Fifth Guru:
ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦਰਦ ਘਣੇ ਵੇਦਨ ਜਾਣੇ ਤੂ ਧਣੀ ॥
dukhee-aa darad ghanay vaydan jaanay too Dhanee.
O’ God, I am miserable, within me is so much pain and You alone know the pangs of my heart.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਦੁਖੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪੀੜਾਂ ਹਨ। ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਾਣਾ ਲਖ ਭਵੇ ਪਿਰੀ ਡਿਖੰਦੋ ਤਾ ਜੀਵਸਾ ॥੨॥
jaanaa lakh bhavay piree dikhando taa jeevsaa. ||2||
O’ my husband God! even though I am sure that you know the pangs of my heart, yet I feel spiritually alive only when I experience Your blessed vision. ||2||
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਖ ਪਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ (ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਵੇਦਨ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਸਾਹ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਾਂ ॥੨॥

Fifth Guru:
ਢਹਦੀ ਜਾਇ ਕਰਾਰਿ ਵਹਣਿ ਵਹੰਦੇ ਮੈ ਡਿਠਿਆ ॥
dhahdee jaa-ay karaar vahan vahanday mai dithi-aa.
The bank of the worldly river is being washed away due to vices, I have seen many people getting spiritually ruined by the raging flood of vices.
ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਨਦੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਢਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਢਹਿੰਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋੜ੍ਹ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਰੁੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪ ਵੇਖੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੇਈ ਰਹੇ ਅਮਾਣ ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ॥੩॥
say-ee rahay amaan jinaa satgur bhayti-aa. ||3||
Only they remain safe, who meet and follow the true Guru’s teaching. ||3||
ਉਹੀ ਸਹੀ-ਸਲਾਮਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥
pa-orhee.
Pauree:
ਜਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਭੁਖ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ॥
jis jan tayree bhukh hai tis dukh na vi-aapai.
O’ God, no sorrow afflicts that person who longs for Your Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਸੁ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਡੀ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
jin jan gurmukh bujhi-aa so chahu kundee jaapai.
The devotee who has realized You through the Guru’s teachings, becomes renowned everywhere,
ਜਿਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਨਰੁ ਉਸ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੰਬਹਿ ਪਾਪੈ ॥
jo nar us kee sarnee parai tis kambeh paapai.
then the evil thoughts run away from a person, who remains in the company of that devotee.
(ਫਿਰ) ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਨੇੜੇ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੇ।
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਧੂੜੀ ਨਾਪੈ ॥
janam janam kee mal utrai gur Dhoorhee naapai.
The filth of vices of countless births is washed away by humbly following the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਈ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥
jin har bhaanaa mani-aa tis sog na santaapai.
One who has cheerfully accepted God’s will, is not tormented by any sorrow.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੂ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਮਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਭਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਆਪੈ ॥
har jee-o too sabhnaa kaa mit hai sabh jaaneh aapai.
O’ dear God! You are the friend of all and You consider all beings Your own.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਐਸੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਜਨੈ ਕੀ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਰਤਾਪੈ ॥
aisee sobhaa janai kee jayvad har partaapai.
The glory of God’s devotee is as great as the splendor of God.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਉਤਨੀ ਹੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਤੇਜ-ਪਰਤਾਪ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਨ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੮॥
sabh antar jan vartaa-i-aa har jan tay jaapai. ||8||
God enshrines the glory of His devotees within all other human beings, because God is known through His devotees. ||8||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥

Dakhanay, Fifth Guru:
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਹਉ ਗਈ ਸੇ ਮੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਭੀ ਰਵਿਆਸੁ ॥
jinaa pichhai ha-o ga-ee say mai pichhai bhee ravi-aas.
Those to whom I went and asked for worldly things, they are also coming to me to ask for worldly wealth.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਮੈਂ ਗਈ, (ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਲ ਤੱਕਦੀ ਹਾਂ), ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਨਾ ਕੀ ਮੈ ਆਸੜੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਮਹਿਜੀ ਆਸ ॥੧॥
jinaa kee mai aasrhee tinaa mahijee aas. ||1||
Those in whom I placed my hopes, now place their hopes in me. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹੈਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਸ ਰੱਖੀ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਹ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਆਸ ਬਣਾਈ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਗਿਲੀ ਗਿਲੀ ਰੋਡੜੀ ਭਉਦੀ ਭਵਿ ਭਵਿ ਆਇ ॥
gilee gilee rodrhee bha-udee bhav bhav aa-ay.
