ਤੁਧੁ ਥਾਪੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਜੁਗ ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਧਰਣ ॥

O’ God! You established the four ages, and You are the Creator of all worlds.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਧਰਤੀਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਇਹ ਚਾਰੇ ਜੁੱਗ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਕੀਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਲੇਪੁ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ॥
tuDh aavan jaanaa kee-aa tuDh layp na lagai tarin.
You created the cycle of birth and death, but it does not affect you at all.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ) ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ॥
jis hoveh aap da-i-aal tis laaveh satgur charan.
O’ God! on whom You become merciful,You attach that person to the Guru’s divine word.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਤੂ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਨ ਲਭਹੀ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰਣ ॥੨॥
too horat upaa-ay na labhhee abhinaasee sarisat karan. ||2||
O’ imperishable Creator-God of the universe, You are not realized by any other way except through the true Guru’s teachings. ||2||
ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ-ਕਰਤਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਉਪਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥੨॥

Dakhanay, Fifth Guru:
ਜੇ ਤੂ ਵਤਹਿ ਅੰਙਣੇ ਹਭ ਧਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
jay too vateh any-nay habh Dharat suhaavee ho-ay.
O’ God! if You manifest in my heart, then my entire body becomes beautiful.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਕੰਤ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਵੇਹੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਏਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੀ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਿਕਸੁ ਕੰਤੈ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਮੈਡੀ ਵਾਤ ਨ ਪੁਛੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
hikas kantai baahree maidee vaat na puchhai ko-ay. ||1||
Without my Master-God, no one cares about me. ||1||
ਇਕ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ-ਸੁਰਤ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਹਭੇ ਟੋਲ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੇ ਸਹੁ ਬੈਠਾ ਅੰਙਣੁ ਮਲਿ ॥
habhay tol suhaavanay saho baithaa anyan mal.
All things appear beautiful, when Master-God is enshrined in the heart.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਰਾਹੀ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਵੇਹੜਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੱਲ ਕੇ ਬੈਠ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਵਰਤਣੇ) ਫਬਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਪਹੀ ਨ ਵੰਞੈ ਬਿਰਥੜਾ ਜੋ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਚਲਿ ॥੨॥
pahee na vanjai birtharhaa jo ghar aavai chal. ||2||
One who (turns away from worldly attractions and) focuses on his inner-self, does not leave this world empty handed. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ-ਰਾਹੀ (ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪਰਤ ਕੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਆ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਾਲੀ-ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੨॥

Fifth Guru:
ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ਕੰਤ ਕੂ ਕੀਆ ਹਭੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
sayj vichhaa-ee kant koo kee-aa habh seegaar.
To meet my Husband-God, I have embellished my heart with divine virtues.
ਮੈਂ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪੀ) ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰਾ ਹਾਰ-ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ l
ਇਤੀ ਮੰਝਿ ਨ ਸਮਾਵਈ ਜੇ ਗਲਿ ਪਹਿਰਾ ਹਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
itee manjh na samaava-ee jay gal pahiraa haar. ||3||
Now wearing a garland around my neck is not pleasing to me, because I do not want even a garland separating me from my Husband-God. ||3||
ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਖਾਂਦਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਗਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਰ ਪਾਵਾਂ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹਾਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਵਿੱਥ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥

Pauree:
ਤੂ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵਹੀ ॥
too paarbarahm parmaysar jon na aavhee.
O’ God, You are Transcendent and Supreme, You do not go through reincarnations.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹੈਂ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਤੂ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਾਜਹਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਹੀ ॥
too hukmee saajeh sarisat saaj samaavahee.
By Your command, You create the universe and after creating it, You pervade it.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਾਲ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਜਗਤ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚ) ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੇਰਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੀ ॥
tayraa roop na jaa-ee lakhi-aa ki-o tujheh Dhi-aavahee.
Your form cannot be described, so how can people meditate on You?
ਤੇਰਾ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਫਿਰ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਧਰਨ?
ਤੂ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦੇਖਾਵਹੀ ॥
too sabh meh varteh aap kudrat daykhaavahee.
O’ God! You pervade all, and exhibit Your power in all.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, (ਸਭ ਵਿਚ) ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਵਿਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਹੀ ॥
tayree bhagat bharay bhandaar tot na aavhee.
Your treasures of devotional worship are overflowing, which never fall short.
ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦੇ,
ਏਹਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਲਾਲ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ॥
ayhi ratan javayhar laal keem na paavhee.
Your virtues are such precious jewels and diamonds, that they cannot be priced.
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਐਸੇ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਤੇ ਲਾਲ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਵਹੀ ॥
jis hoveh aap da-i-aal tis satgur sayvaa laavhee.
On whom You become merciful, You inspire him to follow the Guru’s teachings.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤੋਟਿ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੀ ॥੩॥
tis kaday na aavai tot jo har gun gaavhee. ||3||
One who sings praises of God, never faces any kind of shortage in his spiritual journey. ||3||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਥੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ॥੩॥

