ਆਪੇ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਸਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਲੈ ਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
aapay kis hee kas bakhsay aapay day lai bhaa-ee hay. ||8||
O’ brother, God Himself examines and approves someone like a jewel on the touchstone; He Himself conducts the trade of divine virtues in the world. ||8||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਰਤਨ-ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਕਸਵੱਟੀ ਤੇ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ,ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਵਣਜ-ਵਪਾਰ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਚਲਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਆਪੇ ਧਨਖੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਰਬਾਣਾ ॥
aapay Dhanakh aapay sarbaanaa.
God Himself is the bow and He Himself is the archer.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਧਨਖ ਹੈ (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਤੀਰ ਹੈ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਤੀਰ-ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
aapay sugharh saroop si-aanaa.
God Himself is all-wise, beautiful and all-knowing.
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਚੱਜਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹਤਾ ਬਕਤਾ ਸੁਣਤਾ ਸੋਈ ਆਪੇ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
kahtaa baktaa suntaa so-ee aapay banat banaa-ee hay. ||9||
He is the speaker, the orator and the listener; He Himself has created this arrangement of the world. ||9||
ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਪਉਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
pa-un guroo paanee pit jaataa.
The air is like the Guru for the spiritual life of the beings, and water is like the father of the beings.
ਹਵਾ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ, ਪਾਣੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਉ ਹੈ,
ਉਦਰ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
udar sanjogee Dhartee maataa.
The earth is like the mother for all the creatures, which produces all the food necessary for their survival from its womb.
ਧਰਤੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਲੋੜੀਂਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੈਆਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਦੁਇ ਦਾਈ ਦਾਇਆ ਜਗੁ ਖੇਲੈ ਖੇਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
rain dinas du-ay daa-ee daa-i-aa jag khaylai khaylaa-ee hay. ||10||
The night and the day are like the female and male nurses in whose laps the world is playing the game, which God Himself is making it to play. ||10||
ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਤ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਖਿਡਾਵੀ ਤੇ ਖਿਡਾਵਾ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ) ਜਗਤ ਖੇਡ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਖੇਡ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੇਡ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਆਪੇ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਲਾ ॥
aapay machhulee aapay jaalaa.
God Himself is the fish, and Himself the net to catch the fish.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੱਛੀ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮੱਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਫਸਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਜਾਲ ਹੈਂ;
ਆਪੇ ਗਊ ਆਪੇ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
aapay ga-oo aapay rakhvaalaa.
God Himself is the cow and Himself their keeper.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗਾਂ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗਾਈਆਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਜਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
sarab jee-aa jag jot tumaaree jaisee parabh furmaa-ee hay. ||11||
O’ God! Your light fills all the beings and the entire world does, as You command. ||11||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ। ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਆਪੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਆਪੇ ਭੋਗੀ ॥
aapay jogee aapay bhogee.
God Himself is the yogi, and Himself the enjoyer of the worldly pleasures
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਰਸੀਆ ਪਰਮ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ॥
aapay rasee-aa param sanjogee.
Because of His presence in all the beings, He Himself is the reveller.
ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ (ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਮਿਆ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
aapay vaybaanee nirankaaree nirbha-o taarhee laa-ee hay. ||12||
God Himself remains speechless and formless, and is fearless; He Himself is absorbed in deep meditation. ||12||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬੋਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਰਹਿਤ, ਸਰੂਪ-ਰਹਿਤ, ਨਿੱਡਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੈਂ ॥੧੨॥
ਖਾਣੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
khaanee banee tujheh samaanee.
O’ God, the beings from all the sources of creation and their words ultimately merge in You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਚੌਹਾਂ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਮਾ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਭ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
jo deesai sabh aavan jaanee.
All that is seen in the world, is subjected to the cycle of birth and death.
