ਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਕਤ ਦੂਰਿ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ॥
hai hajoor kat door bataavhu.
O’ Mullah, God is present everywhere, then why do you preach that He is located far away (in some seventh heaven).
(ਹੇ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ!) ਰੱਬ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ-ਨਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੈ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ (ਕਿਤੇ ਸਤਵੇਂ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਤੇ) ਕਿਉਂ (ਬੈਠਾ) ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹੋ?
ਦੁੰਦਰ ਬਾਧਹੁ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dundar baaDhhu sundar paavhu. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If you want to realize that beauteus God, just keep the demonic vices of your mind under control.
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਸੁਹਣੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਰੌਲਾ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਜੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥
kaajee so jo kaa-i-aa beechaarai.
He alone is a true Qazi who explores his own mind and body,
ਅਸਲ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਜੇ,
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਜਾਰੈ ॥
kaa-i-aa kee agan barahm parjaarai.
and illuminates his mind with the divine light,
ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਨੂੰ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਕਰੇ,
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਝਰਨਾ ॥
supnai bind na day-ee jharnaa.
and even in dreams, he doesn’t allow his impulses of lust control his mind.
ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਕਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਆਉਣ ਦੇਵੇ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਜੀ ਕਉ ਜਰਾ ਨ ਮਰਨਾ ॥੨॥
tis kaajee ka-o jaraa na marnaa. ||2||
Such a Qazi has no fear of old age or death. ||2||
ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਢੇਪੇ ਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਸੋ ਸੁਰਤਾਨੁ ਜੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਰ ਤਾਨੈ ॥
so surtaan jo du-ay sar taanai.
He alone is a true king, who keeps the two arrows of wisdom and detachment aimed,
ਅਸਲ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ (ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ) ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਦੇ) ਦੋ ਤੀਰ ਤਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਆਨੈ ॥
baahar jaataa bheetar aanai.
and brings his wandering mind under control.
ਬਾਹਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਲ ਲੈ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗਗਨ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
gagan mandal meh laskar karai.
He fills his mind with virtuous thoughts to fight against evil impulses, as if he gathers his armies in the sky of the mind.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਭਲੇ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਫੌਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਸੁਰਤਾਨੁ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਧਰੈ ॥੩॥
so surtaan chhatar sir Dharai. ||3||
Such a king deserves a canopy of respect and admiration over his head. ||3||
ਉਹ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ (ਅਸਲ) ਛਤਰ ਝੁਲਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜੋਗੀ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
jogee gorakh gorakh karai.
A yogi keeps repeating the name of his chief yogi, the Gorakh instead of God,
ਜੋਗੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਗੋਰਖ ਗੋਰਖ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥
hindoo raam naam uchrai.
a Hindu utters the Name of lord Rama,
ਹਿੰਦੂ (ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ) ਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਕਾ ਏਕੁ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥
musalmaan kaa ayk khudaa-ay.
a Muslim believes that his God belongs only to him,
ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਨੇ (ਸਤਵੇਂ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ) ਨਿਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ) ਰੱਬ ਮੰਨ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੧॥
kabeer kaa su-aamee rahi-aa samaa-ay. ||4||3||11||
but the Master of Kabir is the one God who is pervading everyone. ||4||3||11||
ਪਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਹੈ) ॥੪॥੩॥੧੧॥

Fifth Guru
ਜੋ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਕਹਤੇ ਦੇਵ ॥
jo paathar ka-o kahtay dayv.
Those who call the stone-idols as God,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੱਥਰ (ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ) ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੇਵ ॥
taa kee birthaa hovai sayv.
all their service and the labor worship goes waste.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀ ਪਾਂਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
jo paathar kee paaN-ee paa-ay.
Those who fall at the feet of a stone-idol,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੱਥਰ (ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ) ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਘਾਲ ਅਜਾਂਈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
tis kee ghaal ajaaN-ee jaa-ay. ||1||
all their labor goes in vain. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਸਦ ਬੋਲੰਤਾ ॥
thaakur hamraa sad bolantaa.
My Master-God always speaks,
ਸਾਡਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਦਾ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab jee-aa ka-o parabh daan daytaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and that God gives bounties to all beings. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦੇਉ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਅੰਧੁ ॥
antar day-o na jaanai anDh.
