ਆਤਮਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਪੂਜਨੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
aatmaa raam na poojnee doojai ki-o sukh ho-ay.
They do not remember the all-pervading God, so how can they find any peace by remaining engrossed in the love for Maya?
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ। (ਭਲਾ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਖ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਹਉਮੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਹੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਾਢਹਿ ਧੋਇ ॥
ha-umai antar mail hai sabad na kaadheh Dho-ay.
They have filth of ego within them, and they do not wash it away with the Guru’s divine word.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਧੋ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੱਢਦੇ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੈਲਿਆ ਮੁਏ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਖੋਇ ॥੨੦॥
naanak bin naavai maili-aa mu-ay janam padaarath kho-ay. ||20||
O’ Nanak, bereft of Naam, they remain soiled with vices, spiritually deteriorate and waste their precious human life. ||20||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੦॥
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੋਲੇ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਅਗਨੀ ਕਾ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
manmukh bolay anDhulay tis meh agnee kaa vaas.
The self-willed persons ignore divine wisdom, as if they are deaf and blind, because within them is the fire of worldly desires and ego.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ (ਸੁਰਤ) ਵਿਚ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਹ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਤੇ ਬੋਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨ ਬੁਝਨੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
banee surat na bujhnee sabad na karahi pargaas.
They neither know how to fix their attention on the Guru’s divine word, nor enlighten their minds through it.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।
ਓਨਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਸੁ ॥
onaa aapnee andar suDh nahee gur bachan na karahi visaas.
They neither have any spiritual awareness of their own, nor they trust the Guru’s divine word.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆਉਂਦੇ।
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
gi-aanee-aa andar gur sabad hai nit har liv sadaa vigaas.
The Guru’s word resides in the minds of those who have the wisdom of spiritual life; by focusing their minds on God, they are always in a state of bliss.
ਪਰ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਸਦਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਸਦਾ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਦਾ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਖਿੜਾਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਕੀ ਰਖਦਾ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਾਸੁ ॥
har gi-aanee-aa kee rakh-daa ha-o sad balihaaree taas.
God protects the honor of the divinely wise persons, and I am always dedicated to them.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ (ਇੱਜ਼ਤ) ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ॥੨੧॥
gurmukh jo har sayvday jan naanak taa kaa daas. ||21||
Devotee Nanak is the servant of those Guru’s followers who remember God with adoration. ||21||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੈ ॥੨੧॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਮੁ ਸਰਪੁ ਹੈ ਜਗੁ ਘੇਰਿਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇ ॥
maa-i-aa bhu-i-angam sarap hai jag ghayri-aa bikh maa-ay.
O’ my mother, the attachment to the poisonous cobra-like Maya causes spiritual deterioration, and it has clutched the world in its grip.
ਹੇ ਮਾਤਾ! ਮਾਇਆ ਸੱਪ ਹੈ ਵੱਡਾ ਸੱਪ। ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਦਾ ਭਰਿਆ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ-ਸੱਪ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਘੇਰੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਗਰੁੜ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
bikh kaa maaran har naam hai gur garurh sabad mukh paa-ay.
God’s Name is the antidote to this poisonous Maya; always recite the Guru’s word which like the Gaurer Mantra, the antidote for snake venom.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ ਇਸ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਮੁਕਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਹੀ) ਗਾਰੁੜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
jin ka-o poorab likhi-aa tin satgur mili-aa aa-ay.
Those who are blessed with such preordained destiny, the true Guru meets them and they follow his teachings,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਇਆ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥
mil satgur nirmal ho-i-aa bikh ha-umai ga-i-aa bilaa-ay.
Following the divine path of the true Guru, they become spiritually immaculate and the poison of their egotism is eradicated.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇ ॥
gurmukhaa kay mukh ujlay har dargeh sobhaa paa-ay.
The faces of the Guru’s followers are radiant and bright and they are honored in God’s presence.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਤਿਨ ਜੋ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥੨੨॥
jan naanak sadaa kurbaan tin jo chaaleh satgur bhaa-ay. ||22||
Devotee Nanak is always dedicated to those who lead their life in accordance with the will of the true Guru. ||22||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੨॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
satgur purakh nirvair hai nit hirdai har liv laa-ay.
The true Guru is such a great Being who has no enmity with anyone; he remembers God in his heart at all times.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਮਹਾ) ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਵੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਨ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਰਵੈਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਵੈਰੁ ਰਚਾਇਦਾ ਅਪਣੈ ਘਰਿ ਲੂਕੀ ਲਾਇ ॥
nirvairai naal vair rachaa-idaa apnai ghar lookee laa-ay.
Whosoever fosters enmity with the Guru, who does not have enmity with anybody, burns his own heart with jealousy.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਈਰਖਾ ਦੀ) ਚੁਆਤੀ ਬਾਲੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
antar kroDh ahaNkaar hai an-din jalai sadaa dukh paa-ay.