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ।
ਸੇਈ ਸਾਹ ਸਚੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
say-ee saah sachay vaapaaree satgur boojh bujhaa-ee hay. ||13||
All those whom the true Guru has imparted the righteous way of living are the wealthiest and true traders of Naam. ||13||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਕਦੇ ਘਾਟਾ ਨਾਹ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਹਨ ॥੧੩॥
ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
sabad bujhaa-ay satgur pooraa.
The perfect true Guru gives us this understanding through his divine word,
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਰਪੂਰਾ ॥
sarab kalaa saachay bharpooraa.
that the eternal God is all powerful and is pervading everywhere.
ਕਿ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ।
ਅਫਰਿਓ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
afri-o vayparvaahu sadaa too naa tis til na tamaa-ee hay. ||14||
O’ God! You are beyond our grasp and forever carefree; O’ brother, God does not have even an iota of greed. ||14||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਨਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਕਾਲੁ ਭਏ ਦੇਵਾਨੇ ॥
kaal bikaal bha-ay dayvaanay.
Birth and death are meaningless for the one,
ਜਨਮ ਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਝੱਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਹਮ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ),
ਸਬਦੁ ਸਹਜ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ॥
sabad sahj ras antar maanay.
who enshrines the divine word of God’s praises in his heart and enjoys the essence of the spiritual poise.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਵਰਦਾਤਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
aapay mukat taripat vardaataa bhagat bhaa-ay man bhaa-ee hay. ||15||
In whose mind, the devotional worship becomes pleasing, the benefactor God blesses him with liberation from vices and satiation from worldly desires. ||15||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਤੋਂ) ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਮ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
aap niraalam gur gam gi-aanaa.
O’ God! You are detached from the worldly love, but one can realize You through the Guru’s teachings.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੈਂ। ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਤੁਝ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
jo deesai tujh maahi samaanaa.
O’ God, whatever is visible in the world, ultimately merges into You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਚੈ ਮੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥
naanak neech bhikhi-aa dar jaachai mai deejai naam vadaa-ee hay. ||16||1||
O’ God! Nanak, the lowly, begs for charity of Naam from You; please bless me with the glorious greatness of Your Name. ||16||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ ॥੧੬॥੧॥

ਆਪੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਧਉਲੁ ਅਕਾਸੰ ॥
aapay Dhartee Dha-ul akaasaN.
God Himself is the earth, Himself the mythical bull and Himself the sky.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਾਸੰ ॥
aapay saachay gun pargaasaN.
God Himself reveals His eternal virtues.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
jatee satee santokhee aapay aapay kaar kamaa-ee hay. ||1||
God Himself is celibate, giver and contented; He is the doer of deeds. ||1||
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਤੀ, ਦਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜਤ ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਦੇ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਦੀ) ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
jis karnaa so kar kar vaykhai.
God who has created this universe, creating again and again He looks after it.
ਜਿਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਰਚਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਚ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
ko-ay na maytai saachay laykhai.
No one can erase the command of the eternal God.
ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਲੰਘ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
aapay karay karaa-ay aapay aapay day vadi-aa-ee hay. ||2||
He Himself does and makes others do everything; He Himself bestows glory to the one whom He blesses His Name. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕੰਮ) ਕਰਵਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਦਰ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਚੰਚਲ ਚਿਤੁ ਚਾਲਹਿ ॥
panch chor chanchal chit chaaleh.
The five thieves (lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego) cause the fickle mind to waver.
ਚੁਲਬੁਲੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਮਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੰਜ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਚੋਰ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਡੁਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਰ ਘਰ ਜੋਹਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਲਹਿ ॥
par ghar joheh ghar nahee bhaaleh.
Swayed by these five vices, people look into others’ property with evil intentions; they do not search their own heart.
(ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਚੋਰਾਂ ਦੋ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ) ਉਹ ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰ ਤੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੋਜਦੇ।
ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੁ ਢਹੈ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
kaa-i-aa nagar dhahai dheh dhayree bin sabdai pat jaa-ee hay. ||3||
Their bodies starts becoming weak and is ultimately ruined; their honor is lost without following the Guru’s word. ||3||
ਉਹਨਾ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਢਹਿ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਢਹਿ ਕੇ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਖੋਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
gur tay boojhai taribhavan soojhai.
