ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਏ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ॥
kahat naanak sachay. Mom si-o pareet laa-ay chookai man abhimaanaa.
Nanak says that a person who develops love for the eternal God, all egotism is eradicated from his mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹਤ ਸੁਣਤ ਸਭੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨਤ ਪਾਹਿ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥੪॥੪॥
kahat sunat sabhay sukh paavahi maanat paahi niDhaanaa. ||4||4||
All those who speak or listen to God’s Name find celestial peace, and those who believe in Guru’s teachings, receive the treasure of Naam. ||4||4||
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੪॥

Raag Bilaaval, Third Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
gurmukh pareet jis no aapay laa-ay.
One whom God imbues with His love through the Guru’s teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਰੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥
tit ghar bilaaval gur sabad suhaa-ay.
melodies of joy and bliss always vibrate in his heart and his life is embellished with the Guru’s word.
ਉਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ, ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੰਗਲੁ ਨਾਰੀ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਆਏ ॥
mangal naaree gaavahi aa-ay.
He feels as if all his sensory organs are singing the songs of joy,
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
mil pareetam sadaa sukh paa-ay. ||1||
and realizing his beloved-God, he always enjoys the spiritual peace. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
ha-o tin balihaarai jinH har man vasaa-ay.
I dedicate myself to those who have enshrined God in their minds.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jan ka-o mili-aa sukh paa-ee-ai har gun gaavai sahj subhaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By meeting with such a devotee of God, one intuitively sings praises of God and receives spiritual peace. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਂਉਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਚਾਏ ॥
sadaa rang raatay tayrai chaa-ay.
Those who always remain imbued with Your joyful love,
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਾਉ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
har jee-o aap vasai man aa-ay.
the Reverend God Himself makes them realize His presence in their minds.
ਪੂਜਯ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
aapay sobhaa sad hee paa-ay.
God Himself blesses them with eternal glory,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੨॥
gurmukh maylai mayl milaa-ay. ||2||
and through the Guru, unites them with Himself.||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਰੰਗਾਏ ॥
gurmukh raatay sabad rangaa-ay.
Those who become imbued with the divine word through the Guru’s teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥
nij ghar vaasaa har gun gaa-ay.
they dwell in their own heart by singing praises of God.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਭਾਏ ॥
rang chaloolai har ras bhaa-ay.
Being imbued with the intense love for God, they look beauteous.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੇ ਗੂੜ੍ਹੀ ਗੁਲਾਨਾਰੀ ਰੰਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸੁਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
ih rang kaday na utrai saach samaa-ay. ||3||
Their love for Naam never fades, because they always remain merged in the eternal God. ||3||
ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਤਰਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ॥
antar sabad miti-aa agi-aan anDhayraa.
Those who have enshrined the Guru’s word in their hearts, their darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਗਿਆਨ-ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
satgur gi-aan mili-aa pareetam mayraa.
Those who are blessed with the divine wisdom of the true Guru, realize our beloved God.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਫੇਰਾ ॥
jo sach raatay tin bahurh na fayraa.
Those who are imbued with the love of the eternal God, are not subjected to the cycle of birth and death.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ) ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੫॥
naanak naam drirh-aa-ay pooraa gur mayraa. ||4||5||
O’ Nanak, only the perfect Guru can firmly implant God’s Name in the mind of a person. ||4||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥
ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Bilaaval, Third Guru:
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਈ ॥
pooray gur tay vadi-aa-ee paa-ee.
The person who has obtained blessings and honor from the perfect Guru,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਵਡਿਆਈ-ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ,
ਅਚਿੰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
achint naam vasi-aa man aa-ee.
intuitively, he realizes Naam dwelling in his mind.
ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ -ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਈ ॥
ha-umai maa-i-aa sabad jalaa-ee.
One who has burnt down his egotism and love for Maya through the Guru’s word,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾੜ ਲਈ,
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
dar saachai gur tay sobhaa paa-ee. ||1||
by the Guru’s grace, he has received the honor in the eternal God’s presence.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟ ਲਈ ॥੧॥
ਜਗਦੀਸ ਸੇਵਉ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਾਜਾ ॥
jagdees sayva-o mai avar na kaajaa.
