ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਿ ॥
gur kay charan kamal namaskaar.
O’ my friend, bow in humility to the lotus feet of the Guru,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
kaam kroDh is tan tay maar.
and by following the Guru’s words, get rid of vices such as lust, anger etc. from your body.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ) ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾ।
ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਰੀਨਾ ॥
ho-ay rahee-ai sagal kee reenaa.
Let us remain so humble as if we were the dust of everybody’s feet;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
ghat ghat rama-ee-aa sabh meh cheenaa. ||1||
perceive that God is pervading in every heart. ||1||
ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵੇਖ ॥੧॥
ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਰਮਹੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋੁਬਿੰਦੁ ॥
in biDh ramhu gopaal gobind.
O’ my friend, this way continue to lovingly remember God, the sustainer of the world,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਕ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹੋ,
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan Dhan parabh kaa parabh kee jind. ||1|| rahaa-o.
so that you realize that this body and wealth have been given by God, and deem this life also a gift from Him. ||1||Pause||
(ਕਿ) ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ, ਇਸ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਾਣੋ, ਇਸ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ (ਭੀ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸਮਝੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
aath pahar har kay gun gaa-o.
O’ my friend, always sing the praises of God;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰ।
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੋ ਇਹੈ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
jee-a paraan ko ihai su-aa-o.
because this alone is the purpose of human life.
ਤੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਜਾਨ ਦਾ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਇਹੀ (ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ) ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹੈ।
ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
taj abhimaan jaan parabh sang.
Renounce your egotistical pride, and know that God is with you.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝ।
ਸਾਧ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੨॥
saaDh parsaad har si-o man rang. ||2||
By the Grace of the Guru, let your mind be imbued with love for God. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ) ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਲੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂੰ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
jin tooN kee-aa tis ka-o jaan.
Know the One who has created you,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖ।
ਆਗੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
aagai dargeh paavai maan.
so that you may be honored hereafter in the presence of God.
ਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ।
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥
man tan nirmal ho-ay nihaal.
A person’s mind and body become immaculate and stay delighted,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ ਤਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰ ਭੀ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥੩॥
rasnaa naam japat gopaal. ||3||
when he devotedly recites God’s Name with tongue. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਭ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
kar kirpaa mayray deen da-i-aalaa.
O’ my merciful Master-God of the meek, grant your grace;
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ।
ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥
saaDhoo kee man mangai ravaalaa.
my mind begs for the dust of the Guru’s feet (yearns for the Guru’s humble service).
(ਮੇਰਾ) ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
hohu da-i-aal dayh parabh daan.
O’ God, be merciful, and bless me with this gift,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ) ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਪਾ,
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੧੩॥
naanak jap jeevai parabh naam. ||4||11||13||
that your devotee Nanak may stay spiritually alive by lovingly meditating on God’s Name. ||4||11||13||
ਕਿ (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੧੩॥

Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਧੂਪ ਦੀਪ ਸੇਵਾ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
Dhoop deep sayvaa gopaal.
(people burn incense and light lamps to worship gods), but devotional worship of God with reverence is like burning incense and lighting lamps
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡੀ ਲੋਕ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਧੂਪ ਧੁਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਬਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ ‘ਧੂਪ ਦੀਪ’ ਦੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਬੰਦਨ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥
anik baar bandan kartaar.
and that is as if one is humbly bowing to the Creator-God time and again;
(ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਮਾਨੋ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ਸਭ ਤਿਆਗਿ ॥
parabh kee saran gahee sabh ti-aag.
thus abandoning all other rituals, he takes the refuge in God,
ਉਹ (ਧੂਪ ਦੀਪ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਾਲੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਭਏ ਵਡ ਭਾਗਿ ॥੧॥
gur suparsan bha-ay vad bhaag. ||1||
and then by good fortune, the Guru becomes totally pleased with him. ||1||
(ਇਉਂ ਉਸ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ॥੧॥
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗਾਈਐ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥
aath pahar gaa-ee-ai gobind.
O’ my friend, at all times we should sing praises of the omniscient God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan Dhan parabh kaa parabh kee jind. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who has blessed us with this body, wealth, and life. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਾਡਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਧਨ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਤ ਭਏ ਆਨੰਦ ॥
har gun ramat bha-ay aanand.
His devotees stay in bliss by contemplating on the virtues of God.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਖਸੰਦ ॥
paarbarahm pooran bakhsand.