One who receives spiritual wisdom from the Guru, realizes God pervading in the three worlds (universe).
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੈ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝੈ ॥
mansaa maar manai si-o loojhai.
He struggles with his mind and keeps his worldly desires under control.
ਉਹ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਕ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਤੁਧ ਹੀ ਜੇਹੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਬਾਲ ਸਖਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
jo tuDh sayveh say tuDh hee jayhay nirbha-o baal sakhaa-ee hay. ||4||
O’ God, those who lovingly remember You, become like You; You, the fear free, become their companion for ever. ||4||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਨਾ ਡਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥
ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲਾ ॥
aapay surag machh pa-i-aalaa.
God Himself is the heaven, this world and the nether regions of the world.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਗ-ਲੋਕ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਤ-ਲੋਕ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਤਾਲ-ਲੋਕ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੀ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
aapay jot saroopee baalaa.
He Himself is the divine light and the highest of all (forever young).
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੀ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਟਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ਸਰੂਪੀ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਕਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
jataa bikat bikraal saroopee roop na raykh-i-aa kaa-ee hay. ||5||
God himself adopts the form of a yogi with matted hair and sometimes adopts the most dreadful form, and yet He has no definite form or features. ||5||
ਭਿਆਨਕ ਤੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੀਆਂ ਜਟਾਂ ਧਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਚਿਹਨ-ਚੱਕ੍ਰ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬੀ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
bayd kataybee bhayd na jaataa.
Neither the Vedas nor Semitic books (Bible, Quran, and Torah), have understood the mystery of God.
ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਧਰਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਮੀ ਮਤਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦੀ ਡੂੰਘਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ॥
naa tis maat pitaa sut bharaataa.
God has no mother, father, children or siblings.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਭਰਾ ਹਨ।
ਸਗਲੇ ਸੈਲ ਉਪਾਇ ਸਮਾਏ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਣਾ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
saglay sail upaa-ay samaa-ay alakh na lakh-naa jaa-ee hay. ||6||
God creates all the mountains and then at will, he absorbs them into Himself; He is incomprehensible and cannot be described. ||6||
ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜਦੋਂ ਚਾਹੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਬਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੬॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਮੀਤ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥
kar kar thaakee meet ghanayray.
I am exhausted making innumerable friends like angels, and gods,
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ (ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਹਾਰ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ,
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਾਟੈ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
ko-ay na kaatai avgun mayray.
but no one could eradicate my sins and vices.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕੋਈ (ਅਜੇਹਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ) ਮੇਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਿਆ।
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਨਾਥੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
sur nar naath saahib sabhnaa sir bhaa-ay milai bha-o jaa-ee hay. ||7||
All the fears of that person goes away who realizes God, the Master of all angels and humans, through loving devotion. ||7||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ। ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਹਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਭੂਲੇ ਚੂਕੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
bhoolay chookay maarag paavahi.
O’ God, You show the right path to those who are lost and strayed from the righteous path of life.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਔਝੜੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ਤੂਹੈ ਸਮਝਾਵਹਿ ॥
aap bhulaa-ay toohai samjhaavahi.
You Yourself mislead and then Yourself give them right understanding.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਿੱਧੇ ਰਾਹ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
bin naavai mai avar na deesai naavhu gat mit paa-ee hay. ||8||
Except Naam, I do not see any way to escape from the unrighteous path in life; the true virtues of God are realized only by remembering Him with adoration. ||8||
(ਔਝੜ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਵਸੀਲਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ (ਦਇਆਲ) ਹੈਂ, ਅਤੇ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ (ਬੇਅੰਤ) ਹੈਂ ॥੮॥
