ਰੇਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
rayn santan kee mayrai mukh laagee.
My forehead has been anointed with the dust of the saints’ feet.(I have been blessed with humble service of the saints.)
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਕੁਬੁਧਿ ਅਭਾਗੀ ॥
durmat binsee kubuDh abhaagee.
My evil-mindedness is destroyed, and my false-knowledge has disappeared.
ਮੇਰੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਕੋਝੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਚ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਰਹੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਕੂਰਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੧੮॥
sach ghar bais rahay gun gaa-ay naanak binsay kooraa jee-o. ||4||11||18||
O’ Nanak, in a state of true concentration of mind, I sing God’s praises. In this way, all my falsehood (love for Maya) has been destroyed.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ l ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਾਲੇ ਝੂਠ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ l

Raag Maajh, by the Fifth Guru:
ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਏਵਡ ਦਾਤੇ ॥
visar naahee ayvad daatay.
O’ the supreme Giver, let me never forget You.
ਹੇ ਇਤਨੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਭੁਲਾਵਾਂ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਗਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
kar kirpaa bhagtan sang raatay.
O’ the Cherisher of devotees, Please show mercy on me.
ਹੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ।
ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਜਿਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਏਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਰਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
dinas rain ji-o tuDh Dhi-aa-ee ayhu daan mohi karnaa jee-o. ||1||
Please, bestow this gift on me that day and night I may lovingly meditate on You.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ ਕਿ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ l
ਮਾਟੀ ਅੰਧੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
maatee anDhee surat samaa-ee.
(O’ God), You have infused intellect in the body made of clay.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਸਾਡੇ ਇਸ) ਜੜ੍ਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਚੇਤਨਤਾ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੀਆ ਭਲੀਆ ਜਾਈ ॥
sabh kichh dee-aa bhalee-aa jaa-ee.
You have given us everything, including comfortable places to live.
ਤੂੰ (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਚੰਗੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਚੋਜ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
anad binod choj tamaasay tuDh bhaavai so honaa jee-o. ||2||
You have blessed us with all kinds of joys, plays and pleasures. Whatever pleases You, come to pass.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਖੇਡ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜੋ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਲੈਣਾ ॥
jis daa ditaa sabh kichh lainaa.
We should never forget the One by whose grace, we receive the gifts
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੀ ਵਿਸਾਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l
ਛਤੀਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਣਾ ॥
chhateeh amrit bhojan khaanaa.
We enjoy many kinds of delicious foods,
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਅਸੀਂ ਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ,
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਪਵਣਾ ਸਹਜ ਕੇਲ ਰੰਗ ਕਰਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
sayj sukhaalee seetal pavnaa sahj kayl rang karnaa jee-o. ||3||
And cozy beds, cooling breezes, spontaneous joys and the experience of pleasure.
ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਸੇਜ,ਠੰਢੀ ਹਵਾ ਅਸੀਂ ਮਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਬੇਫ਼ਿਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਖੇਡ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ l
ਸਾ ਬੁਧਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
saa buDh deejai jit visrahi naahee.
O’ God, give me such wisdom, that I may not forget You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੇ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਭੁਲਾਵਾਂ।
ਸਾ ਮਤਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
saa mat deejai jit tuDh Dhi-aa-ee.
Give me such an understanding, by which I may remember You with loving devotion.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਹ, ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਓਟ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੧੯॥
saas saas tayray gun gaavaa ot naanak gur charnaa jee-o. ||4||12||19||
Nanak says, please bless me the Guru’s shelter (teachings), so that with every breath, I may sing Your praises.
ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ- ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੇਹ, ਤਾਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ l
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Maajh, by the Fifth Guru:
ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਣੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥
sifat saalaahan tayraa hukam rajaa-ee.
O’ God, to cheerfully act in accordance with Your will is Your true praise.
ਹੇ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ (ਸਿਰ-ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੰਨਣਾ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
so gi-aan Dhi-aan jo tuDh bhaa-ee.
That which pleases You is is the true wisdom and meditation.
ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਲਾਈ ਜਾਨਣਾ) ਇਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ ਇਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੋਈ ਜਪੁ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਪੂਰ ਗਿਆਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
so-ee jap jo parabh jee-o bhaavai bhaanai poor gi-aanaa jee-o. ||1||
That which pleases God is the true meditation; to be in harmony with His Will is the perfect wisdom.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੀ) ਅਸਲ ਜਪ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੋਈ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ ਜੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
amrit naam tayraa so-ee gaavai. jo saahib tayrai man bhaavai.
O’ God, he alone sings Your Ambrosial Naam, who is pleasing to You.
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
tooN santan kaa sant tumaaray sant saahib man maanaa jee-o. ||2||
O’ Master, You belong to the Saints, and the Saints belong to You. The minds of the Saints are attuned to You.
ਹੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ (ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਹੈਂ, ਸੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ (ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥
tooN santan kee karahi partipaalaa.
O’ God, You cherish and nurture the Saints.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸੰਤ ਖੇਲਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
sant khayleh tum sang gopaalaa.
The saints always enjoy spiritual bliss in Your remembrance.
ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਧੁ ਖਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੂ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
apunay sant tuDh kharay pi-aaray too santan kay paraanaa jee-o. ||3||
Your Saints are very dear to You. You are the breath of life of the Saints.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਨ ਹੈਂ l
ਉਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੇ ॥
un santan kai mayraa man kurbaanay.
My mind is dedicated to those Saints,
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਨ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਤਾ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਨੇ ॥
jin tooN jaataa jo tuDh man bhaanay.
who have realized You and are pleasing to You.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ) ਜੇਹੜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੦॥
tin kai sang sadaa sukh paa-i-aa har ras naanak taripat aghaanaa jee-o. ||4||13||20||
O’ Nanak, In the company of Saints I have found everlasting lasting peace, and with the nectar of God’s Name I am fully satiated from Maya.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਸੁਖ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੱਜ ਤੇ ਧ੍ਰਾਪ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।

ਤੂੰ ਜਲਨਿਧਿ ਹਮ ਮੀਨ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
tooN jalniDh ham meen tumaaray.
O’ God, You are like an Ocean, and we are like the fish in that ocean.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ (ਜੀਵ) ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਮੱਛੀਆਂ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੂੰਦ ਹਮ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਤਿਖਹਾਰੇ ॥
tayraa naam boond ham chaatrik tikhhaaray.
Your Name is like the celestial drop of rain, and we are like the thirsty rainbirds.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤੀ ਨਛੱਤ੍ਰ ਦੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਦੀ) ਬੂੰਦ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ (ਜੀਵ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਪਿਆਸੇ ਪਪੀਹੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
tumree aas pi-aasaa tumree tum hee sang man leenaa jee-o. ||1||
O’ God, I hope to unite with You and I long for nectar like Naam. It is only with You that my mind is attuned.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਹੈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਲ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਹੈ l ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ l
ਜਿਉ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਪੀ ਖੀਰੁ ਅਘਾਵੈ ॥
ji-o baarik pee kheer aghaavai.
Just as the baby is satiated by drinking milk,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੰਞਾਣਾ ਬਾਲ (ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਧ ਪੀ ਕੇ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਉ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
ji-o nirDhan Dhan daykh sukh paavai.
and a pauper is pleased at the sight of wealth,
ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਕੋਈ) ਕੰਗਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਿਲਿਆ) ਧਨ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾਵੰਤ ਜਲੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਠੰਢਾ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
tarikhaavaNt jal peevat thandhaa ti-o har sang ih man bheenaa jee-o. ||2||
a thirsty person feels comforted on drinking cold water, similarly my mind feels satiated in God’s company (holy congregation).
ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿਹਾਇਆ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਸੀਤਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਤਰੋਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਐਨ ਐਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਭਿੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੈ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
ji-o anDhi-aarai deepak pargaasaa.
Just as the darkness is lit up by the lamp,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਦੀਵਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਰਤਾ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਾ ॥
bhartaa chitvat pooran aasaa.
and the hopes of the wife are fulfilled by thinking about her husband,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਿਉ ਹੋਤ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
mil pareetam ji-o hot anandaa ti-o har rang man rangeenaa jee-o. ||3||
and upon meeting her beloved she feels happy, similarly my mind is blissfully imbued with the love of God.
ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸੰਤਨ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
santan mo ka-o har maarag paa-i-aa.
The Saints have set me upon the Path leading to union with God.
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ (ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇ) ਰਸਤੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਗਿਝਾਇਆ ॥
saaDh kirpaal har sang gijhaa-i-aa.
It is the merciful Guru’s teachings which has accustomed me to the love of God.
ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਗੇਝ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਮਰਾ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਚੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੨੧॥
har hamraa ham har kay daase nanak shabad guru sach deenaa jee-o. ||4||14||21||
O’ Nanak, now God is mine, and I am his devotee. The Guru has blessed me with the divine word of God’s praises.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹੁਣ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ l
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Maajh, by the Fifth Guru:
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੀਆ ॥
amrit naam sadaa nirmalee-aa.
The Ambrosial Naam, is always immaculate.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਮਈ ਨਾਮ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਡਾਰਨ ਹਰੀਆ ॥
sukh-daa-ee dookh bidaaran haree-aa.
God is the giver of peace and dispeller of sorrow.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁੱਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਵਰਿ ਸਾਦ ਚਖਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੇਖੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਮੀਠਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
avar saad chakh saglay daykhay man har ras sabh tay meethaa jee-o. ||1||
I have tried and tasted all other relishes, but I find the nectar of God’s Name to be the sweetest of all.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਹੋਰ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ
