ਨਿਹਚਲ ਆਸਨੁ ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
nihchal aasan baysumaar. ||2||
Beyond description is that spiritual state which is unshakable by worldly temptations. ||2||
ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਣ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਕਦੇ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਡਿਗਿ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ਕਤਹੂ ਨ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
dig na dolai kathoo na Dhaavai.
One who has reached that state never falls from that state, does not waver and does not run after worldly allurements.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਡਿੱਗ ਕੇ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕੋ ਇਹੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
gur parsaad ko ih mahal paavai.
But only a rare person reaches that state by the Guru’s grace.
ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੈ ਮੋਹ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲ ॥
bharam bhai moh na maa-i-aa jaal.
In that state of mind one is not affected by any doubt, fear, worldly attachment and the web of Maya.
ਉਥੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਭਟਕਣਾਂ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਡਰ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ-ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ,
ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੩॥
sunn samaaDh parabhoo kirpaal. ||3||
They enter the state of deep trance through the kindness of merciful God. ||3||
ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਅਫੁਰ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ॥੩॥
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
taa kaa ant na paaraavaar.
O’ my friends, God whose virtues have no end or limits,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥
aapay gupat aapay paasaar.
this worldly expanse is His visible form and He himself is hidden in it.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ।
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਦੁ ॥
jaa kai antar har har su-aad.
One within whom is the taste of remembering God’s Name:
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥੪॥੯॥੨੦॥
kahan na jaa-ee naanak bismaad. ||4||9||20||
O’ Nanak, his wondrous state of mind cannot be described. ||4||9||20||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੪॥੯॥੨੦॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਭੇਟਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
bhaytat sang paarbarahm chit aa-i-aa.
O’ brother, meeting with the saintly people, the supreme God has manifested in my mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਤ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sangat karat santokh man paa-i-aa.
I have attained contentment of mind by staying in the company of saints.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤਹ ਚਰਨ ਮਾਥਾ ਮੇਰੋ ਪਉਤ ॥
santeh charan maathaa mayro pa-ut.
My forehead bows humbly before the saints.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮੱਥਾ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਸੰਤਹ ਡੰਡਉਤ ॥੧॥
anik baar santeh dand-ut. ||1||
Yes, I humbly bow before them many times. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
ih man santan kai balihaaree.
O’ my friends, this mind of mine is dedicated to the saints,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa kee ot gahee sukh paa-i-aa raakhay kirpaa Dhaaree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
holding tight to their support, I have attained inner peace; bestowing mercy, they have protected me from vices. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਤੋਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੰਤਹ ਚਰਣ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਵਾ ॥
santeh charan Dho-ay Dho-ay peevaa.
O’ brother, I serve the saintly people with such humility, as if I am washing their feet and drinking that water.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਸੰਤਹ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਜੀਵਾ ॥
santeh daras paykh paykh jeevaa.
I spiritually survive on seeing the blessed vision of the saintly people.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ॥
santeh kee mayrai man aas.
In my mind, there is always hope of help from the saintly people.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦਾ ਧਰਵਾਸ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
sant hamaaree nirmal raas. ||2||
The company of Saints is my immaculate wealth. ||2||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਪੜਦਾ ॥
sant hamaaraa raakhi-aa parh-daa.
(O’ my friends), the saints have saved my honor;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਚਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਕੜਦਾ ॥
sant parsaad mohi kabhoo na karh-daa.
By the Grace of the Saints, I am no longer tormented.
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ।
ਸੰਤਹ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੀਆ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
santeh sang dee-aa kirpaal.
Merciful God, who has blessed me with the company of the saints,
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੩॥
sant sahaa-ee bha-ay da-i-aal. ||3||
the Compassionate Saints have become my help and support. ||3||
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੂ ਸਾਧੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
surat mat buDh pargaas.
My mind, intellect and wisdom have been spiritually enlightened.
ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬੁੱਧਿ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥
gahir gambheer apaar guntaas.
God is unfathomable, infinite, treasure of virtues,
ਅਥਾਹ, ਬੇਅੰਤ, ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ,
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥
jee-a jant saglay partipaal.
and he takes care of all beings and creatures:
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੨੧॥
naanak santeh daykh nihaal. ||4||10||21||
O’ Nanak, God becomes delighted upon seeing the Saints. ||4||10||21||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੨੧॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਤੇਰੈ ਕਾਜਿ ਨ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਮਾਲੁ ॥
tayrai kaaj na garihu raaj maal.
(O’ my friend), this home, power and possessions will be of no use to you for your spiritual life.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਇਹ ਘਰ, ਇਹ ਹਕੂਮਤ, ਇਹ ਧਨ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ) ਤੇਰੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਤੇਰੈ ਕਾਜਿ ਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਜੰਜਾਲੁ ॥
tayrai kaaj na bikhai janjaal.
This entanglement with the materialistic world will be of no use for spiritual growth.
ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਝੰਬੇਲਾ ਭੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਜਾਣੁ ਸਭ ਛਲੈ ॥
isat meet jaan sabh chhalai.
Know that all your dear friends are fake and temporary.