Flying around, when a fly sits on a wet lump of molasses, (it gets entrapped in it and dies):
ਚਿਪ-ਚਿਪ ਕਰਦੀ ਗੁੜ ਦੀ ਰੌੜੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੱਖੀ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਉੱਡ ਕੇ ਆ ਬੈਠਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਗੁੜ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਚੰਬੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਬੈਠੇ ਸੇ ਫਾਥਿਆ ਉਬਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਮਥਾਇ ॥੨॥
jo baithay say faathi-aa ubray bhaag mathaa-ay. ||2||
Similarly people get allured by Maya, get trapped (and spiritually deteriorate); only those who have good destiny are saved. ||2||
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੋ ਹੋ) ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਉਹੀ ਬਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਦੇ ਭਾਗ (ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੨॥

Fifth Guru:
ਡਿਠਾ ਹਭ ਮਝਾਹਿ ਖਾਲੀ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
dithaa habh majhaahi khaalee ko-ay na jaanee-ai.
I have seen God within all, no one is without Him.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਐਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ।
ਤੈ ਸਖੀ ਭਾਗ ਮਥਾਹਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਜਣੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ॥੩॥
tai sakhee bhaag mathaahi jinee mayraa sajan raavi-aa. ||3||
But only those friends of mine are fortunate who have enjoyed the bliss of the union with my beloved God. ||3||
ਪਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਹੇਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਦੇ ਭਾਗ ਚੰਗੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:
ਹਉ ਢਾਢੀ ਦਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਦਾ ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
ha-o dhaadhee dar gun gaavdaa jay har parabh bhaavai.
If it pleases God, only then I, a minstrel, sing God’s praises in His presence.
ਜੇ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ (ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਮੇਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ) ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਢਾਢੀ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਥਿਰ ਥਾਵਰੀ ਹੋਰ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
parabh mayraa thir thaavree hor aavai jaavai.
Only my God is eternal, the rest of the world is subjected to births and deaths.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਹੋਰ (ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ) ਜੰਮਦੀ ਮਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਮੰਗਾ ਦਾਨੁ ਗੋੁਸਾਈਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੁਖ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
so mangaa daan gosaa-ee-aa jit bhukh leh jaavai.
O’ God, the Master of the earth! I beg for that gift from You with which my yearning for materialism may vanish.
ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਈ! ਮੈਂ (ਤੈਥੋਂ) ਉਹ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਢਾਢੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ॥
parabh jee-o dayvhu darsan aapnaa jit dhaadhee tariptaavai.
O dear God, please bless me with Your divine vision, so that this minstrel may become satiated and fulfilled.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਦਿਉ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਢਾਢੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਵਾਂ।
ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਦਾਤਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਢਾਢੀ ਕਉ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
ardaas sunee daataar parabh dhaadhee ka-o mahal bulaavai.
The beneficent God heard my prayer and called me, the bard, to His presence.
ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਸੁਣ ਲਈ ਤੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਢਾਢੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਹਲ ਵਿਚ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ (ਬੁਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ);
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਖਦਿਆ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਗਈ ਢਾਢੀ ਕਉ ਮੰਗਣੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
parabh daykh-di-aa dukh bhukh ga-ee dhaadhee ka-o mangan chit na aavai.
Upon seeing (realizing) God, all my sorrows and yearning for the Maya vanished, and this bard could not think of begging for anything.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ) ਭੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਢਾਢੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਚੇਤੇ ਹੀ ਨਾਹ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕੁਝ ਮੰਗਾਂ,
ਸਭੇ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਲਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
sabhay ichhaa pooree-aa lag parabh kai paavai.