O’ Master of the universe, bless me that I may keep meditating on You, and no other worldly task may allure me.
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਮ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਗੇ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਅਨਦੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਗਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਜਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
an-din anad hovai man mayrai gurmukh maaga-o tayraa naam nivaajaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, by following the Guru’s teachings, I beg for Your bliss-giving Naam, so that bliss may always prevail in my mind. ||1||Pause||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਉਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
man kee parteet man tay paa-ee. pooray gur tay sabad bujhaa-ee.
One who has understood the way to lead a spiritual life by reflecting on the word of the perfect Guru, his faith in God develops from his mind itself.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ। ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ-ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਲੱਭ ਲਈ l
ਜੀਵਣ ਮਰਣੁ ਕੋ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
jeevan maran ko samsar vaykhai.
If a person looks upon life and death alike,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਸਮਝੇ,
ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਨਾ ਜਮੁ ਪੇਖੈ ॥੨॥
bahurh na marai naa jam paykhai. ||2||
he never experiences spiritual death and the demon of death does not look for him. ||2||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ, ਉਸ ਵਲ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਕੋਟ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
ghar hee meh sabh kot niDhaan.
There are treasures of spiritual peace and comfort existing in every person’s heart.
ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਟ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਗਇਆ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
satgur dikhaa-ay ga-i-aa abhimaan.
The person whom the true Guru has revealed these treasures, his ego has completely vanished.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਇਹ ਕੋਟ) ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਸਦ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨ ॥
sad hee laagaa sahj Dhi-aan.
That person always remains attuned to God,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥੩॥
an-din gaavai ayko naam. ||3||
and he always keeps meditating on God’s Name. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਕੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਈ ॥
is jug meh vadi-aa-ee paa-ee.
That person receives honor in this world,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
pooray gur tay naam Dhi-aa-ee.
who meditates on Naam by following the perfect Guru’s teachings.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
jah daykhaa tah rahi-aa samaa-ee.
Wherever I look, I behold God pervading there.
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਜਿੱਧਰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਧਰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥
sadaa sukh-daata keemat nahee paa-ee. ||4||
He is forever the bestower of peace; His worth cannot be evaluated. ||4||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ (ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ॥੪॥
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
poorai bhaag gur pooraa paa-i-aa.
Anyone who, by perfect destiny, followed the perfect Guru’s teachings,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ,
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
antar naam niDhaan dikhaa-i-aa.
the Guru has revealed in him the treasure of Naam.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਤਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
gur kaa sabad at meethaa laa-i-aa.
The person whom the Guru’s word started seeming sweet and pleasant,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝੀ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੫॥੬॥੪॥੬॥੧੦॥
naanak tarisan bujhee man tan sukh paa-i-aa. ||5||6||4||6||10||
O’ Nanak, his yearnings for Maya, the worldly riches and power, got quenched; his mind and heart enjoyed celestial peace. |5||6||10|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਬੁੱਝ ਗਈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੫॥੬॥੪॥੬॥੧੦॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਦਮ ਮਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਰੇ ਤਿਉ ਕਰਨਾ ॥
udam mat parabh antarjaamee ji-o parayray ti-o karnaa.
The omniscient God blesses the human beings with the intelligence and desire to act; we perform as He motivates us.
ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਆਪ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਜਿਉ ਨਟੂਆ ਤੰਤੁ ਵਜਾਏ ਤੰਤੀ ਤਿਉ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਜਨਾ ॥੧॥
ji-o natoo-aa tant vajaa-ay tantee ti-o vaajeh jant janaa. ||1||
Just as a violinist plays upon the strings of a violin, it resounds accordingly; similarly, all beings perform what God inspires them to. ||1||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਟਕ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੀਣਾ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਜ) ਦੀ ਤਾਰ ਵਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਜ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ); ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ (ਜੋ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਵਾਜੇ (ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਵਜਾਇਆਂ) ਵੱਜਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
