ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
gurmukh saachaa sabad pachhaataa.
One who followed the Guru’s teachings and through the divine world realized the eternal God,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ,
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
naa tis kutamb naa tis maataa.
understood that God has neither any particular family, nor any mother.
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਗਈ ਕਿ) ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ (ਖ਼ਾਸ) ਪਰਵਾਰ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ l
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
ayko ayk ravi-aa sabh antar sabhnaa jee-aa kaa aaDhaaree hay. ||13||
One and Only God is pervading in all and is the support of all beings. ||13||
ਕੇਵਲ ਇੱਕ ਹਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
ha-umai mayraa doojaa bhaa-i-aa.
Egotism, possessiveness, and materialism is pleasing to many people,
(ਕਈਆ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਨੂੰ) ਹਉਮੈ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਮਤਾ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਪਸੰਦ ਹੈ;
ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਖਸਮਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kichh na chalai Dhur khasam likh paa-i-aa.
but God has started this tradition from the very beginning that none of the worldly things accompany a person after death.
ਪਰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਚਲਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੇ ਤੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
gur saachay tay saach kamaaveh saachai dookh nivaaree hay. ||14||
Those who lovingly remember the eternal God by following the true Guru’s teachings, the eternal God removes all his sorrows. ||14||
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ (ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਜਾ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jaa too deh sadaa sukh paa-ay.
O’ God, when You bless someone with the Gift of Naam, he enjoys inner peace forever.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
saachai sabday saach kamaa-ay.
He focuses on You through the Guru’s word and lovingly remembers You.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
andar saachaa man tan saachaa bhagat bharay bhandaaree hay. ||15||
His heart, mind and body become spiritually stable against vices and he is full with the treasures of devotional worship. ||15||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਭੰਡਾਰੇ ਭਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੫॥
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
aapay vaykhai hukam chalaa-ay.
God Himself looks after everyone and makes them follow His command.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
apnaa bhaanaa aap karaa-ay.
He Himself inspires us to obey His Will.
ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਆਪ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੭॥
naanak naam ratay bairaagee man tan rasnaa naam savaaree hay. ||16||7||
O’ Nanak, those who are imbued with the love of God’s Name, remain detached from Maya; God’s Name has embellished their mind, body, and tongue. ||16||7||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੬॥੭॥

Raag Maaroo, Third Guru:
ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਉਪੰਨਾ ॥
aapay aap upaa-ay upannaa.
God Himself created Himself and became manifest (in nature);
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋਇਆ;
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੁ ਪਰਛੰਨਾ ॥
sabh meh vartai ayk parchhannaa.
God Himself is pervading all the beings in an invisible form.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਪਤ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ[
ਸਭਨਾ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
sabhnaa saar karay jagjeevan jin apnaa aap pachhaataa hay. ||1||
One who has searched and known his inner self, understands that God, the life of the world, takes care of all beings.||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਉਹ ਜਗਤ-ਦਾ-ਸਹਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
jin barahmaa bisan mahays upaa-ay.
God who created angels like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ,
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
sir sir DhanDhai aapay laa-ay.
and He Himself linked each and every being to their tasks.
ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਧੰਧੇ ਵਿਚ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
jis bhaavai tis aapay maylay jin gurmukh ayko jaataa hay. ||2||
One who has realized God by following the Guru’s teachings, understands that God unites with Himself the one who is pleasing to Him. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਲਿਆ (ਉਹ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
aavaa ga-on hai sansaaraa.
This world is subjected to the cycle of birth and death.
ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਚੱਕਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਹੁ ਚਿਤੈ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
maa-i-aa moh baho chitai bikaaraa.
The love for Maya is very powerful due to which one keeps thinking about vices.
ਇਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੀਵ) ਵਿਕਾਰ ਚਿਤਵਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
thir saachaa saalaahee sad hee jin gur kaa sabad pachhaataa hay. ||3||
One who has understood the Guru’s divine word, keeps praising the eternal God forever. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ , ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਇਕਿ ਮੂਲਿ ਲਗੇ ਓਨੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ik mool lagay onee sukh paa-i-aa.
Many people remain attached to their origin (God), they enjoy inner peace.
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਡਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
daalee laagay tinee janam gavaa-i-aa.
But those who remain attached to the worldly things have wasted their life.
