ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
santan kay paraan aDhaar.
God is the support of the life of saints,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ,
ਊਚੇ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੩॥
oochay tay ooch apaar. ||3||
He is the highest of the high and infinite. ||3||
ਉਹ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰੀਜੈ ॥
so mat saar jit har simreejai.
Sublime is that intellect through which God can be remembered with adoration,
ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਤਿ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
kar kirpaa jis aapay deejai.
but only he attains such intellect upon whom God bestows it through His mercy.
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
sookh sahj aanand har naa-o.
God’s Name is the source of inner peace, poise and bliss.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ (ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ)।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੩੮॥
naanak japi-aa gur mil naa-o. ||4||27||38||
O’ Nanak, one who has meditated on the God’s Name, has done so by meeting and following the Guru’s teachings. ||4||27||38||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਇਹ ਨਾਮ (ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੩੮॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਸਗਲ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਛਾਡਿ ॥
sagal si-aanap chhaad.
O’ brother, abandon all your clever tricks.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ,
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਾਜਿ ॥
kar sayvaa sayvak saaj.
and sincerely follow the Guru’s teachings like a true devotee.
ਸੇਵਕ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਾਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ।
ਅਪਨਾ ਆਪੁ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਾਇ ॥
apnaa aap sagal mitaa-ay.
One who erases his self-conceit and ego,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦੇ ਸੇਈ ਫਲ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
man chinday say-ee fal paa-ay. ||1||
receives the fruits of his mind’s desires. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਚਿਤਵੇ ਹੋਏ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹੋਹੁ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ॥
hohu saavDhaan apunay gur si-o.
O’ brother, remain attentive to the Guru’s teachings,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਲ, ਪੂਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰ,
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aasaa mansaa pooran hovai paavahi sagal niDhaan gur si-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
all your hopes and desires would be fulfilled, and you would obtain all kinds of spiritual treasures from the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ, ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਫੁਰਨਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ। ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
doojaa nahee jaanai ko-ay.
O’ brother, except God, the Guru does not recognize any other different power.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ (ਵੱਖਰੀ ਹਸਤੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
satgur niranjan so-ay.
The true Guru is the embodiment of the immaculate God.
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਉਸ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
maanukh kaa kar roop na jaan.
Therefore, do not believe that the Guru is a mere human being;
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ) ਨਿਰਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝ ਰੱਖ।
ਮਿਲੀ ਨਿਮਾਨੇ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
milee nimaanay maan. ||2||
One receives honor from the Guru by remaining humble. ||2||
ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਇ ॥
gur kee har tayk tikaa-ay.
O’ my friend, always depend on the support of the Divine-Guru,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ-ਪਰਨਾ ਫੜ,
ਅਵਰ ਆਸਾ ਸਭ ਲਾਹਿ ॥
avar aasaa sabh laahi.
and give up all hopes on other supports.
ਹੋਰ (ਆਸਰਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਸਭ ਆਸਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ।
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਾਗੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
har kaa naam maag niDhaan.
Ask for the treasure of God’s Name from the Guru;
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ) ਮੰਗ,
ਤਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
taa dargeh paavahi maan. ||3||
only then you would obtain honor in God’s presence. ||3||
ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ-ਸਤਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਜਪਿ ਮੰਤੁ ॥
gur kaa bachan jap mant.
O’ brother, always remember the Mantra of Guru’s divine word.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ (ਸਦਾ) ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਏਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾਰ ਤਤੁ ॥
ayhaa bhagat saar tat.
This alone is the essence of true devotional worship.
ਇਹੀ ਵਧੀਆ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੩੯॥
satgur bha-ay da-i-aal. naanak daas nihaal. ||4||28||39||
O’ Nanak, those devotees always remain delighted on whom the true Guru becomes merciful. ||4||28||39||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੩੯॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
hovai so-ee bhal maan.
Whatever happens, consider it as God’s will and accept it as good.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭਲਾ ਮੰਨ,
ਆਪਨਾ ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
aapnaa taj abhimaan.
Abandon your egotistical pride.
ਆਪਣਾ (ਸਿਆਣਪ ਦਾ) ਮਾਣ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ।
ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥
din rain sadaa gun gaa-o.
Always sing the praises of God.
ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੁ;
ਪੂਰਨ ਏਹੀ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥
pooran ayhee su-aa-o. ||1||
This alone is the real purpose of human life. ||1||
ਬੱਸ! ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਠੀਕ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ॥੧॥
ਆਨੰਦ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ॥
aanand kar sant har jap.
O’ dear, lovingly remember the Divine-Guru and enjoy the bliss.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ-ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ (ਸਦਾ) ਮਾਣ।
ਛਾਡਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਜਪਿ ਮੰਤੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chhaad si-aanap baho chaturaa-ee gur kaa jap mant nirmal. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Renounce your own wisdom and cleverness, and reflect on the immaculate Mantra (divine word) of the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਕਲਮੰਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਘਣੇਰੀ ਚਾਲਾਕੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਏਕ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਭੀਤਰਿ ॥
ayk kee kar aas bheetar.