The spiritually ignorant person doesn’t realize that within us resides God,
ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ-ਵੱਸਦੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ,
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕਾ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਪਾਵੈ ਫੰਧੁ ॥
bharam kaa mohi-aa paavai fanDh.
deluded by illusion, one puts a noose of death around his neck by worshipping stone idols instead of God.
ਭਰਮ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ, ਆਦਮੀ ਪੱਥਰ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਗਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਪਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨ ਪਾਥਰੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
na paathar bolai naa kichh day-ay.
This stone idols neither utters anything, nor is capable of giving anything.
ਇਹ ਪੱਥਰ ਨਾਹ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਕੁਝ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਫੋਕਟ ਕਰਮ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਹੈ ਸੇਵ ॥੨॥
fokat karam nihfal hai sayv. ||2||
Therefore all the ritualistic deeds related to worshipping stone-idol are in vain, and fruitless is this service. ||2||
(ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਾਣ ਤੇ ਭੋਗ ਆਦਿਕ ਲਵਾਣ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਜੇ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਉ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਚੜਾਵੈ ॥
jay mirtak ka-o chandan charhaavai.
If a corpse is anointed with sandalwood perfume,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਦਨ (ਰਗੜ ਕੇ) ਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ,
ਉਸ ਤੇ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
us tay kahhu kavan fal paavai.
what good does it do to the corpse?
ਉਸ ਮੁਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ (ਇਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ) ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜੇ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਉ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਰੁਲਾਈ ॥
jay mirtak ka-o bistaa maahi rulaa-ee.
Or if a dead person is smeared in dust,
ਤੇ, ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੁਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੋਲ ਦੇਵੇ,
ਤਾਂ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
taaN mirtak kaa ki-aa ghat jaa-ee. ||3||
even then the corpse doesn’t lose anything. ||3||
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਮੁਰਦੇ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਉ ਕਹਉ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ॥
kahat kabeer ha-o kaha-o pukaar.
Says Kabeer, I proclaim this out loud
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ
ਸਮਝਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਸਾਕਤ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
samajh daykh saakat gaavaar.
behold and understand, you ignorant faithless cynic,
ਹੇ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮੂਰਖ! ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ,
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਘਰ ਗਾਲੇ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay bahut ghar gaalay.
The love of duality has ruined countless human beings,
ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤਬਾਹ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਾਲੇ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨॥
raam bhagat hai sadaa sukhaalay. ||4||4||12||
but God’s devotees are forever in bliss. ||4||4||12||
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹੀ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਹਨ’ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨॥
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਮੀਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬੇਧੇ ॥
jal meh meen maa-i-aa kay bayDhay.
Fish living in water are attached to Maya in the form of their love for water.
ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਮੱਛੀਆਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਵਿੱਝੀਆਂ ਪਈਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਦੀਪਕ ਪਤੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਛੇਦੇ ॥
deepak patang maa-i-aa kay chhayday.
Similarly, in the form of light of a lamp, Maya burns the moths.
ਦੀਵਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ (ਸੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਭੰਬਟ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਕਾਮ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੁੰਚਰ ਕਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
kaam maa-i-aa kunchar ka-o bi-aapai.
Maya manifesting as lust afflicts the elephant,
ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਹਾਥੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਦਬਾਉ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ;
ਭੁਇਅੰਗਮ ਭ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਖਾਪੇ ॥੧॥
bhu-i-angam bharing maa-i-aa meh khaapay. ||1||
The snakes are bothered by Maya presenting itself as earth’s smell, and bumble bees are lured by Maya in the form of fragrance of flowers. ||1||
ਸੱਪ ਤੇ ਭੌਰੇ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਐਸੀ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
maa-i-aa aisee mohnee bhaa-ee.
O’ my brothers, so captivating is this Maya,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਇਆ ਇਤਨੀ ਬਲ ਵਾਲੀ, ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ,
ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਤੇ ਡਹਕਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaytay jee-a taytay dehkaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that it has decieved all beings that exist in the world. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹਨ, ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਡੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪੰਖੀ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
pankhee marig maa-i-aa meh raatay.
The birds and the forest animals are imbued with the love of Maya.
ਪੰਛੀ, ਜੰਗਲ ਦੇ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਕਰ ਮਾਖੀ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥
saakar maakhee aDhik santaapay.
Maya in the form of sugar causes great hardship for a fly.
