Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥
raam raam sang kar bi-uhaar.
O’ my friend, do the trade of remembering God’s Name with adoration.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ (ਦੇ ਸਰਮਾਏ) ਨਾਲ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ) ਵਣਜ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
raam raam raam paraan aDhaar.
and make God’s Name the support of your life.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਇ ॥
raam raam raam keertan gaa-ay.
Always be singing the praises of God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਰਮਤ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਭ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
ramat raam sabh rahi-o samaa-ay. ||1||
who is all-pervading and is present in the entire universe. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਰਾਮ ॥
sant janaa mil bolhu raam.
O’ my friend, recite God’s Name in the company of saintly people.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ।
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabh tay nirmal pooran kaam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
This is the most immaculate and perfect deed. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
raam raam Dhan sanch bhandaar.
O’ my friend, amass the wealth of God’s Name in your heart.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ, ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰ ਲੈ,
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਕਰਿ ਆਹਾਰ ॥
raam raam raam kar aahaar.
Make meditation on God’s Name as food of your spiritual life.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਵੀਸਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
raam raam veesar nahee jaa-ay.
Don’t let loving meditation on Naam be ever forgotten from your mind.
(ਵੇਖੀਂ!) ਕਿਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਏ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬਤਾਇ ॥੨॥
kar kirpaa gur dee-aa bataa-ay. ||2||
Bestowing mercy, the Guru has revealed it to me. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਦੱਸ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਇ ॥
raam raam raam sadaa sahaa-ay.
O’ my friend, God who always supports us,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
raam raam raam liv laa-ay.
always focus your mind on His devotional worship.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ।
ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਏ ॥
raam raam jap nirmal bha-ay.
By uttering God’s Name, people become pure,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਗਏ ॥੩॥
janam janam kay kilbikh ga-ay. ||3||
and their sins countless births vanish. ||3||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਰਮਤ ਰਾਮ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥
ramat raam janam maran nivaarai.
O’ my friend, the cycle of birth and death ends lovingly remembering God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦਾ ਗੇੜ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਚਰਤ ਰਾਮ ਭੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੈ ॥
uchrat raam bhai paar utaarai.
When God’s Name is recited with love and devotion, He ferries one across the dreadful worldly ocean of vices.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਿਆਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਸਹਿਮ (-ਭਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਰਾਮ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥
sabh tay ooch raam pargaas.
Acquire within yourself, enlightenment of the Name of God, who is the highest of all,
ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ,
ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੦॥
nis baasur jap naanak daas. ||4||8||10||
O’ devotee Nanak! always lovingly remember God’s Name. ||4||8||10||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੦॥

Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਉਨ ਕਉ ਖਸਮਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਠਾਕਹਾਰੇ ॥
un ka-o khasam keenee thaakhaaray.
My Master-God has stopped those five evil impulses from bothering His devotees,
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਤੰਗ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਪੰਜਾਂ ਚੌਧਰੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਵਰਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਦਾਸ ਸੰਗ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥
daas sang tay maar bidaaray.
and has beaten them away from associating with His devotees.
ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਭਜਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਗਤ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gobind bhagat kaa mahal na paa-i-aa.
Those five vices have not been able to find the abode of God’s devotees,
ਉਹ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਨਾਹ ਸਕੇ,
ਰਾਮ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
raam janaa mil mangal gaa-i-aa. ||1||
because the devotees of God have always sung God’s praises. ||1||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਵਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕੇ ਪੰਚ ਸਿਕਦਾਰ ॥
sagal sarisat kay panch sikdaar.
O’ my friend, these five vices (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego) are rulers of the entire universe.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ-ਇਹ) ਪੰਜ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਹਨ।
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam bhagat kay paaneehaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
However, they are under the control of the devotees of God, as if they were their servants. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਨੌਕਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਗਤ ਪਾਸ ਤੇ ਲੇਤੇ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
jagat paas tay laytay daan.
It is like they collect taxes from the worldly people,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਪੰਜ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ (ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ) ਪਾਸੋਂ ਡੰਨ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਗਤ ਕਉ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਲਾਮੁ ॥
gobind bhagat ka-o karahi salaam.
but they (vices) do not bother the devotees of God.
ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਲੂਟਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵਹਿ ॥
loot layhi saakat pat khoveh.