ਪਰ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਲਾਗੇ ਜੋ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
amrit fal tin jan ka-o laagay jo boleh amrit baataa hay. ||4||
They alone bear the ambrosial fruit who recite the spiritually rejuvenating words of God’s praises.||4|||
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਫਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ) ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਬੋਲਹ ਬੋਲ ॥
ham gun naahee ki-aa bolah bol.
O’ God, we do not have any virtues, so what can we say in Your praise?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ) ਕਿਹੜੇ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ?
ਤੂ ਸਭਨਾ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਤੋਲਹਿ ਤੋਲ ॥
too sabhnaa daykheh toleh tol.
You watch and evaluate all deeds of the beings.
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ (ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਰਹਣਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakhahi rahnaa gurmukh ayko jaataa hay. ||5||
A Guru’s follower knows only You, the one God alone, and understands that we have to live as You keep us. ||5||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਾ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਏ ॥
jaa tuDh bhaanaa taa sachee kaarai laa-ay.
O’ God, when You are pleased, You attach people to the true task of lovingly remembering You,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੱਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,)
ਅਵਗਣ ਛੋਡਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
avgan chhod gun maahi samaa-ay.
then renouncing their vices, they remain immersed in Your virtues.
ਤਦ, ਉਹ ਔਗੁਣ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
gun meh ayko nirmal saachaa gur kai sabad pachhaataa hay. ||6||
One experiences the immaculate eternal God everywhere by focusing on the divine virtues through the Guru’s word. ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਿਆਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
jah daykhaa tah ayko so-ee.
Wherever I look, I perceive God pervading everywhere,
ਮੈਂ ਜਿੱਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਧਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਈ ॥
doojee durmat sabday kho-ee.
Because my bad intellect of seeing anyone other than God has vanished by reflecting on the Guru’s word,
ਕਿਉਂਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਖੋਟੀ ਮੱਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਏਕਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਮਾਣਾ ਅਪਣੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਦ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
aykas meh parabh ayk samaanaa apnai rang sad raataa hay. ||7||
(Now it appears that) God is merged in Himself and is always remains absorbed in His own delight.||7||
(ਹੁਣ ਇਉਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੌਜ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਮਲੁ ਹੈ ਕੁਮਲਾਣਾ ॥ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਬੁਝੈ ਇਆਣਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa kamal hai kumlaanaa. manmukh sabad na bujhai i-aanaa.
A self-willed ignorant person does not understand the Guru’s word, therefore he always remains so sad as if his lotus-like heart in his body has withered.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਕੁਮਲਾਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਾਇਆ ਖੋਜੇ ਪਾਏ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
gur parsaadee kaa-i-aa khojay paa-ay jagjeevan daataa hay. ||8||
One who searches his body (reflects on his spiritual life) through the Guru’s grace, realizes God, the benefactor and the life of the world. ||8||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਕੋਟ ਗਹੀ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
kot gahee kay paap nivaaray. sadaa har jee-o raakhai ur Dhaaray.
One who always keeps reverend God enshrined in his heart, rids himself of the sins which have besieged his fort-like body.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਸਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਜੋ ਇਛੇ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
jo ichhay so-ee fal paa-ay ji-o rang majeethai raataa hay. ||9||
He receives the fruits of his desires and his mind remains so deeply imbued with the love of God as if he has been dyed in the fast color of madder.||9||
ਉਹ ਜਿਸ (ਫਲ) ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਇਉਂ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਜੀਠ ਦਾ (ਪੱਕਾ) ਰੰਗ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਥੇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
manmukh gi-aan kathay na ho-ee.
A self-willed person speaks of spiritual wisdom, but does not understand it.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ,
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
fir fir aavai tha-ur na ko-ee.
He takes birth again and again and does not find any peace and stability
ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
gurmukh gi-aan sadaa saalaahay jug jug ayko jaataa hay. ||10||
The Guru’s follower is spiritually wise and he always sings God’s praises; he understands that the same one God has been there throughout the ages.||10||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੁਗ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
manmukh kaar karay sabh dukh sabaa-ay.
All the deeds which a self-willed person does, bring nothing but sorrows.
ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਨ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਉ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਏ ॥
antar sabad naahee ki-o dar jaa-ay.
The Guru’s divine word is not within him; how can he go to God’s presence?
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
gurmukh sabad vasai man saachaa sad sayvay sukh-daata hay. ||11||
The Guru’s divine word and the eternal God always dwell within the mind of the Guru’s follower; he always engages in the devotional worship of God, the benefactor of inner peace. ||11||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
