Raag Kaydaaraa, Fourth Guru, First Beat:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥
mayray man raam naam nit gaavee-ai ray.
O’ my mind, we should always sing praises of God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਲਖਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਲਖਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
agam agochar na jaa-ee har lakhi-aa gur pooraa milai lakhaavee-ai ray. rahaa-o.
God, who is inaccessible and imperceptible, cannot be comprehended; we can understand him only by meeting the perfect Guru and by following his teachings. ||pause||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਕਲ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ) ਸਮਝਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜਦੋਂ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥
jis aapay kirpaa karay mayraa su-aamee tis jan ka-o har liv laavee-ai ray.
When my Master bestows His Grace on a person, that person focuses his mind on the loving devotion of God.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਪਿਆਰ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
sabh ko bhagat karay har kayree har bhaavai so thaa-ay paavee-ai ray. ||1||
Even though everyone meditates on God, only that person’s devotion is accepted who is pleasing to Him. ||1||
(ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥
har har naam amolak har peh har dayvai taa naam Dhi-aavee-ai ray.
O’ my mind, God’s Name is invaluable, and it is with Him; we are able to meditate upon it only when He blesses us with it.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੁਨੀਆਵੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਉਸ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪਾਸ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਸਭੁ ਛਡਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥੨॥
jis no naam day-ay mayraa su-aamee tis laykhaa sabh chhadaavee-ai ray. ||2||
The person, whom my Master blesses with Naam, is spared from rendering an account of all his past deeds. ||2||
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ (ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਸਾਰਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਸੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਨ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥
har naam araaDheh say Dhan jan kahee-ahi tin mastak bhaag Dhur likh paavee-ai ray.
O’ my mind, those persons who meditate on God’s Name, are considered blessed because they have realized their preordained destiny.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਨ ਦੇਖੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਜਿਉ ਸੁਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਤ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥੩॥
tin daykhay mayraa man bigsai ji-o sut mil maat gal laavee-ai ray. ||3||
Seeing them, my mind blossoms with joy, like the mother, who upon seeing her son hugs him close in her embrace. ||3||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਇਉਂ) ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ), ਉਹ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਤੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥
ham baarik har pitaa parabh mayray mo ka-o dayh matee jit har paavee-ai ray.
O’ my God! O’ Father! we are Your children; bless us with such understanding that we may be able to realize You.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹਾਂ। (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੇਹ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ।
ਜਿਉ ਬਛੁਰਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਊ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥
ji-o bachhuraa daykh ga-oo sukh maanai ti-o naanak har gal laavee-ai ray. ||4||1||
O’ Nanak, just as upon seeing its calf, the cow feels comforted, similarly O’ God! keep me, Your devotee in Your loving embrace (close to You). ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਛੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਛਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਲੈ।॥੪॥੧॥

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਕਹੁ ਰੇ ॥
mayray man har har gun kaho ray.
O’ my mind, recite and praise the virtues of God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਹੁ ਰੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satguroo kay charan Dho-ay Dho-ay poojahu in biDh mayraa har parabh lahu ray. rahaa-o.
Humbly and with devotion follow the Guru’s teachings; in this way, you will realize God. ||pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਿਆ ਕਰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਕੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਚਲ। ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਇਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੂ ਰਹੁ ਰੇ ॥
kaam kroDh lobh moh abhimaan bikhai ras in sangat tay too rahu ray.
Lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego are poisonous addictions, you should stay away from their company.
ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ, ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਸਕੇ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਥ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਪਰੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਿਉ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਹੁ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
mil satsangat keejai har gosat saaDhoo si-o gosat har paraym rasaa-in raam naam rasaa-in har raam naam raam ramhu ray. ||1||
Instead, join the company of saintly persons and discuss and reflect upon God’s virtues; discourse with the saints is like enjoying the nectar of God’s love: so always remember God’s Name by adoration. ||1||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ-ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਭ ਰਸਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਰਸ ਹੈ। ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੧॥
