythical jewel) and Kamdhen ( Mythical cow).
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ) ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਗ ਦੇ ਪੰਜ ਰੁੱਖ, ਚਿੰਤਾਮਣਿ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਮਧੇਨ ਹਨ;
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਮਹਾ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਕਰ ਤਲ ਤਾ ਕੈ ॥੧॥
chaar padaarath asat mahaa siDh nav niDh kar tal taa kai. ||1||
Who also controls the four boons (righteousness, prosperity, worldly desires, and liberation), the eight great miraculous powers and all the treasures. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਤਲੀਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਅਰਥ ਕਾਮ ਮੋਖ ਚਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਅੱਠ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੌ ਨਿਧੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨ ਜਪਸਿ ਰਸਨਾ ॥ ਅਵਰ ਸਭ ਛਾਡਿ ਬਚਨ ਰਚਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har har na japas rasnaa. avar sabh chhaad bachan rachnaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Forsaking all other fabricated shallow words, why don’t you lovingly remember God? ||1||Pause||
ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਫੋਕੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ?॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਨਾ ਖਿਆਨ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਬੇਦ ਬਿਧਿ ਚਉਤੀਸ ਅਛਰ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
naanaa khi-aan puraan bayd biDh cha-utees achhar maahee.
Innumerable kinds of stories mentioned in Puranas and the techniques described in Vedas are mere compositions in the thirty four letters of the alphabet.
(ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ!) ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ, ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੱਸੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਵਾਕ-ਰਚਨਾ ਹੀ ਹਨ ।
ਬਿਆਸ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਕਹਿਓ ਪਰਮਾਰਥੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
bi-aas beechaar kahi-o parmaarath raam naam sar naahee. ||2||
After careful thought, the sage Vyas (the author of Vedas) spoke the supreme truth, that nothing equals remembering God’s Name with adoration. ||2||
ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਖੋਜੀ ਵਿਆਸ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਨੇ ਸੋਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਇਹੀ ਪਰਮ ਤੱਤ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਠ ਆਦਿਕ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੨॥
ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਰਹਤ ਹੋਇ ਬਡੇ ਭਾਗਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
sahj samaaDh upaaDh rahat ho-ay baday bhaag liv laagee.
By great good fortune, one whose mind is focused on God, he remains spiritually stable and no evil thoughts arise in his mind.
(ਹੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ!) ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਠਦਾ।
ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਮਤਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਭੈ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੩॥੨॥੧੫॥
kahi ravidaas udaas daas mat janam maran bhai bhaagee. ||3||2||15||
Ravidas says, the intellect of such a God’s devotee remains detached from materialism and his fear of birth and death vanishes. ||3||2||15||
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਨਿਰਮੋਹ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਦੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥੨॥੧੫॥