ਚੇਤਾ ਰੱਖ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਛਲ-ਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਚਲੈ ॥੧॥
har har naam sang tayrai chalai. ||1||
Only God’s Name would accompany you in the end. ||1||
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਲੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਰਹੈ ॥
raam naam gun gaa-ay lay meetaa har simrat tayree laaj rahai.
O’ my friend, sing praises of God’s Name; by remembering God with loving devotion, your honor would remain intact both here and hereafter.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਇਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਗਾ ਲੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਮੁ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har simrat jam kachh na kahai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By remembering God’s Name, even the demon of death would not say anything to you. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਭੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਰਾਰਥ ਕਾਮ ॥
bin har sagal niraarath kaam.
O’ my friends, except remembering God, all other tasks are useless.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ (ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਮਾਟੀ ਦਾਮ ॥
su-inaa rupaa maatee daam.
Gold, silver and worldly wealth are worthless like dust.
ਸੋਨਾ, ਚਾਂਦੀ, ਰੁਪਇਆ-ਪੈਸੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ -ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਾਪਿ ਮਨ ਸੁਖਾ ॥
gur kaa sabad jaap man sukhaa.
O’ my friend, keep reflecting and following the Guru’s word, your mind will have inner peace.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ, ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ;
ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਤੇਰੋ ਊਜਲ ਮੁਖਾ ॥੨॥
eehaa oohaa tayro oojal mukhaa. ||2||
and you would obtain honor both here and hereafter. ||2||
ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾ ॥੨॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇਰੇ ॥
kar kar thaakay vaday vadayray.
Even your great ancestors got exhausted doing worldly deeds,
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੇ ਸਭ ਬੰਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧੇ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕਦੇ ਰਹੇ,
ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਨ ਕੀਏ ਕਾਜ ਮਾਇਆ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
kin hee na kee-ay kaaj maa-i-aa pooray.
but none of them accomplished these worldly tasks.
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਧੰਧੇ ਸਿਰੇ ਨਾਹ ਚਾੜ੍ਹੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਾਹ ਮੁੱਕੀ)।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
har har naam japai jan ko-ay.
But if a rare person remembers God’s Name with loving devotion,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
taa kee aasaa pooran ho-ay. ||3||
all his wishes are fulfilled. ||3||
ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਭਿਲਾਸ਼ਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
har bhagtan ko naam aDhaar.
Naam is the support of His devotees.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤੀ ਜੀਤਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
santee jeetaa janam apaar.
The saints have won the game of this invaluable human life.
ਤਾਹੀਏਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਜਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
har sant karay so-ee parvaan.
Whatever God’s saint does, is approved in His presence.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੰਤ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O’ Nanak, say, I, the devotee Nanak is dedicated to that saint. ||4||11||22||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਮੈਂ) ਦਾਸ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੨੨॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਸਿੰਚਹਿ ਦਰਬੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਲੋਗ ॥
sincheh darab deh dukh log.
(O’ foolish person), you amass wealth by inflicting pain on other people.
(ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ!) ਤੂੰ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਅਤੇ ਧਨ ਜੋੜਨ ਦੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਵਿਚ) ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੇਰੈ ਕਾਜਿ ਨ ਅਵਰਾ ਜੋਗ ॥
tayrai kaaj na avraa jog.
(After your death) it would serve no purpose; it would be only for others to enjoy.
(ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਧਨ) ਤੇਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵੇਗਾ, ਹੋਰਨਾਂ (ਦੇ ਵਰਤਣ) ਜੋਗਾ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਕਰਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਅੰਧ ॥
kar ahaNkaar ho-ay varteh anDh.
Getting puffed up in ego, you react with people like an ignorant fool,
(ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਇਸ ਧਨ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ (ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਮ ਕੀ ਜੇਵੜੀ ਤੂ ਆਗੈ ਬੰਧ ॥੧॥
jam kee jayvrhee too aagai banDh. ||1||
In the world hereafter, you will be tied to the leash of the demon of death. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੂੰ ਦੂਤ ਦੇ ਰੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਰੜਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਛਾਡਿ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਤਾਤਿ ਮੂੜੇ ॥
chhaad vidaanee taat moorhay.
O’ foolish person, give up jealousy with others,
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਈਰਖਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।
ਈਹਾ ਬਸਨਾ ਰਾਤਿ ਮੂੜੇ ॥
eehaa basnaa raat moorhay.
O’ fool, you are here in this world for a short time.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ (ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ) ਰਾਤ-ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਤੈ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਨਾ ॥
maa-i-aa kay maatay tai uth chalnaa.
O’ fool, intoxicated with Maya, remember that soon you would depart from here,
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਏ ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! (ਇਥੋਂ ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਾਚਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਤੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਪਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raach rahi-o too sang supnaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
but you are totally involved with this dream-like world. ||1||Pause||
(ਪਰ) ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਸੁਪਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਾਲ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਅੰਧ ॥
baal bivasthaa baarik anDh.
During childhood, one is (spiritually) ignorant.
ਬਾਲ ਉਮਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਬਾਲਕ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਰਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ॥
bhar joban laagaa durganDh.
In the prime of youth, one gets attached to vicious pleasures.
ਭਰ-ਜਵਾਨੀ ਵੇਲੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
