ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
satgur daataa mukat karaa-ay.
The true Guru bestows the divine virtues and liberates us from vices.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਭਿ ਰੋਗ ਗਵਾਏ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
sabh rog gavaa-ay amrit ras paa-ay.
The Guru dispels all our maladies by instilling the ambrosial nectar of Naam in our hearts.
ਸਾਡੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਰੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਠਰੁ ਸੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
jam jaagaat naahee kar laagai jis agan bujhee thar seenaa hay. ||5||
That person, whose fire of worldly desires gets quenched and the mind becomes calm, is not indebted anymore to the demon of death. ||5||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਠੰਢੀ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਮ ਮਸੂਲੀਆ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਸੂਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ॥੫॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਹੰਸ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
kaa-i-aa hans pareet baho Dhaaree.
The body has developed a great love for the soul.
ਦੇਹ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਓਹੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਓਹ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
oh jogee purakh oh sundar naaree.
The soul is like a wandering yogi, and the body is like a beautiful woman.
ਇਹ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ (ਮਾਨੋ)ਇੱਕ ਰਮਤਾ ਮਰਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਇਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੈ l
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭੋਗੈ ਚੋਜ ਬਿਨੋਦੀ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਤੈ ਮਤਾ ਨ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
ahinisbhogai choj binodee uth chaltai mataa na keenaa hay. ||6||
The soul always enjoys revelries with the body and (upon receiving the Call from God,) it leaves the body without consulting her. ||6||
ਰੰਗ-ਰਲੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਜੋਗੀ-ਜੀਵਤਮਾ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਕਾਂਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਦਰਗਾਹੋਂ ਸੱਦਾ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ) ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ (ਜੋਗੀ-ਜੀਵ ਕਾਇਆ-ਨਾਰ ਨਾਲ) ਸਲਾਹ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੬॥
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਛਾਜੈ ॥
sarisat upaa-ay rahay parabh chhaajai.
After creating the world, God protects it, like providing shade over it.
ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਗਾਜੈ ॥
pa-un paanee baisantar gaajai.
After creating the body with air, water and fire, God remains manifest in it.
ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਅੱਗ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਭ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪਰਗਟ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨੂਆ ਡੋਲੈ ਦੂਤ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
manoo-aa dolaidoot sangat mil so paa-ay jo kichh keenaa hay. ||7||
Keeping company with evil passions, the mind keeps wandering and receives the reward or punishment of his own actions. ||7||
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੋਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੀਐ ॥
naam visaar dokh dukh sahee-ai.
By forsaking God’s Name, one gets involved in sins and endures misery.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਦੋਖਾਂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਨੇ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਲਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ॥
hukam bha-i-aa chalnaa ki-o rahee-ai.
When God’s command to depart comes, then how can one remain here?
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ (ਸੱਦਾ) ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,ਬੰਦਾ ਏਥੇ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਠਹਿਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਨਰਕ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
narak koop meh gotay khaavai ji-o jal tay baahar meenaa hay. ||8||
He endures such miseries as if he has fallen into the pit of hell, and suffers like a fish out of water. ||8||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਨਰਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਉਂ ਤੜਫਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਕੇ ਮੱਛੀ (ਤੜਫਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੮॥
ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਨਰਕ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਭੋਗਾਈਐ ॥
cha-oraaseeh narak saakat bhogaa-ee-ai.
The faithless cynic endures the hell-ike sufferings of being born into million of incarnations,
ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਜੀਵ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਚੁਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੈਸਾ ਕੀਚੈ ਤੈਸੋ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
jaisaa keechaitaiso paa-ee-ai.
because one has to bear the consequences of his deeds.
(ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਯਮ ਹੀ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਫਲ ਭੋਗੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਗ੍ਰਸਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
satgur baajhahu mukat na ho-ee kirat baaDhaa garas deenaa hay. ||9||
Liberation from the vices is not received without following the true Guru’s teachings and one remains bound by the destiny based on his deeds. ||9||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੱਝਾ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਖੰਡੇ ਧਾਰ ਗਲੀ ਅਤਿ ਭੀੜੀ ॥
khanday Dhaar galee at bheerhee.
The righteous path of life in this world is very narrow, it is like walking on the sharp edge of a sword.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਹੀ ਇਨਸਾਨੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ, ਮਾਨੋ,ਖੰਡੇ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ (ਵਰਗਾ ਤ੍ਰਿੱਖਾ) ਹੈ ਇਕ ਬੜੀ ਹੀ ਤੰਗ ਗਲੀ (ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਲੇਖਾ ਲੀਜੈ ਤਿਲ ਜਿਉ ਪੀੜੀ ॥
laykhaa leejai til ji-o peerhee.
One has to clear the account of his previous deeds, which is painful like the seeds going through an oil press.
ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਭੀ ਮੁਕਾਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤਿਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਕੋਲ੍ਹੂ ਵਿਚ) ਪੀੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਲ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ੍ਹੂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ)।
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਤ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
maat pitaa kaltar sut baylee naahee bin har ras mukat na keenaa hay. ||10||
Mother, father, wife, or any friend cannot be of any help in this endeavor; liberation from vices is not received without the elixir of God’s Name. ||10||
ਇਸ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਹਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ॥੧੦॥
ਮੀਤ ਸਖੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਜਗ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
meet sakhay kaytay jag maahee.
One may have many friends and companions in the world,
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਸਾਥੀ (ਬਣਾ ਲਈਏ),
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
bin gur parmaysar ko-ee naahee.
but except the Divine-Guru, no one helps a person (drowning in the vices).
