ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸ ਇਕ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਾਰੀ ॥੧੨॥
barahmaa bisan mahays ik moorat aapay kartaa kaaree. ||12||
God Himself has the power to do everything; Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are the manifestations of His power of creation, sustenance and destruction. ||12||
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਇਕ ਤਾਕਤ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਮਿਥੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੧੨॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਧਿ ਤਰੈ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਆਤਮ ਤਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੩॥
kaa-i-aa soDh tarai bhav saagar aatam tat veechaaree. ||13||
One who contemplates and remembers God, the essence of souls, crosses over the world-ocean of vices by purifying his body by protecting it from evils. ||13||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ॥੧੪॥
gur sayvaa tay sadaa sukh paa-i-aa antar sabad ravi-aa gunkaaree. ||14||
One who has attained everlasting celestial peace through the Guru’s teachings; the Guru’s word, which inculcates divine virtues, always abides within him. ||14||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੧੫॥
aapay mayl la-ay gundaataa ha-umai tarisnaa maaree. ||15||
One who eradicates his ego and yearing for the worldly riches and power, God, the bestower of divine virtues, unites him with Himself. ||15||
ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣ ਬਖਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਟੇ ਚਉਥੈ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੀ ॥੧੬॥
tarai gun maytay cha-uthai vartai ayhaa bhagat niraaree. ||16||
This loving devotional worship of God is so unique, because of which one dwells in the supreme spiritual state by eradicating the three effects of Maya. ||16||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਅਨੋਖੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਚੌਥੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਗ ਸਬਦਿ ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੧੭॥
gurmukh jog sabad aatam cheenai hirdai ayk muraaree. ||17||
The yoga of a Guru’s follower is that he keeps examining his spiritual life through the Guru’s word and keeps God enshrined in his mind. ||17||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੇ ਜੋਗ -ਸਾਧਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੭॥
ਮਨੂਆ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਏਹਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੧੮॥
manoo-aa asthir sabday raataa ayhaa karnee saaree. ||18||
Human mind imbued with the Guru’s word becomes steady (does not run after Maya and evil deeds); this alone is the sublime deed in human life. ||18||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ) ਕੇਵਲ ਇਹ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਕਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੧੮॥
ਬੇਦੁ ਬਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਅਉਧੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੯॥
bayd baad na pakhand a-oDhoo gurmukh sabad beechaaree. ||19||
O’ yogi, a Guru’s follower only reflects on the Guru’s word; he doesn’t enter into any controversies about Vedas and does not practice hypocrisies. ||19||
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ!ਗੁਰੂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਖੰਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੧੯॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਗੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਅਉਧੂ ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੦॥
gurmukh jog kamaavai a-oDhoo jat sat sabad veechaaree. ||20||
O’ yogi, a Guru’s follower practices yoga, celibacy and truthful living only by reflecting on the word of the Guru. ||20||
ਹੇ ਅਉਧੂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,ਉਹ ਇਹੀ ਜੋਗ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਤ ਤੇ ਸਤ ॥੨੦॥
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਅਉਧੂ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੧॥
sabad marai man maaray a-oDhoo jog jugat veechaaree. ||21||
O’ yogi, by attuning to the Guru’s word, one who conquers his mind and eradicates his ego, understands the true way of yoga, the union with God. ||21||
ਹੇ ਅਉਧੂ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਜੋਗ ਦੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੀ) ਇਹ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਮਝੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੁਰਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੧॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਧੂ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੨੨॥
maa-i-aa moh bhavjal hai avDhoo sabad tarai kul taaree. ||22||
O’ yogi, love for Maya is like a dreadful worldly ocean of vices, but by following the Guru’s word one swims across it along with his entire lineage. ||22||
ਹੇ ਅਉਧੂ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਘੁੰਮਣ ਘੇਰੀ ਹੈ ,ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੨॥
ਸਬਦਿ ਸੂਰ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਅਉਧੂ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੩॥
sabad soor jug chaaray a-oDhoo banee bhagat veechaaree. ||23||
O’ yogi, those who attune to the Guru’s word are the true heroes throughout the four ages; they keep the Guru’s hymns and God’s devotional worship enshrined in their minds. ||23||
ਹੇ ਅਉਧੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਹਨ ; ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨੩॥
ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਅਉਧੂ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੪॥
ayhu man maa-i-aa mohi-aa a-oDhoo niksai sabad veechaaree. ||24||
O’ yogi, the human mind remains enticed by the Maya; only that person comes out of its grip who reflects on the Guru’s divine word. ||24||
ਹੇ ਅਉਧੂ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਹ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੪॥
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੨੫॥੯॥
aapay bakhsay mayl milaa-ay naanak saran tumaaree. ||25||9||
O’ Nanak pray, O’ God! those who come in Your refuge, You Yourself forgive them and unite them with Yourself through the holy congregation. ||25||9||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਾਹ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਮਾਫ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਂ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨੫॥੯॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਮੈ ਦੀਆ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਕੰਨੀ ਪਾਇ ਜੋਗੀ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਕਰਿ ਤੂ ਦਇਆ ॥
sarmai dee-aa mundraa kannee paa-ay jogee khinthaa kar too da-i-aa.