The fires of anger and ego are within him, in which he burns continually and suffers constant inner pain.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ (ਦਾ ਭਾਂਬੜ) ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਦਾ ਭਾਂਬੜ ਬਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ) ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਨਿਤ ਭਉਕਦੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਧੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
koorh bol bol nit bha-ukday bikh khaaDhay doojai bhaa-ay.
Those who scream like dogs, telling lie upon lie, are spiritually deteriorated as if their love of duality has led them to eat poison.
(ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ) ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਵਾਹੀ ਤਬਾਹੀ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਉਹ ਇਉਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਖਾਧੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
bikh maa-i-aa kaaran bharamday fir ghar ghar pat gavaa-ay.
For the sake of Maya, the poison for spiritual life, they wander from house to house losing their respect.
ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ-ਜ਼ਹਰ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਉਹ ਘਰ ਘਰ (ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ) ਤੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ (ਹੌਲੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬੇਸੁਆ ਕੇਰੇ ਪੂਤ ਜਿਉ ਪਿਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
baysu-aa kayray poot ji-o pitaa naam tis jaa-ay.
They are disgraced like the sons of a prostitute, whose father’s name is unknown.
ਉਹ ਵੇਸੁਆ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਵਾਂਗ (ਨੱਕ-ਵੱਢੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਗੁੰਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਨੀ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇ ॥
har har naam na chaytnee kartai aap khu-aa-ay.
They do not remember God’s Name because the Creator Himself has strayed them due to their past deeds.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀਅਨੁ ਜਨ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
har gurmukh kirpaa Dhaaree-an jan vichhurhay aap milaa-ay.
But the Guru’ followers have been blessed by God Himself and He unites those separated ones with Himself through the Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਪਾਇ ॥੨੩॥
jan naanak tis balihaarnai jo satgur laagay paa-ay. ||23||
Devotee Nanak is dedicated to those who follow the true Guru’s teachings.||23||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੩॥
ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੇ ਸੇ ਊਬਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥
naam lagay say oobray bin naavai jam pur jaaNhi.
Those who are focused on Naam, are saved from drowning in the worldly ocean of vices, but those who are devoid of Naam, face the demon of death and suffer.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ) ਬਚ ਗਏ। ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਆਇ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ॥੨੪॥
naanak bin naavai sukh nahee aa-ay ga-ay pachhutaahi. ||24||
O’ Nanak, without Naam, they do not find inner peace and they repent every time they come and go from the world. ||24||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ। (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਜਨਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹੀ) ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੪॥
ਚਿੰਤਾ ਧਾਵਤ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
chintaa Dhaavat reh ga-ay taaN man bha-i-aa anand.
The spiritual bliss welled up in the mind of only those who stopped wandering in the anxiety for Maya,
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਰਹੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੋਂ) ਹਟ ਗਏ,ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ,
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਸੁਤੀ ਨਿਚਿੰਦ ॥
gur parsaadee bujhee-ai saa Dhan sutee nichind.
but this can be understood only by the Guru’s grace, and any person who understands this, rejoices in a worry free life.
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
jin ka-o poorab likhi-aa tinHaa bhayti-aa gur govind.
Only those who have preordained destiny meet the Divine-Guru.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ॥੨੫॥
naanak sehjay mil rahay har paa-i-aa parmaanand. ||25||
O’ Nanak, they intuitively remain united with God and have attained sublime bliss. ||25|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸੁਭਾਵਿਕ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੇ ਪਰਮ ਅਨੰਦ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
satgur sayvan aapnaa gur sabdee veechaar.
Those who follow the teachings of their true Guru by reflecting on his word,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਘਾਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
satgur kaa bhaanaa man lain har naam rakheh ur Dhaar.
obey the true Guru’s will and keep God’s Name enshrined in their heart,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਸਿਰ-ਮੱਥੇ) ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਮੰਨੀਅਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਿ ॥
aithai othai mannee-an har naam lagay vaapaar.
and are dedicated to earn the wealth of God’s Name, are honored both here and hereafter.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਵਪਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਤਕਾਰੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪਦੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukh sabad sinjaapadai tit saachai darbaar.
The Guru’s followers gain recognition in God’s presence through the Guru’s word.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚਾ ਸਉਦਾ ਖਰਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਰਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sachaa sa-udaa kharach sach antar piram pi-aar.
They invest only in the merchandise of Naam, survive on the spiritual food of Naam and within them is true love for their beloved God.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ (ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ), ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ (ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਆਪਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
jamkaal nayrh na aavee aap bakhsay kartaar.
The Creator-God Himself has been gracious to them, therefore the fear of death does not come near them.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮੌਤ (ਦਾ ਡਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ
