ਮਨੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
man keeno dah dis bisraam.
but his fickle mind is focused in ten directions at the same time.
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਲਕੁ ਚਰਾਵੈ ਪਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
tilak charaavai paa-ee paa-ay.
He anoints the idol of god with a saffron mark and bows at its feet,
ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੱਥਰ ਦੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਟਿੱਕਾ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ l
ਲੋਕ ਪਚਾਰਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
lok pachaaraa anDh kamaa-ay. ||2||
blinded by ignorance, he tries to please other people. ||2||
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਿਆਉਣ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਅਰੁ ਆਸਣੁ ਧੋਤੀ ॥
khat karmaa ar aasan Dhotee.
He performs the six prescribed religious deeds and wearing a loin-cloth, he sits on a special mat while performing the idol worship.
(ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ) ਛੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,(ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉੱਨ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ) ਆਸਣ (ਭੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਧੋਤੀ (ਭੀ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈ)
ਭਾਗਠਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਪੜੈ ਨਿਤ ਪੋਥੀ ॥
bhaagath garihi parhai nit pothee.
He daily goes to the homes of some rich people and reads the scriptures.
ਕਿਸੇ ਧਨਾਢ ਦੇ ਘਰ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਸਦਾ (ਆਪਣੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ) ਪੁਸਤਕ ਭੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਾਲਾ ਫੇਰੈ ਮੰਗੈ ਬਿਭੂਤ ॥
maalaa fayrai mangai bibhoot.
He also chants with the rosary and then asks for money.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ) ਮਾਲਾ ਫੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਧਨਾਢ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ-
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਤਰਿਓ ਮੀਤ ॥੩॥
ih biDh ko-ay na tari-o meet. ||3||
O’ friend, by this way no one has ever crossed the world-ocean of vices. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਦੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
so pandit gur sabad kamaa-ay.
He alone is a true Pundit who lives life according to the Guru’s divine word.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਢਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਓਸੁ ਉਤਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥
tarai gun kee os utree maa-ay.
Then he is relieved of the effects of the three modes of Maya.
ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਚਤੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
chatur bayd pooran har naa-ay.
The merits of four Vedas are completely included in remembering God’s Name.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਾ ਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੭॥
naanak tis kee sarnee paa-ay. ||4||6||17||
O’ Nanak, only a rare fortunate person listens to such a Pundit. ||4||6||17||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਕੋਈ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਉਸ (ਪੰਡਿਤ) ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੭॥

ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨ ਨਹੀ ਆਵਹਿ ਨੇਰਿ ॥
kot bighan nahee aavahi nayr.
O’ brother, millions of life’s troubles do not come near that person,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਰੁਕਾਵਟਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀਆਂ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਚੇਰਿ ॥
anik maa-i-aa hai taa kee chayr.
and the Maya which entices people in many ways, becomes his servant,
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ (ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੀ) ਮਾਇਆ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਪਾਪ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰ ॥
anik paap taa kay paaneehaar.
and countless sins (evil thoughts) become ineffective against him,
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ),
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਇਆ ਭਈ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੧॥
jaa ka-o ma-i-aa bha-ee kartaar. ||1||
who is blessed with the grace of the Creator-God. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੋਇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥
jisahi sahaa-ee ho-ay bhagvaan.
O’ my friends, one who has God as his help and support,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪ) ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਉਆ ਕੈ ਸਰੰਜਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anik jatan u-aa kai saraNjaam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
myriads of his tasks get successfully accomplished. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਉੱਦਮ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਤਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਉਨੁ ॥
kartaa raakhai keetaa ka-un.
The person whom the Creator-God saves, what harm anyone created by Him can do to that person?
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੀਰੀ ਜੀਤੋ ਸਗਲਾ ਭਵਨੁ ॥
keeree jeeto saglaa bhavan.
If God is on his side then even an utterly weak person can conquer the entire world.
(ਜੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ) ਕੀੜੀ (ਭੀ) ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੇਤਕ ਬਰਨ ॥
bay-ant mahimaa taa kee kaytak baran.
The glory of God is infinite, how much of it could be described?
ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ। ਕਿਤਨੀ ਕੁ ਬਿਆਨ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਏ?
ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ॥੨॥
bal bal jaa-ee-ai taa kay charan. ||2||
O’ brother, we should be always dedicated to His Name. ||2||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
tin hee kee-aa jap tap Dhi-aan.
O’ Brother, he alone has done true worship, penance, meditation,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਜਪ ਕੀਤਾ ਸਮਝੋ, ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤਪ ਸਾਧਿਆ ਜਾਣੋ, ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਈ ਸਮਝੋ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
anik parkaar kee-aa tin daan.
and has given to various charities;
ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ),
ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋਈ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
bhagat so-ee kal meh parvaan.
he alone is true devotee and he alone is honorable in kalyug,
ਉਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮੰਨਿਆ-ਪ੍ਰਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
jaa ka-o thaakur dee-aa maan. ||3||
whom the Master-God has blessed with honor. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਦਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥
saaDhsang mil bha-ay pargaas.
People become spiritually enlightened by joining the company of the Guru,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਜ ਸੂਖ ਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
sahj sookh aas nivaas.
and develop this faith that God alone is the source of inner peace and poise, and He alone is the One who fulfils everyone’s hopes.
ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ,ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬਿਸਾਸ ॥
poorai satgur dee-aa bisaas.
Those whom the Perfect true Guru has blessed with faith,
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਕਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਏ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੮॥
naanak ho-ay daasan daas. ||4||7||18||
O’ Nanak, they become the servants of the devotees of God. ||4||7||18||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸ ਬਣੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੮॥

ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਲੋਗ ॥
dos na deejai kaahoo log.
O’ my friends, do not blame other people for your problems,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਉਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਔਖਿਆਈ ਬਾਰੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।
ਜੋ ਕਮਾਵਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਭੋਗ ॥
jo kamaavan so-ee bhog.
because whatever one does, one has to bear consequences of the same.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੋ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਫਲ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਨ ਕਰਮ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬੰਧ ॥
aapan karam aapay hee banDh.
One gets bound down in worldly bonds because of his own deeds.
ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ (ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ) ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਜਕੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ),
ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਵਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੰਧ ॥੧॥
aavan jaavan maa-i-aa DhanDh. ||1||
These worldly bonds are the cause of the cycle of birth and death. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੀ ॥
aisee jaanee sant janee.
(O’ my friends), only the saintly people have understood this way of life,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ ਇਸ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pargaas bha-i-aa pooray gur bachnee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
they have been spiritually enlightened by following the Perfect Guru’s divine words. ||1||Pause||.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ (ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥
tan Dhan kalat mithi-aa bisthaar.
(O’ my friends), our body, wealth, and wife are false (temporary) shows.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਰੀਰ, ਧਨ, ਵਹੁਟੀ-(ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ) ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ।
ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਚਾਲਨਹਾਰ ॥
haivar gaivar chaalanhaar.
Horses and elephants will also pass away.
ਵਧੀਆ ਘੋੜੇ, ਵਧੀਆ ਹਾਥੀ-ਇਹ ਭੀ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ।
ਰਾਜ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਸਭਿ ਕੂਰ ॥
raaj rang roop sabh koor.
Power, worldly pleasures and beauty are all false (short lived).
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹੀਆਂ, ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨੁਹਾਰਾਂ-ਇਹ ਭੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੂੜੇ ਪਸਾਰੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਸੀ ਧੂਰ ॥੨॥
naam binaa ho-ay jaasee Dhoor. ||2||
Except God’s Name everything would be reduced to dust. ||2||.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸ਼ੈ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗੀ ॥੨॥
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਾਦਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
bharam bhoolay baad ahaNkaaree.
The worldly things for which people go astray and become egotistical:
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਰਸਤੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥
sang naahee ray sagal pasaaree.
O’ brother, this expanse of all these does not accompany anyone.
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਮਹਿ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਰਧਾਨੀ ॥
sog harakh meh dayh birDhaanee.
The human body grows old while going back and forth between happiness and sorrow.
ਕਦੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ, ਗ਼ਮੀ ਵਿਚ, (ਇਉਂ ਹੀ) ਸਰੀਰ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਕਤ ਇਵ ਹੀ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
saakat iv hee karat bihaanee. ||3||
The life of the faithless cynics pass running after worldly things. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
har kaa naam amrit kal maahi.
(O’ my friends), in Kalyug, God’s Name alone is the ambrosial Nectar which provides spiritual rejuvenation.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਹੈ।
ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
ayhu niDhaanaa saaDhoo paahi.
This treasure, the wealth of Naam, is with the Guru alone.
ਇਹ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂਠਾ ॥
naanak gur govid jis toothaa.
O’ Nanak, one on whom the Divine-Guru becomes gracious,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੯॥
ghat ghat rama-ee-aa tin hee deethaa. ||4||8||19||
that person sees the all pervading God in each and every heart. ||4||8||19||
ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੯॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਤਹ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਾਦ ॥
panch sabad tah pooran naad.
In the higher spiritual status, one feels as if a divine melody with the five musical instruments is being played.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਇਉਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਪੰਜ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਘਨਘੋਰ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਜੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥
anhad baajay achraj bismaad.
Astounding is the effect and feeling of these continuous divine melodies.
ਉਹ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਤੇ ਹੈਰਾਨੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕੇਲ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਗ ॥
kayl karahi sant har log.
In that state, God’s saintly people enjoy the spiritual bliss.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨ (ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਿਰਜੋਗ ॥੧॥
paarbarahm pooran nirjog. ||1||
they remain united with the supreme God who is detached and perfect. ||1||
(ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ) ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਤੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਭਵਨ ॥
sookh sahj aanand bhavan.
O’ brother, those people attain the state of inner peace, poise and bliss,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਤਹ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਨਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saaDhsang bais gun gaavahi tah rog sog nahee janam maran. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who sing praises of God in the company of the Guru; in that spiritual state there are no afflictions, sorrows and the fear of cycle of birth and death. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਗ ਕੋਈ ਗ਼ਮ ਕੋਈ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਊਹਾ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
oohaa simrahi kayval naam.
The saintly people in that spiritual state lovingly remember God’s Name alone,
ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੰਤ-ਜਨ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਹਰਿ- ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਓਹੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
birlay paavahi oh bisraam.
but it is only very rare people who reach that high spiritual state.
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
bhojan bhaa-o keertan aaDhaar.
In that spiritual state, God’s love is their only spiritual sustenance and singing divine words of His praises is their support.
ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
