ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
bilaaval mehlaa 1.
Raag Bilaaval, First Guru:
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਨਸਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
man kaa kahi-aa mansaa karai.
The intellect of a person without Naam acts according to the wishes of the mind,
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਬੁੱਧੀ (ਭੀ) ਮਨ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਪਾਪੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥
ih man punn paap uchrai.
and the mind only keeps talking about vice or virtue.
ਤੇ, ਇਹ ਮਨ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਇਹੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਹ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦਿ ਮਾਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
maa-i-aa mad maatay taripat na aavai.
Intoxicated with worldly riches, one is never satiated with his possessions.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰਜੇਵਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
taripat mukat man saachaa bhaavai. ||1||
Satisfaction and liberation from the love for worldly riches and power is attained only when the eternal God becomes pleasing to the mind. ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਰਜੇਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ॥੧॥
ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਖੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ॥
tan Dhan kalat sabh daykh abhimaanaa.
Gazing upon his body, wealth, wife and possessions, one becomes arrogant.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ, ਇਹ ਧਨ, ਇਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin naavai kichh sang na jaanaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Nothing except the wealth of Naam accompanies one after death. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕੀਚਹਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਮਨ ਕੇਰੀ ॥
keecheh ras bhog khusee-aa man kayree.
We indulge in all kinds of joys of Maya and pleasures of mind,
ਮਾਇਕ ਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਕਰੀਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਧਨੁ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤਨੁ ਭਸਮੈ ਢੇਰੀ ॥
Dhan lokaaN tan bhasmai dhayree.
But in the end this worldly wealth will pass on to others and the body would become a heap of dust.
(ਪਰ ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ) ਧਨ (ਹੋਰ) ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਖਾਕੂ ਖਾਕੁ ਰਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਫੈਲੁ ॥
khaakoo khaak ralai sabh fail.
Ultimately the entire expanse of dust mingles with dust.
ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ (ਅੰਤ) ਖ਼ਾਕ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਨਹੀ ਉਤਰੈ ਮੈਲੁ ॥੨॥
bin sabdai nahee utrai mail. ||2||
The mind’s filth of vices is not removed without following the Guru’s word. ||2||
ਮਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਗੀਤ ਰਾਗ ਘਨ ਤਾਲ ਸਿ ਕੂਰੇ ॥
geet raag ghan taal se kooray.
The various songs, tunes and rhythms are false entertainment for the mind.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਰਾਗ ਤੇ ਤਾਲ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਪਰਚਾਂਵੇ ਹਨ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੂਰੇ ॥
tarihu gun upjai binsai dooray.
Trapped by the three modes of Maya, one remains in the cycle of birth and death and keeps going farther away from God.
ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਹੇਠ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
doojee durmat darad na jaa-ay.
The duality and evil intellect of a person does not depart and the pain of separation from God does not go away.
ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਹੋਰ ਝਾਕ ਤੇ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਆਤਮਕ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਾਰੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੩॥
chhootai gurmukh daaroo gun gaa-ay. ||3||
Only that person is liberated from the cycle of birth and death who follows the Guru’s teachings and sings God’s praises, the cure of all afflictions. ||3||
ਆਤਮਕ ਰੋਗ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਧੋਤੀ ਊਜਲ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਗਲਿ ਮਾਲਾ ॥
Dhotee oojal tilak gal maalaa.
Those who wear a clean loin-cloth, apply tilak (ceremonial mark) on the forehead, wear a rosary around the neck,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚਿੱਟੀ ਧੋਤੀ ਪਹਿਨਦੇ ਹਨ (ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ) ਤਿਲਕ ਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਲਾ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਪੜਹਿ ਨਾਟ ਸਾਲਾ ॥
antar kroDh parheh naat saalaa.
and read scriptures; but if there is anger within them, then they are like actors reading their part in a theatre.
ਤੇ ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੇਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦੁ ਪੀਆ ॥
naam visaar maa-i-aa mad pee-aa.
Forgetting Naam, those who remain intoxicated with worldly riches and power,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਪੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੪॥
bin gur bhagat naahee sukh thee-aa. ||4||
they can never enjoy spiritual peace, because there cannot be any spiritual peace without devotional worship through the Guru’s teachings. ||4||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ,ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥੪॥
ਸੂਕਰ ਸੁਆਨ ਗਰਧਭ ਮੰਜਾਰਾ ॥
sookar su-aan garDhabh manjaaraa.
Animals such as swines, dogs, donkeys, cats,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਰ, ਕੁੱਤੇ, ਖੋਤੇ, ਬਿੱਲੇ-
ਪਸੂ ਮਲੇਛ ਨੀਚ ਚੰਡਾਲਾ ॥
pasoo malaychh neech chandalaa.
beasts and filthy lowly wretch,
ਪਸ਼ੂ, ਮਲੇਛ, ਨੀਚ, ਚੰਡਾਲ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਵਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮੁਹੁ ਫੇਰੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਵਾਈਐ ॥
gur tay muhu fayray tinH jon bhavaa-ee-ai.
are the incarnations through which people, who have turned their face away from the Guru’s teachings, are made to wander.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੋੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਆਈਐ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੫॥
banDhan baaDhi-aa aa-ee-ai jaa-ee-ai. ||5||
Bound in bondage of the love for Maya, worldly riches and power, one keeps going in the cycle of birth and death. ||5||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਲਹੈ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ॥
gur sayvaa tay lahai padaarath.
One receives the wealth of Naam by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ-ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਤਾਰਥੁ ॥
hirdai naam sadaa kirtaarath.
With the Naam in the heart, one always succeeds in his spiritual journey.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਵਿਚ) ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੂਛ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
saachee dargeh poochh na ho-ay.
And he is not asked to account for his deeds in God’s presence.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਲੇਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ l
ਮਾਨੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੀਝੈ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੬॥
maanay hukam seejhai dar so-ay. ||6||
One who obeys the Divine Command, is approved in God’s presence. ||6||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ (ਸਿਰ ਮੱਥੇ) ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
satgur milai ta tis ka-o jaanai.
One realizes God only when he meets the true Guru and follows his teachings.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਰਹੈ ਰਜਾਈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
rahai rajaa-ee hukam pachhaanai.
He understands God’s command and lives according to His will.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ (ਰਾਜ਼ੀ) ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
hukam pachhaan sachai dar vaas.
Understanding the Command of the eternal God, he dwells in His presence.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਲ ਬਿਕਾਲ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਏ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੭॥
kaal bikaal sabad bha-ay naas. ||7||
That person’s cycle of birth and death ends through the Guru’s divine word. ||7||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਰਹੈ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ॥
rahai ateet jaanai sabh tis kaa.
One who remains detached from Maya, understands that everything belongs to God.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ) ਉਪਰਾਮ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ (ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ) ਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪੈ ਹੈ ਇਹੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ॥
tan man arpai hai ih jis kaa.
He surrenders his body and mind to the One who owns them.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
naa oh aavai naa oh jaa-ay.
Such a person is saved from the cycle of birth and death.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak saachay saach samaa-ay. ||8||2||
O’ Nanak, he always remains absorbed in the eternal God. ||8||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੨॥

Raag Bilaaval, Third Guru, Ashtapadees, Tenth beat:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਗੁ ਕਊਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਚੁੰਚ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
jag ka-oo-aa mukh chunch gi-aan.
The person in love with Maya is like a crow superficially uttering spiritual words.
ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ, ਨਿਰਾ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਹੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
antar lobh jhooth abhimaan.
But deep within the mind of that person is greed, falsehood and undue pride.
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਚੁੰਚ-ਗਿਆਨੀ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ, ਝੂਠ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਗੁ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥੧॥
bin naavai paaj lahag nidaan. ||1||
Ultimately without meditating on God’s Name, the false show gets exposed. ||1||
ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਵਿਖਾਵਾ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉੱਘੜ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
satgur sayv naam vasai man cheet.
One realizes God’s Name dwelling in his mind and heart by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਹੋਰ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur bhaytay har naam chaytaavai bin naavai hor jhooth pareet. ||1|| rahaa-o.
When a person meets with the Guru, he makes that person remember God’s Name; except the love for God, all other love is false. ||1||Pause||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥
gur kahi-aa saa kaar kamaavahu.
O’ my friends, you should do whatever the Guru says (follow his teachings).
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਗੁਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੈ ।
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ॥
sabad cheeneh sahj ghar aavhu.
Always remain in spiritual equipoise by reflecting on the Guru’s divine words.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਕਰੋ।
ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਵਡਾਈ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥
saachai naa-ay vadaa-ee paavhu. ||2||
You would receive glory (both here and hereafter) by always remembering the Name of the eternal God. ||2||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੋਗੇ ॥੨॥
ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਲੋਕ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥
aap na boojhai lok bujhaavai.
One who himself does not understand spiritual wisdom but preaches others,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪ ਤਾਂ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
man kaa anDhaa anDh kamaavai.
he is mentallly blind and acts in ignorance.
ਉਹ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਠਉਰੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
dar ghar mahal tha-ur kaisay paavai. ||3||
How can he ever realize God’s presence in his heart? ||3||
ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਘਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਹਲ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
har jee-o sayvee-ai antarjaamee.
O’ my friends, we should perform the devotional worship of that omniscient God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥
ghat ghat antar jis kee jot samaanee.
whose divine light is pervading in each and every heart.
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ,।
ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਕਿਆ ਚਲੈ ਪਹਨਾਮੀ ॥੪॥
tis naal ki-aa chalai pehnaamee. ||4||
Nothing can be hidden from Him. ||4||
ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਲੁਕਾ-ਛਿਪਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੱਲ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੪॥