ਸ਼ੱਕਰ-ਰੂਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੱਖੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਦੁਖੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਤੁਰੇ ਉਸਟ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਭੇਲਾ ॥
turay usat maa-i-aa meh bhaylaa.
The horses and the camels are trapped in Maya in the form of food and water.
ਘੋੜੇ ਊਠ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਸਿਧ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਲਾ ॥੨॥
siDh cha-oraaseeh maa-i-aa meh khaylaa. ||2||
Even the eighty four adepts are engrossed in the game of Maya for the power to perform miracles. ||2||
ਚੌਰਾਸੀਹ ਸਿੱਧ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਖੇਡ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਛਿਅ ਜਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬੰਦਾ ॥
chhi-a jatee maa-i-aa kay bandaa.
The six celibates are slaves of Maya.
ਜਤੀ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਹਨ।
ਨਵੈ ਨਾਥ ਸੂਰਜ ਅਰੁ ਚੰਦਾ ॥
navai naath sooraj ar chandaa.
So are the nine masters of Yoga, and the sun and the moon.
ਨੌ ਨਾਥ ਸੂਰਜ (ਦੇਵਤਾ) ਅਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ (ਦੇਵਤਾ)
ਤਪੇ ਰਖੀਸਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਸੂਤਾ ॥
tapay rakheesar maa-i-aa meh sootaa.
Even the penitents and sages are pursuing worldly fame and power, as if they are in the slumber of Maya.
ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਤਪੀ ਤੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਅਰੁ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤਾ ॥੩॥
maa-i-aa meh kaal ar panch dootaa. ||3||
Even death and the five demons (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego) are in the grip of Maya. ||3||
ਮੌਤ (ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ) ਤੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਪਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੩॥
ਸੁਆਨ ਸਿਆਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
su-aan si-aal maa-i-aa meh raataa.
Dogs and jackals are also imbued with Maya.
ਕੁੱਤੇ, ਗਿੱਦੜ, ਬਾਂਦਰ, ਚਿੱਤ੍ਰੇ, ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਬੰਤਰ ਚੀਤੇ ਅਰੁ ਸਿੰਘਾਤਾ ॥
bantar cheetay ar singhaataa.
monkeys, leopards, and lions, are all indulged in Maya.
ਬਾਂਦਰ, ਚਿੱਤ੍ਰੇ, ਸ਼ੇਰ (ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਉਲਝੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।)
ਮਾਂਜਾਰ ਗਾਡਰ ਅਰੁ ਲੂਬਰਾ ॥
maaNjaar gaadar ar loobraa.
cats, sheep, and foxes,
ਬਿੱਲੇ, ਭੇਡਾਂ, ਲੂੰਬੜ,
ਬਿਰਖ ਮੂਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਾ ॥੪॥
birakh mool maa-i-aa meh paraa. ||4||
trees, and roots have all fallen victim to Maya in the form of food and water for their survival. ||4||
ਰੁੱਖ, ਕੰਦ-ਮੂਲ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੀਨੇ ਦੇਵ ॥
maa-i-aa antar bheenay dayv.
Even the gods are drenched with the love for Maya,
ਦੇਵਤੇ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਗਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਅਰੁ ਧਰਤੇਵ ॥
saagar indraa ar Dhartayv.
including all the creatures living in the ocean, heaven and the earth.
ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਸ੍ਵਰਗ, ਧਰਤੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹਨ।
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਉਦਰੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
kahi kabeer jis udar tis maa-i-aa.
Says Kabeer, whoever has a belly to fill, is under the spell of Maya,
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਢਿੱਡ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਆਪ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਬ ਛੂਟੇ ਜਬ ਸਾਧੂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੫॥੫॥੧੩॥
tab chhootay jab saaDhoo paa-i-aa. ||5||5||13||
and is released from Maya’s grips only when he meets the Guru and follows his teachings. ||5||5||13||
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੫॥੧੩॥
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰੈ ॥
jab lag mayree mayree karai.
As long as one keeps saying, “this is mine, this is mine”,
ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਕਾਜੁ ਏਕੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਰੈ ॥
tab lag kaaj ayk nahee sarai.
till then none of his spiritual tasks are accomplished.
ਤਦ ਤਕ ਇਸ ਦਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਇੱਕ ਕੰਮ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੌਰਦਾ।
ਜਬ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਿਟਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
jab mayree mayree mit jaa-ay.
But when this persistent urge of ‘mine-ness’ vanishes,
ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