They dishonor the faithless cynics and rob their virtues,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਲੁੱਟ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਸਾਕਤ ਇਥੇ ਆਪਣੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਪਗ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵਹਿ ॥੨॥
saaDh janaa pag mal mal Dhoveh. ||2||
but they serve very humbly the saintly people as if they wash and massage their feet. ||2||
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਮਲ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਧੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਪੰਚ ਪੂਤ ਜਣੇ ਇਕ ਮਾਇ ॥
panch poot janay ik maa-ay.
These five vices are the five sons born of one mother named Maya, as per God’s command.
(ਇਹ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੂਪੀ ਇਕ ਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਉਤਭੁਜ ਖੇਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਆਇ ॥
ut-bhuj khayl kar jagat vi-aa-ay.
O’ brother! He first made the sources of creation (eggs, placenta, perspiration, earth) and then created the world from them.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਆਦਿਕ ਖੇਡ ਰਚਾ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੀਨਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਚਿ ਰਸੇ ॥
teen gunaa kai sang rach rasay.
The worldly people remain absorbed in enjoying the relish of three modes of Maya (vice, power and virtue).
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਮਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਨ ਕਉ ਛੋਡਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਨ ਬਸੇ ॥੩॥
in ka-o chhod oopar jan basay. ||3||
However, the devotees of God forsake these impulses of Maya and abide in the higher state of spirituality. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਨ ਲੀਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥
kar kirpaa jan lee-ay chhadaa-ay.
O’ my friend, bestowing mercy, God has liberated his devotees from these vices.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਸੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਖੇ ਹਟਾਇ ॥
jis kay say tin rakhay hataa-ay.
He who has created these five vices, has kept them in check from His devotees.
(ਇਹ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਜਿਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਪਰੇ ਰੋਕ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
kaho naanak bhagat parabh saar.
Nanak says: Therefore, O’ brother, cherish the sublime devotion of God,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਸਬ ਤੋਂ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਸਭ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੧॥
bin bhagtee sabh ho-ay khu-aar. ||4||9||11||
because without devotion, all are ruined by these five vices. ||4||9||11||
ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਚੌਧਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੯॥੧੧॥

Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
kal kalays mitay har naa-ay.
O’ my friend, all the conflicts and woes vanish by contemplating on God’s Name.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਝਗੜੇ-ਬਖੇੜੇ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਕੀਨੋ ਠਾਉ ॥
dukh binsay sukh keeno thaa-o.
All their sorrows vanish and peace comes to stay in their lives.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੁਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਘਾਏ ॥
jap jap amrit naam aghaa-ay.
By meditating on the ambosial nectar of God’s Name again and again, they get satiated,
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਗਲ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
sant parsaad sagal fal paa-ay. ||1||
and by the grace of the Guru, they attain all the fruits of their desires. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਜਨ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ॥
raam japat jan paar paray.
O’ my friend, by lovingly meditating on God, the devotees are ferried across the worldly ocean of vices,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam janam kay paap haray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and their sins of innumerable births vanish. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
gur kay charan ridai ur Dhaaray.
O’ my friend, the devotees keep the Guru’s immaculate words enshrined in their hearts,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਤੇ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰੇ ॥
agan saagar tay utray paaray.
and they cross over the ocean of intense worldly desires.
(ਪੂਰੀ ਸਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ), ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਸਭ ਮਿਟੀ ਉਪਾਧਿ ॥
janam maran sabh mitee upaaDh.
This way, their entire problem of the cycle of birth and death disappears,
ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਬਖੇੜਾ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ॥੨॥
parabh si-o laagee sahj samaaDh. ||2||
and they remain focused on God in a state of peace and poise. ||2||
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
thaan thanantar ayko su-aamee.
O’ my friend, in all places and interspaces, it is one and only one God who is pervading,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
sagal ghataa kaa antarjaamee.
and He has infinite insight of all hearts.
ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥
kar kirpaa jaa ka-o mat day-ay.
Showing His mercy, whomsoever He blesses with the divine intellect,
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਲੇਇ ॥੩॥
aath pahar parabh kaa naa-o lay-ay. ||3||
that person remembers God’s Name at all times. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
jaa kai antar vasai parabh aap.
O’ my friend, the person in whose heart God manifests Himself,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
taa kai hirdai ho-ay pargaas.
his mind gets enlightened with divine wisdom.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
bhagat bhaa-ay har keertan karee-ai.
Therefore with loving devotion, we should continually be singing praises of God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਪਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੧੨॥
jap paarbarahm naanak nistaree-ai. ||4||10||12||
O’ Nanak, by passionately meditating on the all pervading God, we swim across the worldly ocean of vices. ||4||10||12||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੧੨॥
