ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥
maa-i-aa moh na chuk-ee mar jameh vaaro vaar.
As long as their love for Maya does not end, they keep going through the cycle of birth and death.
(ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਤਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
satgur sayv sukh paa-i-aa at tisnaa taj vikaar.
Those, who have found inner peace by following the true Guru’s teachings, and renouncing extreme worldly desires and vices:
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੪੯॥
janam maran kaa dukh ga-i-aa jan naanak sabad beechaar. ||49||
O’ devotee Nanak, they have escaped the pain of going through the cycle of birth and death by reflecting on the Guru’s word. ||49||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪੯॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
har har naam Dhi-aa-ay man har dargeh paavahi maan.
O’ my mind, always remember God’s Name with adoration, you will be honored in God’s presence.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ।
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਸਭਿ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
kilvikh paap sabh katee-ah ha-umai chukai gumaan.
All one’s sins are eradicated and one’s egotism and arrogance vanish (by lovingly remembering God).
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਐਬ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥
gurmukh kamal vigsi-aa sabh aatam barahm pachhaan.
By following the Guru’s teachings, the heart blooms like a lotus and one visualizes the all pervading God everywhere as his companion.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ) ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੫੦॥
har har kirpaa Dhaar parabh jan naanak jap har naam. ||50||
O’ God, bestow mercy, so that Your devotee Nanak may always keep remembering Your Name with loving devotion. ||50||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੫੦॥
ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਧਨਵੰਤੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਜਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
Dhanaasree Dhanvantee jaanee-ai bhaa-ee jaaN satgur kee kaar kamaa-ay.
O’ brother, we should consider one blessed and spiritually rich only when one follows the true Guru’s teachings,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪੇ ਜੀਅ ਸਉ ਭਾਈ ਲਏ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਫਿਰਾਉ ॥
tan man sa-upay jee-a sa-o bhaa-ee la-ay hukam firaa-o.
O’ brother, when one surrenders one’s body and mind along with one’s life to the Guru, and lives by the Guru’s command,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਸਮੇਤ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ-ਤੋਰ ਤੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਹ ਬੈਸਾਵਹਿ ਬੈਸਹ ਭਾਈ ਜਹ ਭੇਜਹਿ ਤਹ ਜਾਉ ॥
jah baisaaveh baisah bhaa-ee jah bhayjeh tah jaa-o.
O’ brother, we sit where God wishes us to sit; I go wherever He sends me.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਠਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਏਵਡੁ ਧਨੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਈ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
ayvad Dhan hor ko nahee bhaa-ee jayvad sachaa naa-o.
O’ brother, there is no other wealth as precious as God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (-ਧਨ) ਜਿਤਨਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਹੈ, ਇਤਨਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sadaa sachay kay gun gaavaaN bhaa-ee sadaa sachay kai sang rahaa-o.
O’ brother, I always sing praises of the eternal God and keep remembering Him, and thus I always remain with Him.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਪੈਨਣੁ ਗੁਣ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਭਾਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਸਾਦ ਆਪੇ ਖਾਇ ॥
painan gun chang-aa-ee-aa bhaa-ee aapnee pat kay saad aapay khaa-ay.
O’ brother, one who has the goodness of God’s virtues within his heart, receives such honor that he alone enjoys the delight of that honor.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਬੀ ਗੁਣਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ-ਆਦਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਸ ਮਿਲੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
tis kaa ki-aa salaahee-ai bhaa-ee darsan ka-o bal jaa-ay.
O’ brother, what can we say in praise of such a person who is simply dedicated to God’s blessed vision.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ (ਪੂਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਕੀਤੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਤੋਂ (ਸਦਾ) ਸਦਕੇ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਡੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਭਾਈ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਪਾਇ ॥
satgur vich vadee-aa vadi-aa-ee-aa bhaa-ee karam milai taaN paa-ay.
O’ brother, the true Guru has infinite virtues; with God’s grace, when any person meets the Guru and follows his teachings then that person attains these virtues.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਇਹ ਗੁਣ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਕਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਭਾਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥
ik hukam man na jaannee bhaa-ee doojai bhaa-ay firaa-ay.
O’ brother, there are many people who wander around in love for Maya and don’t know how to obey the Guru’s command.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰ ਕਈ ਬੰਦੇ (ਐਸੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ।
ਸੰਗਤਿ ਢੋਈ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਾਈ ਬੈਸਣਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਨ ਥਾਉ ॥
sangat dho-ee naa milai bhaa-ee baisan milai na thaa-o.
O’ brother, such persons neither gain support in the company of saintly people, nor a place to sit in the holy congregation.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਣ ਲਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਮਨਾਇਸੀ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਨਾ ਧੁਰੇ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਉ ॥
naanak hukam tinaa manaa-isee bhaa-ee jinaa Dhuray kamaa-i-aa naa-o.