O’ my friend, keep within your mind the hope of God’s support,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ (ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖ,
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ॥
nirmal jap naam har har.
and keep lovingly remembering the immaculate Name of God.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਿ ॥
gur kay charan namaskaar.
Bow down to the Guru’s teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾ।
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
bhavjal utreh paar. ||2||
and this way you would swim across the worldly ocean of vices. ||2||
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਤੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ ॥੨॥
ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ਦਾਤਾਰ ॥
dayvanhaar daataar.
God, the great giver,
ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
ant na paaraavaar.
has no end or limitation.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
jaa kai ghar sarab niDhaan.
God, in whose treasures there is abundance of everything.
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ,
ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥੩॥
raakhanhaar nidaan. ||3||
is our Savior in the end,||3||
ਉਹੀ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮ ॥
naanak paa-i-aa ayhu niDhaan.haray har nirmal naam.
Nanak has received this treasure of God’s immaculate Name
ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਮ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹ)।
ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo japai tis kee gat ho-ay.
One who always remembers Naam, attains supreme spiritual status.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੨੯॥੪੦॥
naanak karam paraapat ho-ay. ||4||29||40||
O’ Nanak, this treasure of Naam is received only by God’s grace. ||4||29||40||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨੯॥੪੦॥

ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
dulabh dayh savaar.
O’ brother, make fruitful this very difficult to obtain human life by singing the praises of God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲ ਕਰ ਲੈ ਜੋ ਬੜੀ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਾਹਿ ਨ ਦਰਗਹ ਹਾਰਿ ॥
jaahi na dargeh haar.
so that you would not have to go to God’s presence after losing the game of human life.
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਇਥੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਬਾਜੀ) ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਏਂਗਾ।
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਹੋਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
halat palat tuDh ho-ay vadi-aa-ee.
You would be honored both in this world and the next,
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ।
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬੇਲਾ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਈ ॥੧॥
ant kee baylaa la-ay chhadaa-ee. ||1||
and God’s praises will liberate you from the bonds of worldly attachments at the very last moment of your life. ||1||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਛਡਾ ਲਏਗੀ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥
raam kay gun gaa-o.
O’ my friends, keep singing the praises of God.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ।
ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਹੋਹਿ ਦੋਵੈ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
halat palat hohi dovai suhaylay achraj purakh Dhi-aa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Always lovingly remember the wondrous God, you would become peaceful and comfortable both here and hereafter. ||1||Pause||
ਅਚਰਜ-ਰੂਪ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰਾ) ਇਹ ਲੋਕ (ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ) ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੁ ॥
oothat baithat har jaap.
(O’ my friends), always meditate on God in each and every situation,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਠਦਿਆਂ ਬੈਠਦਿਆਂ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥
binsai sagal santaap.
all troubles vanish by doing so.
(ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੈਰੀ ਸਭਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮੀਤ ॥
bairee sabh hoveh meet.
All your enemies (the vices) will become friends,
(ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਤੇਰੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਣਗੇ,
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਚੀਤ ॥੨॥
nirmal tayraa hovai cheet. ||2||
and your mind will become immaculate (free from any kind of enmity). ||2||
ਤੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ (ਵੈਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਤੋਂ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ ॥੨॥
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਤਮ ਇਹੁ ਕਰਮੁ ॥
sabh tay ootam ih karam.
Remembering God is the most exalted deed.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਹੀ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ,
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਮਹਿ ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟ ਧਰਮੁ ॥
sagal Dharam meh saraysat Dharam.
Of all faiths, this is the most sublime and excellent faith.
ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਹੀ ਵਧੀਆ ਧਰਮ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥
har simran tayraa ho-ay uDhaar.
You would be emancipated by remembering God with adoration.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਉਤਰੈ ਭਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
janam janam kaa utrai bhaar. ||3||
You would be freed of the load of sins accumulated birth after birth. ||3||
ਤੇਰਾ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ (ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ) ਦਾ ਭਾਰ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਵੇਗਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਪੂਰਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਆਸ ॥
pooran tayree hovai aas.
Your desire would be fulfilled,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ) ਤੇਰੀ (ਹਰੇਕ) ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗੀ,
ਜਮ ਕੀ ਕਟੀਐ ਤੇਰੀ ਫਾਸ ॥
jam kee katee-ai tayree faas.
your noose of death would be cut off.
ਤੇਰੀ ਜਮਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਫਾਹੀ (ਭੀ) ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਏਗੀ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੁਨੀਜੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮੀਜੈ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੪੧॥
gur kaa updays suneejai. naanak sukh sahj sameejai. ||4||30||41||
O’ Nanak, say, we should always listen and follow the Guru’s teachings, by doing so we remain absorbed in inner peace and poise. ||4||30||41||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।( ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੪੧॥