O’ yogi, make hard work as the earrings for your ears and make compassion as your patched coat.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾਂ ਪਾ ਲੈ, ਅਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਫ਼ਨੀ ਬਣਾ।
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਬਿਭੂਤਿ ਲਾਇ ਜੋਗੀ ਤਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਣ ਜਿਣਿ ਲਇਆ ॥੧॥
aavan jaan bibhoot laa-ay jogee taa teen bhavan jin la-i-aa. ||1||
O’ yogi, make the fear of the cycle of birth and death as the ashes on your body and then deem that you have conquered the three worlds. ||1||
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਦੀ ਸੁਆਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੰਡੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਲੇਂ,ਤਾਂ ਸਮਝੀ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਜਹਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਐਸੀ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਵਜਾਇ ਜੋਗੀ ॥
aisee kinguree vajaa-ay jogee.
O’ yogi, play that kind of harp,
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਤੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਵੀਣਾ ਵਜਾਇਆ ਕਰ,
ਜਿਤੁ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਅਨਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jit kinguree anhad vaajai har si-o rahai liv laa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
by which, a non-stop melody of divine word starts playing in your heart and you may remain attuned to God. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਵੀਣਾ ਦੇ ਵਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਕ-ਰਸ ਧੁਨੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਜਣ ਲਗ ਪਵੇ, ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਪਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਝੋਲੀ ਜੋਗੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੁਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
sat santokh pat kar jholee jogee amrit naam bhugat paa-ee.
O’ yogi, make truth and contentment as your begging bowl and satchel, and put the ambrosial nectar of Naam as spiritual food in your bowl.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਸੇਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਨੂੰ ਖੱਪਰ ਅਤੇ ਝੋਲੀ ਬਣਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਚੂਰਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੱਪਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ।
ਧਿਆਨ ਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਡੰਡਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
Dhi-aan kaa kar dandaa jogee sinyee surat vajaa-ee. ||2||
O’ yogi, make meditation your walking stick, and make higher consciousness as the horn you blow. ||2||
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਦਾ ਡੰਡਾ ਬਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਚੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਜਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿੰਙੀ ॥੨॥
ਮਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਆਸਣਿ ਬੈਸੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਤਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਲਪਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
man darirh kar aasan bais jogee taa tayree kalpanaa jaa-ee.
O’ yogi, make your mind stable (against the vices) and let that be your sitting posture; only then the anguish in your mind would go away.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ-ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਦਾ ਢੰਗ ਬਣਾ, ਇਸ ਅੱਭਿਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਖਿੱਝ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ।
ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਮੰਗਣਿ ਚੜਹਿ ਜੋਗੀ ਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
kaa-i-aa nagree meh mangan charheh jogee taa naam palai paa-ee. ||3||
O’ yogi, if you go begging into the town-like body of yours, only then you would realize God’s Name. ||3||.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ-ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਂ, ਤਾਂ, ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ॥੩॥
ਇਤੁ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
it kinguree Dhi-aan na laagai jogee naa sach palai paa-ay.
O’ yogi, with this harp which you are playing, neither one’s mind attunes to God, nor one obtains union with the eternal God.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! (ਜਿਹੜੀ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਤੂੰ ਵਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ) ਇਸ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜ ਸਕਦਾ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਤੁ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥
it kinguree saaNt na aavai jogee abhimaan na vichahu jaa-ay. ||4||
O’ yogi, by playing this harp, neither celestial peace wells up in the mind nor arrogance goes away from within. ||4||
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! (ਤੇਰੀ) ਇਸ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ਦੁਇ ਪਤ ਲਾਇ ਜੋਗੀ ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਡੰਡੀ ॥
bha-o bhaa-o du-ay pat laa-ay jogee ih sareer kar dandee.
O’ yogi, make this body of yours as the wooden frame of the harp and attach to it the love and fear of God as two hollow gourds.
ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ (ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਦੀ) ਡੰਡੀ ਬਣਾ ਅਤੇ (ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ-ਡੰਡੀ ਨੂੰ) ਡਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਤੂੰਬੇ ਜੋੜ
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਤੰਤੀ ਵਾਜੈ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਖੰਡੀ ॥੫॥
gurmukh hoveh taa tantee vaajai in biDh tarisnaa khandee. ||5||
If you always follow the Guru’s teachings, then this body-harp will start playing the divine music and this way your yearning for Maya would vanish.||5||
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਤਾਰ ਵੱਜ ਪਏਗੀ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਇਗੀ ॥੫॥
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਕਹੀਐ ਏਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
hukam bujhai so jogee kahee-ai aykas si-o chit laa-ay.
One who understands the command of God and attunes his mind to Him, is called a true yogi.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਅਸਲ) ਜੋਗੀ ਅਖਵਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਹਸਾ ਤੂਟੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਇਵ ਪਾਏ ॥੬॥
sahsaa tootai nirmal hovai jog jugat iv paa-ay. ||6||
His cynicism shatters and his mlnd becomes immaculately pure; this is how he finds the way to unite with God. ||6||.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਢੰਗ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵਦਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
nadree aavdaa sabh kichh binsai har saytee chit laa-ay.
O’ Yogi, everything that comes into view is all going to perish; therefore attune your mind to God who alone is eternal.
(ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ) ਅੱਖੀਂ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ) ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਇਹ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥
satgur naal tayree bhaavnee laagai taa ih sojhee paa-ay. ||7||
But you would get this understanding only when you will develop full faith and love for the true Guru. ||7||
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਪਏਗੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣੇਗੀ ॥੭॥
