ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar sat naam kartaa purakh nirbha-o nirvair akaal moorat joonee saibhaN gur prasad.
There is only one God whose Name is ‘of Eternal Existence’. He is the creator of the universe, is all-pervading, without fear, without enmity, independent of time, beyond the cycle of birth and death, self revealed and is realized by the Guru’s grace.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ’ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਭੈ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਵੈਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਜੇ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਸ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਤਾ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਫਲ ਪਾਈ ॥
jay man chit aas rakheh har oopar taa man chinday anayk anayk fal paa-ee.
O’ brother, if in your mind and heart, you keep faith in God, then you would receive innumerable rewards of your heart’s desire,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਰੱਖੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੇ ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ,
ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜੋ ਜੀਇ ਵਰਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਘਾਲਿਆ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
har jaanai sabh kichh jo jee-ay vartai parabh ghaali-aa kisai kaa ik til na gavaa-ee.
because, God knows whatever is happening inside our minds, and He does not let even a little bit of effort made by anybody go waste.
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
har tis kee aas keejai man mayray jo sabh meh su-aamee rahi-aa samaa-ee. ||1||
Therefore O’ my mind, always keep your faith in that God who pervades in all beings. ||1||
ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
mayray man aasaa kar jagdees gusaa-ee.
O’ my mind, place your faith in God, the Master of the universe,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਈਂ ਦੀ (ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ) ਆਸ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਜੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਸ ਅਵਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਾ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਆਸ ਸਭ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo bin har aas avar kaahoo kee keejai saa nihfal aas sabh birthee jaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
because if faith is kept in anybody other than God, then all that effort and hope goes to waste. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਭੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਰੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਸ ਸਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਉਹ ਆਸ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਮਤ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਲਗਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
jo deesai maa-i-aa moh kutamb sabh mat tis kee aas lag janam gavaa-ee.
O’ my mind, do not rely on whatever you see, like wealth and attachment with family, because all that is the basis of Maya, lest you may get your life wasted.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜੋ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ (ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਾਹ ਗਵਾ ਲਈਂ।
ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਹਿ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾ ਵਾਹਿਆ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
inH kai kichh haath nahee kahaa karahi ihi bapurhay inH kaa vaahi-aa kachh na vasaa-ee.
Nothing is in their hands. What can these poor fellows do? Nothing can be rectified through their efforts.
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ। ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ? ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਸਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੁਝੁ ਤਾਰੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਛਡਾਈ ॥੨॥
mayray man aas kar har pareetam apunay kee jo tujh taarai tayraa kutamb sabh chhadaa-ee. ||2||
O’ my mind, have faith in your beloved God, who would protect you and get your entire family also liberated from vices. ||2||
ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ, ਉਹੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਡਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਸ ਅਵਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰਮਿਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਤ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਆਈ ॥
jay kichh aas avar karahi parmitree mat tooN jaaneh tayrai kitai kamm aa-ee.
If you place your hope in false friends like worldly wealth, (other than God), don’t ever think that this dependence would be of any use to you.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਬਣਾਏਂਗਾ, ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹ ਨਾਹ ਸਮਝ ਲਈਂ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਵੇਗੀ।
ਇਹ ਆਸ ਪਰਮਿਤ੍ਰੀ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਝੂਠੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਈ ॥
ih aas parmitree bhaa-o doojaa hai khin meh jhooth binas sabh jaa-ee.
To have any hope in false worldly friends is the love of duality and will vanish in an instant.
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਆਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਦੂਜਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਘਾਲਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
mayray man aasaa kar har pareetam saachay kee jo tayraa ghaali-aa sabh thaa-ay paa-ee. ||3||
Therefore O’ my mind, have faith only in the all-pervading beloved God, who would make all your effort fruitful. ||3||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਸਫਲ ਕਰੇਗਾ ॥੩॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਤੂ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਕੋ ਆਸ ਕਰਾਈ ॥
aasaa mansaa sabh tayree mayray su-aamee jaisee too aas karaaveh taisee ko aas karaa-ee.
O’ my Master-God! a person cherishes all hopes and desires because of Your inspiration; he has only the kind of desire that You want a person to have.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ ਆਸਾਂ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
