ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪੧॥
naanak kee parabh bayntee har bhaavai bakhas milaa-ay. ||41||
Nanak offers this prayer: O’ God, as You wish, please forgive people and unite them with Yourself. ||41||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ॥੪੧॥
ਮਨ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਨਾ ਸੁਝੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥
man aavan jaan na sujh-ee naa sujhai darbaar.
O’ my mind, you are oblivious of the cycle of birth and death, and do not even remember the presence of God
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਭੀ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਲੇਟਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi palayti-aa antar agi-aan gubaar.
You remain entangled in the love for materialism and have darkness of spiritual ignorance within you.
ਤੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਬ ਨਰੁ ਸੁਤਾ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡੁ ਲਗਾ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਰੁ ॥
tab nar sutaa jaagi-aa sir dand lagaa baho bhaar.
One awakens from this slumber of love for Maya only when he is so miserable, as if he is struck on the head with a heavy club of the judge of righteousness.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੋਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਤਕੜਾ ਕਰਾਰਾ ਡੰਡਾ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਕਰਾਂ ਉਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿਆ ਸੇ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
gurmukhaaN karaaN upar har chayti-aa say paa-in mokh du-aar.
The Guru’s followers remember God all the time like saying the rosary, and find the path to freedom from the love for Maya.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਾਲਾ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਓਹਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਤਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ॥੪੨॥
naanak aap ohi uDhray sabh kutamb taray parvaar. ||42||
O’ Nanak, they themselves and all the spiritual companions from their relatives and families swim across the world ocean of vices. ||42||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਆਪ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ-ਕੁਟੰਬ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਭੀ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪੨॥
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋ ਮੁਆ ਜਾ ਪੈ ॥
sabad marai so mu-aa jaapai.
One who controls his vices through the Guru’s divine word, he remains unaffected by the vices and becomes renowned in the world.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ॥
gur parsaadee har ras Dharaapai.
By the Guru’s grace and the sublime essence of God’s Name, he gets satiated from the worldly desires.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ॥
har dargahi gur sabad sinjaapai.
By virtue of the Guru’s world, he is honored in God’s presence.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਸਤਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੁਆ ਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
bin sabdai mu-aa hai sabh ko-ay.
Everyone remains spiritually dead without following the Guru’s divine word.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਮੁਆ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੋਇ ॥
manmukh mu-aa apunaa janam kho-ay.
A self-willed person remains spiritually deteriorated, wasting human life in vain.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਜ਼ਾਈਂ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਇ ॥
har naam na cheeteh ant dukh ro-ay.
Those who do not remember God’s Name, keep describing their misery till the end of their life.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ, ਉਹ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ) ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਤਕ (ਆਪਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ) ਦੁੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਰੋਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪੩॥
naanak kartaa karay so ho-ay. ||43||
O’ Nanak, only that comes to pass, which the Creator does. ||43||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪੩॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਢੇ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
gurmukh budhay kaday naahee jinHaa antar surat gi-aan.
The Guru’s followers, whose mind is always focused on God’s Name and within whom is the spiritual wisdom, never become spiritually weak.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਕਦੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ l
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
sadaa sadaa har gun raveh antar sahj Dhi-aan.
They always utter God’s praises, remain in a state of spiritual poise and within their mind remains God’s remembrance.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਓਇ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਰਹਹਿ ਦੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥
o-ay sadaa anand bibayk raheh dukh sukh ayk samaan.
They dwell forever in blissful discerning intellect; they remain in the same steady state of mind both in sorrow and pleasure.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਦੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਨਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਇਕੋ ਆਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥੪੪॥
tinaa nadree iko aa-i-aa sabh aatam raam pachhaan. ||44||
They visualize every where only the all pervading God who is the companion of all. ||44||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪੪॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
manmukh baalak biraDh samaan hai jinHaa antar har surat naahee.
A self-willed person, though physically strong like a youth, is spiritually weak like an old person. They within whom there is no awareness of God,
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਰੋਏ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਅੰਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਭੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਬੁੱਢੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਰਗਾ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ,
ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਸਭ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਾਂਹੀ ॥
vich ha-umai karam kamaavday sabh Dharam raa-ay kai jaaNhee.
perform even their religious deeds in egotism; they all face the Judge of the righteousness.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਕਰਮ (ਭੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੀ) ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਛੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
gurmukh hachhay nirmalay gur kai sabad subhaa-ay.
The Guru’s followers, through his word, develop love for God and their life becomes virtuous and immaculate.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਓਨਾ ਮੈਲੁ ਪਤੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਜਿ ਚਲਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
onaa mail patang na lag-ee je chalan satgur bhaa-ay.
