ਅੰਤਰ ਕਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਜੋਰੁ ਤੂ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਨਤਾ ਇਹੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਆਪਨ ਗਹੁ ਰੇ ॥
antar kaa abhimaan jor too kichh kichh kichh jaantaa ih door karahu aapan gahu ray.
O’ my mind, remove your inner ego and power-consciousness that you know it all, and thus restrain yourself.
ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਾਣ ਹੈਂਕੜ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈਂ)। ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੨॥੧॥੨॥
jan naanak ka-o har da-i-aal hohu su-aamee har santan kee Dhoor kar haray. ||2||1||2||
O’ my Master, be merciful to your devotee Nanak, and keep him humbly united to the service of your saints ||2||1||2||

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਈ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਗੀ ॥
maa-ee satsang jaagee.
O’ mother, my consciousness has awakened from the love for materialism, in the company of saints.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਤਾ! ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਜਾਗ ਪਈ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਖੈ ਜਪਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pari-a rang daykhai japtee naam niDhaanee. rahaa-o.
Now it beholds the wonders of my beloved God everywhere and by reciting His Name, it has become a treasure of bliss. ||pause||
ਇਹ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੌਤਕ ਵੇਖਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸ ਲੋਚਨ ਤਾਰ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
darsan pi-aas lochan taar laagee.
Longing for His blessed vision has welled up within me, and my eyes remain focused on Him,
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਤੇ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਸਰੀ ਤਿਆਸ ਬਿਡਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
bisree ti-aas bidaanee. ||1||
My thirst for worldly things is forgotten. ||1||
ਮੇਰੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਅਬ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਹੈ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਮਨੁ ਲਪਟਾਨੀ ॥
ab gur paa-i-o hai sahj sukh-daa-ik darsan paykhat man laptaanee.
O’ mother, I have now found the Guru, the bestower of peace and poise; after seeing him, my mind remains captivated by him.
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ) ਹੁਣ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੇਰਾ) ਮਨ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਲਪਟ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਦੇਖਿ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਰਹਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਨੀ ॥੨॥੧॥
daykh damodar rahas man upji-o naanak pari-a amrit baanee. ||2||1||
O’ Nanak, by visualizing God through the divine word, joy has welled up in my mind because the word of God ‘s praises is sweet as nectar. ||2||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੁਲਾਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਿਓਂਕਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥

ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਗਰੀਬ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ,
ਪੰਚ ਦਾਸ ਤੀਨਿ ਦੋਖੀ ਏਕ ਮਨੁ ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥ ॥
panch daas teen dokhee ayk man anaath naath.
O’ the Master-God, support of the supportless, my mind has become the slave of the five vices, and is surrounded by three enemies (vice, virtues and power)
(ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ) ਇਕ ਮਨ ਹੈ, (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜਾਂ ਦਾ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ (ਬਣਿਆ ਪਿਆ) ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਹਨ।
ਰਾਖੁ ਹੋ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raakh ho kirpaal. rahaa-o.
O’ merciful God, please protect me from these vices and Maya. ||pause||
ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਗਵਨੁ ਕਰਉ ॥
anik jatan gavan kara-o.
I make many efforts to escape from these vices, like going on pilgrimage.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਮੈਂ ਕਦੀ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰਉ ॥
khat karam jugat Dhi-aan Dhara-o.
I follow the prescribed rituals of the six sects of yogis, and practice meditation.
ਮੈਂ ਛੇ (ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ) ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਨਿਬਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਉਪਾਵ ਸਗਲ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਨਹ ਨਹ ਹੁਟਹਿ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥੧॥
upaav sagal kar haari-o nah nah huteh bikraal. ||1||
I am tired of trying all these things but these dreadful vices don’t go away. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀਲੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੱਲੇ ਕਰਨੋਂ) ਥੱਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸਰਣਿ ਬੰਦਨ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਪਤੇ ॥
saran bandan karunaa patay.
O’ compassionate God, I seek Your protection and bow to You in humility.
ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਭਵ ਹਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥
bhav haran har har har haray.
O’ God, the destroyer of the cycle of birth and death,
ਹੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਰੀ!
ਏਕ ਤੂਹੀ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
ayk toohee deen da-i-aal.
You alone are the merciful God of the meek.
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! (ਮੇਰਾ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਰਾਖਾ) ਹੈਂ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਸਰੋ ॥
parabh charan naanak aasro.
O’ Nanak, say, O’ God, I seek only Your support.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਆਖ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਧਰੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਸਾਗਰ ॥
uDhray bharam moh saagar.
Many people have been saved from drowning in the sea of worldly attachment and fear,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ) ਭਰਮ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ (ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਏ,
ਲਗਿ ਸੰਤਨਾ ਪਗ ਪਾਲ ॥੨॥੧॥੨॥
lag santnaa pag paal. ||2||1||2||
by following the teachings of Your saints, and by remaining in their company. ||2||1||2||
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜ ਕੇ ॥੨॥੧॥੨॥

naam pareet laagee man bheetar maagan ka-o har daan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
love for your Name has welled up in my mind and I have come to ask for the gift of your Name. ||1||pause||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਣ ਲਈ (ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮਾਨ ॥
sukh-daa-ee pooran parmaysur kar kirpaa raakho maan.
O’ the supreme God, the bestower of inner peace, please show mercy and protect my honor.
ਹੇ ਸੁਖ ਦਾਤੇ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣ ਭਰਪੂਰ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਮੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਦੀ) ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ।
ਦੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਰਸਨ ਬਖਾਨ ॥੧॥
dayh pareet saaDhoo sang su-aamee har gun rasan bakhaan. ||1||
O’ my Master, bless me with love for the company of the Guru, so that I may keep reciting Your praises. ||1||
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ) ਪਿਆਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਾਰਦੀ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥
ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਥਾ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
gopaal da-i-aal gobid damodar nirmal kathaa gi-aan.
O’ God, the sustainer of the world, merciful Master of the universe, bless me with the knowledge of the divine word of Your immaculate praises.
ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ! ਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ! ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਦਮੋਦਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ (ਬਖ਼ਸ਼)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਗਹੁ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਧਿਆਨ ॥੨॥੧॥੩॥
naanak ka-o har kai rang raagahu charan kamal sang Dhi-aan. ||2||1||3||
O’ God, imbue Nanak with Your love and bless him that he may keep meditating on your immaculate Name. ||2||1||3||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ (ਪਿਆਰ-) ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਹ। (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ) ਸੁਰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹੇ ॥੨॥੧॥੩॥

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੋ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ॥
har kay darsan ko man chaa-o.
My mind yearns for the blessed vision of God,
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਅਪਨੋ ਨਾਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirpaa satsang milaavhu tum dayvhu apno naa-o. rahaa-o.
please show mercy, and associate me with the company of your devotees and bless me with Your Name. ||pause||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਰੱਖ, (ਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਕਰਉ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਤ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਤਤ ਮਨਿ ਰਹਸਾਉ ॥
kara-o sayvaa sat purakh pi-aaray jat sunee-ai tat man rahsaa-o.
I long to serve Your true devotees,because my mind is overjoyed to hear Your Name in their company.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਜਿਥੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