O’ Nanak, (say), O’ brother! God makes only those people to obey His command who have remembered His Name as pre-ordained according to their past deeds.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ (ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੀ) ਰਜ਼ਾ (ਮਿੱਠੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮਨਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਨ੍ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੫੧॥
tinH vitahu ha-o vaari-aa bhaa-ee tin ka-o sad balihaarai jaa-o. ||51||
O’ brother! I am dedicated and forever devoted to those people (who have obeyed the Divine command). ||51||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੫੧॥
ਸੇ ਦਾੜੀਆਂ ਸਚੀਆ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਗੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥
say daarhee-aaN sachee-aa je gur charnee lagaNniH.
The faces of those men are truly worthy of honor who humbly bow to the Guru and follow his teachings and totally surrender to him).
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਹ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਆਦਰ-ਸਤਕਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੱਕਦਾਰ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਅਨਦਿ ਰਹੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥
an-din sayvan gur aapnaa an-din anad rahaNniH.
Those who always follow their Guru’s teachings and always remain in a state of spiritual bliss:
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਮੁਹ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਿ ਦਿਸੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥੫੨॥
naanak say muh sohnay sachai dar disaNniH. ||52||
O’ Nanak, their faces are the only ones that look elegant in God’s presence. |52||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ) ਇਹ ਮੂੰਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੫੨॥
ਮੁਖ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੁ ਦਾੜੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
mukh sachay sach daarhee-aa sach boleh sach kamaahi.
The faces and beards of those are worthy of honor, who speak truth and lovingly remember the eternal God.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਸਤਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਹੱਕਦਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਾੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਆਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੱਕਦਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਚ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਂਹਿ ਸਮਾਂਹਿ ॥
sachaa sabad man vasi-aa satgur maaNhi samaaNhi.
Within whose mind is enshrined the divine word of God’s praises, they always remain focused on the true Guru’s teachings.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੀ ਰਾਸੀ ਸਚੁ ਧਨੁ ਉਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਂਹਿ ॥
sachee raasee sach Dhan utam padvee paaNhi.
They attain the capital and wealth of eternal God’s Name, and the supreme spiritual status.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈਨਿ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
sach suneh sach man lain sachee kaar kamaahi.
Those who listen only to eternal God’s Name, enshrine God’s Name within them with faith and practice the true deed of remembering God with adoration.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਦਕ-ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ|
ਸਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਣਾ ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
sachee dargeh baisnaa sachay maahi samaahi.
They receive a place of honor in God’s presence and always remain absorbed in remembering God.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ-ਸਤਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥੫੩॥
naanak vin satgur sach na paa-ee-ai manmukh bhoolay jaaNhi. ||53||
O’ Nanak, God is not realized without following the true Guru’s teachings, and the self-willed persons keep going astray from righteous living. ||53||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ) ਗ਼ਲਤ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੫੩॥
ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਕਰੇ ਜਲਨਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
baabeehaa pari-o pari-o karay jalniDh paraym pi-aar.
Like a rain-bird, a Guru’s follower continues to call out the name of his Beloved God, and cries with love and affection for the treasure of water of God’s Name.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਪਪੀਹਾ ਬੱਦਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਵਰਖਾ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ‘ਪ੍ਰਿਉ, ਪ੍ਰਿਉ’ ਪੁਕਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ,
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੀਤਲ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
gur milay seetal jal paa-i-aa sabh dookh nivaaranhaar.
and upon meeting the Guru, he receives the soothing water of Naam, which has the ability to destroy all sorrows,
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਠੰਢ ਵਰਤਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸ ਚੁਕੈ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
tis chukai sahj oopjai chukai kook pukaar.
then his yearning for worldly pleasures ends, spiritual poise wells up in his mind, and all his anguish ends.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਘਬਰਾਹਟ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੫੪॥
naanak gurmukh saaNt ho-ay naam rakhahu ur Dhaar. ||54||
O’ Nanak, enshrine God’s Name in the heart through the Guru’s teachings, by doing this, the mind becomes peaceful and tranquil. ||54||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰਖੋ, ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫੪॥
ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਚੁ ਚਉ ਸਚੇ ਸਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
baabeehaa tooN sach cha-o sachay sa-o liv laa-ay.
O’ rain bird-like Guru’s follower, you continue to recite God’s Name, and keep your mind focused on the eternal God.
ਹੇ ਪਪੀਹੇ ਰੂਪ ਜਗਿਆਸੁ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਬੋਲਿਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਲਾਇ ॥
boli-aa tayraa thaa-ay pavai gurmukh ho-ay alaa-ay.
Follow the Guru’s teachings and recite God’s Name, only then your utterance will be accepted in God’s presence.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ) ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ) ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਉੱਦਮ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਤਿਖ ਉਤਰੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
sabad cheen tikh utrai man lai rajaa-ay.
Understand the Guru’s word and accept God’s will, by doing so the yearning for worldly desires ends.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਭਲਾ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਕਰ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