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਕੋਈ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਾਇਣਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
gur kee sayvaa mukat paraa-in an-din keertan keenaa hay. ||11||
The only support for liberation from vices is the Guru’s teachings through which one always sings the praises of God. ||11||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਬੰਦਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਕੂੜੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਉ ਧਾਵਹੁ ॥
koorh chhod saachay ka-o Dhaavahu.
O’ brother, abandon falsehood and make efforts to realize the eternal God,
ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰੋ,
ਜੋ ਇਛਹੁ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
jo ichhahu so-ee fal paavhu.
you would obtain the fruit of whatever you wish for.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਮੰਗੋਗੇ ਉਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਸਾਚ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ਸਉਦਾ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
saach vakhar kay vaapaaree virlay lai laahaa sa-udaa keenaa hay. ||12||
Very rare are the traders of the true wealth of God’s Name; one who deals in it, earns the true profit, the supreme spiritual status. ||12||
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ-ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਵੱਖਰ ਦੇ ਵਣਜਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ) ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਲੈ ਚਲਹੁ ॥
har har naam vakhar lai chalhu.
O’ my friends, depart from this world after amassing the wealth of God’s Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਇਥੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤੁਰੋ,
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਹਲਹੁ ॥
darsan paavhu sahj mahlahu.
you would experience the blessed vision of God and would receive blessings from Him because of which you will remain in spiritual poise.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪਾਵੋਗੇ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਉਹ ਦਾਤ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਅਡੋਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹੋਗੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹਹਿ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ਇਉ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਚੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
gurmukh khoj laheh jan pooray i-o samadrasee cheenaa hay. ||13||
Those who follow the Guru’s teachings, becoming perfect with divine virtues, they acquire the wealth of Naam and realize the all loving God. ||13||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਪੂਰਨ (ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਵੱਖਰ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
parabh bay-ant gurmat ko paavahi.
Only very rare people realize the infinite God by following Guru’s teachings.
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵਹਿ ॥
gur kai sabad man ka-o samjhaavahi.
Through the Guru’s word, they train their mind to remain away from evils.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਦੌੜਨ ਤੋਂ ਹਟਣ ਲਈ) ਸਮਝਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਇਉ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
satgur kee banee sat sat kar maanhu i-o aatam raamai leenaa hay. ||14||
O’ brother, believe that the Guru’s word is absolutely true; by doing this, you would be attuned to and remain merged in the all-pervading God. ||14||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣਾਵੋ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣਾਇਆਂ) ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੧੪॥
ਨਾਰਦ ਸਾਰਦ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
naarad saarad sayvak tayray.
O’ God, all great sages like Narad and the goddess Saraswati are Your devotees.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਰਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ) ਤੇ ਸਾਰਦਾ (ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਦੇਵੀਆਂ) ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ (ਹੀ ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਸੇਵਕ ਹਨ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਵਡਹੁ ਵਡੇਰੇ ॥
taribhavan sayvak vadahu vadayray.
Even the highest of high people in all the three worlds are Your devotees.
ਇਸ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਨੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਡੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਅਖਵਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਨ।
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੂ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
sabh tayree kudrat too sir sir daataa sabh tayro kaaran keenaa hay. ||15||
All the creation is Your creation, You are the sustainer of each and every one; O’ God! You are the cause and doer of everything. ||15||
ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਰਾਜ਼ਕ ਹੈਂ ॥੧੫॥
ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਞਾਏ ॥
ikdar sayveh darad vanjaa-ay.
O’ God, there are many who lovingly remember You and get rid of their pains and sufferings.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਨਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਓਇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਛਡਾਏ ॥
o-aydargeh paiDhay satguroo chhadaa-ay.
Those whom the true Guru liberates from vices, are honored in God’s presence.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਡਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ-ਸਤਕਾਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੋੜੇ ਚਿਤੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਚਲਣਿ ਨ ਦੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥
ha-umai banDhan satgur torhay chit chanchal chalan na deenaa hay. ||16||
The true Guru breaks their bonds of ego, so that they do not let their mercurial mind wander off (into evil pursuits). ||16||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਤੋੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਚਲ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਭਟਕਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧੬॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਚੀਨਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਈ ॥
satgur milhu cheenahu biDh saa-ee.
(O’ my friends), meet the true Guru and learn from him that way,
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੋ, ਤੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਉਹ ਢੰਗ ਸਿੱਖ ਲਵੋ,
ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
jit parabh paavhu ganat na kaa-ee.
by which you may realize God and you would not be required to render any account of your past deeds.
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੋ, ਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਏ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਭੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੭॥੨॥੮॥
ha-umai maar karahu gur sayvaa jan naanak har rangbheenaa hay. ||17||2||8||
O’ Nanak, eradicate your ego and follow the Guru’s teachings, by doing so the mind gets immersed in God’s love. ||17||2||8||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਪਣੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ। ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੭॥੨॥੮॥

Raag Maaroo, First Guru:
ਅਸੁਰ ਸਘਾਰਣ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
asur saghaaran raam hamaaraa.
Our God is the destroyer of demons, (lust, anger, greed etc).
ਸਾਡਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਾਡੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ।
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
ghat ghat rama-ee-aa raam pi-aaraa.
The beloved God is pervading each and every heart.
ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਰਾਮ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਲੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਮੂਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਿਖੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
naalay alakh na lakhee-ai moolay gurmukh likh veechaaraa hay. ||1||
O’ brother, the incomprehensible God is always within us, but we cannot comprehend Him at all; therefore, follow the Guru’s teachings and enshrine in your heart the thoughts about His virtues. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਅਲੱਖ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰੋ ਲਵੋ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
gurmukh saaDhoo sarant umaaree.
O’ God, those saintly persons who follow the Guru’s teachings and come to Your refuge,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇਸਾਧੂ ਪੁਰਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