All my wishes were fulfilled by absorbing myself in God’s immaculate Name.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਕਾਮਨਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ ।
ਹਉ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਢਾਢੀ ਬਖਸਿਓਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਵੇਦਾਵੈ ॥੯॥
ha-o nirgun dhaadhee bakhsi-on parabh purakh vaidaavai. ||9||
The all pervading God blessed me, the lowly and unvirtuous minstrel. ||9||
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਢਾਢੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਲਿਆ ॥੯॥
ਡਖਣੇ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Dakhanay, Fifth Guru:
ਜਾ ਛੁਟੇ ਤਾ ਖਾਕੁ ਤੂ ਸੁੰਞੀ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੀ ॥
jaa chhutay taa khaak too sunjee kant na jaanhee.
O’ my body, when you are separated from the soul, you would become dust and in that lonely state you will not be able to recognize (realize) your Husband-God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਾਇਆ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਇਗਾ, ਤਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਂਗੀ, ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੀ ਤੂੰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕੇਂਗੀ। (ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕੇਂਗੀ)।
ਦੁਰਜਨ ਸੇਤੀ ਨੇਹੁ ਤੂ ਕੈ ਗੁਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਹੀ ॥੧॥
durjan saytee nayhu too kai gun har rang maanhee. ||1||
You are in love with evil passions, with what virtues do you hope to enjoy the bliss of union with God? ||1||
(ਹੁਣ) ਤੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ, (ਦੱਸ!) ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਗੁਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ (ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈਂ? ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਣਾ ਵਿਸਰੇ ਸਰੈ ਨ ਬਿੰਦ ॥
naanak jis bin gharhee na jeevnaa visray sarai na bind.
O’ Nanak! God, without whose will, we cannot survive even for a moment, and whom we cannot afford to forsake even for an instant,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭੀ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਸਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ , ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਨਿਰਬਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਉ ਮਨ ਰੂਸੀਐ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਚਿੰਦ ॥੨॥
tis si-o ki-o man roosee-ai jisahi hamaaree chind. ||2||
then O’ my mind, why should we alienate from Him who cares about our sustenance? ||2||
(ਫਿਰ) ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਸਾਡਾ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਰੁੱਸਇਅੇ ॥੨॥

Fifth Guru:
ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਤਿ ਗੁਲਾਲੁ ॥
ratay rang paarbarahm kai man tan at gulaal.
Those who are imbued with the love of supreme God, their body and mind emit such vibes, as if they are infused with the deep crimson of love.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ (ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ) ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਲਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਆਲੂਦਿਆ ਜਿਤੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਖਿਆਲੁ ॥੩॥
naanak vin naavai aaloodi-aa jitee hor khi-aal. ||3||
O’ Nanak, except God’s Name, any other thought pollutes the mind with the dirt of evils. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ,ਜਿਤਨਾ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਜਾ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਮੈ ਕਾੜਾ ॥
har jee-o jaa too mayraa mitar hai taa ki-aa mai kaarhaa.
O’ dear God, when You are my friend, then what anxiety is there for me?
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ ਜੀ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਾਹਦਾ ਝੋਰਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਜਿਨੀ ਠਗੀ ਜਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਸੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾੜਾ ॥
jinee thagee jag thagi-aa say tuDh maar nivaarhaa.
Because, those cheats (evil thoughts) that have deceived the world, You have completely destroyed and removed from my mind.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਠੱਗਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਠੱਗ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਭਜਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ,
ਗੁਰਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਇਆ ਜਿਤਾ ਪਾਵਾੜਾ ॥
gur bha-ojal paar langhaa-i-aa jitaa paavaarhaa.
Through the Guru’s teachings, You have ferried me across the worldly ocean of vices and I have overcome all the worldly strife.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਏ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਵਡਾ ਆਖਾੜਾ ॥
gurmatee sabh ras bhogdaa vadaa aakhaarhaa.
I enjoy all pleasures in the great world-arena by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਅਖਾੜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
ਸਭਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਦਿਤੀਓ ਸਤਵੰਤਾ ਸਾੜਾ ॥
sabh indree-aa vas kar ditee-o satvantaa saarhaa.
O’ almighty God! You are my savior, You have brought all my senses and organs under my control,
ਤੂੰ ਸਤਵੰਤਾ ਸਾਈਂ (ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ) ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