The Supreme God is totally forgiving.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਅਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
kar kirpaa jan sayvaa laa-ay.
Showing His mercy, He engages his devotees to His devotional worship,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੨॥
janam maran dukh mayt milaa-ay. ||2||
and removing their pain of cycle of birth and death, He unites them with Himself. ||2||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਰਨ ਤਕ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
karam Dharam ih tat gi-aan.
O’ brother, this is the essence of righteous deed and this is also the true wisdom,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਗਿਆਨ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
saaDhsang japee-ai har naam.
that one may lovingly meditate on God’s Name in the company of the holy congregation.
(ਜੋ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਗਰ ਤਰਿ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਣ ॥
saagar tar bohith parabh charan.
O’ friend! God’s Name is like a ship, by which you can swim across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਉਸ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ,
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣ ॥੩॥
antarjaamee parabh kaaran karan. ||3||
That God, who has awareness of all hearts, is the creator of the world and cause of all causes. ||3||
ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
raakh lee-ay apnee kirpaa Dhaar.
O’ my friend, showing his mercy, God saves his devotees,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਭਾਗੇ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥
panch doot bhaagay bikraal.
and the five dreadful demons (lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego), hasten away from them.
(ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਭੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੂਐ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਹਾਰਿ ॥
joo-ai janam na kabhoo haar.
That person never losses the game of life,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਵਾਂਦਾ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਅੰਗੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੧੪॥
naanak kaa ang kee-aa kartaar. ||4||12||14||
whom, the creator God protects by His support, O’ Nanak. ||4||12||14||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੧੪॥
ਗੋਂਡ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੁਖ ਅਨਦ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
kar kirpaa sukh anad karay-i.
O’ my friend, showing His mercy, God blesses his devotees with peace and bliss.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਣ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਆਤਮਿਕ ਸੁਖ ਅਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਾਲਕ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਗੁਰਦੇਵਿ ॥
baalak raakh lee-ay gurdayv.
The Divine Guru has always saved his children.
ਉਸ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਰਣ-ਪਏ ਆਪਣੇ) ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋੁਬਿੰਦ ॥
parabh kirpaal da-i-aal gobind.
That God of the universe is kind and compassionate,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ, ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਖਸਿੰਦ ॥੧॥
jee-a jant saglay bakhsind. ||1||
He blesses all creatures and beings. ||1||
ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
tayree saran parabh deen da-i-aal.
O’ merciful God of the meek, we seek your support;
ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ) ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜਪਿ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paarbarahm jap sadaa nihaal. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ the Supreme God, by reverently meditating on You, we are forever in bliss. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ! (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ) ਜਪ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੂਸਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
parabh da-i-aal doosar ko-ee naahee.
O’ God, there is no other merciful power like you.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥
ghat ghat antar sarab samaahee.
You are pervading in each and every heart.
ਤੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ।
ਅਪਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥
apnay daas kaa halat palat savaarai.
God embellishes both worlds of the devotee, this one and the next.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੈ ॥੨॥
patit paavan parabh birad tumHaarai. ||2||
O’ God, it is your nature to purify the sinners. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਅਉਖਧ ਕੋਟਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
a-ukhaDh kot simar gobind.
O’ my friend, contemplate on God; it is like a million medicines.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਦਵਾਈਆਂ (ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ) ਹੈ।
ਤੰਤੁ ਮੰਤੁ ਭਜੀਐ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
tant mant bhajee-ai bhagvant.
One should fervently meditate on God’s Name; it is the best charm and the best mantra.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ (ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ) ਤੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ।
ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਮਿਟੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
rog sog mitay parabh Dhi-aa-ay.
When a person sincerely meditates on God, all his maladies and sorrows vanish.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਸਾਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
man baaNchhat pooran fal paa-ay. ||3||
and he attains the fruits of his heart’s desires. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੇ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਨ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਮਰਥ ਦਇਆਰ ॥
karan kaaran samrath da-i-aar.
The merciful Master is all powerful, and cause of all causes.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਮਹਾ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
sarab niDhaan mahaa beechaar.
The reflection of His sublime virtues is like having all the treasures.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ॥
naanak bakhas lee-ay parabh aap.
O’ Nanak, God has Himself blessed his devotees.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਉੇਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਏਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੧੫॥
sadaa sadaa ayko har jaap. ||4||13||15||
Therefore, O’ my friend, forever and ever meditate sincerely on that God alone. ||4||13||15||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੧੫॥
