ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
kartaa karay so nihcha-o hovai.
Whatever the Creator does, that happens for sure.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
gur kai sabday ha-umai khovai.
Egotism vanishes only by following the Guru’s word.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
gur parsaadee kisai day vadi-aa-ee naamo naam Dhi-aa-idaa. ||5||
Through the Guru’s grace, God blesses a rare person with this glory and then that person always remembers God’s Name with adoration. ||5||
ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
gur sayvay jayvad hor laahaa naahee.
There is no other profit as great as the profit of following the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
naam man vasai naamo saalaahee.
Those in whose heart is enshrined God’s Name, they always sing His praises.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
naamo naam sadaa sukh-daata naamo laahaa paa-idaa. ||6||
God’s Name forever is the giver of celestial peace; one attains the real reward of human life by remembering God’s Name ||6||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਅਸਲ) ਲਾਭ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
bin naavai sabh dukh sansaaraa.
Without lovingly remembering God’s Name, there is misery in the entire world.
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਿਆਂ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੈ।
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਵਧਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
baho karam kamaaveh vaDheh vikaaraa.
Those who keep performing more and more ritualistic deeds, get more and more deeper in the vices.
(ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਰ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਗੋਂ) ਵਿਕਾਰ ਵਧਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
naam na sayveh ki-o sukh paa-ee-ai bin naavai dukh paa-idaa. ||7||
Those who do not lovingly remember God, how can they receive spiritual bliss? One endures misery without meditating on God’s Name. ||7||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aap karay tai aap karaa-ay.
God Himself does and gets everything done.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
gur parsaadee kisai bujhaa-ay.
By the Guru’s Grace, God reveals this understanding to a rare person.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ (ਵਿਰਲੇ) ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਹਿ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
gurmukh hoveh say banDhan torheh muktee kai ghar paa-idaa. ||8||
Those who follow the Guru’s teachings, break their worldly bonds; and reach the state of freedom from vices.||8||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਮੋਖਸ਼ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥
ਗਣਤ ਗਣੈ ਸੋ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
ganat ganai so jalai sansaaraa.
One who keeps worrying about worldly wealth, endures suffering in the world.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ ਗਿਣਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ) ਸੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਚੁਕੈ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
sahsaa mool na chukai vikaaraa.
His skepticism and evil tendencies are never dispelled.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਗਣਤ ਚੁਕਾਏ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
gurmukh hovai so ganat chukaa-ay sachay sach samaa-idaa. ||9||
One who follows the Guru’s teachings abandons his worries about worldly wealth and always remains absorbed in God’s remembrance. ||9||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਮੁਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਜੇ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਇ ਤ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ॥
jay sach day-ay ta paa-ay ko-ee.
If God Himself blesses one with Naam, only then he receives it.
ਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
gur parsaadee pargat ho-ee.
God manifests within him by the Guru’s grace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
sach naam saalaahay rang raataa gur kirpaa tay sukh paa-idaa. ||10||
Imbued with God’s love, he lovingly remembers God’s Name and by the Guru’s grace, he enjoys inner peace. ||10||
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
jap tap sanjam naam pi-aaraa.
One to whom God’s Name is dear, has all the merits of worship, penance, and austerity.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਪਾਸ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਮੋਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
kilvikh kaatay kaatanhaaraa.
God, the destroyer of sins, eradicates his sins
ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
har kai naam tan man seetal ho-aa sehjay sahj samaa-idaa. ||11||
His body and mind become calm by lovingly remembering God’s Name, and intuitively he merges in the eternal God.||11||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੧੧॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲੈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
antar lobh man mailai mal laa-ay.
One within whom is greed, his mind is soiled with filth of vices and he spreads this filth around.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਾਲਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੈਲਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ),ਉਹ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਮੈਲ ਚਮੇੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਮੈਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
mailay karam karay dukh paa-ay.
That person does sinful deeds and endures more suffering.
ਉਹ ਮੈਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੂੜੋ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
koorho koorh karay vaapaaraa koorh bol dukh paa-idaa. ||12||
He always deals in falsehood alone and suffers by telling lies. ||12||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਮਾਣ ਦਾ ਧੰਧਾ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
nirmal banee ko man vasaa-ay.
Any person who enshrines the Guru’s immaculate word in his mind,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ (ਗੁਰ-) ਬਾਣੀ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur parsaadee sahsaa jaa-ay.
his skepticism goes away by the Guru’s grace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਸਹਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
gur kai bhaanai chalai din raatee naam chayt sukh paa-idaa. ||13||
He always lives by the Guru’s will, and enjoys inner peace by always remembering God with loving devotion. ||13||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
aap sirandaa sachaa so-ee.
The eternal God Himself is the Creator,
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਖਪਾਏ ਸੋਈ ॥
aap upaa-ay khapaa-ay so-ee.
He Himself creates and destroys.
ਆਪ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
gurmukh hovai so sadaa salaahay mil saachay sukh paa-idaa. ||14||
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, always praises Him, and enjoys celestial peace by focusing his mind on the immaculate Name of God.||14||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਅਨੇਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
anayk jatan karay indree vas na ho-ee.
One may make countless efforts by his own, still he cannot control his lust
ਹੋਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਜਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
kaam karoDh jalai sabh ko-ee.
Everyone is burning in the fire of lust and anger.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ ਸੜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
satgur sayvay man vas aavai man maaray maneh samaa-idaa. ||15||
But when one follows the true Guru’s teachings, his mind comes under control; and stilling the desires in the mind, one absorbs these in the mind itself. |15||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ) ॥੧੫॥
ਮੇਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਆ ॥
mayraa tayraa tuDh aapay kee-aa.
O’ God, You Yourself have created this sense of mine and yours.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਜੀਆ ॥
sabh tayray jant tayray sabh jee-aa.
All the creatures and human beings are created by You.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੮॥
naanak naam samaal sadaa too gurmatee man vasaa-idaa. ||16||4||18||
O’ Nanak, always keep remembering God’s Name with adoration; God enshrines His Name in one’s heart only through the Guru’s teachings. ||16||4||18||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੮॥

Raag Maaroo, Third Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥
har jee-o daataa agam athaahaa.
Reverend God is the beneficent, inaccessible and unfathomable.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਹੈ।
ਓਸੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥
os til na tamaa-ay vayparvaahaa.
He does not have even an iota of greed; He is carefree.
ਉਸ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਅਪੜਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
tis no aparh na sakai ko-ee aapay mayl milaa-idaa. ||1||
No one can realize Him with his own efforts; He Himself unites a person with Himself through the Guru.||1||
ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ (ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਹੋਈ ॥
jo kichh karai so nihcha-o ho-ee.
Whatever God does, for sure that happens.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
tis bin daataa avar na ko-ee.
Except for Him there is no other benefactor.
ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
jis no naam daan karay so paa-ay gur sabdee maylaa-idaa. ||2||
One whom God gives the gift of Naam, that person alone receives it; God unites that person with Him by uniting to the Guru’s divine word. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਚਉਦਹ ਭਵਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਟਨਾਲੇ ॥
cha-odah bhavan tayray hatnaalay.
O’ God, these fourteen worlds are like Your markets.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਜ਼ਾਰ ਹਨ ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
satgur dikhaa-ay antar naalay.
That perdon whom the Guru has revealed Your this form within himself,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਰੂਪ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਵੈ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਕੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
naavai kaa vaapaaree hovai gur sabdee ko paa-idaa. ||3||
becomes the trader of Naam and realizes God through the Guru’s word. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
