ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
din rain naanak naam Dhi-aa-ay.
(O’ brother, in the company of such saints) Nanak meditates fervently on Naam day and night,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਏ ॥੪॥੪॥੬॥
sookh sahj aanand har naa-ay. ||4||4||6||
and as a result of this meditation on God’s Name, he is blessed with peace, poise and bliss. ||4||4||6||
ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ (ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੪॥੬॥

Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
gur kee moorat man meh Dhi-aan.
O’ my friend, I contemplate on the Guru’s world in my mind.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਹੈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਇਸ) ਮੂਰਤੀ ਦਾ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨ ॥
gur kai sabad mantar man maan.
Through the Guru’s word, my mind has understood the supreme status of the Mantra of Naam.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਨੂੰ (ਸਭ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ) ਮੰਨ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਲੈ ਧਾਰਉ ॥
gur kay charan ridai lai Dhaara-o.
That is why, O’ brother, I enshrine the Guru’s teachings in my heart,
(ਤਾਹੀਏਂ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਉ ॥੧॥
gur paarbarahm sadaa namaskaara-o. ||1||
and I always bow to the Guru, the embodiment of God. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ (ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਉਸ) ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਮਤ ਕੋ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
mat ko bharam bhulai sansaar.
No one in the world should forget,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਏ,
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur bin ko-ay na utras paar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that without the Guru’s teachings, nobody can cross over the worldly ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੇਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭੂਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
bhoolay ka-o gur maarag paa-i-aa.
The Guru has always helped the misguided persons to take the right path,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
avar ti-aag har bhagtee laa-i-aa.
and has motivated them to worship God and none other.
ਹੋਰ (ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ) ਛਡਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
janam maran kee taraas mitaa-ee.
This way, the fear of the cycle of birth and death has been eradicated.
(ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੨॥
gur pooray kee bay-ant vadaa-ee. ||2||
O’ brother! endless is the glory of the perfect Guru. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਊਰਧ ਕਮਲ ਬਿਗਾਸ ॥
gur parsaad ooraDh kamal bigaas.
O’ my friends, by Guru’s grace I feel so delighted because my heart has turned away from Maya as if the inverted lotus of my heart has blossomed.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲ) ਉਲਟਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਕੌਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪਰਤ ਕੇ) ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥
anDhkaar meh bha-i-aa pargaas.
The light of divine wisdom has brought illumination in my dark life of ignorance.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ (ਸਹੀ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
jin kee-aa so gur tay jaani-aa.
Through the Guru, one recognizes God, the creator of the entire universe.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥
gur kirpaa tay mugaDh man maani-aa. ||3||
By Guru’s grace, the foolish mind gets convinced to meditate on God’s Name. ||3||
(ਇਹ) ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨਾ) ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
gur kartaa gur karnai jog.
Being on the same spiritual level, Guru is embodiment of the Creator who is capable of doing everything.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ-ਸੁਰ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
gur parmaysar hai bhee hog.
Guru is embodiment of that God, who is present now was present before and would always be.
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਜੋ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਭੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸੀ) ਹੁਣ ਭੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਇਹੈ ਜਨਾਈ ॥
kaho naanak parabh ihai janaa-ee.
Nanak says: God has made me understand this concept,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝਾਈ ਹੈ (ਕਿ)
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ॥੪॥੫॥੭॥
bin gur mukat na paa-ee-ai bhaa-ee. ||4||5||7||
that liberation from vices is just not possible without following the Guru’s teachings. ||4||5||7||
ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੭॥

Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੋਰ ॥
guroo guroo gur kar man mor.
O’ my mind, remember the Guru continually with love and devotion,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼) ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖ,
ਗੁਰੂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਹੋਰ ॥
guroo binaa mai naahee hor.
I can’t think of anybody else other than the Guru as my support.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਰਹਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
gur kee tayk rahhu din raat.
O’ my mind, always have faith on the support of the Guru,
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ,
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੧॥
jaa kee ko-ay na maytai daat. ||1||
whose gift of spiritual life no one can eliminate. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
gur parmaysar ayko jaan.
O’ my mind, deem both the Guru and God as one,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਰੂਪ ਸਮਝੋ।
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so parvaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
whatever pleases that God is also acceptable to the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਭੀ (ਸਿਰ-ਮੱਥੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
gur charnee jaa kaa man laagai.
O’ my mind, the person whose mind is imbued with the Guru’s word,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
dookh darad bharam taa kaa bhaagai.
all his miseries, pains and doubts flee.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਪਾਏ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
gur kee sayvaa paa-ay maan.
One gets blessed with honor by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਆਦਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
gur oopar sadaa kurbaan. ||2||
Therefore, O’ my mind, always be dedicated to the Guru. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੋ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
gur kaa darsan daykh nihaal.
O’ my mind! one gets truly blessed by the sight of the Guru.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ) ਖਿੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਘਾਲ ॥
gur kay sayvak kee pooran ghaal.
The effort of the Guru’s devotee becomes a complete success.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
gur kay sayvak ka-o dukh na bi-aapai.
No kind of pain can afflict the devotee of the Guru,
ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਉਤੇ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੩॥
gur kaa sayvak dah dis jaapai. ||3||
and the devotee of the Guru is known in all directions. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur kee mahimaa kathan na jaa-ay.
The glory of the Guru is beyond description,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
paarbarahm gur rahi-aa samaa-ay.
because Guru is the embodiment of God who is pervading everywhere.
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗ ॥
kaho naanak jaa kay pooray bhaag.
Nanak says, one who is blessed with perfect destiny,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗ ॥੪॥੬॥੮॥
gur charnee taa kaa man laag. ||4||6||8||
he remains focused on the word of the Guru. ||4||6||8||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੮॥

ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥
gur mayree poojaa gur gobind.
O’ brother! following the Guru’s teaching is my devotional worship, the Guru is the embodiment of God.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮੇਰਾ) ਗੁਰੂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਹੀ) ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਦੇਵ-) ਪੂਜਾ ਹੈ, (ਮੇਰਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੁ ॥
gur mayraa paarbarahm gur bhagvant.
My Guru is the embodiment of the supreme God and is all-powerful.
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਬੜੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੇਉ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਉ ॥
gur mayraa day-o alakh abhay-o.
My Guru is embodiment of the all-knowing, indescribable and inscrutable God,
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸਰਬ ਪੂਜ ਚਰਨ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਉ ॥੧॥
sarab pooj charan gur say-o. ||1||
I am always following the teachings of the Guru, who is worshipped by all. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪੂਜਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਥਾਉ ॥
gur bin avar naahee mai thaa-o.
O’ my friend, I cannot think of any other place of support except the Guru (to save myself from the attachment of Maya).
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ (ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਸਕਾਂ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਪਉ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
an-din japa-o guroo gur naa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Therefore, I always sincerely remember the Guru’s teachings. ||1||Pause||
ਸੋ) ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਤੱਕੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹਾਂ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
gur mayraa gi-aan gur ridai Dhi-aan.
The Guru is my divine knowledge, and memory of the Guru is always in my heart.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਪਾਲੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥
gur gopaal purakh bhagvaan.
The Guru is the embodiment of God who is all-pervading and is the protector of the universe.
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਰਹਉ ਕਰ ਜੋਰਿ ॥
gur kee saran raha-o kar jor.
I always remain in the Guru’s refuge with my hands folded, out of respect.
ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਹੋਰੁ ॥੨॥
guroo binaa mai naahee hor. ||2||
I cannot think of anyone other than the Guru who can support me. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਭਵ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
gur bohith taaray bhav paar.
The Guru is like a ship who ferries us across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਿ ॥
gur sayvaa jam tay chhutkaar.
One gets liberated from the fear of demons of death by following the teachings of the Guru.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਜਮਾਂ (ਦੇ ਡਰ) ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਉਜਾਰਾ ॥
anDhkaar meh gur mantar ujaaraa.
In the darkness of worldly ignorance, the Guru’s teachings are like a lighted lamp.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਹੀ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
gur kai sang sagal nistaaraa. ||3||
In the company of the Guru, everybody is liberated from vices. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
gur pooraa paa-ee-ai vadbhaagee.
It is only by great fortune, that we meet the perfect Guru.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
gur kee sayvaa dookh na laagee.
No sorrow can ever afflict if the Guru’s teachings are followed sincerely.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
gur kaa sabad na maytai ko-ay.
Nobody can ever eliminate the Guru’s word once it is imbued in the heart.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਵੱਸ ਪਏ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਉਜਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੭॥੯॥
gur naanak naanak har so-ay. ||4||7||9||
O’ brother, Guru Nanak is the embodiment of God. ||4||7||9||
