ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤੂ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ॥
jah daykhaa too sabhnee thaa-ee.
Wherever I look, I perceive You pervading everywhere,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਜਿੱਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
poorai gur sabh sojhee paa-ee.
I have received all this understanding from the perfect Guru.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਦਾ ਸਦ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
naamo naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai sadaa sad ih man naamay raataa hay. ||12||
O’ brother, we should always lovingly remember God’s Name, by doing so this mind of ours remains imbued with the God’ love forever. ||12||
ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
naamay raataa pavit sareeraa.
One who is imbued with the love of God’s Name, his body remains immaculate from the dirt of vices.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਤੋਂ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰਾ ॥
bin naavai doob mu-ay bin neeraa.
Those who are bereft of Naam remain so engrossed in evils, as if they have drowned without water and have become spiritually dead.
ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੁੰਞੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ) ਮਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਇਕਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
aavahi jaaveh naam nahee boojheh iknaa gurmukh sabad pachhaataa hay. ||13||
Those who do not understand Naam, remain in the cycle of birth and death, but there are many who follow the Guru’s teachings and realize God. ||13||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੩॥
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
poorai satgur boojh bujhaa-ee.
The Perfect True Guru has imparted this understanding,
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ) ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ,
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
vin naavai mukat kinai na paa-ee.
that nobody has ever attained liberation from vices without Naam.
ਕਿ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
naamay naam milai vadi-aa-ee sahj rahai rang raataa hay. ||14||
One who always remains focused on Naam alone, receives true honor and remains imbued with God’s love in a state of spiritual poise.||14||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੁ ਢਹੈ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ॥
kaa-i-aa nagar dhahai dheh dhayree.
This town-like body keeps crumbling and ultimately falls like a heap of dust.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ-ਨਗਰ (ਆਖ਼ਿਰ) ਢਹਿ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਢਹਿ ਕੇ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਨਹੀ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
bin sabdai chookai nahee fayree.
The cycle of birth and death does not end without following the Guru’s word.
ਪਰ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ।
ਸਾਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
saach salaahay saach samaavai jin gurmukh ayko jaataa hay. ||15||
One who has realized God by following the Guru’s teachings, always sings His praises and ultimately merges in Him. ||15||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
jis no nadar karay so paa-ay. saachaa sabad vasai man aa-ay.
One whom God bestows His gracious glance receives the gift of singing God’s praises and the eternal God manifests in his mind.
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੮॥
naanak naam ratay nirankaaree dar saachai saach pachhaataa hay. ||16||8||
O’ Nanak, those who are imbued with the Name of the formless God, realize Him and are judged true in His presence. ||16||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ (ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧੬॥੮॥

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਣਾ ॥
aapay kartaa sabh jis karnaa.
O’ God! You Yourself are that creator whose creation is this universe.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ (ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਹ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾ ॥
jee-a jant sabh tayree sarnaa.
All beings and creatures are under Your protection.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
aapay gupat vartai sabh antar gur kai sabad pachhaataa hay. ||1||
You Yourself are invisibly present within all beings, and You are realized only through the Guru’s divine word. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਪਤ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
har kay bhagat bharay bhandaaraa.
God’s treasures are filled with devotional worship.
ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਭੰਡਾਰੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
aapay bakhsay sabad veechaaraa.
Through the Guru’s word one understands that God Himself blesses the gift of devotional worship.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
jo tuDh bhaavai so-ee karseh sachay si-o man raataa hay. ||2||
O’ God! You do whatever pleases You; my mind is imbued with Your love.||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲੋ ॥
aapay heeraa ratan amolo.
God Himself is like the priceless jewel.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਰਤਨ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਤੋਲੇ ਤੋਲੋ ॥
aapay nadree tolay tolo.
God Himself evaluates this precious gem through His gracious glance.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ (ਇਸ ਹੀਰੇ ਦੀ) ਪਰਖ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
jee-a jant sabh saran tumaaree kar kirpaa aap pachhaataa hay. ||3||
O’ God, all creatures and beings are in Your refuge, one who is blessed by Your grace realizes his own self. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।॥੩॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
jis no nadar hovai Dhur tayree.
O’ God, one who has been preordained with Your gracious glance,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜੰਮੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
marai na jammai chookai fayree.
neither dies nor is born; he is released from the cycle of birth and death
ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਚੱਕਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
saachay gun gaavai din raatee jug jug ayko jaataa hay. ||4||
He always sings the praises of the eternal God and understands that the same God has been present throughout the ages.||4||
ਉਹ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi sabh jagat upaa-i-aa.
O’ God! You have created the entire world infused with the love of materialism,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਦੇਵ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
barahmaa bisan dayv sabaa-i-aa.
including Brahma, Vishnu and all the other angels.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ, ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਮੂਹ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ।
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਸੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
jo tuDh bhaanay say naam laagay gi-aan matee pachhaataa hay. ||5||
O’ God, only those who are pleasing to You, are attached to Naam, they have recognized You through the intellect of spiritual wisdom. ||5||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਈ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
paap punn vartai sansaaraa.
The entire world is engaged in the deeds of vices and virtues,
ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੁੰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਖੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
harakh sog sabh dukh hai bhaaraa.
causing happiness and misery; these deeds of vices and virtues are the leading cause of great sorrow in the world.
ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਗ਼ਮੀ ਹੈ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੁੰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ)।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
gurmukh hovai so sukh paa-ay jin gurmukh naam pachhaataa hay. ||6||
One who follows the Guru’s teachings and have understood God, enjoys inner peace. ||6||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ
ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
kirat na ko-ee maytanhaaraa.
No one can erase destiny based on past deeds.
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥
gur kai sabday mokh du-aaraa.
The path of liberation from the previous sinful deeds is found by following the Guru’s divine word.
(ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
poorab likhi-aa so fal paa-i-aa jin aap maar pachhaataa hay. ||7||
One who has realized God by conquering self-conceit, has received the fruit of preordained destiny (based on past virtuous deeds). ||7||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਕਮਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹੀ ਫਲ ਹੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੭॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi har si-o chit na laagai.
Due to the love for materialism, one’s mind does not spiritually bind with God,
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਘਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay ghanaa dukh aagai.
and because of the love for duality, his spiritual journey becomes agonizing.
ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
manmukh bharam bhulay bhaykh-Dhaaree ant kaal pachhutaataa hay. ||8||
The self-willed hypocriticals are deluded by doubt, they regret at the end. ||8||
ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਭੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਹੀ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਆਖ਼ਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥
har kai bhaanai har gun gaa-ay.
One who lives by God’s will and sings His praises,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਦੂਖ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
sabh kilbikh kaatay dookh sabaa-ay.
gets rid of all his sins and sorrows;
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
har nirmal nirmal hai banee har saytee man raataa hay. ||9||
his mind remains imbued with God who is immaculate and immaculate are the divine words of His praise.||9||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਭੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis no nadar karay so gun niDh paa-ay.
One upon whom God bestows his gracious glance, attains union with God, the treasure of virtues.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
ha-umai mayraa thaak rahaa-ay.
And he puts a stop to egotism and possessiveness.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ (ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ) ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਣ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
gun avgan kaa ayko daataa gurmukh virlee jaataa hay. ||10||
A rare Guru’s followers realize that there is only one giver of both virtues and vices.||10||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਰਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
mayraa parabh nirmal at apaaraa.
My God is extremely immaculate and infinite.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬੜਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
aapay maylai gur sabad veechaaraa.
God unites with Himself a person by blessing him with the intellect to reflect on the Guru’s divine word, .
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