Not even a bit of the filth of vices sticks to those who lead their life in harmony with the will of the true Guru.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਚਾਲ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਣ ਪਾਇ ॥
manmukh jooth na utrai jay sa-o Dhovan paa-ay.
The impurity of vices is not washed off the mind of self-willed persons, even if they attempt to cleanse themselves hundreds of times.
ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜੂਠ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ) ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਸੌ ਵਾਰੀ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਧੋਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪੫॥
naanak gurmukh mayli-an gur kai ank samaa-ay. ||45||
O’ Nanak, God has united the Guru’s followers with Himself by absorbing them in the Guru’s teachings. ||45||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪੫॥
ਬੁਰਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਸਿਝੈ ॥
buraa karay so kayhaa sijhai.
One who indulges in evil deeds, how can he be considered successful?
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਦੀ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾਹੋ?
ਆਪਣੈ ਰੋਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਦਝੈ ॥
aapnai rohi aapay hee dajhai.
Such a person burns in the fire of his own anger.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਗੁੱਸੇ (ਦੀ ਅੱਗ) ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਮਲਾ ਰਗੜੈ ਲੁਝੈ ॥
manmukh kamlaa ragrhai lujhai.
The self-willed foolish person continuously fights with others.
ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਝੱਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖਹਿੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੁਝੈ ॥
gurmukh ho-ay tis sabh kichh sujhai.
But the Guru’s follower understands everything about good and bad.
(ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਛ ਪਤਾ ਹੂੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਲੁਝੈ ॥੪੬॥
naanak gurmukh man si-o lujhai. ||46||
O’ Nanak, the Guru’s follower wrestles with evil thoughts of his own mind. ||46||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪੬॥
ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕੀਤੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
jinaa satgur purakh na sayvi-o sabad na keeto veechaar.
Those who have not reflected on the divine word and have not followed the teachings of the omnipotent true Guru,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਫੜੀ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਿਆ,
ਓਇ ਮਾਣਸ ਜੂਨਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਨਿ ਪਸੂ ਢੋਰ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
o-ay maanas joon na aakhee-an pasoo dhor gaavaar.
they should not be called humans because spiritually they are ignorant, and are like animals, dead beasts and big fools.
ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੂਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਏ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ, ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮਹਾਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਨ।
ਓਨਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
onaa antar gi-aan na Dhi-aan hai har sa-o pareet na pi-aar.
Within them is neither spiritual wisdom nor any focus on God; they do not have any love or affection for God.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਹੈ, ਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥
manmukh mu-ay vikaar meh mar jameh vaaro vaar.
Such self-willed persons deteriorate spiritually due to their evil deeds, and continue to go through the cycle of birth and death.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁ ਜੀਵਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
jeevdi-aa no milai so jeevday har jagjeevan ur Dhaar.
Those who meet the spiritually awakened, become spiritually alive by enshrining God, the life of the world, in their hearts.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੪੭॥
naanak gurmukh sohnay tit sachai darbaar. ||47||
O’ Nanak, the Guru’s followers are honored in that eternal God’s presence. ||47||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖਿ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ (ਰੱਬੀ) ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪੭॥
ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
har mandar har saaji-aa har vasai jis naal.
God has created this human body as a temple in which He Himself resides.
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ-) ਹਰਿ-ਮੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਆਪ) ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ-ਹਰਿਮੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਰਜਾਲਿ ॥
gurmatee har paa-i-aa maa-i-aa moh parjaal.
Only some fortunate person has realized God by following the Guru’s teachings and totally burning the love for Maya, the worldly riches and power.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇ (ਅੰਦਰ-ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ।,
ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੇਕ ਹੈ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
har mandar vasat anayk hai nav niDh naam samaal.
In the temple of God (the human body), is the commodity of Naam, which has innumerable virtues; guard this Naam, it is like all the treasures of the world.
ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਰੂਪ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕ ਗੁਣਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਾਮ ਵਸਤੂ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਨਿਧੀਏ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਰਖ l
ਧਨੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
Dhan bhagvantee naankaa jinaa gurmukh laDhaa har bhaal.
O’ Nanak, praiseworthy are those fortunate people who by following the Guru’s teachings have searched and realized God.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਖੋਜ ਕੇ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ।
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੜ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੪੮॥
vadbhaagee garh mandar khoji-aa har hirdai paa-i-aa naal. ||48||
Those fortunate persons who have searched their fort like body, the temple of God, and have realized that God is within their heart. ||48||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਰੀਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਜਿਆ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ॥੪੮॥
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਅਤਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
manmukh dah dis fir rahay at tisnaa lobh vikaar.
Engrossed in the intense desire for Maya, greed and vices, the self-willed people are wandering everywhere in all the ten directions.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ, ਲਾਲਚ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