Dakhanay, Fifth Guru:
ਜਾ ਮੂ ਪਸੀ ਹਠ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੀ ਮਹਿਜੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
jaa moo pasee hath mai piree mahijai naal.
When I carefully look within my heart, I experience my Husband-God with me.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ (ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੇਖਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਹਭੇ ਡੁਖ ਉਲਾਹਿਅਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
habhay dukh ulaahi-am naanak nadar nihaal. ||1||
O’ Nanak, bestowing gracious glance, God has removed all my sorrows. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਬੈਠਾ ਭਖੇ ਵਾਉ ਲੰਮੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਦਰੁ ਖੜਾ ॥
naanak baithaa bhakhay vaa-o lammay sayveh dar kharhaa.
O’ Nanak! what are you contemplating standing here at the door for such a long time?
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਦਰ ਚਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਖੜਾ ਕੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ?
ਪਿਰੀਏ ਤੂ ਜਾਣੁ ਮਹਿਜਾ ਸਾਉ ਜੋਈ ਸਾਈ ਮੁਹੁ ਖੜਾ ॥੨॥
piree-ay too jaan mahijaa saa-o jo-ee saa-ee muhu kharhaa. ||2||
O’ my Beloved, only You know my objective; standing here, I am looking at Your face (experiencing Your blessed vision). ||2||
ਹੇ ਪਤੀ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਸਾਈਂ! ਮੈਂ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੱਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥

Fifth Guru:
ਕਿਆ ਗਾਲਾਇਓ ਭੂਛ ਪਰ ਵੇਲਿ ਨ ਜੋਹੇ ਕੰਤ ਤੂ ॥
ki-aa galaa-i-o bhoochh par vayl na johay kant too.
O’ fool, what should I say to you? you can be a true husband only, if you do not look at other’s women with evil intentions.
ਹੇ ਬੁੱਧੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਅਖਾਂ? ਤੂੰ ਪਰਾਈਆਂ ਵੇਲਾਂ (ਪਤਨੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ (ਸਹੀ ਅਰਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ) ਪਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਫੁਲਾ ਸੰਦੀ ਵਾੜਿ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਹਭੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਜਿਉ ॥੩॥
naanak fulaa sandee vaarh khirhi-aa habh sansaar ji-o. ||3||
O Nanak, the entire world is blooming, like a garden of flowers; appreciate the beautiful things and people without harming them ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਫੁਲਵਾੜੀ ਖਿੜੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਇਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਫੁੱਲ ਤੋੜਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਪਰਾਈ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਵਲ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਣੀ) ॥੩॥

Pauree:
ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਤੂ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੰਤਾ ॥
sugharh sujaan saroop too sabh meh vartantaa.
O’ God, You are skilful, wise, and beautiful, and You are pervading all.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸੁਚੱਜਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੈਂ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ,
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਆਪੇ ਪੂਜੰਤਾ ॥
too aapay thaakur sayvko aapay poojantaa.
You Yourself are the Master-God and the devotee; You worship Yourself by pervading the devotees.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੈਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਦਾਨਾ ਬੀਨਾ ਆਪਿ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਤਵੰਤਾ ॥
daanaa beenaa aap too aapay satvantaa.
You Yourself are omniscient, and farsighted; You Yourself are of high character.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਆਚਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥
jatee satee parabh nirmalaa mayray har bhagvantaa.
O’ my Master-God, You Yourself are celibate and immaculate.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰੀ ਭਗਵਾਨ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਤੀ ਹੈਂ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਆਚਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਭੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਓ ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲੰਤਾ ॥
sabh barahm pasaar pasaari-o aapay khaylantaa.
You Yourself have spread the entire expanse of the universe, and You Yourself are playing the game of this world.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਇਹੁ ਆਵਾ ਗਵਣੁ ਰਚਾਇਓ ਕਰਿ ਚੋਜ ਦੇਖੰਤਾ ॥
ih aavaa gavan rachaa-i-o kar choj daykhantaa.
You Yourself have set up the phenomenon of birth and death; creating the wondrous plays, You Yourself watch these.
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਗਰਭਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤਾ ॥
tis baahurh garabh na paavhee jis dayveh gur manntaa.
O’ God! whom You bless with the Guru’s teachings, You do not consign him to the womb (the cycle of birth and death) ever again.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ।
ਜਿਉ ਆਪਿ ਚਲਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਚਲਦੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਜੰਤਾ ॥੪॥
ji-o aap chalaaveh ti-o chalday kichh vas na jantaa. ||4||
The creatures do what You make them do, nothing is under their control. ||4||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੋਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤੁਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਖ਼ਤਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ॥੪॥

Dakhanay, Fifth Guru:
ਕੁਰੀਏ ਕੁਰੀਏ ਵੈਦਿਆ ਤਲਿ ਗਾੜਾ ਮਹਰੇਰੁ ॥
kuree-ay kuree-ay vaidi-aa tal gaarhaa mehrayr.
O’ mortal, be careful while walking leisurely on the bank of the river of life, in front of you is a slope (of materialism).
ਹੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ- ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਿਆ! ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਹੇਠ (ਤੇਰੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ) ਬੜੀ ਢਾਹ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਵੇਖੇ ਛਿਟੜਿ ਥੀਵਦੋ ਜਾਮਿ ਖਿਸੰਦੋ ਪੇਰੁ ॥੧॥
vaykhay chhitarh theevdo jaam khisando payr. ||1||
Watch out! lest your foot may slip and you (your mind) will get soiled with mud of materialism. ||1||
ਧਿਆਨ ਰੱਖੀਂ, ਜਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੈਰ ਤਿਲਕ ਗਿਆ, ਤਾਂ (ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਨਾਲ) ਲਿੱਬੜ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਸਚੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਚੁ ਵੈਦਿਓ ਤੂ ਆਘੂ ਆਘੇ ਸਲਵੇ ॥
sach jaanai kach vaidi-o too aaghoo aaghay salvay.
O’ mortal, deeming this perishable worldly wealth as everlasting, you are going on and on after it.
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ!) ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਕੱਚ (-ਰੂਪ ਮਾਇਆ) ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਨ ਲਈ ਅਗੇ ਹੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਤਸੜੀ ਮੰਝਿ ਨੈਣੂ ਬਿਆ ਢਲਿ ਪਬਣਿ ਜਿਉ ਜੁੰਮਿਓ ॥੨॥
naanak aatasrhee manjh nainoo bi-aa dhal paban ji-o jummi-o. ||2||
O’ Nanak, this Maya vanishes like butter melts away in fire or it gets destroyed like algae when there is no water. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਉਂ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਮੱਖਣ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ , ਜਾਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਢਲ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ) ਚੁਪੱਤੀ ਡਿੱਗ ਕੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Fifth Guru:
ਭੋਰੇ ਭੋਰੇ ਰੂਹੜੇ ਸੇਵੇਦੇ ਆਲਕੁ ॥
bhoray bhoray roohrhay sayvayday aalak.
O’ innocent being, you become lazy for remembering God.
ਹੇ ਭੋਲੇ ਭਾਲੇ ਜੀਵ ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਮੁਦਤਿ ਪਈ ਚਿਰਾਣੀਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਡੂ ਆਵੈ ਰੁਤਿ ॥੩॥
mudat pa-ee chiraanee-aa fir kadoo aavai rut. ||3||
You have been blessed with human life after a long time, if it is passed without remembering God, who knows when you will get this opportunity (human life) again? ||3||
ਲੰਮੀਆਂ ਮੁੱਦਤਾਂ ਪਿਛੋਂ (ਇਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਬੀਤ ਗਿਆ) ਤਾਂ ਮੁੜ (ਕੀਹ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ?) ਕਦੋਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ) ਰੁੱਤ ਆਵੇ ॥੩॥
